Programmation régulière
Prochain appel : 1er novembre 2013

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

TORONTO OUTDOOR ART EXHIBITION PRESENTS: ART NOW 2013
July 5 – 7, 2013, Nathan Phillips Square

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: April 15, 2013 @ 5PM

Art Now is a three-day alternative art program that runs concurrently with the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition (TOAE). It compliments and expands the range of work presented at TOAE to include performance, video, installation and other media that represent the diversity and vibrancy of Toronto’s art community but that have traditionally fallen outside the commercial parameters of TOAE.

Art Now animates TOAE through a series of spaces and events throughout Nathan Phillips Square, bringing over 100,000 visitors in contact with artists who create time-based and site-specific work. Art Now provokes discussion about the nature and purpose of art fairs and who participates, questioning issues of commercial and non-commercial art practices.

There is no cost to participate. Artist fees will be paid in accordance with the CARFAC fee schedule.

Opportunities to participate:

TOAE invites interdisciplinary artists from Toronto to propose innovative artwork that explores current issues shaping contemporary art, the role of the art fair as an agent in the commercialization of art, and/or the theme of “art relief” as outlined below.

We seek applications for installations, sculpture, performance art, video and integrated media that are appropriate for:

1. Outdoor display. Show organizers will assign spaces throughout Nathan Phillips Square.

OR

2. Installation in, on or around dedicated restrooms, based on the theme of “art relief.” We invite artists to consider what “relief” could mean in the context of an art fair. For example, how can relief be provided from art? From the commercial art world? From the experience of visiting an outdoor art show? Non-functioning bathrooms (identical in appearance to the rows of porta-potties provided for visitors on the edge of the square) will be scattered around the site to encourage contemplation in isolation from the rest of TOAE. These small exhibition spaces can house video screens and will also be made available for artists to use the interiors and exteriors in creative ways. Note that no permanent alterations may be made to the restrooms, and any videos should be of an appropriate length for one sitting.

With the exception of technology-based artwork, all works should be suitable for installation outdoors and for all audiences. Proposals should account for visitor safety. All proposals are subject to approval by the City of Toronto.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions must be emailed by 5 pm on April 15, 2013 to:
artnowsubmissions [arobas] gmail [point] com
The subject line of the email must read: Art Now 2013
Submissions must include:
•    Your name, address, telephone number and email contact
•    Statement describing the proposed work for exhibition, how it would be installed and how visitors might interact with it
•    Ten jpg images* or a motion file of the work to be exhibited
•    Description of images or motion file (title, year, medium, duration)
•    A brief bio (150 words maximum) and CV (two pages maximum)
•    Artists proposing new work should include examples of previous work, especially if it is relevant to the proposed project
•    please compress your images into a zip file
•    Jpg images can be no larger than 1024 X 768 pixels and 300 dpi

Selected artists will be notified by the end of April, 2013.

The exhibition will take place at Nathan Phillips Square from July 5 – 7, 2013.

All selected artists will be expected to install and tear down their own work. Artists must provide all materials for installation. Media-based artists must submit a screening quality DVD. Artists are also encouraged to be present during the three-days of the exhibition to greet the public and answer any questions about their work.

TOAE is pleased to announce that Rafi Ghanaghounian, a Toronto-based artist and curator, will join this year’s Art Now selection committee as guest curator.

The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition is Canada’s largest annual juried outdoor art exhibition held every July at Nathan Phillips Square, City Hall Toronto.

CALL FOR ARTISTS: Franklin Furnace Fund Deadline date: April 1, 2013: City: New York, USA: Source: Franklin Furnace
This season is the 28th anniversary of the Franklin Furnace Fund. Initiated in 1985 with the support of Jerome Foundation, Franklin Furnace has annually awarded grants to emerging artists selected by peer panel review to enable them to prepare major performance art works. Events are presented in partnership with collegial venues, online, or, in the city environment. Grants range between $2,000 and $10,000 based on the peer review panel allocation of funding received by Franklin Furnace. Artists from all areas of the world are encouraged to apply; however, artists supported by funding from Jerome Foundation must live in the five boroughs of New York. Full-time students are ineligible.
Franklin Furnace has no curator; each year a new panel of artists reviews all proposals. We believe this peer panel system allows all kinds of artists from all over the world an equal shot at presenting their work. Every year the panel changes, as do the definitions of “emerging artist” and “performance art.” So if at first you don’t succeed, please try again. Since 1985, the Fund has helped launch the careers of Jo Andres, Tanya Barfield, Jibz Cameron aka Dynasty Handbag, Lenora Champagne, Patty Chang, Papo Colo, Brody Condon, Nicolás Dumit Estévez, Karen Finley, John Fleck, Coco Fusco, Kate Gilmore, Pablo Helguera, Donna Henes, Murray Hill, Holly Hughes, Liz Magic Laser, Taylor Mac, Robbie McCauley, Jennifer Miller, Naeem Mohaiemen, Rashaad Newsome, Clifford Owens, Pope.L, Dread Scott, Pamela Sneed, Fiona Templeton and Diane Torr, among 241 other fund recipients.

Call for application
Deadline : 12/5/2013
www.residencesuddenly.comwww.facebook.com/residencesuddenly
NOTE D’INTENTION

La Box: call for projects
Deadline: 31 March 2013
Application fee: none
The École Nationale Supérieure d’Art (ENSA) in Bourges provides its students with generous workspaces and technical facilities that are regularly modernised and re-equipped. It offers a Masters in Visual Arts that puts the emphasis on inventiveness and creativity.
La Box is one of the school’s main educative tools, and every year it organises ten exhibitions by artists from France and elsewhere.
For the last eight years, it has been entrusting part of its programme to young curators over the course of an academic year, chosen and monitored by members of the School’s teaching team—Arnaud Deshayes, Ingrid Luche and Hervé Trioreau in 2012–13.
Moreover, for twenty years now, ENSA has been providing residencies, with the backing of the Regional Cultural Affairs Office (DRAC) and France’s Centre Region. These residencies are intended to give young artists from France and other countries the chance to carry out personal research projects in association with the school, its teachers, its students and any other outside partner of their choice.
Call for a curatorial project
Part of the programme for the 2013–14 season will be entrusted to an independent curator, a critic or a collective whose curatorial project has been chosen by La Box’s selection panel.
The final proposal should lay down the project’s structure and time frame before the end of June 2013, when timetabling of the exhibitions for the following season will take place. The project’s experimental character will be one of the main selection criteria.
As part of the School’s teaching context, the programme should include the presence and participation of the students in workshops extending from the designing of the exhibitions through to their actual presentation. The curator(s) should also choose and implement a liaison approach aimed at an outside audience.
The overall budget is 25,000 euros. Of this 20,000 euros will be devoted to production and transport of works, travel and accommodation expenses for the artists, travel expenses for the curator(s), communication, publications; the remaining 5000 euros will cover miscellaneous expenses for the curator(s).
Candidates must be aware that this kind of programme demands considerable availability on their part. Attendance at regular on-site meetings—including the project validation and organisation meeting in June 2013—is indispensable. In addition, ready responsiveness by phone or email is vital during preparation of the programme. The curator must be present during the setting up and opening of exhibitions.
In the case of a collective, dialogue and coordination between the members is essential so as to avoid all contradictions in their dealings with the School and La Box.
Terms and conditions
Draft projects must be presented using the following form, downloaded and filled out. They should be sent by email to la [point] box [arobas] ensa-bourges [point] fr, marked for the attention of Chloé Nicolas.
Closing date for applications: 31 March 2013
The short list will be drawn up in April 2013.
Interviewing and selection of shortlisted candidates will take place in May 2013. Prior to this they will be asked to provide further details of their projects.
Call for residency projects
Annually since 1991 ENSA has been providing residencies, with the backing of the Regional Cultural Affairs Office and France’s Centre Region. These residencies are intended to give young artists from France and other countries the chance to carry out personal research projects in association with the school, its teachers, its students and any other outside partner of their choice.
Successful applicants are awarded a residency of a minimum of three months and a maximum of four months, for periods to be agreed on during the academic year.
They each receive a grant of 3000 euro.
Terms and conditions
Portfolio + application form sent by email in PDF to la.box(@)ensa-bourges.fr

Atelier Topaz – résidence
Opasatika, Ontario, Canada
