articule est un centre d’artistes autogéré qui se consacre à la diffusion d’un large éventail de pratiques en art actuel et s’intéressant plus particulièrement à l’engagement social, à l’interdisciplinarité et à l’expérimentation artistique. articule soutient les artistes de la relève ainsi que ceux ayant établi des précédents importants et qui continuent à prendre des risques.
articule invite les artistes, les collectifs d’artistes et les commissaires locaux, nationaux et internationaux, ainsi que toutes les personnes intéressées à établir un dialogue avec les arts actuels, à proposer un projet pour sa programmation de septembre 2012 à juin 2013. Nous acceptons les projets et recherches de différentes natures ayant lieu à la galerie, en ligne ou hors les murs, de même que les projets de collaborations (entre individus, organismes, institutions, champs de la pensée..). Les propositions peuvent se dérouler suivant des temporalités variées.

PROJETS SPÉCIAUX 2011-2012

Depuis plus de dix ans, articule soutient les interventions publiques, projets d’art action, manoeuvres, nouvelles pratiques artistiques, conférences, ateliers, projections vidéos, etc. à travers le volet de programmation des projets spéciaux. Cette année, nous invitons les artistes et les personnes oeuvrant dans d’autres champs de recherche à réfléchir avec nous sur ce que représente aujourd’hui l’indisciplinarité. Comment définit-on, par exemple, les limites entre art et action communautaire ou militante, entre recherche esthétique, politique, scientifique ou philosophique? Comment ces limites sont-elles transgressées? Les projets peuvent avoir lieu à la galerie, sur le web ou hors site. Nous sommes également ouverts aux propositions de collaboration avec d’autres organismes. Enfin, pour répondre rapidement aux initiatives proposées, le comité se rencontrera régulièrement afin d’évaluer les dossiers reçus, et ce, tout au long de l’année.
Le soutien d’articule pour les projets spéciaux peut prendre plusieurs formes : appui promotionel et logistique, accès à l’équipement du centre, appui financier (pour un montant maximum de 500$). Les personnes désirant discuter d’une idée et la développer avec le comité sont également invitées à le faire.

Appel de dossier / Programmation 2012-2013 D’ARPRIM

Les artistes professionnels et les commissaires en art actuel s’intéressant au champ élargi des pratiques liées à l’art imprimé sont invités à proposer un projet d’exposition ou d’événement pour la programmation 2012-2013 chez ARPRIM.

L’ubiquité de l’imprimé dans le quotidien offre matière à penser, produire et re-produire. Elle se traduit par une multitude de questionnements investis par la création contemporaine. En empruntant le langage de l’art imprimé, les artistes redéfinissent  jusqu’aux paramètres mêmes de l’art. La rencontre des nouvelles technologies avec des procédés rudimentaires ; la génération systématique de données ; la matérialisation de l’intangible ; l’investissement des espaces publics physiques et virtuels ; la copie comme mode opératoire du vivant ; l’utilisation des codes de l’imprimé pour déconstruire le réel et le reformuler dans un nouveau langage ne sont que quelques-unes des tendances actuelles en art imprimé.

Les propositions soumises devront démontrer l’inhérence du média imprimé dans la démarche de l’artiste, de son utilisation comme un véhicule, au-delà d’une simple finalité technique, permettant de communiquer des enjeux spécifiques. Le comité de programmation privilégiera les dossiers d’artistes faisant preuve d’audace dans leur conception des pratiques en art imprimé. Les expositions retenues seront présentées pour des périodes respectives de cinq semaines.

ARPRIM s’engage à couvrir les frais reliés à la salle d’exposition, aux communications et au vernissage.

Lancement du concours Vidéastes Recherché•es
Vidéastes Recherché•es fait appel aux jeunes réalisateurs en lançant une fois de plus son concours dédié aux premières œuvres indépendantes québécoises
Pour la première fois, la programmation officielle de Vidéastes Recherché•es sera présentée dans le cadre des Rencontres cinématographiques de Québec, en mars 2012.
Au moment où la technologie numérique bouscule les pratiques de diffusion et de production, les Rencontres cinématographiques de Québec proposent d’ouvrir le dialogue entre public, professionnels, artistes et industrie de l’image animée. Cela afin d’occuper au mieux ce nouveau champ de création médiatique qu’est la technoculture. Cet événement novateur offrira une suite de rencontres où professionnels et artistes pourront se côtoyer et rencontrer le public lors d’ateliers de formation, de conférences, de démonstrations technologiques, de soirées de cinéma et de projections expérimentales.
Depuis 21 ans, la mission du concours Vidéastes Recherchées est de stimuler la création d’œuvres originales de la relève et de les faire connaître. Le concours vise également à établir un pont entre les jeunes créateurs et les professionnels du milieu mais aussi, entre les grands centres de production et les régions. Cette année encore, les œuvres retenues seront présentées en salle au grand public et les gagnants se mériteront plus de $20 000 en prix.

Untitled Snapshot Show

Untitled Snapshot Show will be mounted in January 2012 at
Forgetus Collective. Through an open submission process,
Untitled Snapshot Show will feature works that explore the
genre of snapshot imagery with an artistic mindset. It will be the
first show of its kind; taking everyday snapshot photos of varying
medium and size, and curating them into a refined fine art
exhibition. Snapshot images are traditionally informal
photographs taken quickly to document a moment, often shot
with a 35mm handheld camera. In modern times, the medium
can be expanded to include but aren’t limited to; point-and
shoot digital cameras, cellphone cameras and webcams. We
encourage you to work in a medium you feel comfortable and
invokes your own interpretation of the artistic snapshot.

The +15 Window Space is located off-site in the EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts on the busy +15 pedway system. Exhibitions in this storefront style window are two months long. Professional artists, as well as those who are still completing their education are eligible to apply to this space.  The +15 Window is designed to provide artists an alternative space in which to showcase new works or works in progress, whist engage a diverse cross section of Calgary’s public.

TRUCK accepts submission in ELECTRONIC FORMAT ONLY. Please send all written support as a SINGLE PDF FILE. Images must be in JPEG FORMAT burned to a single CD. The Island Media Arts Festival in Prince Edward Island call for submissions is now open!

In its third year, this year’s festival theme is Diverse Networks. What connects seemingly dissimilar people? What technologies and mediums unite media artists from all perspectives? In this spirit, IMAF2012 seeks to connect media artworks made throughout the Atlantic provinces.

With screenings province-wide, workshops, panel discussions, networking events, street-projections, and parties, IMAF is a little festival with big heart.

imagineNATIVE and the NFB Renew Digital Media Partnership with Call for Proposals for
Innovative Interactive Works

Toronto, November 16, 2011 – The imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) have renewed their digital media partnership for a second year of collaboration, and are inviting Canadian Aboriginal artists to submit proposals for innovative interactive digital media projects. Proposals can be for works in any digital medium and genre, including interactive documentary, mobile and locative media, interactive animation, interactive photo essay, data visualization and physical installation.

De Nort, an online locative video, photo and auditory journey into life on a northern reserve by Winnipeg’s ITWE collective, was selected through last year’s call for proposals and is now in pre-production at the NFB’s Winnipeg production studio. It’s slated to launch at the 2012 imagineNATIVE Festival.

“We’re thrilled to be renewing our partnership with imagineNATIVE and deepening our connection with artists in the Aboriginal digital media community,” says Cindy Witten, Director General of the NFB English Program. “It’s a fantastic collaboration, bringing together imagineNATIVE’s curatorial smarts and commitment to the digital arts and our role as a creative laboratory working with talented artists to explore the creative application of technology to interactive storytelling.”

“As we continue to expand and develop the presentation of Indigenous media arts at imagineNATIVE, we’re pleased to partner once again with the NFB,” says Jason Ryle, Executive Director of imagineNATIVE. “Interest in last year’s project was incredibly high, and we all look forward to this year’s applications. This project is a fantastic opportunity to create an innovative work and continue our fruitful partnership with the NFB.”

One project will be selected jointly by imagineNATIVE and the NFB for production, with the NFB serving as creative and administrative producer and imagineNATIVE providing creative input at key stages throughout the production. The project will be presented at imagineNATIVE 2013. The chosen project must be realizable within a $30,000 to $50,000 budget range.

imagineNATIVE has been active in the programming and commissioning of digital media work by Aboriginal artists since the early 2000s. The NFB is Canada’s leading producer of internationally acclaimed innovative interactive digital media works, and has been producing audiovisual works by First Nations, Metis and Inuit directors since the late 1960s. The NFB works with a range of artists to reflect Canadian perspectives through film, video and interactive digital media projects.

Industrial Art Wanted
There was a time when things were built to do one thing well and last for decades. While many of them have weathered years of history and neglect, others have been re-purposed to serve contemporary needs. Scrap steel and wood have been recycled to create unique decorative arts, decrepit architecture has been salvaged in parts or immortalized by pictorial artists and machine age items has been carefully restored to their original glory. Artscape is Now Accepting Expressions of Interest for Use of Performance and Event Space at the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre, Toronto

Artscape is currently seeking expressions of interest for the performance and event spaces at the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre, slated to open in late Spring 2012. This 60,000 sq. ft. purpose-built facility is poised to become the artistic, cultural and social core of the Regent Park and the newest addition to downtown Toronto’s thriving cultural landscape.
The Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre has four street-level performance and event spaces suited to a diversity of disciplines and organizations. Imagine world-class dance performances and community film festivals in the Performance/Event Space, open-air concerts and plays in the Outdoor Performance Court, poetry slams in The Café, exhibitions in the South Lobby, and more!
Designed by the award-winning Diamond & Schmitt Architects, the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre is located on Dundas Street, just east of Parliament St., in the heart of the Regent Park Revitalization. With approximately 17,000 new and returning community members, new parks, pedestrian-friendly mews and over 40,000 sq. ft. of new retail space, Regent Park will soon emerge as a new hotbed of cultural activity in Toronto.
The Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre will be a central meeting place rooted in Regent Park and open to the world. It will be a place where people of all ages, walks of life and cultures can come together to learn, share, create and be inspired. Those interested in using performance and event space in the Centre must submit an expression of interest to be reviewed by a Programming Advisory Committee. Scheduling of the performance and event spaces will be prioritized according to the vision and values of the Centre.
The 6,000 sq. ft. Performance/Event Space will be fully-equipped and supported by an A/V booth, kitchen, green room and dressing rooms. The space can also be partitioned into three distinct smaller spaces to accommodate smaller events. The Café, South Lobby and Outdoor Performance Court and can be used as independent programming spaces or as spillover space for events inside the Performance/Event Space.

The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers is pleased to present the 20th annual $100 Film Festival from March 1-3, 2012. The festival embodies the spirit of independent filmmaking and brings the experience of projected celluloid to our audience by only screening film prints. It is one of only a handful of festivals left in the world that screens exclusively on Super 8 and 16mm film. The $100 Film Festival does not charge any entrance fees and pays artist honorariums for all films selected for the festival. The selected films will also be eligible for festival prizes.

In 2012, Subtle Technologies celebrates our 15th anniversary with our annual Festival.

For 15 years Subtle Technologies has been bringing people together to promote wonder, incite creativity and spark innovation across disciplines. Our symposium, performances, workshops, screenings, exhibitions and networking sessions provide a forum to explore ideas and pose questions at the intersection of art, science and technology. Subtle Technologies is known internationally for presenting work by artists and scientists at the leading edge of their respective disciplines.

Our 2012 festival takes place from May 24 to May 27 2012 at various venues throughout Toronto. Our annual open call accepts submissions that bridge art, science and technology. This year we are also accepting submissions for a themed session which explores work inspired by biology, as outlined below. For both streams we are soliciting proposals from all disciplines and also welcome topics that explore ways of knowing that are outside of the western framework.

We are interested in receiving submissions from individuals as well as interdisciplinary teams and collaborative projects. We would like to present successful stories from artists and scientists working together. We are equally interested in hearing about the issues that inhibit disciplines from collaborating. What approaches can we take to foster inter-cultural exchanges when it comes to science or technology based work? How do we make scientific systems more accessible to artists as tools for creating new work?

Projects which use concepts of biomimicry, genetic engineering and synthetic biology will also be considered for this special session. We are interested in both technical, socio-political and ethical issues surrounding this work.

The above topics are only suggested ones for inclusion in the Festival. Other relevant topics within the realm of art, science and technology will be considered.

While HMC does not provide funding for residencies, we are helping to facilitate the creation of program, the cost of the exhibitions and cover %40 of total cost, artists cover %60.   We encourage the applicants to apply for a grant or scholarship.

The residence offers shared room/bath as living quarters, and working area, few single rooms may be available at an extra fee.  Exhibition, Artist Talk, field trip, gallery tour are included in the cost.
There is a cost to attend the residency of $1250 or Euro 900.  Longer or shorter stays can be arranged.  Artists are expected to pay all travel expenses, personal costs, visa (if necessary), insurance, and to supply artist materials for their use during the residency.   We can provide basic materials and tools.
Artists are expected to give at least one informal public audio-visual presentation about their work during their residency and to leave one piece of work made during the residency as a donation to the HMC.

Successful applicant wish to be accompanied by family members or an assistant, it is necessary to consult with HMC beforehand.
Artists will give at least one informal public slide/powerpoint/DVD/CD presentation (30 – 45 minutes) about their work during their stay at the HMC and leave one exhibition ready art work made during the residency as a donation to the HMC.  Exhibitions are arranged at the Pen Club and at Raday Konyveshaz Gallery, Budapest in August, 2012.

Cet appel à projets s’adresse à tous les artistes, théoriciens, architecte ou sans étiquette ayant une approche expérimentale de leur médium (quel qu’il soit)

LA RÉSIDENCE : Tout au long de l’année APO33 invite des artistes à développer un travail insitu (sur le site) à travers une exposition, présentation, expérimentation, mise en abîme de leur propre travail ou en forme de collaboration (selon les propositions). La résidence se développe habituellement sur deux niveaux : un premier de préparation (environ 1 month) de l’installation, performance… ou pour expérimenter un projet de performance ou de construction architecturale et une deuxième étape où l’espace est ouvert au public (visite, participation, rendez-vous…). APO33 propose aussi son assistance technique aux personnes invités et notamment pour ceux qui utilisent des outils numériques et ouvert à l’utilisation de logiciel libre et open source. Les personnes invités pourront si elles le souhaitent faire une présentation de leur approche voir de questionnements plus théoriques sur les problématiques de la proposition.

Nomadic Village UK 2012
County Durham, North East England, May 21st – June 3rd 2012

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The Nomadic Village is a temporary 10-day settlement set up on a vacant lot in County Durham, UK. The nomadic artists’ mobile homes/ateliers will form the structure of the Village, with On The Road Productions’ (ORP) Steyr-Ikarus bus acting as its townhall. Artists will come together to work in this autonomous environment to stimulate creativity and exchange, and attract local people to observe and participate in the process. At the end of the Village there will be a public exhibition/show that will invite a wider audience to appreciate the works produced during the Village. The project is run by Klaus Maehring (Lead Artist and founder) from ORP/Austria.
The Nomadic Village UK 2012 is produced in collaboration with ISIS Arts (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK) and supported by Durham County Arts Team. It will seek to invite nomadic artists from all over the world, whose practice is rooted in themes surrounding nomadism; those who intentionally displace themselves to seek encounters that not only influence their work but form it; artists who work without borders and constantly respond to situations, places and people along their journey. The Nomadic Village will act as a platform for artists working in this manner, ultimately creating a wider, more visible network for nomadic artists.
How to Apply:
This call is open to artists from all over the world, who preferably come with their own mobile space to live and work in. To apply please send us a description of the project you would like to realise at the Nomadic Village, an artist bio/statement and CV. Include supporting material/documentation of previous work, either attached to email or send us web links. Make sure we get an idea about who you are, your artistic practice, who is involved and what kind of mobile structure you will travel/work/live in. Let us know if for some reason you can’t come with your own vehicle; we might be able to provide you with a space. The Nomadic Village provides the site, infrastructure and food but does not pay for artists coming to the Village. However, if your travel costs are especially high, e.g. if you are coming with a big diesel hungry truck or flying from far away, you can apply to the Dizel Grant (see below).
We highly encourage you to contact us to talk about your proposal ideas, mobile space and travel arrangements before submitting an application – just for an informal chat, remember the deadline for submissions is Monday 28th November-so make sure you leave enough time to contact us.

Dizel Grant:
The Dizel Grant is an uncomplicated small grant to enable nomadic artists’ travel to the Nomadic Village UK 2012. It is especially for artist whose cost of travel is high. To apply for the Dizel grant send us your travel itinerary including costs. We highly encourage you to discuss this with us before submission and we can give you an idea of the level of support we can provide on a case by case basis.
The Traveling Exhibition:
After the public presentation in the Village, a selection of the artists’ work will be curated into a group exhibition. The bus will then hit the road, serving as a mobile gallery across England and Europe. It will travel to remote areas such as small villages and rural locations, as well as to cities and art centres.
Selection criteria includes:
• Artists whose work looks at themes of nomadism, working without borders, displacement,   dislocation, journey.
 • Work that responds to the place and the situation.
 • Artists who practice explores places, meeting/interacting with strangers, going into the
  unexpected.
 • Access to live/work mobile space.
 • Ability to commit to entire Village.
The Nomadic Village will provide:
• All meals provided with dinners cooked by Umesh Maddanahali, other meals provided on a DIY base.
 • letters of invitation and other support to enable you to raise additional funds.
 • Facilities – including electricity, toilets, running water, wifi.
 • Contact to the local community.
 • Equipment for final presentation (Artists must provide their own equipment and materials   forrealising their projects during the Village).
 • Documentation of project.
Timetable:
•  Monday 21st – Thursday 24th of May: Arrival and set-up
 •  Thursday 24th of May: Launch event, press conference
 •  Friday 25th – Thursday 31st of May: Production time
 •  Friday 1st of June: Final presentation closing event
 •  Saturday 2nd of June: Last Supper
