« Ceci […] pourrait bien être ce que plusieurs d’entre eux font sans se rendre vraiment compte qu’ils participent peut-être à un projet collectif qui englobe toutes leurs interventions et expérimentations individuelles. » – Proverbe Çabôcounien
Contrairement au monument qui incarne une valeur, une émotion et une mémoire collectives dans un ouvrage immuable et grandiose, l’Artiste Inconnu(e) est une entité singulière quoique collective qui n’a pas d’existence publique ou privée qui soit solide et actuelle ; cette entité n’existe qu’à travers un corpus qui demeure à venir, sur un sentier inexploré et sur un quelconque continent.
RECHERCHÉ
Dispersé et démembré, figure aphone, l’Artiste Inconnu(e) est présentement à la recherche de pièces pour reconstituer un corps dans une géographie faite de contours en boucle. Résident des espaces mobiles, en naufrage sur une île flottante, l’Artiste Inconnu(e) exerce de nombreuses occupations sous différents couverts ; la dernière fois qu’on l’a vu(e), il ou elle se dispersait en formes multiples, en actions imprévues et en pensées explosives. Quelqu’un aurait-il croisé pareil individu? Aidez-nous à épingler un(e) artiste inconnu(e) et à donner une forme à cette figure vague.
DÉSIRÉ DE SURCROÎT 
Grâce aux contributions singulières de plusieurs personnes prêtes à renoncer à leurs signatures et autres griffes d’auteurs, cet appel à projets est une invitation à participer à l’assemblage du corpus de l’AI et, par conséquent, à lui donner une base tangible. Les divers travaux, projets, interventions et actions proposés façonneront les attributs et la substance de l’AI. Il s’agit donc ici d’une invitation afin de soumettre des œuvres singulières pour constituer une existence qui se dessinera au fur et à mesure que le corpus prendra forme et commencera à se solidifier pour devenir un récit, une mémoire et une pensée, en équilibre précaire entre le fictionnel (l’AI étant d’emblée non existant) et le (bientôt) réel (l’AI comme entité composite des contributions à venir). L’AI demeure une catégorie floue, formée de caractéristiques incertaines et de topographies mouvantes. Si vous avez un penchant pour la création de personnages-continents encore méconnus et inexplorés, cette quête anonyme vous concerne.
QUELQUES CONSIGNES POSSIBLES
(In)connu(e) pour ses multiples approches et styles, visions et textures, politiques et esthétiques, l’AI est un(e) artiste en visite ou en résidence, en transit dans les Amériques ou installé(e) en permanence mais sans le savoir encore. Il ou elle peut également être un(e) futilitariste qui crée des objets pragmatiques sans aucun but particulier mais avec une efficacité redoutable. Le résultat final peut être un portrait-récit-évaluation critique composite de l’AI lui-même, personnage en fuite au sein d’une cartographie en devenir, dont les topographies se cristallisent lentement : pendant que de nouvelles îles émergent, de futurs résidents attendent.

• Un texte présentant votre projet de même que son inscription dans votre parcours artistique ;
• Un curriculum vitæ (max. 3 p.) ;
• Un CD/DVD comprenant un maximum de 15 images (JPGs n’excédant pas 1 Mo ou 1024 X 768 pixels), et/ou un CD/DVD vidéo ou audio (5 min. max.). Un maximum de 2 CD/DVD de documentation est alloué – tout matériel supplémentaire ne sera pas considéré ;
• Une description détaillée de vos images ou vidéos;

Les critères de sélection pour les expositions de Sculptures,
d’Arts Visuels, de Média Digital et
d’Arts Interactifs inclus: la communication artistique, la qualité de
matériaux, l’intérêt
esthétique et la pertinence au thème du festival. Tous les matériaux
doivent être appropriés
pour la présentation publique. La composition est illimitée mais les
oeuvres doivent être
engageants et interactives pour le publique. Les oeuvres seront exposés a

Les oeuvres sont recommandés de mesurer un maximum de 3M de hauteur,
de 1.5M de
largeur et de 250k de poids. Le transport des pièces au site de Osheaga
sera offert à un
groupe d’artistes sélectionnés de Montréal. Les oeuvres venant de
l’extérieur de Montréal
devront arranger leur propre transport. Plus de 500,000 personnes visitent
le Parc Jean
Drapeau chaque année. Le Festival de musique et d’art Osheaga prévoit un
public de
dizaines de milliers au cours des deux jours. Les artistes bénéficient
de visibilité internationale
et de la reconnaissance pour avoir été présenté dans un des sites
d’héritage artistique les plus
célébrés en Amérique du Nord.

FONDS DE PRODUCTION SAW VIDÉO

Le Fonds de production SAW fournit une assistance à la production vidéo, nouveau média ou multimédia, quelle qu’elle soit, sous forme de production ou de post-production. Les prix attribués pour la production sont basés sur les résultats de concours présidés par un jury. Le Fonds de production vidéo de SAW est destiné aux artistes déjà établis et ceux à mi-carrière.

Les projets admissibles sont ceux sur lesquels l’artiste exerce un contrôle aux plans de la création et du montage. Tous les genres sont acceptés (c.-à-d., expérimental, dramatique, documentaire, vidéo d’installation et nouveaux médias). Les artistes venant d’autres disciplines (c.-à-d., théâtre, écriture, arts visuels et danse) sont également les bienvenus.

Les candidats retenus reçoivent :

– une adhésion d’un an à titre de producteur à SAW Vidéo;

– un accès à l’équipement de SAW Vidéo d’une valeur allant jusqu’à 2,550 $. Cet accès gratuit est offert seulement pour l’équipement disponible à SAW Vidéo et doit être utilisé dans le cadre du projet soumis à SAW Vidéo ;

– un crédit de 200 $ pour tout atelier offert à SAW Vidéo;

– 500 $ pour le coût du matériel;

– les vidéos produites seront présentées au Club SAW.

3e Impérial – Granby

Nous invitons les artistes en art actuel à explorer les zones sensibles du territoire humain et géographique dans le contexte du programme de résidence L’ENVERS DE L’ENDROIT.

Comment penser, percevoir, sentir et amuser le réel de façon dynamique ? Comment échapper à la stabilité apparente du monde et du présent avec l’objectif de les transformer ? Comment révéler l’invisible ? Par d’habiles détours, par des renversements de perspective, des manoeuvres épiques, la construction d’utopies, ou en dévoilant un entre-lieu ? À vous maintenant de réinventer le miroir d’Alice…
L’ENVERS DE L’ENDROIT, c’est une pensée artistique perpétuellement en mouvement qui, pourtant, ne tourne pas en rond.
C’est à partir de ces prémices de création que nous invitons les artistes en art actuel à venir explorer les zones sensibles du territoire humain et géographique dans le contexte d’une résidence de cinq semaines.

RÉSIDENCE + ART INFILTRANT
Notre concept de résidence se caractérise par une approche d’art infiltrant qui situe la pratique de l’art actuel dans un rapport de proximité à la collectivité et dans des espaces non dédiés à l’art.
Nous entendons par art infiltrant, des pratiques d’art qui opèrent à même le réel par un investissement d’énergie dans le corps social. Les processus de l’art infiltrant privilégient une diversité d’approches esthétiques et une attitude constructive et ouverte; ils mettent à profit des compétences qui ne relèvent pas exclusivement du champ artistique. À travers une logique de l’apprivoisement, et tout en prenant en charge les considérations éthiques qu’elles soulèvent ces pratiques participent à immiscer l’art dans différentes sphères du quotidien. (par exemple : installation in situ, in socius, performance, manœuvre, intervention urbaine, etc.)

MODALITÉS DE RÉSIDENCE
Une résidence se décline par des étapes de prospection, de démarchage, de production, de communication et de diffusion. Elle comprend un accompagnement professionnel individualisé tant sur le plan artistique, que technique et logistique. Ce processus engage le centre et les artistes dans une relation de co-production pour cibler un contexte et réaliser un projet à partir de sa conception jusqu’à sa diffusion dans l’espace public.
Un premier séjour de prospection d’une semaine permet de clarifier le contexte, de faire un premier repérage territorial guidé et d’évaluer la faisabilité d’un projet et sa pertinence. Par la suite, s’engage un processus opérationnel : discussion et entente sur l’intention artistique, planification, médiation, logistique, technique, etc.). Lorsque les autorisations requises et les confirmations de collaborations sont obtenues, l’artiste revient séjourner pour une période d’un mois qui peut se moduler en deux ou trois séjours, dépendant des stratégies de mise en œuvre et des besoins logistiques du projet. Les étapes du processus se déroulent sur une période allant de cinq mois à un an.
Souplesse, rigueur et éthique sont de mise en regard du fait que nous travaillons avec des publics non captifs ou des communautés non-initiées appelées à vivre une expérience de collaboration inusitée.
Par conséquent, étant donné les particularités du travail de création contextuelle, une connaissance de base du français parlé ainsi que des aptitudes relationnelles sont des critères qui seront considérés par le comité de sélection.
La réalisation et la diffusion d’une oeuvre d’art infiltrant demeure l’objectif de chaque résidence d’artiste. Tous les contextes et toutes les saisons sont à explorer.

Les séjours de résidence auront lieu entre le 16 août 2010 et le 1er septembre 2012.
Les artistes sont invités à envoyer une lettre de motivation. Nous souhaitons connaître leurs intérêts par rapport à notre proposition de résidence en regard de leur démarche ainsi que les pistes de travail qu’ils envisagent par rapport aux modalités de la résidence et à l’orientation de la programmation L’ENVERS DE L’ENDROIT. La Ville de Moncton cherche à obtenir des propositions en vue de la création et de l’installation
d’un projet d’art public au nouveau Pavillon du terrain Rocky Stone. Le projet d’art public est lié aux
travaux d’immobilisations du terrain de football Rocky Stone dans le cadre desquels des nouveaux
pavillon et bâtiment de service ont été construits.

Le présent concours d’art public a pour but d’assurer l’existence d’une expression de la collectivité
dans l’établissement public, ou autour de ce dernier, qui reflète l’esprit de la collectivité, améliore
l’ambiance esthétique du bâtiment et atteste l’engagement de la Ville à l’égard des arts. Il s’agit d’un

MayWorks Kingston Calling on Local Artists

The Kingston MayWorks Festival of Labour and the Arts, is currently seeking submissions from Kingston and the surrounding area for two art exhibitions, in which works will be showcased over the course of the festival and through the month of May. Works will be displayed at Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre and The Sleepless Goat Cafe and Workers-Cooperative that fit within the stated goals and themes of the Mayworks Collective (see below) and the spirit of the Art Policy found on the Sleepless Goat’s website ( http://thesleeplessgoat.ca/art_policy.html ). We encourage submissions from artists of marginalized identities and work experiences.

DESCRIPTION

The WORLD TELEKINESIS COMPETITION is a forum for speculative action —
an organized tournament in which teams from around the world engage in
psychic competition to remotely influence the behavior of a candle.
Matches are played by lighting a candle at the centre of the official
game board, at an agreed-upon time, signaling the beginning of the
game. A match lasts for one hour, or until the game candle is
extinguished, whichever comes first. The object of the game is to have
the wax from the candle drip onto the opposing team’s side of the game
board. This objective is to be accomplished by remote telekinetic
influence. The winning team will be awarded the World Telekinesis
Competition trophy, which they will get to keep until next year’s
competition.

2. A list of three (3) members who comprise the team, and a
concise biographical statement for each team member;

MUSIC VIDEOS CALL FOR ENTRIES

To celebrate the 2010 Halifax Independent Filmmakers’ Festival there will be a closing reception at the North Street Church on Saturday April 17th. The evening will feature a special film program of music videos that will showcase the wealth of film and music talent within the Atlantic Provinces. The music video is often the way in which many emerging filmmakers cut their teeth and over the last twenty years the Maritimes has produced an innovative array of such works. So if you have a music video that is just hot of the press or a seldom seen classic from the past please drop it in to us. There will be no screening fees for this event but the filmmakers who are selected for the program will each receive a complimentary pass for the entire HIFF festival as well as drink vouchers for the screening event. The music video screening will be curated by Siloën Daley & John Mathews.

Submission Criteria

1. All submissions should be marked with the title, director, year, running time and music/band credit.

2. Please include a contact name and email address.

3. Submission format DVD only (preferably a QuickTime data file)

4. There is no Submission fee.

5. More than one entry can be submitted per person.

An ocularcentric assault on the erotics of visuality

Butcher Gallery is accepting submissions of video and
performance for a one-night mashup video installation!
Submissions are due Friday April 23, 2010 at 11:59 p.m., for
exhibition in early summer.

We are looking for video submissions pertaining to themes of
trash, desire, destruction, domination and communion in sexy,
violence- video (art) made for the Internet or inspired by it. Live
performances, performance in front of projection, or
performance on video are all welcome. Guest curator, Jennifer
Chan will disgorge the selected submissions in a mash up
projection installation. Submissions need not be overtly sexy or
violent and can be found footage, documentary, animation,
violence to or against images, fetishistic…etc.

We are calling for submissions from emerging artists, graduating
students, recent graduates, and amateur vloggers. This one
night screening provides artists and non-artists, amateur
producers, performers and/or web geeks with an alternative
exhibition experience.

Accepted artists must consent to their work being remixed,
mashed, looped, and effectively hacked apart to pieces by
curator Jennifer Chan. High quality .mov files or DV video and
stills should be available for accepted submissions. Butcher will
provide technical assistance where possible and basic
audio/video equipment for live performance (see equipment
list).

We welcome submissions from outside of Toronto, but please
note that Butcher Gallery cannot provide curator or artist fees,
travel fees, or cover the transporting or insurance of artwork—
although we wish we could.
All submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee of
emerging artists and relevant professionals.

The candidate chosen for the Joseph Plaskett Award will be an outstanding emerging Canadian artist/student in the field of painting who is currently enrolled or accepted into an MFA program in Canada, or has recently (within 12 months) obtained a Canadian master’s degree with a specialization in painting.

THE AWARD
Established in 2004 by the artist Joseph Plaskett, the Award provides $25,000 to help fund an emerging Canadian painter who will live, create artwork, travel or study in Europe for one year.

Since 2009, the award has been administered by the RCA and coordinated by artist Landon Mackenzie on behalf of the Plaskett Foundation and the RCA Governing Council.

The Royal Institute of Art (Kungl. Konsthögskolan – KKH) in Stockholm is one of the oldest and leading institutions for art education in northern Europe and has a strong international profile. Workshop facilities and teaching staff’s expertise cover the whole artistic field within theory and practice. The Royal Institute of Art also runs postgraduate studies within architecture.

We welcome applications from those who wish to deepen their artistic practice and engage with a creative and reflective process. The proposed research project will have grown out of the applicant’s previously undertaken artistic practice. The aim of the doctoral project is to develop an extensive body of work that shall be publicly presented and to present a documentation of this process in an appropriate format. The documentation should include accessible critical, contextual and reflective elements.

While allowing the research project to enrich the individual understanding, it is envisaged that the outcomes of the research project will contribute to existing discourses surrounding artistic approaches to making.

The Royal Institute of Art’s commitment to research is driven by an ambition to highlight and promote a continual development of artistic achievements within the context of higher art education. It also aims to open up ways in which artistic knowledge can be articulated within its own field, and to examine its own conditions upon which creative work is made.

Call for Papers
Art & the Public Sphere invites contributions from artists, theorists, historians, curators and cultural activists. We seek interdisciplinary articles, which confront orthodoxies, propagate debate and reflect on art’s role in the public sphere. We encourage fresh approaches to research arising from practice, theory, philosophy and politics, and welcome contributions from new and established researchers, scholars, practitioners and professionals. The first issue of the journal will focus on the ‘Intersection of Politics, Art and Urbanism‘ but we also invite contributions for future issues on any aspect of art and the discourses related to the public sphere, such as ‘public’, ‘publicness’, ‘making public’ and ‘publishing’.
Contributions
Full research papers and longer articles should be 6,000-8,000 words. They should include original research or propose new methods/ideas that are clearly and thoroughly presented and argued. Shorter research papers, from 2,000-3,000 words, exploring specific issues and raising questions (or putting a position for debate and response) are also welcome. Now in its second year, Low Lives is a one-night exhibition of live performance-based works transmitted via the internet and projected in real time at numerous venues throughout the U.S. and around the world. Low Lives 2 will be presented as part of Fusebox Festival in partnership with Co-Lab, Austin, TX; Galeria de La Raza, San Francisco, CA; Diaspora Vibe Gallery, Miami, FL; The Temporary Space in Houston, TX; and Terminal, APSU, Clarksville, TN. Low Lives examines works that critically investigate, challenge, and extend the potential of performance practice presented live through online broadcasting networks. These networks provide a new alternative and efficient medium for presenting and viewing performances. Low Lives is about not simply the presentation of performative gestures at a particular place and time but also about the transmission of these moments and what gets lost, conveyed, blurred, and reconfigured when utilizing this medium. Low Lives embraces works with a lo-fi aesthetic such as low pixel image and sound quality, contributing to a raw, DIY and sometimes voyeuristic quality in the transmission and reception of the work. Submissions are welcome from both established and emerging artists.

Sex has a long history of being subjected to technologies of observation, regulation, enhancement, and representation. Certainly many of the discourses and technologies of the Internet have been preoccupied with it, even though the U.S. government and other groups have tried to make it harder for people to find sex online. For example, one of the messages of the “cyberporn scare” of the mid to late 1990s in the U.S. was: It’s here, and it’s bad! But in the drawn-out process of letting everybody know about it, online porn became somewhat normalized. As van Doorn (2009) argues pornography has been involved in a mainstreaming’ process over the past decade…simultaneously, the public discourse on sex and sexuality has grown exponentially. Foucault observes how sundry discourses of sexuality espouse a veil of silence and prudishness towards sex while at the same time positioning people to seek knowledge about it, observe it and talk about it. The rhetoric of the cyberporn scare asked society to wall up and hide pornography, but ended up forcing people to accept it and engage it more directly, whether it is to talk about it, joke about it, actively seek it, or actively avoid it. Web2.0 publishing tools and social media networks have made it easier for people to publically talk about sex and to publish their own sex online for anyone to see. Scholars and artists who explore any aspects of sexuality, NetPorn, the sexualization of Web2.0, sexual identities in postmodern society, and other subject areas addressing sexuality and culture are invited to submit their work.
Each submission should contain name of artist, title, date, size, description of proposal or work, brief statement about the work, and least one or several images in jpeg format.

A special issue of NmediaC, the online Journal of New Media and Culture, will be launched in collaboration with the juried art exhibition at the Museum of New Art in Detroit, Michigan. The articles from this special issue will be featured in the exhibition.

International Quilt Festival/Houston plans to showcase quilts where words and fabric come together to form a unique statement. This is the second year of a three year project that will culminate in a contest in 2011. This exhibit will be one of the highlights of Festival, October 30 – November 7, 2010, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. We would also like to retain quilts for possible exhibit at International Quilt Festival Spring; our spring Quilt Market in Salt Lake City, May 2011; and our summer International Quilt Festival in Long Beach, California, July 2011. This exhibit is open to all.

Visions in the Nunnery is an annual event that showcases some of the most exciting British and International artists who are pushing the elements moving image and performance practice. The University of Maine Museum of Art (UMMA) welcomes submissions from artists for review. UMMA reviews artist materials on a periodic basis and for informational purposes only. The museum’s exhibition programming is determined solely by the Director and Curator.
Submissions should include hard copies of the following (all materials should be clearly marked with the artist’s name and contact details):

Application Details
Each application must include: a completed application form, 250-word artist/curatorial statement, one-page C.V., 10-15 still image work samples OR 2-3 two-minute segments of audio and/or video (or appropriate combination of images, video, audio and web-based work), work sample list, application fee and SASE.

Incomplete or inaccurately assembled applications will not be considered. If no SASE is included, notifications of acceptance or rejection will be sent via email. Please update your contact information if anything changes before you receive notification.

Materials should be submitted via mail.

Nouvelle Résidence: Island6, Chine

• Où c’est?

Island6 est situé au M50, anciennement une usine de textiles industriels aujourd’hui un quartier d’Art qui se trouve sur la rive sud, Suhe Creek, de Shanghai. La galerie comprends plus de 750 mètres carrés d’espace y compris la zone d’exposition et un studio attenant de production, qui font Island6 l’un des plus grands centres d’art à Shanghai. Les ateliers des résidents sont dispersés autour de M50, et la villa des résidents est située près de l’Université de Shanghai.

• Qu’est-ce que c’est?

Island6, une structure fondé et géré par des artistes à but non lucratif, s’est engagé à soutenir les artistes émergents et de contester les définitions et les limites de l’art. Le programme de résidence island6 offre une plate-forme pour les artistes étrangers et locaux, d’âge et de milieux différents, d’expérimenter et de collaborer avec un accent sur les nouveaux médias. Artistes, musiciens, écrivains, architectes, conservateurs, critiques d’art et designers, auront la possibilité de vivre et de créer à Shanghai.

• Que se passe t’il à présent?

Actuellement island6 travaille sur une série de 5 expositions qui se concentre sur la manière dont les études de conscience ont inspiré des œuvres créées par la collective Liu Dao. Ces expositions explorent les thèmes tels que la perception extrasensorielle, de la ethnopharmacologie, la théorie évolutionniste, les rêves lucides, et la notion de temps par rapport à différents états de conscience. Les expositions couvrent les principales approches dans les études de conscience, y compris la psychologie, la parapsychologie (en particulier l’hypnose, hallucination, l’écriture automatique et hyperesthésie), la philosophie, l’intelligence artificielle, sciences cognitives, les neurosciences et les approches spirituelles. À la suite de l’exposition “Synesthesia” et “Placebo” Island6 aura une nouvelle exposition “Fakirs”, ouverture le 16 Janvier. Après “fakirs” il y aura deux expositions de plus de la même collection – “Libido Mortido et “Appareil Psychique”.
