APPEL: Folie/Culture

– des analyses en ligne de la culture queer, transgenre et/ou hétérosexuelle;
– les pratiques artistiques en réseau et les conversations sur les féminismes et le « queerness »;
– des descriptions de conversations et de pratiques non-académiques, artistiques et féministes facilitées par Internet;
– la structure genrée d’Internet;
– des analyses féministes de la sous-culture d’Internet;
– des entretiens avec des personnes créatives travaillant sur ces thèmes;
– des déclarations et des manifestes;

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS:
2013 INDIGENOUS ROUTES - NATIVES ONLINE
Online and Mobile Development Commission

About Indigenous Routes:
The Indigenous Routes Collective was founded in 2011 by
Amanda Strong, Archer Pechawis and Ben Donoghue to carry
out community collaborative projects producing interactive
documentaries, and to provide new media opportunities for
Indigenous youth. Indigenous Routes is a collaboration
between professional media artists and Indigenous peoples
towards the production of interactive media exploring personal
narratives of native space. http://www.indigenousroutes.ca

The Indigenous Routes Collective is currently looking for two
Ontario-based indigenous artists for a commission to produce
new web or mobile-based applications, games, and/or sites
reflecting native culture. This project is open to all indigenous*
artists resident in Ontario, with priority given to individuals
outside major urban centres.

This project will commission two new projects for web and
mobile dissemination. These will fall into simple video games
or basic interactive projects. Due to server constraints all projects
can involve only text, photo, geolocation and some audio. The
possibilities extend from local works exploring geolocation to
video games exploring native realities. We are primarily
interested in proposals that reflect contemporary native culture
in your community. This is an open call and every support in
the project will follow the accepted projects.

EXTENDED DEADLINE: Monday, August 12, 2013 at 5:00pm

This Indigenous Routes Project is supported by the Ontario Arts
Council (www.arts.on.ca), the Liaison of Independent
Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) (www.lift.ca), and the Hand Eye
Society (www.handeyesociety.com).

National Call for Proposals from Artists and Curators for Urban Screen Art Projects

Digital screens and billboards offer new sites for the public display of arts and cultural projects, and new opportunities for the exchange of ideas. The 2013 Art in Transit program features 25 local and national projects on a variety of Pattison ‘urban screen’ and print media across Canada.

Pattison Onestop is now accepting proposals by artists and curators for original projects to include in our 2014 Art in Transit program. Possible venues/media include the network of screens in the Toronto subway system; screens in the Edmonton LRT; screens in the Calgary airport; our national digital mall network of over 300 screens, and digital billboards. Most of our screens are silent, and interactivity is not possible. We also occasionally work with HD (and 4K) video walls and print media such as subway posters and bus cards.

Video, animation, photo, digital imagery, illustration, text and conceptual projects are acceptable. Work for the Toronto and Edmonton transit can be produced as a series of 30 or 60 seconds pieces. Work for our network of shopping mall screens can be produced as a series of 15 or 30 seconds pieces. Please note that artwork is screened once every 10 minutes on the TTC and once every 5 minutes on the mall network.

Work for digital billboards can be produced as as series of 6 or 8 second pieces. Some digital billboards support video (8 seconds) and some support still imagery (6 seconds). Please note that artwork is screened about once per minute on digital billboards.

Artists are reminded that their work will exist within the context of a public forum and should reflect an awareness of such an open platform for artistic communication. Depending on the scope of the project, artist fees may be available.

For examples of past programming visit www.artintransit.ca.

Instructions for proposals:

Proposals must include CV/bio plus 5 – 10 examples of past work (jpgs or links).

Proposals can be emailed, shared via dropbox, or sent by mail.

If emailing proposal, email must not be larger than 5MB.

Address your email with the subject heading: Art in Transit PROPOSAL

Its purpose is to encourage contemporary artistic endeavors, to foster experimental cultural development, and to stimulate dialogue within the art community. A forum for dialogue about contemporary art practices is provided through exhibitions, criticism and projects.

Latitude 53 is willing to take risks in its programming and is fully prepared to support experimental ideas. Through the presentation of content-oriented art, our programs generate dialogue, political debate, and large-scale public awareness and discussion. Through proactive programming, which combines ongoing selections with a standard submission process that can remain flexible and responsive to current events in our community and elsewhere, we feel we can serve our community by providing more interesting, radical and provoking exhibitions.

Latitude 53 has a non-discriminatory exhibition policy and pays full artist fees in agreement with the CARFAC Schedule.

eva International

12 April–6 July 2014

Open Call for Proposals

Deadline: Monday 2 September 2013

www.opencall.eva.ie

Curated by Bassam El Baroni

eva International, Ireland’s biennial of contemporary art, is pleased to launch the international open call for proposals for the 2014 edition, curated by Bassam El Baroni. Applications are invited from individual artists or groups in any medium and can be for the presentation of existing works or production of new projects. The online application process is now open and closes at 5pm on Monday 2 September 2013. Please see opencall.eva.ie or contact info [arobas] eva [point] ie for further information.

Commenting on the curatorial approach for eva International 2014, El Baroni said:
“I would like the 36th eva International 2014 to be reflective of the many complex questions that the current heightened global political moment raises. Are we witnessing the continuing dominance of old political narratives? While these old narratives may be slowly showing signs of cracking, what are the obstacles facing the emergence of new narratives? Rather than being any kind of curatorial concept, this statement is intended solely as a hint at a direction that will evolve and nuance as the project develops. »

Nodar Rural Art Lab

Open call for sound and intermedia art projects

PATHS OF RURAL MOBILITY
Artist Residency Program in Sound and Intermedia Arts for 2014
Montemuro, Arada and Gralheira Mountain Ranges (Portugal)
April and October 2014

An organization of Binaural/Nodar (São Pedro do Sul, Portugal)
In partnership with Audiolab.org (Basque Country, Spain) and Tramontana Network of Memory Archives from Southern Europe

[Call for creative projects open until 31 October 2013]

1. Creative proposal

Rural societies as the mountain ranges around Nodar (central Portugal) are usually understood as still being anchored in a sense of rootedness, of deep connection between communities and their landscapes of reference, in which mobility is essentially seen as being forced by extreme circumstances, as an exit from the natural flow of life (eg, emigration or military draft).

However, if one attentively analyses to the social history of these communities, we find a whole series of movement impulses since ancient times, and were probably the limitations of routes and transportation that made the radius of action more limited than the desired or needed.

On the other hand, the rapid social change of Portugal in recent decades stimulated an increase in the pace and range of geographical mobility, and people with life experiences abroad or even born elsewhere are now common in rural villages.

Binaural/Nodar’s artist resdiency program in sound and intermedia arts for 2014 will specifically focus on the ancestral and contemporary aspects of mobility in the rural areas of Montemuro, Arada and Gralheira mountains trying, by hosting artists’ field work together with communities and landscapes and innovative uses of audiovisual technologies, and interactive communication, to contribute to the debate on the new directions of rural mobility.

Below are the types of rural mobility which should be selected by each proposal (a typology for each proposal):

Commercial Mobilities: food pedestrian vendors, cattle and goats vendors, ore traders during the XX World War, traditional itinerant services (animal killers, animal castrators, blacksmiths, carpenters, basket weavers, coopers, clog makers, etc.), modern international transport drivers (TIR), smuggling, itinerant minivans selling grocery, bakery, greens and fruit, fish, etc.
Farming Mobilities: the mobility of farmers employed both within the region and to other regions, etc.. The cyclic mobility depending on the seasons and their agricultural activities.
Shepherding mobilities: the paths of transhumance, the daily mobility of shephers, etc.
Religious Mobilities: pilgrimages (to both local sites and to Fatima), promises, processions, sacred routes, etc.
Leisure Mobilities: the roaming of musicians and people from villages to traditional dance and music parties, etc., New ways of leisure and rural as weekend or vacation.
Social mobilities: Marriage, military service, war, school, university, seminary, emigration and immigration (Lisbon, Porto, France, Switzerland, Brazil, etc..). Departure and return. Traveled paths, crossing borders, etc.

2. Application

a) In the selection process the following types of artistic works will be privileged: Electroacoustic / vocal / sound art compositions; Permanent or ephemeral sound sculptures; Radio works; Free improvisation and performance works for/from the local religious phonosphere.

b) The artistic creation labs will be developed in two phases, in April and October 2014 (each artist will develop his/her project during three weeks in only one of the mentioned periods).

3. About Binaural/Nodar

Binaural – Associação Cultural de Nodar (BINAURAL/NODAR) is a Portuguese non-profit Cultural Organization founded in 2004 with the aim of promoting the exploration and research in sound and media cultures, focusing on the crossing of media and languages and on the articulation between creative production, academic research in social and environmental sciences and the surrounding rural context of Gralheira mountain range (Dão/Lafões Sub-Region, Portugal), where the organization develops most of its activities.

BINAURAL/NODAR holds creation, production, promotion, research, documentation and teaching activities with the objective of establishing itself as a platform for experimentation and sharing of theoretical and methodological thought in the fields of technology, artistic practice and sound/visual anthropological documentation of rural areas.

BINAURAL/NODAR is managed by an international team of social researchers, cultural managers, artists and curators (with more than 10 years of activity). The board of directors is comprised of three persons with deep roots and/or living for many years in the rural area of Gralheira Mountain Range.

Underlying to the activities of the BINAURAL/NODAR is the concern of establishing connections between sound / visual arts and the anthropological and geographical environment, by supporting documentation projects, artist residencies and public events directed to diversified audiences and that deal with its capacity for generating meanings and building identity and memory.

Since March 2006, over 100 international sound and media artists and social scientists developed projects in the area in close connection with the region’s communities. Issues such as collective memory, identity, gender and age, life and death, geography, topography, music, sound heritage, landscape, vegetation, water and fire, consumption and leisure dynamics, myths and traditions, crafts, agriculture and shepherding, were used as a thematic background for many of the works produced there.

Throughout the year, the organization programs various scientific and creative residency modules in order to stimulate a collaborative environment between artists and researchers from different fields and geographic origins. During the course of the residencies several parallel activities are organized, such as conferences, lectures and educational activities (namely youth-oriented). At the end of each residency module there is a public presentation organized in the village, in which the different projects are presented and discussed by the authors and the organization.

Nodar Rural Lab is the technological, logistical and curatorial platform by which the development of projects is carried out, by means of audiovisual technologies and languages and permanent dialogue with the various elements that shape the region. Many of the projects held at Nodar Rural Lab are of an interdisciplinary nature, i.e. crossing different artistic, scientific and traditional practices, often cancelling its borders in order to seek for a hybrid sense that can amplify their expressive and functional possibilities.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
2013-2014 SHARON WOLFE ARTIST RESIDENCY

The Sharon Wolfe Artist In Residence program is intended to allow a disability-identified artist to undertake a project that advances their own artistic goals and practice, and which has the potential to benefit the wider community of artists with disabilities.

For the last 10 ten years, AAF has been presenting and promoting the work of exceptionally talented artists across the entire spectrum of disciplines. The Sharon Wolfe Artist In Residence program allows us to take this mandate a step further. Few artists have the luxury of devoting themselves completely to their practice; the vast majority must subsidize their work by juggling one or more paid positions. While funding poses a significant challenge for all artists, people with disabilities encounter a host of additional accessibility obstacles.

Named in honour of the organization’s founding Artistic Director Sharon Wolfe, the SWA Residency is intended to offer the resident artist an opportunity to devote themselves to a specific program of work, while simultaneously contributing to a larger dialogue and sense of engagement with the wider community of disability artists in Toronto.

The SWA Residency will provide the artist with a $5000 stipend, as well as access to a small studio space at the prestigious 401 Richmond building for up to two months between October 2013 and June 2014.

Eligibility:

The SWA Residency is intended to benefit artists who have completed basic education or training in their discipline and can demonstrate a history of professional practice and exposure.

The residency is open to Canadian citizens or landed immigrants. Artists need not be residents of Toronto, but must be prepared to spend at least one month of their residency in Toronto at their own expense. For artists outside of Toronto, Abilities Arts Festival would provide all possible assistance in locating appropriate, accessible accommodations in the city.

Applications must include:

  • A professional CV;
  • A 2-3 page (max) description of the intended project, indicating the connection to the artists work and potential benefit to the larger community;
  • A schedule and timeline for the project;
  • A budget indicating how the funds would be spent (ie. subsistence; materials; equipment; accommodation; presentation).
  • Applicants are encouraged to include support materials documenting their work.

Applications will be assessed on the basis of:

  • Artistic merit;
  • Relevance to the applicant’s professional advancement;
  • The viability of the proposed program and budget; and
  • Overall value to the field of disability arts and community at large.

Applications will be accepted between July 30 and August 30, 2013.

Completed applications can be sent by mail to:

Suite S-30, 401 Richmond Street West

U of Art Jackson Court Project

Realizing that constant cultural awareness and institutional identity is promoted through visually unique and supportive surroundings, this call for proposals is the first step in one attempt to create a more art-conscious environment on the River Campus.  Creativity and innovation are nurtured and promoted through every aspect of campus life at the University of Rochester. With a mission to “Learn, Discover, Heal, Create – and make the World Ever Better,” academic experiences at theU of R are on a very personal scale. We seek a public artwork that is conscious of its surroundings and environment and their histories. We want the sculpture to be in keeping with the artist’s point of view while still connecting to the university’s mission.

The north end of River Campus is a pedestrian and commuter gateway for the Rochester community. The selected work will be installed at the intersection of several heavily trafficked walkways adjacent Jackson Court. Depending on the scale of the selected work, it could potentially be seen at a distance from the stadium or even the trail along the Genesee River. Stronger proposals will consider the many vantage points of the site and engage the frequent users of the walkways. Artists’ responses may propose sculptural element(s), single/multiple pieces, and/or any other tangible and durable artistic interventions. Initial applications are due August 19th, 2013. A maximum of $60,000 will be awarded.

Atelier Topaz – résidence
Opasatika, Ontario, Canada

BICYCLE RACK DESIGN CRITERIA

In keeping with the best practices for bicycle rack design and functionality as defined in the Association of Pedestrian & Bicycle Professional (APBP) Bicycle Parking Guidelines Edition 1 (https://apbp.site-ym.com/?page=Publications) and the Town of Snowmass Village standards, artists should be aware of the following guidelines for Bicycle rack designs.

Rugged construction for public use is an absolute requirement. Please design for children and community members of all ages and abilities. Ideally, natural aging should increase the positive qualities of your submission and maintenance should be minimal-if at all. Hardiness and longevity of the submission should be built into its design. Proven local materials are preferred. Consider the environment in your approach. Please think of the following directives: No dangerous or sharp edges. Nothing that can be broken by hand. No easily removable connections that possibly invite tampering. Consider fire and lightning safety. Think local!

• The Town of Snowmass Village will install all racks per the artist specifications. Contact points (to the ground) must be secured by no less than two connecting points.

les nouvelles propositions identitaires des artistes acadiens ;
les innovations formelles des artistes acadiens ;
la diversité interne des disciplines artistiques (la diversité des inspirations et influences, la spécialisation en sous-disciplines ou sous-genres, etc.) ; l’interdisciplinarité des pratiques artistiques ou le dialogue entre les disciplines ;
le rapport à l’altérité dans la production littéraire et artistique actuelle en Acadie ;
la représentation du folklore et du mythe de l’origine : réinvestissement symbolique dans le contexte mondialisé ;
les comparaisons entre les productions artistiques acadiennes et d’ailleurs ;
les pratiques artistiques acadiennes dans le contexte de la francophonie canadienne ou de la francophonie internationale ;
le statut de l’artiste professionnel dans les petites cultures contemporaines ;
l’engagement de l’artiste dans la sphère publique ;
les enjeux actuels et les défis à venir des institutions et industries culturelles en Acadie ;
l’enseignement et la diffusion des arts et de la littérature en Acadie ;
