For the artist, an understanding of human life
begins with the cell – nucleic matter that we inherit from
our ancestors and that we in turn transmit to future generations.
At the center of the cell are chromosomes, the genetically coded
thread-like structures that define us as unique individuals and
that form the essence of being. In this sculpture, the artist merges
the scientific properties of cell structure into her artistic practice
to explore the connections between humans and the physical world,
and the trajectory from the beginning through to the end of life
with all its socio-cultural implications. The cell, like a bridge,
becomes the central connecting link between disparate elements.
Le Point Central marries art and science to
create a visual metaphor of the bridge as the symbolic link between
the disparate elements.
