Fondée et issue des mouvements féministes en 1973, La Centrale galerie Powerhouse est un des plus anciens centres d’artistes
autogérés du Québec. Le centre s’est donné pour mandat de développer les pratiques artistiques féministes et de soutenir la
visibilité d’artistes et d’initiatives moins ou peu représenté-es auprès des institutions culturelles établies. Le centre a pour objectif
d’offrir une plateforme pour les langages en art actuel porté par les discours féministes, les théories du genre, la diversité
culturelle et la transdisciplinarité. Cela implique l’importance du développement des réseaux d’échanges professionnels à
l’échelle locale, nationale et internationale. Le centre encourage les artistes à toutes les étapes de leur carrière afin de permettre
les échanges intergénérationnels. La programmation et les événements organisés par la galerie sont le reflet des intérêts et
engagements des membres du centre.

Description du concours
Le concours «Jeunesse francophone en action» vise la promotion du français par les jeunes pour les jeunes. Le Centre de la francophonie des Amériques vous invite à célébrer la richesse et la diversité de la langue française.
Que feriez-vous pour stimuler l’utilisation du français auprès des jeunes de votre milieu?
Répondez à cette question en réalisant un clip vidéo présentant un projet stimulant pour votre communauté, votre établissement scolaire ou votre milieu culturel.
Dix bourses de 3000 $ seront attribuées aux meilleurs projets. Ces bourses sont offertes par le Centre de la francophonie des Amériques afin de vous permettre de réaliser votre projet.

Le 1er avril 2010 est la date limite pour présenter une demande d’aide financière dans le cadre des programmes suivants : Création, Documentation, Résidences de création Nouveau-Brunswick/Québec, et, Résidences de création Nouveau-Brunswick/Manitoba.
Le programme de subvention à la création offre une aide aux artistes professionnels en début de carrière, en mi-carrière et seniors du Nouveau-Brunswick pour la recherche et l’exécution de projets originaux dans les arts. Les subventions sont conçues pour permettre aux artistes de consacrer une plus grande partie de leur temps à la recherche et à la création artistique.
Le programme de documentation offre une aide aux artistes et aux professionnels des arts du Nouveau-Brunswick pour la recherche, le développement et la création de matériel original documentant l’activité, la production ou l’histoire artistique du Nouveau-Brunswick pour des fins d’archivage. La priorité sera accordée aux projets traitant de sujets néo-brunswickois.
Les programmes de résidences de création Nouveau-Brunswick/Québec et Nouveau-Brunswick/Manitoba sont deux ententes qui prévoient la création d’un programme annuel d’échanges d’artistes et d’écrivains professionnels, permettant aux candidats sélectionnés de réaliser des résidences de création et de ressourcement dans la province participante. Disposant d’une totale autonomie, les créateurs participant à ces programmes définissent eux-mêmes les objectifs de leur séjour et élaborent les paramètres et les conditions de sa réalisation en collaboration avec un organisme artistique ou communautaire situé sur le territoire où aura lieu la résidence.

La Galerie du Centre culturel franco-manitobain
Appel aux artistes en arts visuel
Le Centre culturel franco-manitobain vous invite à soumettre une proposition
d’exposition en arts visuels pour la période de programmation allant de janvier 2011 à juillet 2012.
À noter : L’utilisation du masculin à pour but d’alléger le texte et désigne à la fois les hommes et les femmes sans discrimination.
Le Centre culturel franco-manitobain abrite une galerie d’art depuis sa construction en 1974. Celle-ci occupe 1 772 pieds carrés au rez-de-chaussée de l’édifice, au cœur du lieu public. Au cours des années, la Galerie du CCFM a présenté plusieurs expositions importantes pour initier la communauté francophone du Manitoba à une culture visuelle. Le Centre culturel franco-manitobain est présentement à la recherche de soumissions pour des expositions en arts visuels, pour la période de programmation allant de janvier 2011 à juillet 2012. Tout artiste professionnel ayant terminé sa formation de base, ayant pratiqué son art au moins un an depuis la fin de ses études, et ayant à son actif un corps d’œuvres pour exposition est invité à remettre sa soumission pour une exposition dans la Galerie.
Les soumissions devront inclure:
* une lettre d’intention (indiquez clairement le nom du projet proposé et son contexte de présentation);
* une description détaillée du projet;
* un résumé de la philosophie sous-jacente à votre œuvre;
* un curriculum vitae ou une biographie à jour, comprenant une liste des expositions et l’expérience pertinente;
* 10 à 20 diapositives ou photographies numériques sur CD d’œuvres récentes;
* une liste détaillée du matériel d’appui;
* les besoins techniques du projet proposé;
* une enveloppe affranchie pour le retour des documents (si désiré);
* un dossier de presse (facultatif).
Processus
Les artistes professionnels seront sélectionnés par un jury selon le mérite artistique, tout en respectant le mandat du CCFM, qui est de promouvoir et de parrainer à l’intention de l’ensemble de la population du Manitoba des activités culturelles et artistiques se déroulant en français.
Le CCFM assumera la responsabilité des coûts de base pour la publicité et pour les vernissages d’expositions. Les œuvres devront être encadrées/présentées de façon professionnelle.
Conditions
Toutes les soumissions seront remises au jury. Si votre soumission est acceptée, une demande de subvention sera envoyée au Conseil des arts du Manitoba. La présentation de l’exposition est sujette à l’octroi des fonds nécessaires. La Galerie du Centre culturel franco-manitobain respecte les cachets d’artistes recommandés par CARFAC.

Folie/Culture, organisme qui suscite la réflexion sur des questions de santé mentale en empruntant des pistes de recherche inusitées, vous invite à repousser les limites de l’art et à soumettre vos projets les plus fous pour participer à une soirée cabaret exceptionnelle.
Vous êtes artiste professionnel ou un collectif d’artistes et vous avez des idées surprenantes, indomptables, extravagantes ? Ça pourrait nous séduire ! Par son mandat ouvert, Folie/Culture favorise la pluridisciplinarité mais est également sensible à toutes les pratiques artistiques. Nous aimons dire que nous sommes non-disciplinaires.
La proposition doit aborder la thématique Sortez vos morts. Que l’on parle de ces morts intérieures, celles qui nous habitent et qui nous étouffent complètement, ou de ces morts ex-corpus, néanmoins gênantes et que l’on aimerait bien oublier, une réflexion s’impose. S’interroger sur nous-même, sur nos cadavres sédimentés, nos cafards puants, nos douloureuses manies, c’est une invitation à la fois individuelle et collective à l’autocritique, à la franchise, à l’expiation, au nettoyage émotif; le champ d’investigation privilégié de Folie/Culture.
Pour participer, vous devez envisager une saynète — musique, performance, magie, cirque, vaudou, théâtre — qui ne dépasse pas 10 minutes.
La sélection des projets se fera en avril 2010, et ils seront présentés fin octobre, dans la ville de Québec. Folie/Culture assurera le bouclage financier pour les projets ayant été retenus. Notez que nous n’avons pas de galerie ni d’équipement de production ou de diffusion, ce qui nous oblige à travailler en étroites collaborations et à réinventer les lieux de diffusion.

Le Centre d’exposition L’Imagier – APPEL DE DOSSIERS 2011

Le Centre d’exposition L’Imagier invite les artistes qui désirent exposer dans le cadre de la programmation annuelle 2011 à faire parvenir leur dossier avant le 1er avril 2010. La programmation régulière débute en janvier et se termine en décembre.
Cette année, une attention particulière sera portée à la diversité des pratiques artistiques. Les démarches intégrant les nouveaux médias sont les bienvenues.
L’Imagier met à la disposition des artistes deux salles à l’architecture unique. Le Centre convie les artistes à soumettre un projet d’exposition pouvant occuper une des deux salles ou les deux. Les propositions d’expositions de groupe réunissant deux ou trois artistes sont également acceptées.
Les dossiers reçus seront soumis à un jury de pairs.

Established in 1999, the RBC Canadian Painting Competition, with the support of the Canadian Art Foundation, is a unique initiative to help nurture and support promising new artists in the early stages of their careers; a time when they need both recognition and financial support.
A regional jury panel of distinguished members of the arts community, will select five paintings from their regions as follows: Eastern (Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland and Labrador), Central (Ontario) and Western Canada (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut). The three jury panels will then select one national winner and two honourable mentions from the 15 semi-finalists. The national winner will receive $25,000 and the two honourable mentions will each receive $15,000.
The 2010 RBC Canadian Painting Competition “call for submissions” is now open. The 15 semi-finalists will be announced June 2010 and the winners October 2010.

The Toronto Sculpture Garden has been a leader in Canada in the commissioning of contemporary sculpture since it opened in 1981. Located in an urban park in the downtown core, it serves as a testing ground for artists to explore public space and to address issues of urban context, materials and scale.
BACKGROUND:
The TSG is a non-collecting institution that is unique in its partnership between the City of Toronto, which owns and operates the site as a city park, and the Louis L. Odette Family, benefactors who created the non-profit L.L.O. Sculpture Garden Foundation which funds and administers the exhibitions. Exhibitions are selected by an Art Advisory Board working with the director, Rina Greer.
Newly commissioned work becomes property of the artist and may be offered for sale after the conclusion of the exhibition.
PROPOSALS:
The TSG’s Art Advisory Board meets three times a year to review specific proposals. Preference is given to new work that responds to the site; only in exceptional cases will existing work be considered. We are currently looking for exhibitions for 2011 and beyond.
Proposals must be received by the deadlines each year on January 15, May 15 and September 15.
Proposals require:
* Drawing(s) showing dimensions and materials and the location of the work on the site.
* Brief statement of Theme
* Budget showing critical costs including materials, installation/removal and transportation

Artists/artist teams are invited to submit professional qualifications
and a letter of interest as a first stage in the two-stage Kitchener
Public Library Public Art Competition.
Built in 1962, the Kitchener Public Library connects the community to a
world of imagination, information and discovery, though it no longer
adequately meets the needs of Kitchener’s approximately 215,000
residents. The renovation project, scheduled to begin in the fall of
2010, with an anticipated completion date of January 2013, will improve
this service to the community. Additional information about the project

The identified location for the public art installation is the proposed
two-story atrium just inside the front entrance at Queen Street. The
atrium features abundant natural light coming from both the glazed
pop-up roof with continuous glazing and from windows located above the
Queen Street entrance. The proposed floor finish is a low luster stone.
The railings surrounding the atrium at the upper floor will all be clear
glass. The artist may consider suspending art work from the roof or
truss, and/or fastening it to the guard rail. Given the nature of the
library environment, works powered by or incorporating motors are not
acceptable.
NOTE: This competition is open to professional artists/artist teams with
experience in creating site responsive permanently installed public art
projects.

Spark Box Studio, an art studio, print shop and artistsâ residency that offers unique opportunities
to emerging and professional artists, writers, and students, has just opened up in Prince Edward

Spark Box Studio provides space for artists to live, research, investigate and experiment in

Gallery Connexion welcomes submissions from artists of any discipline

Gallery Connexion is committed to paying artistâs fees as outlined in the
CARFAC fee schedule. The current rates are as follows:
* $1500 for a solo show
* $235 for a Speakerâs/Workshop Fee under 4 hours
* $3500 for a residency fee
* Up to $200 for return shipping
Gallery Connexion annually programs 4-5 exhibitions, artist residencies,
film and video screenings, performance, spoken word, musical shows, poetry

SOCIAL PROPAGANDA MIXING MACHINE (VIVO 2010: Safe Assembly)
1. 2010 RIGHT TO THE CITY VIDEO PROJECT
Cities, through their selective processes of urbanization, constantly
reinvent concepts and positions which attack the very idea of ‘the right to
the city.’
While some would say that a ‘right to the city’ is merely the assertion of
human rights in the urban domain, it is also a slogan, a repositioning of
human rights as an agenda, a clarion call to reorient who participates in
decision-making.
>From Henri Lefebvre’s use of the term to its contemporary proliferation as
a civil society challenge to neo-liberal urban policymaking, the ‘right to
the city’ is not just about ensuring access to the resources of the city,
but also about democratizing the opportunities to remake the city.
As with other global hallmark events, the 2010 Olympics tend to expedite
development paths in a city and quicken the urbanization processes which
are already underway.
The Social Propaganda Mixing Machine is inviting video artists, social
activists to produce artistic propaganda from their own unique vantage
point by considering ‘the right to the city’ as a conceptual point of
departure – and a means to consider Vancouver as a subject in this specific
moment.
A few things to consider:
-it has to be a film or video work
-it has to be less than 10 minutes
-it has to be made by March 31st, 2010
-there is limited gear available at VIVO, so people should have access to
their own equipment.
-we have no funding to cover costs or pay.
-you will retain full rights over your work
-the work will be screened later this year at VIVO.

2. BC TOURISM PROPAGANDA PROJECT
BC Tourism is promoted with the motto, “The Best Place on Earth.” As with
most international mega-events, governments utilize the exposure to promote
their regions for tourism and economic development either through
advertising, the use of pavillions or other marketing intervetions. The
representation of the City and the province will be take on particular,
distorted forms in order to maximize the economic impacts of tourism.
Video artists and filmmakers are invited to participate in making
advertisements about BC with the “The Best Place on Earth” motto that
investigate some of the historic and socio-political questions that have
been contested.
A few considerations:
-The work needs to be under 3 minutes long
-The work needs to be completed by March 31st, 2010
-The work will be shown at VIVO later this year
-Though there is access to some equipment at VIVO, participants should try
to have access to their own equipment

that addresses the idea of what is lost, and what might be gained, in
translation.
We are interested in works that address literal linguistic translation, the
movement of cultural objects from one context to another, conversion from
one media to another, transliteration and transmogrification.
For written works (both artistic and journalistic), the suggested word
count is “short” (most pieces will be 500-700 words). Assignments are

Mission
Harpo Foundation was established in 2006 to support artists who are under
recognized by the field. This applies to all artists whether emerging or
further along in their careers. We view the definitions of art and artist
to be open-ended and expansive.
2010 Funding Focus
The relationship between art and site in an era defined by digital
technologies is the focus for Harpo Foundation’s 2010 funding cycle. Of
specific interest is the dialectic between the non-locality of the digital
world and the existential physicality of our everyday environment. For
example, our sense of place is being drastically altered by web space,
which brings geographically distant locations together to form a new kind
of locality, yet what’s small, local, personal, political and natural
informs our vision for a sustainable future; the search for place-bound
identity persists.
When site-specific art emerged in the late 1960’s, the physical and
experiential qualities of a fixed and permanent location inspired the art.
Since then, ‘site’ has been redefined endlessly, turning the tangible,
grounded concept into something fluid and transient. Interestingly, in our
everyday lives, the local is often seen as losing ground to global dynamics
like hypermobility and deterritorialization, evoking the question, has
place has become an ephemeral, fleeting image?
The Foundation is interested in how artists are reclaiming the significance
of the local while simultaneously placing themselves and their creative
lives within a global context. We are interested in supporting projects
that are grounded in the real world, that will draw upon local phenomena,
activate social relationships to inspire a community, trigger memory to
recall a place’s unique history, to name just a few of the ways we see
artists addressing site today. We are also interested in supporting
projects that explore the idea of place using technologies that challenge
our traditional notions of what qualifies as locality.
In pursuing this direction for one year, we hope to shed light on how
artists today are locating or siting their work in a dematerializing world
and the Foundation will prioritize projects that expand, explore, critique,
reconcile, and challenge this 21st century phenomenon.

2010/2011 Open Call for Submissions

Video Pool invites submissions for the 2010/11 programming season. We are striving to exhibit projects that challenge the boundaries of media art. This can include:
• New media
• Experimental electronics/hacking of electronics
• Installation (with media components)
• Sound art
• Single-channel video that would be appropriate as an installed exhibition
• Curatorial packages (with media components)
• Web 2.0 technology
• Mobile devices
• Open source technology
Video Pool is particularly interested in projects that intervene in public space or otherwise make use of non-traditional exhibition settings, including the online world.
Submission Requirements
(Please note that due to funding requirements, primary consideration will be given to Canadian citizens.)
All Submissions Must Include:
1. Artist/curator CV including current contact information (mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address)
2. A short description of the proposed project or video(s), including an outline of the critical and/or curatorial objectives of the work submitted. TWO PAGE MAXIMUM
3. Names of all participating artists.
4. Titles of all proposed projects/videos, as well as year of completion and city of origin.
5. Exhibition history of each project, including a description of contexts within which the work will be presented in the coming year.
A statement indicating if the artist(s)/curator(s) plan to be in attendance with the work and, if so, in what capacity they would expect to participate in the screening/exhibition. Proposals for workshops and other development activities are especially encouraged.
6. Support material: Please do not send originals as Video Pool will not accept responsibility for the loss of, or damage to, any support material. Still images should be submitted on CD (maximum 20 images, .jpg preferred, please do not exceed 72 dpi or a resolution of 1024 X 768 pixels) Video support material should be NTSC and submitted on VHS, DVD, or Mini DV. Audio support material should be submitted on CD.
7. Complete list of all audio, video, and images submitted.
8. Please include a SASE if you would like your support material returned.

Twitter/Art+Social Media is an open-call project addressing works by artists who use social media for the inspiration, production or presentation of their artwork. The exhibit includes a gallery exhibition and events as well as online components. Artists must be active users of social media and be interested in the theme of the show.
Social media may include websites, blogging, instant messenger, rss feeds, social bookmarking, Facebook, Blogger, Flickr, MySpace, deviantART, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Skype and podcasts. Artwork may include painting, drawing, photography, printmaking and three-dimensional work as well as computer-based art, video and performance formats.
All contemporary artists who are able to deliver their work to the gallery are eligible to apply. We regret we cannot accept shipped works of any kind. You must be an independent artist and not represented by a gallery or any other agent that will prohibit your submission to this show.

Gallery 1313 Window Box

Curators Simone Rojas-Pick and Jessica Nagy are currently
accepting creative proposals from emerging artists for their
exhibition series, Intersections, taking place in Gallery 1313’s
Window Box. From May 2010 – April 2011, the Window Box will
be devoted to the Launch Pad Project, which will feature four
different exhibition series based on the themes of motion and
flux.
Intersections, the first instalment in the Launch Pad Project, is
centred around the concept of the “mash-up”; where two or more
voices/mediums/styles are combined to create a single work.
The focus of these exhibitions will be on the changeability of
environment and the limits of creation. We extend the
challenge to artists to forget accepted “rules” and work in a
fashion that includes an understanding of flexibility in relation
to the immediate environment. This approach should bring
about new and exciting projects that push beyond the restraints
of the traditional gallery milieu and the confines of set artistic
disciplines.
Artists are welcome to submit work in any media, including but
not limited to: drawing, painting, photography, sculpture,
installation, participatory, performance, video, and new media.
Intersections encourages artists to push the boundaries of their
comfort zones and take the opportunity to experiment with new
mediums or styles. Artists applying collaboratively with
significantly different practices will be given special
consideration. Artists applying independently may be matched
by the curators with other applicants to produce a collaborative
work. Proposals for artist-led community engagement and
outreach activities to accompany the main exhibition are also
welcome.

The curatorial team of The 2nd Roma Pavilion â Call the Witness announces
its open call for artists, researchers and media archive.
This project that will be presented in Venice in 2011 is conceptualised and
curated by the interdisciplinary collaborative curatorial team: Suzana
Milevska, Vladan Jeremic, Rena Raedle and Enisa Eminovska.
The 2nd Roma Pavilion – Call the Witness is an interdisciplinary
collaboration that aims to fostering, producing and presenting contemporary
and new media art by Roma artists from different regions and cultures. In
the core of the project lies the concept of contemporary artist as an
instantaneous witness of his/her time who is not a passive viewer but
rather acts as an active participant in solidarity with the events and
people that provoked his/her art work. Such a phenomenon wherein art
becomes a potential agency for social makeover acquires a completely new
prospect in the period of digitalisation and globalisation and may largely
affect Roma communities.
We issue a “Call for Witnesses” to bring up testimonies and statements for
hearing from artists and researchers that will raise the awareness of
different situations of Roma communities in the world, reaching from
displacement and discrimination to successful emancipatory processes. The
question: who has the control over the means of representation and has the
power to promote the dominant cultural and moral values concerning
Roma/Gypsy communities provoked us to put emphasis on new media art as
available means for self-presentation and self-reflection.
We invite artists and researchers to submit proposals that address these
issues in a way that will allow a further collaborative development, both
content and media wise. The selected contributors will be invited to
present and discuss their proposals at a working meeting to take place in
Belgrade (April 2010) where we will discuss the possibilities of eventual
further productions of individual works or collaborative projects. The
conditions for production will be agreed for the most promising concepts to
be realised in 2010 and presented at the 2nd Roma Pavilion in Venice (2011).
The project 2nd Roma Pavilion – Call the Witness is organised by the Roma
Media Base â Skopje based organisation for archiving, producing and
presenting contemporary and new media art by Roma artists and communities,
and the Biro za kulturu i komunikaciju from Belgrade. The project is
supported by Open Society Institute and other organisations and sponsors.
The First Roma Pavilion took place in 2007 as a collateral exhibition at
the 52nd Venice Biennale and was initiated by Open Society Institute.
HOW TO APPLY?

Dans le cadre des missions de l’Observatoire Nationale des Cultures Urbaines ayant pour objectif de promouvoir les Cultures Urbaines (Arts Urbains et Sports Urbains), il paraissait important et utile d’organiser une manifestation artistique pour répondre à des demandes, notamment des acteurs de la culture Hip Hop que nous représentons, recherchant la qualité artistique et de la mise en valeur de langue française à travers un festival international en phase avec son temps.
Le projet de créer une Académie Nationale des Cultures Urbaines associée à un musée vivant et à l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Cultures Urbaines, doit inclure un fond national artistique rassemblant l’ensemble des productions sonores et visuelles réalisées pendant plusieurs années. «FRANCORAP», premier festival francophone de musique Rap répond à la valorisation des Cultures Urbaines et ainsi apporter une visibilité pour mieux encourager les talents, aussi bien le travail amateur que professionnel. «FRANCORAP» se décompose en deux temps : son concours international et son festival francophone.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: INT’L CERAMICS COMPETITION OF L’ALCORA, SPAIN

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: APRIL 30, 2010
The Town Council of L’Alcora, announces its call for entries for the 30th edition of the International Ceramics Competition of L’Alcora 2010, organised by a Commission designated to that effect. All participants are entitled to present a maximum of two works of art created with ceramic materials, which must be original and unique. Entries created by non ceramic procedures, works of an industrial nature or those who have entered in another competitions will not be admitted.
Works must not exceed 2 metres long in any of their dimensions. Entries not measuring 30 cm long or wide will not be accepted. Entries must be sent to the Secretaría del Concurso (Museo de Cerámica, C/ Teixidors, 5 – E12110 L’Alcora · Spain) before April 30th, 2010.
All entries must include a properly completed application form, and the author or authors’ curriculum vitae. Registration will be able by e-mail museu [arobas] alcora [point] org, also attaching the curriculum vitae. A maximum of three images with neutral background (either printed or in jpg format -200 dpi minimum) must be attached to each work of art.
Finalist entries must be sent to the L’Alcora Ceramics Museum before June 18th, 2010. Those works who break this term will be excluded from the competition. Finalist entries will be exposed from July 15th until October 10th, 2010.

L’objet est de “constitution fragile”. Il va passer par une centaine de mains et de personnes, en se promenant ainsi partout dans cette “planète fragile”.

Fundada Artists Film Festival 2010

Fundada Artists’ Film Festival is a contemporary film and video event run by artists intending to showcase the best in contemporary screen-based art from across the globe. Fundada believes that art should be fun and inclusive yet conceptually strong and critically engaged. The film festival will be comprised of selected screen-based submissions from an international open call and curated by Alice Bradshaw and Nancy Porter; collaborating artists who previously co-directed and co-curated respectively at Temporary Art Space in Halifax in 2009. Fundada is an artist-run not-for-profit organisation.

POLYMER INTERNATIONAL ARTIST IN RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Culture Factory Polymer is now accepting proposals for it’s international artist in residency program. Artists (both groups and individuals) from any country and all artistic fields are welcome to apply for a residency at Polymer. Our interest lies in genre bending, cross-cultural exchange and interaction with the local artistic community through workshops and public dissemination. We seek artists with personal motivation to independently carry out artistic activity and engage with the cultural environment that Polymer and the city of Tallinn offer.

Culture Factory Polymer is an independent multidisciplinary cultural center in Tallinn Estonia, that was established in 2004. It’s the main strong point for alternative un-institutionalized culture in Tallinn. Situated in a former toy factory, Polymer has evolved into a place for international artist residencies and the diffusion of ideas and energy. Within the walls of the building live together about 30 artists and organizations, working in diverse artistic fields. Festival curator David Gilbert is calling for proposals for our commissioned programme for 2010 and beyond.
Thematically Wirksworth Festival will continue to explore the relationship between Art & Architecture, and over the next three years we want to explore the nature, meanings and uses (past, present, actual and potential) of buildings | indoor and outdoor space | public and private space in a number of ways:
1. Pavilion Programme. A call to architects and designers interested in proposing a temporary structure (a Pavilion) for Wirksworth.
2. [Im]Possible Wirksworth: An inventory of unrealised ideas. The Pavilion will contain concept designs, fly-through graphics, maquettes etc, from architects, designers, artists, proposing exciting and radical new buildings, remodelling of existing buildings, uses of unusual and problematic sites, etc…
Some of these projects may be realised as part of the commissioned programme.
3. Site-specific/Site-responsive commissions. This will be complemented by extending the site-specific and site-responsive art commissioning programme, so we are now seeking proposals for interventions in spaces in the town, whether sculptural, architectural, projected (including film, interactive work and 3D motion graphics) or performative.
4. Film and Moving Image. A new strand to the Festival is film/artists’ film and video, with an architecture themed short film salon for 2010, and the potential for projection works which interact with, intervene in or respond to architecture.

Aesthetica Short Film Competition
The Aesthetica Short Film Competition has just been launched! Leading the search for filmmakers who are driving the genre of short film forward through inspirational and innovative works the competition provides an opportunity for both new and experienced filmmakers to have their work broadcast to a wider audience. All genres of film are being accepted: drama, documentary, music video, animation, satire, comedy, artists’ film and anything else you can think of!
This award offers winners and runners-up a fantastic prize package, including:
* Screenings of your film at: The National Media Museum (Bradford), Rushes Soho Shorts Film Festival (London), Glasgow Film Festival, Kerry Film Festival (Ireland), Project Space Leeds and on the Aesthetica website.

Takt offers 10 rooms to active artists visiting Berlin. The residency arised from the takt kunstprojektraum project, a non-profit, artist-run effort, founded in 2003. The main goal of the residency program is to provide artists visiting Berlin quick access to an environment that will foster their creative energies. Participating artists are invited and expected to explore their creative paths. The artists participating in the program have the opportunity to participate in open studio events. The residency has a strong element of community living. It merges a community living environment with creative artistic exploration. The rooms are all on the same floor, on either side of an L-shaped hallway. There are two kitchens and two bathrooms, which are shared by all those in the space. A series of meetings is organized each month, where people can present their work and exchange ideas. The goals are to create a platform for dynamic exchange, to allow the possibility for spontaneous collaborations, and to build up networks among artists.
There is no stipend or living allowance associated with a studio residency. Artists will need to consider other sources of income to fund their visit. The cost for participating in the residency program varies depending on the size of the room and other conditions of the space.
The rooms are located in the East-Berlin neighborhood of Friedrichshain. The neighborhood offers many café’s, restaurants, bars and shops. There is easy access to public transportation, and one can quickly get to other parts of the city. There are many artists living in the neighborhood and most people speak English as well as German.

is seeking silent, single-channel videos with a duration of eight minutes or less from professional artists to be presented on opening night of “The Dissolve” SITE’s Eighth International Biennial.

The Biennial, organized by Sarah Lewis and Daniel Belasco, explores the paradigm shift within the realm of contemporary art making in which traditional visual arts (such as sculpture, drawing, painting) mingle with up-to-the-minute technology, creating a hybrid practice where the homespun meets the high-tech.
For one night only, Friday, June 18, 2010 – the selected videos will be projected onto building facades throughout SITE’s Railyard district during the gala dinner and after party.
