Dazibao est un centre d’artistes voué à la diffusion de la photographie actuelle. Par le biais d’expositions et de publications Dazibao soutient des pratiques artistiques et des réflexions théoriques offrant un point de vue novateur sur la photographie ou proposant des liens singuliers avec d’autres disciplines. Le centre accueille des artistes montréalais, des artistes canadiens ainsi que des artistes de la scène internationale. Dazibao est un tremplin pour de jeunes artistes et pour les artistes à la pratique plus établie, un lieu privilégié pour initier et diffuser de nouveaux projets.

Dazibao et PRIM s’unissent pour offrir une occasion exceptionnelle à un artiste de produire et de diffuser une oeuvre. La proposition retenue tiendra compte des spécificités respectives des deux organismes et devra par conséquent soulever des problématiques propres à la photographie tout en n’ayant crainte d’y confronter l’audio, la vidéo et le traitement numérique.
L’artiste retenu disposera d’un an pour réaliser son projet. Les équipements de PRIM seront accessibles à l’artiste pour l’équivalent d’une somme maximale de 8 000$, selon les taux d’utilisation en vigueur. (PRIM se réserve le droit de limiter le nombre d’heures par secteur). PRIM offrira à l’artiste pour 1 000$ de formation et/ou d’assistance technique (non monnayable ou transférable). Une somme forfaitaire de 2 000$ sera offerte aux artistes provenant de l’extérieur de Montréal en guise de frais de subsistance.
Le projet sera ensuite présenté dans le cadre de la saison de programmation 2009/2010 de Dazibao et bénéficiera de tout l’encadrement logistique ainsi que promotionnel accordé aux programmations régulières du centre. L’artiste recevra un droit d’exposition et des droits de reproduction selon les barèmes (RAAV, CARFAC) en vigueur.

Situé dans l’édifice La Filature – une ancienne filature industrielle
magnifiquement rénovée -, DAÏMÕN offre des ressources de création, de
production et de diffusion dans les domaines de la photographie et des
arts médiatiques.
Par ses programmes Artiste résident, Recherche et création,
Photographie et impression numérique et Soutien aux premières œuvres,
DAÏMÕN encourage les artistes à repousser les limites de leur pratique
et à développer de nouvelles approches par le biais de l’image, de la
vidéo, ainsi que des arts sonores et électroniques, y compris les
pratiques installatives, interactives et performatives. DAÏMÕN
privilégie les projets qui font valoir le jeu de plus en plus complexe
des médias entre eux et qui interrogent les zones intermédiaires et
non seulement les langages constitués des médias utilisés. Seuls les
projets comportant un certain degré de recherche sont considérés.
Avec son STUDIÕ, espace de production et de diffusion, DAÏMÕN favorise
la mise en espace et la mise à l’essai d’œuvres d’envergure, ainsi que
le développement des pratiques transversales. Des rencontres publiques
y sont organisées régulièrement afin de permettre à la communauté de
s’initier au travail des artistes accueillis en résidence. Ce STUDIÕ
multifonctionnel est offert aux artistes pour l’expérimentation, la
production et la présentation d’œuvres dont les composantes requièrent
une infrastructure technique particulière.
DAÏMÕN met à la disposition des artistes des équipements de tournage
et d’enregistrement, et des salles de montage audio et vidéo
numérique. Une chambre noire permet des développements argentiques de
grand format (1m32) à partir de négatifs pouvant aller jusqu’à 280 mm.
Un service d’impression numérique (EPSON Stylus 9600 Pro) est
également disponible.

Offert aux artistes professionnels de l’extérieur de la région Ottawa-
Gatineau, ce programme veut promouvoir des échanges féconds entre les
artistes d’ici et d’ailleurs. Il s’adresse aux artistes en mi-carrière
et établis ou qui ont cumulé plus de cinq années de pratique dans un
champ de recherche spécifique.
Le Centre fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un
séjour de 4 à 6 semaines incluant l’hébergement, l’accès aux
équipements du Centre et les services d’un technicien (60 heures). Un
cachet de 1 500 $ est versé à l’artiste. Certaines indemnités de
déplacement ainsi que des indemnités quotidiennes sont également
payées par DAÏMÕN. Tous les autres frais concernant la production de
ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes. DAÏMÕN organise une
soirée-rencontre avec le public où l’artiste présente son travail
antérieur et actuel.
Recherche et création
Ce programme est offert aux artistes professionnels de la relève, en
mi-carrière ou établis. DAÏMÕN sélectionne six artistes par année,
dont trois parmi les candidats de la région Ottawa-Gatineau et trois
parmi les candidats en provenance de l’extérieur de la région. Le
Centre encourage les candidatures des communautés francophones
excentrées.
DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un
encadrement technique et artistique, l’accès aux équipements du Centre
pendant une durée de quatre (4) semaines et les services d’un
technicien (50 heures). Certaines indemnités de déplacement ainsi que
des indemnités quotidiennes sont également payées par DAÏMÕN pour les
artistes de l’extérieur. Tous les autres frais concernant la
production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes.
Photographie argentique et impression numérique
Ce programme vise à mieux soutenir la création sur support papier en
chambre noire et en impression numérique.
DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un
encadrement technique et artistique; l’accès aux équipements du Centre
pour la réalisation des projets pendant une durée de trois (3)
semaines et les services d’un technicien (15 heures). Certaines
indemnités de déplacement ainsi que des indemnités quotidiennes sont
également payées par DAÏMÕN pour les artistes de l’extérieur. Tous les
autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être
assumés par les artistes. En photographie traditionnelle, les artistes
doivent fournir leurs produits de développement et leurs papiers
photographiques.
Soutien aux premières œuvres
DAÏMÕN maintient son soutien à la réalisation d’une première œuvre
pour trois artistes de la région Ottawa-Gatineau. Les projets
admissibles comportent la production d’une œuvre originale utilisant
la vidéo, ou l’application de médias hybrides à des œuvres d’art.
Sont admissibles à ce programme, les jeunes artistes de la région
Ottawa-Gatineau ayant une formation de base et voulant créer dans un
contexte professionnel une première œuvre dans les champs de la
pratique photographique, vidéographique ou des nouveaux médias. Les
artistes professionnels de la région Ottawa-Gatineau ayant déjà une
pratique artistique dans une autre discipline (peinture, sculpture,
photographie, installation, etc.) et voulant développer une production
en vidéo et/ou en nouveaux médias sont également admissibles.
DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation des projets un encadrement
technique et artistique, l’accès aux équipements pendant une durée de
trois (3) semaines et les services d’un technicien (30 heures). Tous
les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être
assumés par les artistes.
PRÉSENTATION DES DOSSIERS
Les artistes intéressés sont invités à prendre connaissance des
conditions des programmes de création et à faire parvenir un dossier
comprenant:
– une indication claire du choix du programme;
– un résumé du projet (5 lignes);
– un énoncé de la démarche artistique (1/2 page maximum);
– une description du projet (1 page maximum);
– une description des besoins techniques et un échéancier de
production (1 page maximum);
– un curriculum vitæ (3 pages maximum);
– une documentation d’appui * accompagnée d’une liste descriptive;
– une enveloppe affranchie pour le retour du dossier.
* La documentation d’appui doit faire état de la production artistique
et non seulement du projet à réaliser. La documentation d’appui peut
inclure un maximum de 10 images (fichiers numériques, diapositives ou
photographies), une bande VHS, un CD, un DVD (max. 5 min), une adresse
URL ou une publication.
Pour les candidatures au programme Artiste résident, un maximum de 20

Spark Box Studio provides space for artists to live, research, investigate
and experiment in a focused environment. We aim to encourage discovery and

Artist Residency Program:
Spark Box Studio’s Artist Residency Program provides live/work space to
accommodate both emerging and professional printmakers, photographers,

The First White Water Gallery Annual National Juried Drawing Exhibition 2009
The White Water Gallery has been presenting contemporary art from across Canada for over 30 years. Expanding on this success, we are hosting our inaugural juried exhibition. In recent years drawing has redefined itself as one of the most open and adaptable forms of Contemporary art practice. Traditionally, drawing was limited to “work on paper”, but today, it encompasses an ever-expanding range of approaches and methods. White Water Gallery seeks works from across Canada which reconsiders traditional and contemporary approaches to drawing, as both an action and medium.

All work must be unframed
All work submitted must be original. No prints or facsimiles.
There are no size constraints for submissions.
Only Two submissions per artist will be accepted into the jurying process. Shipping and return shipping costs are at the artist’s expense. (Shipping with Canada Post express post tubes is an affordable method of shipping.) The gallery assumes no responsibility for the return of work that arrives without return postage.
All work must be clearly labelled with the artist’s name, title, date, and medium.
*Artists will be notified upon acceptance of their work. For work not accepted into the final selection, artwork will be returned promptly (providing return postage has been provided).
Entry Fee
An entry fee of $25 is required to cover the expenses directly related to presenting this exhibition. This fee is non-refundable and must be received prior to the submission deadline, Oct 5th 2009. 2009 Call for Submissions on the theme HOME

New Adventures in Sound Art invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme HOME for consideration in 2010 future programming for the annual Deep Wireless, Sound Travels, and SOUNDplay festivals, produced by New Adventures in Sound Art in Toronto, Canada. Artists may submit works in one or all of the following four categories: 1) Radio Art, 2) Electroacoustic Music & Sound Art, 3) Videomusic and 4) Installation Art (Note: please send separate submission forms for each entry).
Individual interpretations or variations on the theme HOME are encouraged, but should be realized with sound as the primary component.
All submitted works must respond in some way to the theme HOME in order to be considered for 2010 NAISA programming.
1) Radio Art (for Deep Wireless)
The Radio Art category is for works conceived for radio or that use radio and other wireless technology in their creation and that play with the medium. Works submitted to this category must be less than 60 minutes in duration. Special consideration will be given to 1 minute radio art pieces for broadcast as well as 1 page proposals for collaboration on translocal broadcast performances.
Pieces will be selected for broadcast within Canada and on several international radio stations in May 2010 as part of the Deep Wireless Festival of Radio and Transmission Art.
Both Canadian and International radio art submissions will be considered for inclusion in the following:
-The Deep Wireless 7 radio art compilation CD
-The Radio Art Interventions (1 minute pieces played guerilla-style on radio stations during the Deep Wireless festival)
-The Radio Art Salon – a listening gallery of radio art works exhibited for the month of May.
2) Electroacoustic Music & Sound Art (for Sound Travels)
The Electroacoustic Music & Sound Art category is for multi-channel and stereo works less than 20 minutes in duration and conceived for concert performance or presentation in the Sound Travels festival of sound art. Preferred formats for performance presentation include 5.1, octaphonic, 12 and 16-channel formats in both acousmatic (tape), live and mixed formats. Please indicate in the notes the intended format of presentation and any required instrumentation or specialized equipment.
3) Videomusic (for SOUNDplay)
The Videomusic category is for works that explores non-narrative abstraction with equal emphasis on sound and image. Submitted works will be considered for video screenings with either stereo or multi-channel playback. Submitted works will be considered for screenings in either a performance venue or a small-size gallery alongside other works selected from this call for submissions.
4) Installation Art (for Deep Wireless, Sound Travels or SOUNDplay)
Installation proposals of previously realized works for site-specific and gallery installations with no fixed duration will be considered for presentation as part of Deep Wireless, Sound Travels or SOUNDplay. Site-specific works can be for indoor or outdoor locations. Works can use multichannel or single channel playback and may incorporate any number of media, but must feature original sound as a primary element. Preference will be given to small to medium scale interactive works that appeal to all ages. Please attach a list of the necessary equipment required to mount the installation and which of these items can be supplied by the artist. Submissions should include audio, video or audio-video documentation of previously realized versions of the work.
Submission Guidelines
Please submit a completed submission form (in digital format if possible) along with the proposed works on CD or DVD.
For multichannel works, please include a stereo reduction for reference purposes only. For video works, please include a DVD copy for reference only. Screening and multi-channel masters will be requested later if the work is to be programmed. For installation works or performance proposals, please attach a list of required equipment with indications of equipment that can be supplied by the artist.
Materials will not be returned. Please don’t send original copies.

The Southern Alberta Art Gallery pays CARFAC fees, shipping and insurance, and often seeks funding to produce catalogues for the exhibition. All publications, including our quarterly newsletter Gallery (which discusses and reproduces work by exhibiting artists along with other programming), are exchanged with other institutions in Canada and abroad.

The Centre for Art Tapes, in partnership with the Dalhousie University Art Gallery, has an open call to Canadian artists and distributors for videos dealing with the theme of Caustic Assets.

This theme relates to questions of the recent and continuing economic crisis and its effects on society as it relates to job security and the continuation of a capitalist ideology that does not guarantee freedom from want and violence.
The videos will be presented in October/ November, 2009, at a one-night screening, and will also be presented in the Dalhousie University Art Gallery’s Media Room for five weeks. Artists’ fees will be paid.
Specification: Shorts and longer works up to 20 minutes, completed since 2000.

Call to Artists: Request to Prequalify

The TTC is looking to pre-qualify Artists to become members of the design teams for the TTC’s Transit City Light Rail and Scarborough Rapid Transit Line. As members of the design team, Artists will participate directly in the design of transit facilities such as stations, light rail transit lines and transit stops, and to develop an integrated artwork or artworks for such facilities.
The Artist will be required to work collaboratively with the design team to develop the design of the facility and, where applicable, the facility’s connection to the local community. The Artist may also be responsible for the design and development of integrated artwork(s) that may result from the station design, including overseeing the production of contract documents for the tender, manufacture and installation of the artwork or artworks.
The Artist’s Scope of Work will include all stages of the development and oversight of the installation of the artwork from conception to completion, including but not limited to:
* Working with the design team to achieve an accepted concept within the schedule set for the project;
* Working with the TTC’s art consultant and the station design team to present the concept to the station Art Design Review Committee for approval;
* Conducting technical research and providing samples of the proposed technique of integrating artworks into the station design;
* Working with the TTC’s art consultant and the station design team to present the concept and artwork(s) to both public and TTC events, as required;
* Working with the design team to develop a complete set of contract documents for the manufacture and installation of artworks;
* Working with the TTC’s Construction Department to oversee installation of artworks and integration with proposed designs;
* Working with the design team to address maintenance requirements for the artworks.
The Artist will be required to attend, in person, a minimum of six (6) meetings with the design team, a minimum of two (2) meetings on site, a minimum of two (2) meetings for the purposes of presenting their design proposal to the public and/or to the TTC, a minimum of three (3) meetings for the purpose of presenting their design proposal to the Art Design Review Committee and to attend additional meetings scheduled as required.
The winning artists’ design fee, based on a minimum assumed Scope of Work, is $24,000 (plus GST) minimum. This design fee may be adjusted upwards depending on the actual Scope of Work for each project. Artists will be reimbursed for travel expenses associated with the delivery of their services to a maximum of $5,000 (plus GST).
The Toronto Transit Commission is inviting Artists to submit the materials required for Stage 1 of the Competition: Artist Pre-Qualification. URBAN MOORINGS 2 (2010)
Hamilton Artists Inc. invites artists and curators to submit applications of interest for the Second Biennial of its Public Art Program, Urban Moorings 2. The site-responsive installations will be installed on floating platforms at Cootes Paradise in Hamilton’s West End. The first Urban Moorings exhibit showcased the theme of Shacktown, a working-class settlement that, up until the 1950’s, consisted of housing made from the materials at hand. This community included homes which floated on water, allowing residents to drift to another area of Cootes Paradise when pressured to do so by urban expansion.
This year’s theme: Plant, Animal, Mineral
Alchemical thinking divided nature into the three kingdoms: Plant, Animal and Mineral. Current ecological theory is focused on interconnectedness, rather than the historical divisions and categorizations of living beings. The artists in Urban Moorings 2 take as inspiration the garden areas, nature sanctuaries and trails of the Royal Botanical Gardens, creating installation works that, either loosely or explicitly, reference a plant, animal or mineral within the RBG ecology.
The Project is sponsored by Hamilton Artists Inc., in collaboration with the City of Hamilton and The Royal Botanical Gardens.

The Toronto Sculpture Garden has been a leader in Canada in the commissioning of contemporary sculpture since it opened in 1981. Located in an urban park in the downtown core, it serves as a testing ground for artists to explore public space and to address issues of urban context, materials and scale.
BACKGROUND:
The TSG is a non-collecting institution that is unique in its partnership between the City of Toronto, which owns and operates the site as a city park, and the Louis L. Odette Family, benefactors who created the non-profit L.L.O. Sculpture Garden Foundation which funds and administers the exhibitions. Exhibitions are selected by an Art Advisory Board working with the director, Rina Greer.
Newly commissioned work becomes property of the artist and may be offered for sale after the conclusion of the exhibition.
PROPOSALS:
The TSG’s Art Advisory Board meets three times a year to review specific proposals. Preference is given to new work that responds to the site; only in exceptional cases will existing work be considered. We are currently looking for exhibitions for 2010 and beyond. Proposals must be received by the deadlines each year on January 15, May 15 and September 15.

SoEx Open Submissions
Southern Exposure is committed to supporting new, diverse and risk-taking forms of visual art and is accepting submissions for new work in all visual arts and related mediums. Southern Exposure reviews artists submissions for solo exhibitions, inclusion in group exhibitions, public art projects, public programs and events. A guiding principal of the organization is to offer the opportunity to artists to work in formats and contexts that extend and challenge their creative development. While we primarily focus on supporting local artists we encourage submissions from non-local and international artists as well. SoEx is interested in supporting a diverse population of artists and strongly encourages women and people of color to apply.

The Exploratorium is a museum of science, art, and human perception. Scientists, educators, exhibit developers, and artists – in residency and staff positions – engage in an interdisciplinary approach to both the investigative process and the production of work, which leads to new thoughts, tools, and things. It is a museum filled with interactive science and art exhibits, a national center for teacher development, and host to an award-winning Web site of new teaching resources. Fundamentally, it is a laboratory for the research and development of cultural and scientific innovation, discovery, and play.
Mission of the Arts Program
The mission of art at the Exploratorium is to advance a culture of experimentation and collaboration, to engage artists in all facets of museum endeavor and community life, to inspire curiosity and understanding among diverse audiences, and to produce objects, experiences, and knowledge that stimulate new ideas and new directions in the arts, sciences and education.
Who Should Apply
Given the resources and strengths of the Exploratorium, artists should be interested in interdisciplinary dialogue, open to new and engaging modes of information gathering, and curious regarding potential collaboration. Local, national, and international artists are welcome to apply. Local residents receive open access to facilities, a budget for materials and food, and a monthly stipend. Typically, local artists are in residence anywhere from one month to one year. We are more interested in subsidizing a long-term relationship than a short-term product. National and international artists receive travel and lodging coverage in addition to materials, food and stipend. National and international artists are in residence anywhere from one week to one month. If you are selected to work with the Exploratorium, we will jointly figure out a schedule that fits both your calendar and the perceived commitments of the proposal.
We are looking for artists to conduct research and create work in a variety of media – sculpture, film, video, performance, photography, sound, and installation – to potentially, but not necessarily, augment our large-scale thematically-based exhibitions. These projects take the form of both self-directed and project-based residencies.
Self-directed residencies allow us to provide artists the opportunity for open-ended investigations focused on bringing the arts and sciences together to cultivate a creative environment, knowing from past experience that the residences will most likely culminate in unexpected and unpredictable outcomes. Project-based residencies compliment our large-scale exhibitions or specific initiatives. Please check back periodically for new opportunities as we occasionally seek artists to become involved with particular projects.
We are currently seeking applications on a rolling basis for our residency program. At this time, artist opportunities are not directly tied to current or future exhibits and range in length from two weeks to one year for Bay Area residents and two weeks to one month for non-Bay Area residents.

Video Painting Competition, Open Gallery, London

The Open gallery has launched ‘the video painting competition’ to find a new video artist to join the Artscape Project in an ongoing commission for video paintings. The competition is open to all artists who have graduated from a college or university in the UK within the past two years (since 2007).
From the initial applicants, 10 artists will be shortlisted and the work of these artists will be exhibited in a prominent exhibition at a high profile London Exhibition Venue during October 2009.
A panel of judges, including Artscape Founder and Curator Hilary Lawson, will select the overall winner. The chosen artist will be rewarded with a place on the Artscape Project, in an ongoing paid commission for video paintings, represented by Open gallery. They will also receive a prize of £500 to help launch the production of their video projects.
Background
The origins of the Artscape Project can be found in 2001 when the first video paintings were shot by Hilary Lawson, a philosopher and documentary film maker, in an attempt to escape the limitations of the traditional video narrative. Subsequently, a collective of artists, including William Raban, Sanchita Islam, Nina Danino, Tina Keane, and Isabelle Inghilieri, was formed to develop the video painting medium.
The Open Gallery exhibits internationally and Artscape Project Collections have been presented in major London venues including The Hayward Gallery, The ICA and SKETCH.
Video paintings are filmed in a single take with a stationary camera. They contain no edits or subsequent manipulation. Video paintings show the world in real time. The video painting is non-narrative. There is no dialogue, no sound. In contrast to the film and video tradition which has been dominated by the provision of meaning and understanding, the video painting aims to escape our cultural and perceptual closures, freeing the viewer to play in the openness of the image.
All submissions must include:
A DVD with up to three 16:9 video paintings on it. These must have been shot specifically for the ‘Video Painting Competition’ following the Artscape Brief (refer to background, brief and the Open Gallery website). The DVD must be a maximum length of 20 minutes.
A Curriculum Vitae (1 A4 page only).
An Artist Statement outlining current artistic practise and interest in the video painting medium (maximum of 200 words)
Printed video still(s) of video paintings on DVD (1 A4 page).

APPEX 2010 is a three-week intensive residency in Bali, Indonesia. For five days a week, artists will engage in master classes, studio workshops, experimentation, collaborative projects and public performances. A total of 16 artists will participate in the APPEX 2010 program. An equal number of American and Asian participants will take part in the program. STRUCTURE, PROCESS AND PERCEPTION OF A RIVER
Selection of 12 art projects to be developed during several 2-week residency modules to take place between February and October 2010.
Art disciplines: Phonography; sound installation; vocal performance; sound poetry; acoustic, electroacoustic or electronic improvisation / composition.
The Nodar Artist Residency Program for 2010 will have a single aggregating subject: the Paiva River. Throughout the year, from winter to autumn, several multidisciplinary art projects (having sound as a central element) will be developed in a context-specific perspective, interacting with the river’s different geographical areas, from its spring to its mouth. A tribute to a small river that is a symbol of a region that (still) can live in a well-balanced interaction with nature. Following the relationship that exists between the village of Nodar and the Paiva River, which already motivated the development of several art works, it was now decided to spread this interaction to the whole course of the river, giving a sense of coherence and plurality to the reflection, tracing continuity and rupture lines, patterns, densities and transitional zones, either related with geographical and human elements.
In the beginning of 2011 the several art works will be presented to local audiences, in the context of an event that will include conferences, concerts, video screenings and a retrospective exhibition of the whole project. This exhibition will later follow an itinerancy through several towns along the course of the Paiva River and will have an underlying program of educational activities intended for children and youths.
