La Liste

L’Association des groupes en arts visuels francophones (AGAVF) présente les événements de ses quinze centres d’artistes et galeries membres à travers le pays et compile les appels de dossiers en arts visuels, arts médiatiques, performance, art public qui s’adressent aux artistes et aux commissaires.

Situé dans l’Outaouais, DAÏMÔN est un centre d’artistes autogéré qui a pour mission de soutenir la recherche – création, la production et la diffusion des arts médiatiques et numériques. À travers ses programmes de résidences d’artistes, soutien aux premières œuvres et programme de recherche et création, le centre invite les artistes à pousser les limites de leur pratique et à développer de nouvelles approches par le biais de l’image, de la photographie, de la vidéo, des arts sonores et des arts numériques; y compris les pratiques de l’installation et de la performance.

Le Centre DAÏMÔN encourage les croisements entre les disciplines de même qu’il soutient la recherche dynamique entre les arts et la technologie. Le centre met à la disposition des artistes l’hébergement et offre un espace de travail, un accès aux équipements et un encadrement technique. Les locaux de DAÏMÔN sont situés à la Filature, bâtiment un du patrimoine industriel de la ville de Hull, à Gatineau. Les espaces de la Filature sont partagés avec AXENÉO7, centre en Arts visuels.

Résidence d’artiste – 4 semaines
Offert aux artistes professionnels. Il s’adresse aux artistes en mi-carrière et établis ou qui ont cumulé plus de cinq (5) années de pratique. Les artistes du Québec, du Canada et de l’étranger sont admissibles à ce programme.

DAÏMÔN offre :
– L’encadrement technique et artistique
– L’hébergement pour la durée de la résidence
– L’accès à l’équipement du Centre
– Les services d’un technicien
– Un cachet de 1700$
– Des indemnités de déplacement*
* Tous les autres frais concernant la production du projet doivent être assumés par l’artiste.

 

Recherche et création – 4 semaines
Ce programme est offert aux artistes professionnels de la relève, en mi-carrière ou établis qui ont une pratique en arts médiatiques. Ce programme de résidence n’offre pas l’hébergement. Les artistes de la région de Gatineau – Ottawa, du Québec et du Canada sont admissibles à ce programme.

DAÏMÔN offre :
– L’encadrement technique et artistique
– L’accès à l’équipement du Centre
– Les services ponctuels d’un technicien
– Des indemnités de déplacement et des indemnités quotidiennes*
* Tous les autres frais concernant la production du projet doivent être assumés par l’artiste.

 

Soutien aux premières œuvres – 2 à 4 semaines

DAÏMÔN maintient par ce programme son soutien à la réalisation d’une première oeuvre en arts médiatiques pour les artistes de la région de Ottawa – Gatineau et de l’Outaouais. Sont admissibles à ce programme, les artistes, en début de carrière, avide de créer dans un contexte professionnel une première proposition en arts médiatiques. Les artistes professionnels ayant déjà une pratique artistique dans une autre discipline et voulant développer une production en nouveaux médias sont également admissibles.

– L’encadrement technique et artistique
– L’accès à l’équipement du Centre
– Les services ponctuels d’un technicien
– Un cachet de 750$*

Les dossiers seront sélectionnés par un comité de programmation.

Votre dossier doit comprendre:
– Une indication claire du choix du programme
– Votre curriculum vitae (max. 3 pages) avec vos coordonnées complètes
– Une description du projet (maximum 500 mots)
– Une liste des besoins techniques
– Un échéancier de production (max. 1 page)

– Un maximum de 15 images OU

APPEL DE DOSSIERS – Lignes de différence: L’art de traduire l’islam

Pour son exposition à venir, Lignes de différence: L’art de traduire l’islam, la commissaire Noor Banghu cherche des soumissions d’artistes visuels de tous horizons islamiques. Le but de cette exposition est de réfléchir aux transformations de la signification de l’islam à travers la religion, la culture, la nation et comme point de contestation dans ces voix dont les antécédents et les identités reviennent à l’islam. Compte tenu de l’urgence dévastatrice de diversifier l’islam, il faut voir le langage et les actes de (non)traduction comme un point de départ afin de pour considérer les façons dont la différence peut être négociée et dont les solidarités puissent se créer. Dans ce projet, l’attention sera dirigée afin de réfléchir localement aux répercussions qui émanent de la diaspora et des rencontres interculturelles dans l’Ouest.

Par cet appel de dossier, un artiste sera sélectionné pour se joindre aux artistes Midhat Alam, Hassaan Ashraf, Zahra Baseri et Hazim Ismail. L’artiste  doit s’identifier comme francophone doit entretenir des liens avec l’islam par le biais de la religion, de la culture ou de la nation. La force de ces affirmations dépend de chaque appliquant et ne sera pas régi par la commissaire. Les artistes de tous médians sont invités à soumettre une proposition. L’artiste sélectionné sera payé selon les standards de la CARFAC pour une exposition collective.

Le Centre CLARK invite les artistes, les collectifs et les commissaires à soumettre un projet à l’automne de chaque année. Ne privilégiant aucun champ disciplinaire ni médium en particulier, CLARK est ouvert à la pluralité des approches et des formes. Qu’il s’agisse d’exposer les œuvres d’artistes émergents ou aguerris, le centre encourage les pratiques qui explorent de nouvelles avenues. Les dossiers seront étudiés et sélectionnés par un comité de programmation.

La Maison des artistes visuels francophones vous invite à soumettre une proposition d’exposition Studio.

CRITÈRES Être artiste francophone ou artiste provenant d’une autre communauté en situation minoritaire ou artiste explorant un thème lié à La Maison et ses préoccupations. Bien que les artistes de partout sont invités à soumettre des projets, une attention particulière est accordée aux propositions des artistes du Manitoba, de l’ouest canadien et des artistes provenant de milieu rural.

Notez que La Maison n’est pas en mesure d’offrir un cachet d’artiste pour ces expositions. L’artiste bénéficie par contre d’un lieu d’exposition de courte durée (2 à 4 semaines) ainsi que d’un vernissage, du soutien professionnel et de promotion autour de l’exposition.

Programmation 2019-2021 / 
Arprim, centre d’essai en art imprimé

Les artistes, les collectifs et les commissaires professionnels ayant des pratiques actuelles liées aux arts imprimés sont invités à proposer un projet d’exposition ou d’événement (projet ponctuel, lancement de livre d’artiste, performance, etc.) pour les deux prochaines années de programmation, soit 2019-2020 et 2020-2021.

Arprim aborde l’imprimé comme un média ouvert, mobile, social et accessible. Le centre se définit comme un espace d’essai et d’expérience propice au développement d’une vision pluraliste de l’art imprimé. En tant que diffuseur de l’art actuel, il contribue à accroître la visibilité de pratiques émergentes en art imprimé en présentant des expositions, des événements, des actions hors les murs et en organisant des événements spéciaux.

Arprim s’engage à couvrir les frais reliés à la salle d’exposition, aux communications et au vernissage.

Centre de diffusion en art contemporain situé au cœur du quartier dynamique du Mile End, Diagonale présente annuellement un programme d’expositions, de résidences et de conférences. Les commissaires et les artistes en arts visuels et médiatiques sont invités à soumettre leurs projets pour la programmation régulière de la galerie.

OPTICA présente annuellement un programme varié d’expositions, de conférences et de rencontres avec les artistes et s’investit dans la production de commissariats d’expositions en relation avec les thématiques développées par le centre. L’ensemble de ces programmes propose une réflexion critique sur l’actualité de l’art, soutenue par une activité éditoriale.

Le centre comporte deux espaces d’exposition et offre une aide technique professionnelle en galerie. Les artistes et les commissaires sont invités à déposer des projets pour la programmation régulière en galerie. La nature des projets est soumise au comité de programmation qui recommande leur réalisation.

OPTICA verse des droits d’exposition aux artistes et aux commissaires selon les barèmes recommandés par le RAAV et CARFAC.

La Galerie Forest City (FCG) est un centre d’art autogéré qui encourage l’autonomie artistique et qui est voué à l’excellence des expositions et des événements qu’elle met sur pied. Cet engagement reflète les développements récents survenus en matière de production culturelle. La FCG sollicite des propositions innovatrices de la part des artistes et des conservateurs ou conservatrices relevant de toutes les disciplines et de tous les niveaux de carrière, l’accent étant mis sur les pratiques et les artistes émergents.

La FCG vise à favoriser et à soutenir l’art contemporain, tout en veillant à promouvoir le dialogue entre les communautés artistiques locales, régionales et internationales. 2019 Concept – Wearing the Land

UCA invites artists to develop temporary outdoor installations animated by the theme of Wearing the Land, expressing the idea of reciprocity between the landscape of King’s County, Nova Scotia, and the people who live there.

People have passed through, lived in, and cultivated this region for millenniums. Our habits of movement wear paths and tracks along the land; sweeps of cultivated fields, flattened forest, shorelines reconstructed and waterways rerouted (or polluted) are the purposeful indications of ourselves on the landscape. We wear the land with the marks of our occupation, whether temporary or permanent, settler or original inhabitant, urbanite or rural dweller, capitalist or worker.

Taking this notion a step further, you might say that in shaping the land, the land shapes us. How we occupy and move through a landscape impresses itself upon our imaginations, our minds, our identities as well as our bodies.

In proposing the theme of Wearing the Land, UCA asks artists to consider the relationship between landscape and the people who inhabit it with a broad eye and, to paraphrase Robert MacFarlane, to think of it as the relationship between the landscape and the human heart.

Uncommon Common Art (UCA) is an annual site responsive art project that brings visual art out of institutions and into rural communities of Kings County, Nova Scotia between June 1 to October 30. This free event which is starting its’ 12th year, highlights the exceptional location of the Minas Basin Valley. UCA Guidebooks leads residents and visitors to explore the art installations in our communities, nature trails, and country lanes. Our projects expand the relationship of art and nature, and constantly work to make visual art and physical activity a more important part of life in Kings County.

A jury composed of professional artists and community members will select the artists for the exhibition. Applicants will be notified November 1.

Deadline for Winifred Shantz Award is September 24!

Are you an emerging ceramic artist? Do you want to develop your artistic practice? We have an opportunity for you!

The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery is calling for submissions to the 2018 Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics. In order to be considered, applications for the award must be received electronically by Monday, September 24, 2018.

This prestigious national award allows practising early career ceramic artists to undertake a period of independent research, or other activities that advance their artistic and professional practice. The winner of the Award will receive $10,000. The selection is made by a jury comprised of respected contemporary ceramic artists and other arts professionals. The winner will be celebrated and the award presented at a ceremony in Waterloo, Ontario on Saturday, December 1, 2018.

To be eligible for the Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics, artists must be Canadian citizens or have Permanent Resident status. They must have developed skills through training and/or practice in the field (not necessarily in academic institutions) and be recognized by other artists working in the same artistic tradition. Successful candidates seek payment for their work and actively practice their art. All applicants have maintained a professional practice for no more than 10 years prior to the date of application.

AKA supports the creation and development of artist driven initiatives and emerging practices that speak to, reflect and encourage dialogue in our culturally diverse communities. This includes work in all media by local, national and international artists. Our venues consist of a street-level gallery, billboard and multi-use screening and performance event space; we also source off-site locations for site-specific projects.

AKA accepts submissions on an ongoing basis for project/exhibition proposals that consider AKA’s history and setting.

Support for selected projects/exhibitions includes: curatorial assistance, shipping, insurance, installation/strike assistance, promotion, documentation and the potential development of accompanying programming suited to the form of the project. Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) Submission Guidelines
Exhibition proposals are accepted throughout the year and reviews are ongoing.  Selection is carried out over a period of time through studio visits and correspondence with artists and curators in whom the gallery has an interest.  Those interested in proposing their work to SAAG are asked to include with their submission: a curriculum vitae, an artist statement and/or letter of intent, a wide selection of images, and other relevant support material. The gallery will not return your submission – please do not send original artworks or valuable materials.   Given the large number of submissions received by the gallery, formal letters of reply will only be issued to proposals of immediate interest.

Exhibitions are generally six weeks in length.  An opening is held to introduce the work to the public.  Artists are also invited to give an illustrated lecture on their work in conjunction with the University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Art during the academic year.  Other special events (workshops, panel discussions, etc.) are considered on a case-by-case basis.

The Southern Alberta Art Gallery pays CARFAC fees, shipping and insurance, and often seeks funding to produce catalogues for the exhibition.  All publications, including our quarterly newsletter GALLERY (which discusses and reproduces work by exhibiting artists along with other programming), are exchanged with other institutions in Canada and abroad.

CALL TO ARTISTS FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST:
NEW ART and LANDSCAPE COMMISSION
ON TORONTO’S WATERFRONT…INSPIRED BY TERRY FOX

INVITATION
Legacy Art Project Toronto is inviting Canadian artists to submit an expression of interest for a permanent public art commission in a landmark location on Toronto’s Waterfront. The Legacy Art Project Toronto…Inspired by Terry Fox is a public art concept that is realized as a fully integrated, art-led landscape. It will become a gathering place which embraces the key concepts of innovation, perseverance, community engagement, interactivity and hope, which Terry Fox exemplified.

In July 2018, Toronto City Council approved allocation of the downtown waterfront site located between the Music Garden and the Spadina Wetlands for Legacy Art Project Toronto…Inspired by Terry Fox. The footprint of this art-led landscape commission will occupy approximately 1/3-1/2 of the available open green space on the identified waterfront site (~1440m2 – 2160m2) and will be synergistic with the existing landscapes on either side of the site, becoming part of a neighbourhood with numerous existing public artworks.

VISION
Legacy Art Project Toronto is creating a public space which pays tribute to the spirit of altruism, selflessness, courage, determination and action that Terry Fox embodied. Rooted in the legacy of Terry Fox’s power to inspire, this project will honour our collective past and look towards our shared future. Terry Fox’s mother always portrayed Terry as “an ordinary boy who did something extraordinary” and his legacy points to every person’s capacity to do something extraordinary in their own lives.

While there are many powerful, figurative representations of Terry across Canada, this project is envisioned differently, looking to the future, not the past, looking at the collective rather than the individual, and aiming to inspire all visitors with the spirit and ideals that drove Terry on his quest to demonstrate that “Anything is possible if you try.”

The art and landscape commission will create a setting to ignite passion, inspire action and generate impact. A journey through the site will engage and inspire visitors to ask themselves what extraordinary thing they can do – a question relevant to Canadians, present and future.

SELECTION PROCESS
Please note that submissions to this Call must come from Artists and that it is expected that the Artist will be the project lead (both conceptually and administratively) for this collaboration. All Artists shortlisted to prepare proposals must collaborate with a Landscape Architect who will support realization of the artistic concept with landscape integration, structure and material. Landscape Architects must be licensed to practice in the province of Ontario under the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects Full Reciprocity Agreement. Artists who have a preferred Landscape Architect collaborator must identify this individual or firm in this submission, and confirm their qualifications.

It is not expected that Landscape Architects are exclusive at this stage. Artists who do not have a preferred Landscape Architect collaborator must indicate this in their submission and Legacy Art Project Toronto’s art consultant will assist with identifying an appropriate collaborator.

Shortlisted artists will be asked to develop proposals that can be scaled to both ends of the fundraising objective; the art and landscape commission will be between $600,000 and $1,200,000 CDN (inclusive of HST and all associated costs, including professional fees).

The selection process and project implementation will be facilitated by Rebecca Carbin, Art + Public UnLtd.

Phase One: Expressions of Interest (please see submission requirements below)

Submission deadline: October 8th, 5PM

Phase Two: A shortlist of three to five artists will receive a Request for Proposals and an honorarium to develop an art and landscape concept for the site.

Artists who have not identified a Landscape Architect as part of their team in Phase One will be assisted in identifying a potential Landscape Architect with whom to collaborate on this project and develop a proposal for Phase Two.

The same jury, comprised of representatives of the project team, stakeholders and independent experts will select both the short list and the winning proposal.

The contract will be awarded by January 2019 and project initiation is anticipated before July 2020.

BACKGROUND
When Terry Fox reached Toronto in July 1980, thousands lined the streets and Nathan Philips Square to cheer him on. The love and support Terry received in Toronto was a turning point for the momentum of the Marathon of Hope and catapulted its fundraising for a cure to cancer. Terry’s parents (and key community members) had long hoped that a permanent tribute to Terry would be established in Toronto to both commemorate his run and recognize his unparalleled contribution to Canada. Terry’s selfless pursuit of a cure for cancer has energized countless others around the globe to “dream big”, to discover, innovate and persevere over the past 38 years.

Legacy Art Project Toronto and its working group include diverse members of Toronto’s community from business and civic leaders to philanthropists, planners, architects and dedicated volunteers. Artist Design for Park Sculpture
Burnet Park
Town of Oakville

The Town of Oakville invites professional and emerging artists to submit proposals to design a public artwork at Burnet Park to commemorate Oakville’s early Black history.

The final artwork will be a site specific sculpture that incorporates local lake stones. The work will be fabricated and installed by Town staff in a flat green park area approximately 7 x 7 metres.

Eligible artists will be emerging and/or professional Canadian artists with outdoor, installation or public art experience. This call is open to national artists, however preference will be given to artists living within the Greater Toronto Area community. Artists with demonstrated connections to Oakville’s Black history will be given priority.

Burnet Park is located at the corner of Kerr and Burnet Streets. The town has recovered lake stones from the foundation of a local property with historic associations to Oakville’s early Black history. These lake stones are to be integrated into the final artwork.

Proposals will be assessed based on artistic merit, relevance of the proposed artwork to the site and demonstrated capacity to complete the project.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS:
TORONTO SCULPTURE GARDEN

Since opening in 1981, The Toronto Sculpture Garden (TSG) commissioned temporary artworks by over 80 artists, in a small City of Toronto park opposite St. James Cathedral on King Street east. Until 2014, it was operated as a partnership between the City of Toronto and the Louis L. Odette family, whose non-profit L.L.O. Sculpture Garden Foundation funded and administered the exhibitions. Under the direction of Rina Greer, the TSG provided artists with the opportunity to work experimentally in public space, explore issues of scale and materials, and engage with the local community as well as visitors to the neighbourhood. For some, the expansion of their practice beyond the studio led to major public artworks elsewhere.

Now managed by the City of Toronto’s Arts & Culture Services (part of Economic Development & Culture), the TSG will host two projects per year. We are currently inviting proposals from artists for the Spring 2019 installation.

The successful proposal will be selected by the TSG Selection Panel, which will meet in November 2018. Preference will be given to new work that responds to the site; only in exceptional cases will existing work be considered.

Budget: $30,000.00 CAD (+HST), which includes all artists’ fees, materials, installation and removal, transportation, insurance, and permits.
