From One Territory to Another - Gathering
Installation

Using the bridge as a symbol of passage, Diane Cartier Lafontaine examines the intimate relationship between humans and nature. During her two-week residency in St. Boniface, she invited people she met to gather seeds from their favourite plants for her installation. They returned with several plants along with stories about their provenance, childhood memories, and personal anecdotes. The artist chose an antique cabinet, human in size and scale, to present these offerings. Carefully and artfully arranged in the cabinet drawers and cupboards are a variety of seeds, flowers, wild plants. The artist creates a new environment for these offerings marked by history and time - primitive, nomadic and an integral part of the cultural landscape we carry within us. She invites us to embark on a journey of reflection and questioning. Where does one territory start and another end?
