APPEL DE DOSSIERS – SKOOL

SKOOL est un stage rénuméré d’une durée de 10 semaines, pour une équipe de deux ou trois artistes et/ou travailleurs culturels de la relève.

En transformant le Centre en lieu d’apprentissage, le programme SKOOL met les ressources du Centre à la disposition d’une équipe qui pourra expérimenter différentes formes d’organisation pour soutenir la recherche artistique dans un cadre professionnel, et ce, avec l’appui d’un mentor recommandé par le Centre.

Date de tombée: 15 janvier 2013, le cachet de la poste faisant foi.
Date du stage: du 4 juin au 13 août 2013.
Admissibilité: étudiants et récents diplômés universitaires ayant moins de 3 ans de pratique professionnelle. SVP mentionnez votre niveau d’étude et si oui ou non vous comptez poursuivre vos études en septembre 2013.

Le projet du stage peut prendre plusieurs formes, par exemple :
•    publication
•    projet de commissaire
•    atelier
•    recherche dans les archives
•    recherche en histoire de l’art et/ou art actuel
•    intervention dans l’espace public
•    conférence
•    un amalgame de ces exemples

Tous les dossiers pour SKOOL doivent comprendre :

VERTICALE – CENTRE D’ARTISTES lance un appel aux artistes afin de mettre en place la programmation de l’année 2013-2014.

Verticale, supporte et encourage les propositions d’artistes professionnels et de commissaires indépendants en art actuel, qu’ils soient émergents ou établis. Favorisant l’inter, la multi et la transdisciplinarité, le centre appuie tous les modes de réalisation comme de diffusion, susceptibles de produire des contenus et des discours artistiques signifiants et inédits.

Verticale travaille présentement les pratiques HORS LES MURS. Nous acceptons les propositions artistiques à l’esthétique foudroyant, celles qui témoignent d’engagement social et communautaire, ainsi que les pratiques émergentes et expérimentales. Les projets présentant une sensibilité aux spécificités du contexte et du territoire lavallois seront privilégiés.

Praxis Art Actuel lance son appel de dossiers pour la programmation du Bloc 8. Ce Bloc se tiendra du printemps à l’automne 2014.

Nous invitons les artistes professionnels à proposer des projets innovants qui s’éloignent du cadre habituel d’exposition, s’infiltrent dans l’espace public et s’inspirent des caractéristiques du lieu dans lequel ils se retrouvent afin de le questionner, de l’interpréter, de le modeler et de le transformer.

Les projets peuvent toucher à la fois à des particularités et des caractéristiques géographiques, sociales, économiques ou culturelles de la Ville de Sainte-Thérèse ou de la région des Laurentides.

Les artistes sont ainsi invités à redéfinir des problématiques liées à leur démarche artistique ou approfondir certaines facettes de leur pratique.

Praxis Art Actuel s’intéresse aux processus de création axés sur le travail in situ ou in socius, en lien avec des groupes (individus, étudiants, travailleurs, commerçants…), des organismes, des espaces, des lieux ou des territoires considérés dans leur spécificité.

Depuis plus de 25 ans, le centre d’artistes Espace Virtuel fait la promotion du travail des artistes en arts visuels, soutient leurs recherches, agit comme médiateur culturel, stimule l’échange et la réflexion critique autour de l’œuvre et de son créateur, participe à la synergie de son milieu en collaborant avec les organisations possédant des objectifs communs.

Point de suspension, la librairie spécialisée du centre, soutient la rédaction et la diffusion de textes d’auteurs et organise des conférences ainsi que des soirées de discussion sur l’art, son marché, ses institutions et sa critique. Pour chaque exposition présentée dans la galerie, la librairie Point de suspension ajoute à ses rayons une sélection de livres liée au contenu du travail présenté.

Espace Virtuel participe à la diversité des pratiques artistiques diffusées en travaillant sans cloisonnement disciplinaire et en soutenant tous les types de productions en arts visuels. Le centre diffuse le travail des artistes de la relève, émergents et établis. Notre direction artistique met l’emphase sur la réactualisation des langages artistiques, la sensibilité du discours de l’artiste et les approches novatrices. Espace Virtuel assure une diffusion représentative des pratiques actuelles.

Appel de dossier :
En vue de la saison 2013-2014, Espace Virtuel invite les artistes professionnels à soumettre leur dossier à son comité de programmation. Il est à noter que le centre envisage une programmation 2013-2014 tournée en partie vers des expositions collectives. Ainsi, les dossiers soumis ne doivent pas nécessairement proposer un projet  nouveau ou en cours de réalisation, puisque l’ensemble du dossier visuel sera considéré et qu’une œuvre antérieure pourrait se voir sélectionnée par notre comité de programmation.

NOUVEAU!
À partir de cette année, Espace Virtuel  recevra les dossiers d’artistes par courriel uniquement.

Les dossiers doivent contenir :

•    Un texte de démarche artistique
•    Le cas échéant, une description du projet proposé

The Prairie Outdoor Exhibition is a sprawling outdoor gallery in Birds Hill Provincial Park held during the Winnipeg Folk Festival July 10-14, 2013. The festival is looking for visual artists to exhibit work in this beautiful outdoor setting. Experience this unique outdoor gallery and create something that will inspire, engage, challenge and amuse our festival patrons. When submitting proposals please consider safety, ease of installation and removal, lasting impact on the natural environment, and the ability of the work to withstand sun, wind, rain, and curious patrons/children. Artists are responsible for installing and removing work.

La Bande Vidéo supports the production and presentation of media art to stimulate the circulation of information, ideas and video images.

Exhibition
La Bande Vidéo is inviting artists working in media arts to submit an exhibition proposal. La Bande Vidéo seeks practices evolving throughout an original video language interested of subverting the medium at its core. Experimental or stop-motion animation, 2D screenings or installative works, the center supports the exhibition of independent creations that seeks to renew presentation rules.

La Bande Video offers exhibition rights in accordance to the CARFAC recommendations. Our center also accommodates freely the artist for the preview night.

Production Residency and Exhibition Residency
La Bande Vidéo is inviting artists working in media arts (or artists seeking to experiment with videographic media) to submit proposals for production residencies. The artist-in-residence program is available to artists working in Canada and abroad. La Bande Vidéo supports work by artists who are interested in moving the discipline forward. The center hopes to receive research projects that explore permeability among different medias. The selection committee might also put an hold on some residency projects for a month-long exhibition in the center’s gallery.

Artists chosen for residencies will receive free access to the center’s production studios and equipment for a period spread of around two weeks to one month. La Bande Vidéo ensures technical support and accommodates the artist if required. A complete array of HD equipment is available: digital cameras, shooting material, accessories, production rooms (two editing suites, a sound studio and a trial studio for installations), and projection equipment.

Our center also accommodates freely the artist for the whole duration of his residency (or residency-exhibit) while giving to the artist a small amount for transportation for those who happen to live farther than 50 km of La Bande Vidéo. We will as well give to the artist a sustainment allowance for the whole time for a simple residency. Otherwise, in case of a residency leading to an exhibition the center would only give exhibition rights in accordance to the CARFAC recommendations. Note that, in any case (residency or residency-exhibit) the artist has an obligation to pay his production membership amount for one year (50$ CAD / taxes included).

Fort McMurray: Call to Artists, Public Artwork, (Fort McMurray, AB) Deadline December 17

TWO CALLS TO CANADIAN ARTISTS:
(1) TWO-DIMENSIONAL ARTWORK FOR FLOOR MEDALLION

(2) HOLD ROOM SUSPENDED SCULPTURE

The Fort McMurray Airport Authority is searching for Canadian artists for two public art opportunities that will be incorporated into the airport’s new terminal, which is scheduled to open in April, 2014.

(1)  Two Dimensional Artwork for Floor Medallion. An artist-deigned cut terrazzo and/or stone medallion will be incorporated into floor of the airport’s arrivals hall. The selected artist will develop a design and work with a fabricator identified by the airport to translate the design into terrazzo and/or stone.  The design fee (excluding fabrication and installation) for this project is $10,000.

(2) Hold Room Suspended Sculpture. An artist will be commissioned to create an artwork to be suspended from the ceiling of the north end of the airside hold room / gate area. The total budget (inclusive of design, fabrication and installation) for this project is $125,000.

The University of Alberta/Li Ka Shing Foundation Public Art Commission

The Li Ka Shing (Canada) Foundation and the University of Alberta have announced a $200,000 commission for a work of public art to be situated on the university’s campus in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

In 2010, the University of Alberta was the recipient of a generous gift of $28 million from the Li Ka Shing (Canada) Foundation. Along with funding from the Government of Alberta, the donation—the largest cash gift in the university’s history—led to the establishment of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology, housed within the Li Ka Shing Centre for Health Research Innovation.
The University of Alberta/Li Ka Shing Foundation Public Art Commission will result in the creation of a major work of public art to enhance the Li Ka Shing Centre for Health Research Innovation. The building, located at the corner of 87 Ave. and 112 St., is designed as a flexible space that supports current and future research and teaching needs.

Stage One of the $200,000 commission project is an international call to artists to submit a Request for Qualifications (RFQ). The deadline for RFQ submissions is December 17, 2012. Up to five finalists will be short-listed based on qualifications for Stage Two, the Request for Proposals. The commission will be managed by University of Alberta Museums, in accordance with the University of Alberta Museums and Collections Policy.

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Seeking video work for a curated project by Suzanne Carte & Su-Ying Lee (Under New Management) taking place in March 2013 at ODD Gallery at the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture (KIAC) in Dawson City, Yukon. The exhibition will take the form of a video rental store that carries artists’ videos. The project employs the characteristics of the retail environment to connect to the local community while, challenging the gallery’s role as an intermediary that delimits the viewer’s direct access to art. “Customers” are asked to pay what they wish, which can be interpreted as cash, a non-monetary exchange, critique, or no remuneration. This facet is in place as an experimental form of engagement, where artists have the opportunity to receive responses directly from viewers. In turn, the viewer has an uncommon channel to the artist. In addition to payment, rental and return are also on an honour-system basis therefore removing barriers that exist due to membership, deposit, and return policies at commercial ventures.

Background
This is the second iteration of the Under New Management video “rental” store. As part of a larger exhibition/project, the first store took place in Toronto from August 3-14, 2010. This method of disseminating video art to the general public was exceptionally popular during its short run.

Although the emergent field of digital writing is rife with references to performance, they remain relatively untheorized. Certain theorists such as N. Katherine Hayles have insisted on the inherent performativity of digital text: ‘Less an object than an event, the digital text emerges as a dance between artificial and human intelligences, machine and natural languages as these evolve together through time’. But in the main, analysis or investigation of performance is restricted to the relationship between the text output (on the interface or projected into a performance space) and the live body either responding performatively to that text, or else generating text through performance. There has been little attempt to enfold an understanding of digital text performance within the wider context of the ‘turn to performance’ that has taken place among the humanities in recent decades. It is against this background of performance studies, ordinary language philosophy and speech act theory, the ethnography of ritual, the performance of self and gender, and performance writing, that this issue of Performance Research will interrogate how writing performs in digital media.

While not excluding the investigation of live performance and its relation to digital writing and texts, the issue seeks to broaden the scope of the inquiry to include:

• interactivity between digital language and the body
• the performative gesture(s) of the hand and fingers (digital text) on the interface,
• the performativity of language itself on the screen,
• social performance or how digital texts ‘perform’ us,
• the performance of codes and scripting,
• machinic performance, i.e. what does the engineer mean by performance.

In other words, we will be looking at the different modes of performance as they are manifest across the whole digital environment (dispositif). In order to give a fuller account of this complex of performative modes, we will also be investigating how they interact and collaborate with each other.

This issue of Performance Research seeks to contribute to and develop research on the relationship between performance and digital writing/ text that has begun within the pan-European collaborative research project, ELMCIP (Electronic Literature as a Model of Innovation and Creativity in Practice 2010-13). It is also building on the long-standing interest that the journal has taken in writing in its several and varied relationships to performance.

If this is your area of interest, either as a practitioner or a theorist, please send a proposal (no more than one side of A4) for unpublished and critical articles (between 2,000 and 6,000 words), interviews, documents or artist’s pages which position, interrogate, theorise or practice digital writings in relation to performance.

KINO DER KUNST, a new and worldwide unique combination of film festival and art exhibition, will hold its first edition from April 24 to 28, 2013. Movie theatres and museums all over Munich will present an International Competition, retrospectives, special focuses, talks and multi-channel installations. KINO DER KUNST investigates the relationship between visual art and cinema, the programmatic focus being the current approach of filming artists to fiction and narration.

We invite visual artists from all over the world to submit their recent works to the International Competition. All entries must reveal an innovative approach to the various narrative forms of cinema on a high technical level. They must have been produced after January 1, 2011. An international jury featuring, among others, New York artist Cindy Sherman, artist and filmmaker Isaac Julien from London and Jean de Loisy, director of Palais de Tokyo in Paris, will award two main prizes totalling 20,000 USD.

Beers.Lambert Contemporary announces a new award for emerging artists worldwide: the First Annual Beers.Lambert Award for Emerging Art is a prize awarded to up to 8 emerging, contemporary artists working in all disciplines and open to artists internationally.

As one of its primary operating initiatives, Beers.Lambert’s artist-support program has always believed in nurturing emerging artists and celebrating excellence in emerging contemporary art. Now, our newest initiative coincides with our gallery relocation to its brand new space on Baldwin Street at Old Street in the heart of the East London. The Beers.Lambert Award for Emerging Artwas born and devised as a method to recognize outstanding achievement and/or promise in the arts and to present emerging artists with a unique exhibition opportunity in London, and offer international exposure to under-represented artists to help them succeed.

The award is fully intended to acknowledge and celebrate an outstanding group of artists in each of the primary artistic disciplines by offering (monetary and non-monetary) recognition for international emerging artists who can be seen as shaping the direction of contemporary art through commitment and dedication to their artistic practice. The purpose of the award is to recognize progression, innovation, excellence and ‘general talent’ in 4 predominating artistic fields: painting and drawing; photography and 2D; sculpture, installation and 3d; as well as a final multidisciplinary category that acknowledges video art, performance, new-media, and other formsthat may defy classification. By way of open call and juried selection, the award will be given to two artists working within each discipline – one primary and one secondary recipient will be awarded in each category to a total of 8 awarded artists – who not only meet, but excel within the given criteria. Beam Camp, the summer camp for the fine and manual arts, technology and collaboration, today opens its annual international search to find its 2013 Beam Projects. The large-scale collaborative projects are realized by Beam campers, aged 7-17, and staff at the camp’s 106-acre facility in Strafford, New Hampshire.

Projects are budgeted at $10,000. Winning designers receive a $2,500 honorarium and are invited to visit camp during the project’s production.

Beam offers these prompts for proposals:
– Project should be big and ambitious and result in a unique and spectacular product.
– Project Master should have experience in executing the kind of idea proposed.

Beam Camp Co-Director Danny Kahn says of the Project, “it’s a chance for kids to walk around inside the mind of a designer of big things and systems. The Beam Projects for summer 2012 reflected Beam’s core emphasis on cultivating creative thinking and applied collaborative work. In “Creature Quake,” Beam Project 2012.1, landscape architects Rachel Kunreuther and Douglas Stookey’s proposal, Beam campers and staff constructed enormous creatures in earth, sky and lake. In “Navigating Dreams,” Beam Project 2012.2, proposed by Matthew Springett Associates, Beam campers and staff created a night sky of LED constellations controlled and navigated by a boat-machine.

Previous winners include Caitlin Berrigan’s “Macro/Micro Domes,” Steve Gerberich and Nathaniel Lieb’s “Beam Fleet,” Jan Drojarski and Jon Bocksel’s “Jungletopia,” Christine Baumgartner and Manuel Kretzer’s “Float With The Flowers,” the solar-powered film “A Trip to the Sun” by Daniela Kostova and Mike DeSeve, WIgnall & Moore’s “The Stories of Machines That Never Flew” and “The Habitats of Parker Mountain” by pragmatopia and architecture students of the University of Kassel, Germany.

ABOUT BEAM CAMP Beam Camp offers two 4 week summer sessions for kids aged 7-17 in Strafford, New Hampshire. A l’occasion de la première édition du concours Archi’Court, le CAUE 31 lance un appel à projets pour des créations vidéos autour de l’architecture.

Le concours Archi’Court a pour objectif la valorisation de la culture architecturale, de l’urbanisme et du paysage au travers du regard de jeunes créateurs vidéos.

L’appel à candidature s’adresse à des créateurs de tous bords, cinéphiles, architectes, documentaristes, vidéastes, étudiants, qu’ils soient amateurs ou proféssionnels, désireux d’exprimer l’architecture, l’urbanisme ou le paysage au travers de la vidéo. La création est libre mais doit suivre le fil conducteur d’une thématique donnée.

Nous avons choisi pour cette première édition du projet une thématique large et ouverte, qui invite à la création et où les points de fuite ouvrent une multiplicité de choix.

Les lauréats et les vidéos sélectionnées seront diffusées durant le deuxième semestre 2013 au sein de l’espace vidéo du CMAV ainsi que sur son site internet.

a mountainous Arctic archipelago just 10 degrees from the North Pole. Each expedition
provides the opportunity for artists and innovators to pursue their personal projects on

Our vessel and home during our time in the remote Arctic, a traditionally rigged
Barquentine, is equipped with workspace, common areas, and ample room for privacy
and creativity.

La résidence des Rencontres de la jeune photographie internationale, depuis son origine, se déroule à Niort, ville de 60000 habitants située aux portes du Marais Poitevin et à 60 kilomètres de la côte Atlantique. Elle accueille tous les ans huit jeunes créateurs internationaux sélectionnés sur dossier qui, cette année seront accompagnés durant leur séjour par Denis Dailleux. Ils seront soutenus techniquement par l’équipe du Centre d’art contemporain photographique-Villa Pérochon (association Pour l’Instant). Un pôle technique, équipé de matériel professionnel comprenant un laboratoire argentique noir et blanc et un atelier numérique leur est réservé.
Ainsi entourés, les jeunes artistes sont invités à créer et expérimenter. C’est une véritable carte blanche offerte, stimulée par les rencontres, les échanges d’expériences et les parcours très différents de chaque participant.
C’est une expérience artistique unique !

Anchored in the 35-acre lake within 100 Acres, Indy Island is a habitable, “off-the-grid” structure accessible by rowboat. At about 20 feet in diameter, the island serves as an experimental living structure that examines our daily needs. Residents collaborate with Zittel by adapting and modifying the island’s structure according to their individual needs. 

Despite Indy Island’s inherent limitations, the structure and residency are relatively open-ended. The aims of past projects were diverse, including:
• In 2010, Herron School of Art and Design (Indianapolis) students Jessica Dunn and Michael Runge activated the installation through a series of visitor interactions based on a system of exchange with their project titled Give and Take.
• The 2011 island resident was Katherine Ball, a student of Portland State University’s Art + Social Practice MFA program (Portland, Oregon). Over the course of her residency, titled No Swimming, Ball initiated a series of ecologically remedial interventions in the Park’s lake and engaged a local audience through a series of public programs centered on the topic of water.
• For his 2012 residency titled INDIGENOUS: Into the Wild with A. Bitterman, Kansas City-based artist A. Bitterman created a series of sculptural interventions throughout the Park that prompted visitors to question their relationship with “the wild.” To further this inquiry, Bitterman acted as an element of nature himself, and relied on visitors for food and refrained from verbal communication.

It’s important that the 2013 residency addresses concerns not previously explored. There must be a strong rationalization for why the proposed project must take place on Indy Island. Proposals that don’t specifically relate to the island or 100 Acres will not be considered.

The Henry Moore Institute invites applications for the following fellowship programmes:
Research Fellowships are intended for artists, scholars and curators, working on historic and contemporary sculpture using the Institute’s library, archive of sculptors’ papers and the collection of Leeds Art Gallery. Up to 4 fellows will be given the opportunity to spend a month in Leeds to develop their own research. With access to our resources and an on-going dialogue with the Institute staff, fellows are free to pursue their own interests in a supportive and stimulating environment.

Senior Fellowships are intended to give established scholars (working on any aspect of sculpture) time and space to develop a research project free from their usual work commitments. Up to 2 senior fellowships, for periods of between 4 to 6 weeks will be offered.

Both fellowships provide accommodation, travel expenses and a per diem. The Institute offers the possibility of presenting finished research in published form, as a seminar, or as a small exhibition. The fellowships are an integral part of the research programme, presenting fresh perspectives on the Institute’s collections, opening up new collaborative possibilities and furthering research into sculpture.

Call to Artists: Acadia National Park Artist Residency, Maine

The Acadia National Park Artist-In-Residence Program provides professionals the opportunity to become part of a long-established tradition of artists in our national parks.

Mount Desert Island Artists: A Long Tradition
In the mid-1800s, landscape painters, including Thomas Cole and Frederic Church, came to Mount Desert Island and captured its beauty on canvas. Their work inspired writers, composers, naturalists, and folks from away to seek the natural splendor of the island.

Those who followed were known as rusticators because they ate and lived with local fishermen and farmers during their summer stay. The rusticators returned each summer to delight in the tranquillity of Mount Desert Island, and for some, to practice their craft. Villagers cottages and fishermen’s huts soon overflowed, and by 1880, 30 hotels competed for vacationers’ dollars. Ballet, opera, musical festivals, and readings flourished each summer on Mount Desert Island.
Over the years the accommodations and number of visitors have increased, but the heart of what first drew people here remains as Acadia National Park. The park, with its dramatic cliffs stretching to the sea, balsam-scented forests, and spring warbler serenades, offers artists a perfect setting to practice and pursue their craft.

Artist-In-Residence Program at Acadia
The Artist-in-Residence Program at Acadia National Park offers professional writers, composers, and all visual and performing artists the opportunity to pursue their particular art form while surrounded by the inspiring landscape of the park. In the spring and fall, the park provides housing to participants for two-week to four-week periods. No additional stipend is available.
In return, participating artists are asked to donate to the park collection a piece of work representative of their style and their stay. These creative works will be displayed on a rotating schedule or shared with the public through other appropriate means during the upcoming seasons. Artists are also asked to participate in one public program per week of their residency such as demonstrations, talks, exploratory hikes, or performances. In the fall, artists will be working with fifth and sixth grade students. Programs can be tailored to your medium, interests, and experiences, and only consume a few hours of your stay.

How to Apply
Applications for the program are accepted beginning October 1 and must be received by January 7 for consideration for the following season. Notification will be made by late March. There is a $25 non-refundable application fee for applying to the residency. Make checks payable to the National Park Service. Materials sent as part of the application packet will not be returned.
Any medium that involves collecting or altering park resources would be in conflict with national park preservation goals and would be deemed inappropriate for a residency.

Selection Process
A panel composed of professionals from various related disciplines and a park representative will choose the finalists for the upcoming season. Selections are made solely on the basis of submitted material.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many artists are selected each year? Between four and six artists, plus two alternates, are selected each year.
Do I need to have a car? Yes. There is no public transportation to the park or towns during the residency period.
What are the housing arrangements? Artists are housed in a fully furnished, one-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen outfitted with pots, pans, dishes, and silverware. The park supplies linens and bedding. There is a laundry facility in the apartment complex. Occupants supply personal items such as clocks and audiovisual equipment. Occupants are responsible for cleaning the apartment prior to their departure. Pets and smoking are not allowed. Wheelchair-accessible housing is available.
Can I bring my family or pet? Family members may join the artist for the residency as long as the number of occupants does not exceed the occupancy limits of the apartment. Pets are not permitted.

Atelier Topaz – résidence
Opasatika, Ontario, Canada
Le lieu
Situés au cœur de la forêt boréale, les Ateliers Topaz sont à la fois un lieu de retraite et un centre de création pour artistes, toutes disciplines confondues. L’endroit parfait pour la réflexion, l’évasion. Le groupement d’édifices fait 900 mètres carrés et repose sur 14 hectares face à la route Transcanadienne. Il donne sur un étang de deux hectares. Topaz c’est la « Route 66 » dans le nord de l’Ontario. L’endroit, modeste et nostalgique, rappelle aussi les grandes épopées de la colonisation francophone de l’Ontario. Ces studios de création ou cette résidence d’artistes, endroit idéal pour les arts visuels, sont situés au centre du Canada, à mi-chemin entre l’Atlantique et le Pacifique, là où les étoiles deviennent les topazes de la nuit.
Ce qu’on offre
D’abord l’espace et, l’espace de travail déterminés selon les besoins de l’artiste. Les espaces polyvalents permettent d’y faire de la peinture, de la sculpture, de l’installation, etc. L’atelier de menuiserie, le Bar à clou, est équipé des outils de base. Un magasin d’objets trouvés est disponible autant pour l’inspiration que pour l’utilisation dans une œuvre. Le peintre apporte ses pinceaux, le musicien son instrument et l’écrivain son ordi.

Les personnes qui séjournent aux Ateliers Topaz jouissent de l’accès à la cuisine et sont responsables de préparer leurs repas. Toutefois Laurent peut aussi leur cuisiner de petits plats typiquement canadiens-français aux besoins ou aux désirs. 

Topaz possède deux suites avec lit double et une chambre avec lit simple. Chacune possède sa salle de toilette avec douche. Ces installations évoquent admirablement le style des années 1960. 

Pour la baignade, le Lac des Cœurs se situe à deux kilomètres à l’est. Pour le canotage ou la pèche, la rivière Opasatika est deux kilomètres à l’ouest. Pour se déplacer, il y a de vieux vélos ou la marche. Pour un frais très raisonnable, votre hôte peut aussi vous conduire ou organiser un déplacement vers Kapuskasing à l’est ou vers Hearst à l’ouest. 

Les matériaux d’artistes ne sont pas disponibles dans la région. Il est donc important de faire vos achats avant votre séjour, à moins que vous travailliez avec des matériaux que l’on peut se procurer dans des magasins ordinaires ou même en nature.

The Helen M. Salzberg Artist in Residence Program funds two working residencies for artists each academic year at the Jaffe Center for Book Arts, in the fall and spring semesters. Artists working in the book arts (and other media, too, as long as the creative project can be thought of as book arts related) are encouraged to apply for this prestigious and competitive award. We accept applications from artists from all over the world.

Poet and artist Helen M. Salzberg established the Salzberg AIR Program in 2011. Income from this endowed fund enables artists working in the book arts to come to the Jaffe Center on a semester basis to work and teach at the center. While here, the artist will produce a creative project using JCBA studios and also teach a workshop for FAU students and the general public and mentor FAU students as his or her schedule allows. The Salzberg AIR Program gives our students the opportunity to work alongside highly talented and creative book artists.

Two residencies will be awarded each academic year: one in the fall semester and one in the spring semester. The Artist in Residence (AIR) selected each semester will get his or her own office at JCBA and full use of the JCBA studios (papermaking, letterpress and book studios). The artist’s residency will last for 12 weeks, though shorter or longer residencies may be accommodated as needed. In the application process, if an artist has a particularly ambitious creative project in mind, the artist may apply for a residency that would encompass two semesters. Should the two-semester residency be awarded in this case, the artist would be expected to teach one workshop in each semester.

The AIR receives a stipend of $5,000 for the semester. The artist is responsible for transportation, housing, parking, meals and materials for his or her creative project. JCBA will provide materials for workshops.

APPLICATION
Artists who wish to compete for consideration for this prestigious opportunity must submit their application and support materials for review by a JCBA panel comprised of book artists and book arts enthusiasts. Your application packet must be submitted via post or delivered in person to JCBA and should include the following:
1. Completed application, or suitable cover letter that supplies the same information requested on the application.
2. Brief narrative of the creative project you envision.
3. Brief narrative of the workshop you would like to teach.
4. Current resume.
5. Any support materials you care to include: we welcome images of your work, sketches for the creative project, video… be creative and have fun.

All applications will be weighed equally by our panel.

Brucebo Scholarships for Canadian Artists, Gotland, Sweden (Deadline: Jan.31st, 2013)

To commemorate the very special Swedish-Canadian link of Caroline and William’s marriage and artistic life, two Fine Art Scholarships for Canadians were established: the Brucebo Fine Art Summer Scholarship and the William Blair Bruce European Fine Art Travel Scholarship.

The Brucebo Summer Residency Scholarship provides funding for a three-month’s work stay at the Brucebo studio cottage, at Sjalso fishing village, 7 km. North of the Hanseatic and medieval City of Visby. The scholarship covers transport expenses, Canada-Visby/Gotland (return), free use of the studio cottage, plus a food stipend. The total value of the scholarship amounts to SEK 30,000 (plus)

The William Blair Bruce Travel Scholarship finances a systematic Fine Art European reserach/travel grant, to be undertaken either during the fall or winter. The scholarship can be part of a fine art related research project or of a thematic fine art study tour to various countries. Scholarship amount SEK 30,000 (Plus).

As of Fall 2002 the scholarship program is administered by the Concordia University Faculty of Fine Art, Associate Dean’s Office, Montréal.
