Programmation Pubs d’art

Dans le cadre de la programmation Pubs d’art de l’événement Espace [im] média, Camestrie et la Galerie Horace invitent les artistes de tous les horizons et de toutes les disciplines à soumettre une proposition de vidéo promotionnelle de leur art, un « remix » de leurs vidéos existantes ou encore un court documentaire sur eux-mêmes.
Cet appel est une réponse à une programmation de plus de 50 artistes européens qui ont produit un spot publicitaire afin de promouvoir leur personne et/ou leur travail. Il en résulte des vidéos aux approches différentes, parmi lesquelles certaines ont résolument transcendé leur statut de publicité. Certains artistes proposent une courte introduction à leur univers, tandis que d’autres livrent de véritables œuvres vidéos miniatures. Ces pubs d’artistes européens seront également présentées au cours de cette soirée.
En jouant avec ce format si typique de nos postes de télévision, les propositions ne se contentent pas de présenter les artistes, mais soulèvent aussi le rapport étroit entretenu entre art et publicité, entre le mythe de l’Artiste et la démesure de la société de communication.
Les propositions retenues devront aussi être accompagnées d’un document (catalogues, affiches, brochures, DVD’s) consultable sur place lors de l’événement qui aura lieu à Sherbrooke, le samedi 3 octobre 2009. Veuillez noter que les oeuvres et les documents soumis ne seront pas retournés aux artistes et qu’aucun cachet ne sera versé pour les publicités sélectionnées.
Faire parvenir vos pubs de 30 SECONDES EXACTEMENT sur CD, en fichier QuickTime ou AVI au format DV NTSC 720 x 480 pixels, 48 Khz stéréo. Les vidéos plus courtes ou plus longues que trente secondes seront automatiquement retirées du processus de sélection.

Programmation Mon espace / Your space
Être de passage à Praxis art actuel pour l’un des blocs de la programmation Mon espace / Your space implique une découverte du lieu dans lequel vous vous retrouverez. Praxis souhaite amener les artistes professionnels du milieu de l’art au-delà du processus habituel de création/production/diffusion. Dans le cadre de sa programmation 2010-2011, le Centre vous invite à déposer des projets pour y questionner ou redéfinir des problématiques liées à votre démarche artistique ou approfondir certaines facettes de votre pratique. Praxis offre un espace de réflexion, des circuits d‘échange, et des collaborations avec les communautés et ses territoires afin de soutenir votre processus de création.
Sous le thème Mon espace / Your space, les artistes doivent proposer un projet qui s’inspire des particularités et des caractéristiques géographiques, sociales, économiques ou culturelles propres à la Ville de Sainte-Thérèse ou à sa région. Les artistes seront jumelés à des membres-accompagnateurs nommés par le Centre et l’agente de développement de la Ville de Sainte-Thérèse sera mise à leur disposition. Praxis considère ces paramètres comme des éléments devant stimuler la création tout en tenant compte des spécificités de la démarche artistique de chacun. Les artistes sélectionnés réaliseront une série d’explorations et d’expérimentations afin de développer et d’enrichir leur projet initialement proposé. Le rapprochement avec les communautés étant primordial pour Praxis, les artistes doivent également travailler de concert avec les citoyens et les intégrer dans leur processus de création. Le public pourra donc être témoin de l’évolution de chaque projet tout au long du bloc, en particulier lors des séjours des artistes en expérimentation et à travers les traces de leur projet en cours laissées dans le laboratoire-atelier.
Un bloc de programmation réunit trois artistes. Toujours en collaboration avec le Centre, ces derniers doivent réalisés leur projet sur une période de trois mois : bloc d’automne (mi-septembre à mi-décembre 2010) ou le bloc du printemps (début avril à fin juin 2011). Pendant ces périodes, les trois artistes seront amenés à se croiser, à échanger et à partager leurs idées. Ils participeront également aux rencontres de travail pilotées par Praxis dans le but de susciter les discussions et faire progresser les projets en cours. L’une des propositions explorées devra être finalisée et présentée hors nos murs, dans le cadre d’un événement spécial réunissant le travail des trois artistes. Organisé à la fin du bloc, l’événement sera conçu en collaboration soit avec des groupes de citoyens, avec des commerçants ou avec des organismes de nos territoires.
En adéquation avec la vision revisitée de la résidence-laboratoire, le Centre tente de s’éloigner du cadre habituel de présentation en salle pour valoriser davantage le développement de nouveaux projets, l’avancement des pratiques artistiques et le rapprochement des publics.
Votre dossier doit comprendre :
– un curriculum vitae (3 pages maximum)
– un court texte expliquant votre démarche artistique (250 mots maximum)
– un texte décrivant votre intention de recherche et vos motivations (250 mots maximum)
– une documentation visuelle de votre travail avec description :
– 15 images numériques maximum, clairement identifiées
– 1 bande audio/vidéo VHS ou DVD format NTSC (3 minutes maximum)
– un dossier de presse (facultatif)
– une enveloppe de retour préaffranchie pour le renvoi des documents. Prenez note que les dossiers sans enveloppe de retour préaffranchie seront détruits au mois d’août de l’année suivante.
Le centre n’accepte pas les dossiers envoyés par courriel.
Économisez le papier. Tout votre dossier doit être remis sur CD-ROM, DVD ou clé USB dans les formats suivants :
– Textes format “.PDF”, “.DOC” ou “.RTF”;
– Images format “.JPG” seulement;
– présenter des fichiers compatibles avec PC seulement;
– soumettre des images d’une résolution de 72ppp n’excédant pas 1.0 Mo;
– Dossier de presse et documentation d’appui numérisé (“.JPG” ou “.PDF”).
Assurez-vous que vos supports informatiques soient lisibles dans l’environnement Windows et qu’ils ne requièrent aucun téléchargement.
Nous n’acceptons pas :
– des présentations sous forme PowerPoint;
– des fichiers compressés (au moyen de WinZip ou de Stuffit, par exemple);
– des hyperliens menant à des sites Web.
Barèmes des droits, redevances et services offerts aux artistes
Praxis art actuel défraie à l’artiste :
– Un droit d’exposition de 1 200 $
– Un per diem de 15 $ par jour, 10 jours maximum (150 $)
– Frais de production 200 $
– Frais de déplacement et de transport (maximum de 350 $) payable à la réception des factures
Total des droits et des dépenses : 1 850 $
Praxis assume les frais de :
– Hébergement de 10 jours maximum (pas nécessairement consécutifs), petit déjeuner et souper inclus (d’une valeur pouvant atteindre 300 $) payable au membre-hébergeur
– Soutien par un membre-accompagnateur (un maximum de 30 heures par artiste, pouvant atteindre des frais payés de 420 $)
– Rédaction d’un texte sur l’expérience vécue et le travail effectué (150 $)
– Production d’une publication à discuter en groupe et avec le Centre (450 $)
Total maximal des dépenses défrayées : 1 320 $
Praxis offre les services suivants :
– Obtention des permis et des autorisations
– Recherche de commandites spécifiques (au besoin)
– Coordination des projets et des réunions de travail
Coût total maximum défrayé par Praxis pour chacun des artistes : 3 220 $

Projet d’exposition / Atelier Circulaire

Dans le cadre de sa programmation 2010-2011, l’Atelier Circulaire invite les artistes et commissaires à soumettre leur dossier pour un projet d’exposition. Le contenu de l’exposition doit comprendre des éléments en art imprimé.
Fondé en 1982, l’Atelier Circulaire se consacre à la production et à la di usion de l’estampe. Aujourd’hui, l’Atelier Circulaire représente l’un des centres d’estampe les plus actifs au Canada et compte près de 100 artistes membres. Orienté vers la recherche et la création en arts imprimés, l’Atelier Circulaire est équipé pour la taille-douce, la lithographie, l’impression en relief et l’impression numérique. Depuis janvier 2008, la galerie occupe un espace au rez-de-chaussée permettant une plus grande visibilité et accessibilité au public.
Les candidats intéressés doivent soumettre un dossier comprenant :
• une description du projet (maximum 1 page);
• 10 à 15 images JPEG accompagnées d’une liste descriptive [ fi chiers compatibles MAC, RVB d’environ 1024 x 768 dpi ];

Programmation 2010-2011 / L’Œil de Poisson

L’Œil de Poisson invite les artistes et commissaires à soumettre leur projet pour la programmation 2010-2011 au plus tard le 15 octobre 2009 – le sceau de la poste faisant foi.
Le centre reçoit également en tout temps des dossiers pour l’Entrée vidéo et tout autre projet de soirées multidisciplinaires, de commissariat et de création en atelier. Tous les artistes sélectionnés ont accès gratuitement à nos ateliers de production pour une période d’un mois précédant leur exposition.

Artistes et commissaires de la relève / Caravansérail
Bien implanté dans sa région et sur la scène nationale, Caravansérail assiste la relève artistique depuis plus de 5 ans dans la production, la promotion et la diffusion des arts visuels au Québec. L’intérêt que nous manifestons envers les artistes professionnels de la relève nous rend sensible à l’émergence d’oeuvres novatrices, à des stratégies de diffusion inédites et à la résurgence de réflexions en adéquation avec notre époque.

Appel aux commissaires
4e Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf
Les organisateurs de la Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf lancent un appel de candidatures aux commissaires pour son quatrième événement qui aura lieu de juin à septembre 2011. Ils confieront trois mandats de commissariat pour des expositions collectives, respectivement en arts visuels, en métiers d’art ainsi qu’en mode et design.
Depuis ses débuts, la Biennale du lin impose à ses organisateurs des défis qui sont à la fois stimulants et sérieux. C’est ainsi que ceux-ci choisissent d’avancer sur la mince ligne qui sépare l’art visuel contemporain des métiers d’art de création et du design. Ils demeurent convaincus qu’il est heureux de faire état de la « zone de frottement » entre les disciplines, une approche qui contribue à la spécificité de la Biennale du lin d’une part, et au développement de chacune des disciplines d’autre part. Rappelons que le lin, parce qu’il est à la fois sujet et matière, permet de mettre en lumière, côte à côte et simultanément, des modes d’expression qui cohabitent et se confondent parfois. Le projet d’intégrer l’art contemporain à des édifices et à des sites patrimoniaux est aussi audacieux, mais combien pertinent. Bien que ces lieux soient fortement chargés, tant historiquement que visuellement, et en dépit des contraintes que leur nature impose, les créateurs y trouvent des défis qui provoquent leur imaginaire et nourrissent leur recherche.
Le développement des publics posant d’importants défis, particulièrement en région rurale, les organisateurs de la Biennale du lin accordent beaucoup d’importance à la vulgarisation des textes d’accompagnement, à la sensibilisation des visiteurs ainsi qu’aux éléments de la programmation qui permettent aux citoyens d’avoir un accès privilégié aux artistes et la démarche créatrice. Bien qu’il n’y ait pas de thématique générale prédéterminée pour l’événement de 2011, un intérêt particulier sera porté à l’Irlande du Nord, à ses traditions linières et à ses créateurs en raison des résultats positifs obtenus lors d’une récente mission de prospection.

• Les candidatures seront analysées par le comité de direction artistique de la Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf. Les dossiers incomplets ne seront pas étudiés par le comité;
• Le comité de direction artistique favorise les propositions de projets qui mettent la démarche créatrice originale au premier plan tout en démontrant des liens pertinents avec le lin et les fonctions patrimoniales, symboliques et poétiques qu’on lui attache et qui permettent de positionner l’événement dans le circuit estival des grands événements artistiques;
• Le comité portera une attention particulière à la qualité des textes écrits.

La Bande Vidéo invite les jeunes artistes et les réalisateurs(trices) professionnel(le)s canadiens à soumettre leurs œuvres pour la 19ième édition du festival Vidéaste Recherché•e.
Après une 18ième édition lors de laquelle les gagnants se sont partagés 30 000 $ en prix, La Bande Vidéo invite de nouveau les jeunes réalisateurs et les réalisateur(trice)s professionnel(le)s* canadiens à soumettre leurs œuvres vidéo pour la 19ième édition du Festival Vidéaste Recherché•e.
Cette année, Vidéaste Recherché•e est particulièrement fier d’ouvrir pour une première fois, un volet professionnel* à son concours annuel. Cette nouvelle programmation d’œuvres professionnelles en compétition complètera la programmation traditionnelle de premières oeuvres. *Par réalisateur(trice) professionnel(le) nous entendons un réalisateur(trice) qui diffuse ou réalise publiquement des oeuvres dans des lieux et/ou contextes reconnus par les pairs. Un curriculum vitæ artistique devra être joint au formulaire d’inscription.
L’objectif premier de l’événement est de stimuler la création d’œuvres originales et d’établir un pont entre les professionnels du milieu et les jeunes créateurs, ainsi qu’entre les régions et les grands centres de production. Vidéaste Recherché•e agit comme promoteur en création vidéo et cinéma et crée un tremplin incontournable dans ces secteurs.
Il n’y a aucune restriction de genre appliquée aux œuvres soumises. Celles-ci doivent être en français ou sous-titrées en français. Pour le volet relève comme pour le volet professionnel, la durée des monobandes ne doit pas excéder 20 minutes, générique inclus. Les productions soumises doivent avoir été réalisées dans les 18 mois précédant la date de dépôt. Tous les formats de tournage sont acceptés, toutefois, la copie présentée avec le formulaire d’inscription doit obligatoirement être de format VHS ou DVD

Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography is a non-profit artist-run centre committed to the advancement of photographic art. We encourage the submission of exhibition proposals from emerging, mid-career and established artists who are innovative in their use of materials and approach to subject matter.
Gallery 44 views photography within the larger context of contemporary artistic practices and relevant cultural issues in Canadian society. Please submit:
1. A maximum of twenty slides or digital images (CD must be MAC compatible) representing a recent body of work or a specific project. Digital images should be RGB, jpeg format no larger than 1024 x 768 pixels at 300 dpi. They should be numbered 01 to 20 (01_tree, 02_house, 03_car etc.) Slides must be numbered and marked with the artist’s name and a red dot in the lower left corner. Gallery 44 does not accept original artwork. We do not accept images by email.
2. An image list indicating title, year, medium and dimensions.
3. An artist’s statement, curatorial statement, or other written description.
4. A physical description of the proposed exhibition, including the number of works, the space required and any unusual installation requirements.
5. Curricula vitae, resumes or biographies of the artist(s) and curator, if applicable.
6. A self-addressed envelope (SASE) with sufficient return postage. Without an SASE we will not return submission packages and will dispose of submission materials appropriately.

Cities can be divided into two realms, private and public. They encompass the spaces in which we live, work and play; but what are the demarcation lines between them? Plazas, sidewalks, parks and the areas not encompassed by private and corporate usage are what we want you to contemplate. What are your ideas on the public realm? What do we have now and what would you want for the future?
People are quitting the saturated suburbs and moving back to the city. This has necessitated a rethinking of myriad areas of urban life, from buildings and open spaces to street furniture. How would you animate the public realm? How would you exploit and use the public realm?
Artists are engaging cities around the world, from Christo’s wrapped buildings to Paris’ temporary summer beaches along the Seine to our own Nuit Blanche and Luminato festivals. London’s Trafalgar Square has been transformed by a series of twenty-four hour art works. Tweet parties use networking to create engaging public events from bike rallies to political statements. What would you do?
Here is your opportunity to re-examine what we have always accepted, to re-imagine and break the rules that deserve to be broken. What are your ideas as a guerrilla urbanist? How would you bring spaces to life and make them usable by all, not just consumers? What would you do to make spaces that have power, that can transform a people in the way Tiananmen Square did in Beijing?
This is an open call for your art work that responds to the Public Realm. Any medium will be considered for this curated show, which will take place in January 2010. We look forward to seeing your painting, drawing, photography, video, sculpture, maquettes, plans, performance…or however you see your concept.

* Christopher Hume is the architecture critic and urban issues columnist of the Toronto Star. Hume was also the art critic for many years. He has been nominated for four National Newspaper Awards . He won a Toronto Heritage Award in 2000 and in 2004 he received a Landscape Ontario award. Hume appears frequently on radio and television as a commentator on city issues. Hume was named Toronto’s best newspaper columnist by NOW magazine in 2005 and Eye magazine in 2006.

Trinity Square Video (TSV) has a long history of supporting and presenting video-based works that are mediated by images of protest and activism, providing a space to explore the range of meaning that can be generated from such imagery. Our upcoming programming will build from this history. In the fall of 2009, TSV will begin an extended investigation of the current state of political engagement in contemporary art by exhibiting works that question the motivations, objectivity and ethics found in and around political representations.
TSV is eager to hear from artists and curators working with video and video installation who are rigorously invested in enriching and expanding the field of socially critical visual and media-based art.
We are looking for dynamic video and video-based artworks that are engaged with varying forms of contemporary politics in unexpected or unconventional ways.
We are seeking innovative artist’s works that use video, its forms and its processes, to examine the modes of presentation found in activist gesture, social action or cultural critique.
We intend to offer a wide range of video programs and installations: from those that feature direct activist gestures to those that call into question the relationship between aesthetic value and the promotion of social causes.
TSV is an artist-run resource for the production, education and dissemination of video by artists and community organizations. Since 1971, TSV has made access to the means of communication its priority, providing a diverse community of video practitioners media-arts related development through workshops, seminars and classes, as well as offering a space for the creation and exhibition of video-based images.
Through its public programming, TSV has advanced the understanding and appreciation of media works produced by various community-based groups and numerous internationally recognized artists, such as Michael Balser, John Greyson, Vera Frenkel, Richard Fung, Nancy Nicol, and Lisa Steele and Kim Tomczak. In recent years, TSV has presented works by Sara Angelucci, Jeremy Blake, Deanna Bowen, Manon De Pauw, Isabelle Hayeur and Éric Raymond, Nelson Henricks, Gunilla Josephson, Jude Norris, 640 480 Collective, among many others.

Filmmaker Assistance Program: NFB The National Film Board’s mandate as a public producer and distributor is to make films and videos that are culturally and socially relevant to the Canadian public. The Filmmakers Assistance Program (FAP) offers developing independent emerging filmmakers, working in both film and video, an opportunity to receive financial support for their productions. FAP is designed to provide financial assistance for: production equipment; processing; film-video transfers; editing suite rental; mixes; printing; titles; and other post- production services. Trinity Square Video Themed Commission Program
Anti-Hero
Call for Submissions

TSV continues our trilogy of Themed Commissions: Icon, Villain and Anti-Hero, inspired by classic film archetypes. We are now seeking proposals for the final program in the trilogy, Anti-Hero, which will premiere in early 2010.
Anti-Hero explores the complex characterizations of contemporary narratives: it is a program that deals with shifting lines between the good and the bad. Growing out of traditional literary tropes and classic film-noire archetypes, the contemporary Anti-Hero is an illusive figure, often one that we, in a postmodern world, most closely gravitate to. The Anti-Hero respects our sense of reality in a world that has not delivered on the orderly promises of modernism. Although a fictional type, these disillusioned outsiders operate as figures caught between real structures: sometimes a character is defined by the limits of physical borders or partitions, sometimes the formal structures of narrative shape a character’s difference. Each time a story is read or watched the Anti-Hero is held up against the limits of an audience and it is that limit that uneasily defines both sides.
TSV is looking for proposals for 5 to 7 minute videos that engage with these flawed characters. We are looking for works that acknowledge the Anti-Heroes that we know – the Holden Caulfields, the Travis Bickles, the Thelmas and the Louises – as well as lesser-known folk that represent the spirit of the Anti-Hero – the family ne’er-do-well, the neighbour who has never married, or those who simply live a little differently. TSV is looking for videos that intensively explore the avant-garde or counter-culture impulses that characterize the Anti-Hero.
A catalogue for the Icon, Villain and Anti-Hero trilogy will be published following the completion of all videos and will be launched during the February 2010 premiere of Anti-Hero. All of the artists who have participated in the trilogy will be included in the catalogue.
Selected artists receive:

MONITOR 5: New South Asian Film and Video
DEADLINE: November 16, 2009
SAVAC (South Asian Visual Arts Centre) invites submissions for its sixth annual experimental short film and video screening program, MONITOR 6.
MONITOR 6 is dedicated to the presentation of experimental short films and videos by and/or about South Asians from Canada and around the world. We invite independent and innovative short films and videos that explore the aesthetic and form of the moving image and its relation to narrative. MONITOR 6 encourages new experimental work that takes risks and beckons the viewer’s active engagement.
Selected works will be screened at the sixth annual short film and video program, MONITOR 6 in Toronto, Canada in March 2010. Monitor 6 will be curated by Toronto-based video artist and cultural critic Richard Fung.
Works must be under 20 minutes and produced between 2007 – 2009. Submissions from first time directors are welcome. Artists’ fees will be paid.

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
PROFESSIONAL ARTIST SERIES 2010
Art City invites artists to submit proposals to conduct workshops at its community art
studio located in Winnipeg’s West Broadway neighbourhood. The proposals will be
considered for the Art City Professional Artist Series in 2010.
Founded by Winnipeg artist Wanda Koop, Art City is a free-of-charge, all-ages,
community art studio for inner-city residents. The Professional Artist Series ensures Art
City programming is high quality and continually evolving. Selected guest artists are
supported in their workshops by experienced Art City staff and volunteers.
Workshop proposals should be suited to a drop-in atmosphere and geared towards
children and youth ranging from 6 to 15 years of age, though still be of interest to older
teens and adults. The standard format for workshops by professional artists is based on
a 5-day period, Monday to Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Artists will receive $1,400.00
for the one-week workshop. Travel and accommodation for selected visiting artists are
provided by Art City.
All submissions must include the following:
• Applicant’s name, address, e-mail and phone number.
• Title and description of the workshop.
• A 5-day workshop timeline describing in detail each daily 4-hour session.
• A supply list.
• A brief biography summarizing professional achievements. (1 paragraph)
• CV including professional activity and past community engagement. (3 pgs max)
• Visual support in digital format. (up to ten images and/or five minutes video)
Include corresponding list of works with title, date, medium, and dimensions.
Catalogues and/or reviews of work are also welcome.
Selection criteria for Professional Artist Series proposals:
• Demonstrated professional art practice
• Knowledge of inner city issues.
• Knowledge of art and community, and their relationship.
• Experience working with youth.
• Creativity of workshop.
• Applicability and thoroughness of five-day workshop outline.
• Content appropriateness for a youth audience.
• Art media appropriate to Art City and youth audience (cost, toxicity, ability to
instruct, avoiding excess duplication of particular media in calendar year).
• Interest in involving new and diverse artists with the Art City community.

NETMAGE FESTIVAL The call for participation is now open for the International Live-Media Floor of Netmage 10 a festival aimed to explore media innovation within the context of electronic arts that will take place in Bologna from the 28th to the 30th January 2010. The Live-Media Floor is the main section of the Netmage festival program, an international platform to confront practices of generating and/or mixing images and sound of every type and format. A window on cinematic and inter-media aesthetics that change form year by year. Participation is open to projects that employ electronic, electroacoustic, analogue and cinematic means to produce visuals and sound. The projects selected will be performed in a single event space, single or multi-screen, for a duration of about 20 minutes each. Since the Internet became popular in the late 90’ies of 20th century, the software program “FLASH”, once developed and prepared for the commercial market by Macromedia, and now owned by Adobe, represents a vector based developing
environment which enables the creator to combine different media and develop vector based animations especially for the Internet. .swf data file extension became a standard for animations online and offline, and Flash video and its .flv file format stands for “videostreaming” on the net.
As soon as the Internet started, artists captured it for artistic purposes, and the same is good for certain software used for the net, particularly Flash is
predestined for developing artistic creations due to its intuitive use. It became one of the most popular software tools for the net, computer based animations and interactive applications like games. Flash based artworks entered media festivals, even festivals solely based on movies created in Flash are organised.
After Cinematheque – streaming media environments – explored in 2007 the
capabilities of “Quicktime” as an artistic medium in the comprehensive show

“In extraordinary times, an extreme reaction is necessary”
Performance in Crisis are performative responses to the many crises in the global society from a particular view of the artists’ aesthetic. Often it is a presentation of an extreme action. These “performances with a purpose” are a radical and profound look at the art of performance/actions. Exit Art is doing this project to make space for the urgent matters of our culture in crisis.
The upcoming solo retrospective exhibition by Guatemalan performance artist Regina José Galindo (October 2 – November 21, 2009) will be the inauguration of the Performance in Crisis program, a series of site-specific, performative responses to the current global political and economic environment. These performances will happen over three months, using Galindo’s performance work as a point of departure. Each artist will have one evening to perform their work. This will be documented with photography and video which will become part of the show in the gallery and on the web over the three months, creating a shifting installation each week. What begins as a solo exhibition will become a collective expression of performance in crisis; the Galindo presentation will merge with the works in Performance in Crisis and continue to evolve in the space until the program ends on December 19.
These performances/actions will examine our cultural condition and respond urgently to the monumental challenges we currently face, from health care reform to immigration laws, to the horror of war and the manipulation of banks, from the poisoning of the environment to the corruption in our government. Performance in Crisis confronts these issues, exposing them and encouraging further response.
Artists are asked to submit a one-page description of a proposed performance for this series with any relevant sketches and equipment / prop needs and a CV to Assistant Curator Lauren Rosati at lauren [arobas] exitart [point] org. Selected performances will be performed on Friday/Saturday evenings during the course of Performance in Crisis. Submissions should be received by September 15; late submissions will be considered for inclusion in December. This is an exhibition whose presentation is in process, and will evolve as the show progresses.
Already scheduled performers include: Rob Andrews, Regina José Galindo, Saeri Kiritani, Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow, David Perez, Boryana Rossa and Oleg Mavromatti, and Rafael Sanchez.

Presenting a new forum for the distribution and presentation of digital movies, Exit Art is seeking submissions of “digimovies” (digitally-produced movies in video format) in any genre – such as feature-length movies, shorts, documentaries, fiction, non-fiction, animated, etc. – for screening in Exit Underground, a new multi-media event space below Exit Art’s main gallery. Exit Art recognizes the need for a forum to screen independently-produced digital movies. Planned to officially launch in Spring 2010, Exit Underground’s digital theater will contain a 5000 lumens HD projector as well as state-of-the-art audio and cinema equipment. As an ongoing site for bi-weekly screenings, directors’ discussions and premieres, we intend to create a new destination for digital cinema in Manhattan and to provide a public venue for digital moviemakers to screen their works and interact with their audiences. Digimovies are movies produced in digital format. To apply, please submit: 1. One full-length copy of the video on an NTSC DVD 2. One 3-5 minute ‘trailer’ for the video, or a 3-5 minute excerpt on an NTSC DVD* 3. A one-page document describing the submitted video and listing past work and past screenings. The heading of this document should also contain your name, address, email address, title of the video, and the ‘type’ of work submitted (i.e., “SHORT”, “DOCUMENTARY”, etc.) *The full video and trailer may be on the same DVD, as long as the DVD is properly menued. You may submit up to 5 (five) videos at once. Please include a SASE if your work is not selected and you would like your DVD(s) returned. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis; we will notify you when we view your work and make a selection decision. Selected works will be included in Exit Underground’s cinema library, a permanent archive of “digimovies” accessible for viewing to the public by appointment only. All digital video screenings, festivals and other events will be culled from this library. Stichting Duende Aktiviteiten offers three guest studios for artists from The Netherlands and abroad. Two of these studios are programmed and managed by a commission formed by Duende volunteer members. Studios (60 – 90 m2, 4,5 meters high) and accommodation (30 – 50 m2 adjacent rooms to the studios) are available to artists from all over the world for a period of three months.
Guest artists are offered the possibility to present their work in public. This usually takes place during the open studio days at the end of the residency. Some other ways of public presentations can be discussed according to the guest’s interests.

International Open Call for Art Projects, Nodar Artist Residency Program, Portugal
Residency – Binauralmedia and Nodar Artist Residency Center

Selection of 12 art projects to be developed during several 2-week residency modules to take place between February and October 2010.
Art disciplines: Phonography; sound installation; vocal performance; sound poetry; acoustic, electroacoustic or electronic improvisation / composition.
The Nodar Artist Residency Program for 2010 will have a single aggregating subject: the Paiva River. Throughout the year, from winter to autumn, several multidisciplinary art projects (having sound as a central element) will be developed in a context-specific perspective, interacting with the river’s different geographical areas, from its spring to its mouth.

SoundCurious #1 will present a weekend of engaging performances and activities focussing on the relationship between sound and moving image.
Film makers, animators, sound-smiths and AV artists are invited to submit either a short silent film, which can be soundtrack by live musicians, or propose a radical AV installation or experiment.
