Appel à projets : Missing Pages [Pages manquantes]

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: MOUNT PLEASANT COMMUNITY ART SCREEN

Through the inaugural year of the Mount Pleasant Community Art Screen, the
curatorial vision has been centralized on the broader theme of PLACE; largely as place
in its literal geographical perimeters on the stolen, unceded territories of the
Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations, as a part of one of so-called
Vancouvers earliest neighbourhoods. However, this theme has also evolved to
encompass a continuing community and network of makers holding deep knowledge of
the areas histories, holding visions of the future, and holding ground as the landscape
rapidly shifts in the Mount
Pleasant neighbourhood.

The MPCAS will continue to honour its initial framing of PLACE; as a community
screen we are beholden to how we are on the land and how we wish to reflect the
communities we envision this screen to be for. In this continuing work, we also invite
and encourage submissions which speak towards the ambiguity of place–of
displacement, diaspora, digital and contested space, as well as artists whose work has
been inextricably shaped by their time in the communities of this PLACE.

We accept a wide variety of media works and formats to a maximum of 10 minutes,
including video, film, animation, gif and photography. The MPCAS is programmed by
grunt gallery.

Details and submission forms can be found here: https://www.mpcas.ca/participate/

Deadline for MPCAS submissions: June 11th, 2021.

The Emerging Digital Artists Award (EDAA) is pleased to announce the 2021 Call for Applications is now open.

The EDAA is Canada’s major award for critical experimentation in digital media, co-presented by EQ Bank and Trinity Square Video. The 2021 edition launches with guest judges Cat Bluemke, Ashley Jane Lewis, and Suzanne Morrissette, a new visual identity by featured artist Khadija Aziz, and a prize structure that recognizes early-career digital artists for their exceptional work more than ever before.

Launched in 2015, the EDAA was established to celebrate early-career media artists working actively and creatively with digital technologies, awarding a single grand prize and four finalist prizes each year. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 EDAA shifted its structure by increasing the prize amount in lieu of an in-person award ceremony, awarding all five finalists a grand prize. The 2021 EDAA will continue to award five grand prizes, with other additional prize offerings detailed below.

For the 2021 EDAA:

Five artists will each be awarded a $5,000 prize;
Their award-winning works will be featured in a group exhibition at Trinity Square Video, as well as online, September 10-October 2, 2021
Each artist will receive a one-year Production Membership to Trinity Square Video; and
One of the five artists will earn a dedicated spot in Trinity Square Video’s 2022 Themed Commission residency program
Artists within the first five years of their professional careers are encouraged to apply. We welcome submissions of screen-based works that are not only created with digital technologies, but also speak to the concerns, ethics, and constructs of digital space. Artwork submissions may include, but are not limited to: images, videos, animations, GIFs, websites, games, applications, and immersive technologies.

To submit your work for consideration, follow these steps:

Read full details on How to Apply, and don’t skip out on the Terms and Conditions

NSCAD University

Location: Nova Scotia
Date posted: 2021-05-19
Advertised until: 2021-06-18

NSCAD University gratefully acknowledges its place in Mi’kma’ki, on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq Nation. The University is a beacon to those who seek to know the world as it is and to create what it might be. As one of Canada’s oldest independent cultural institutions – shaping art, design and craft since 1887 – it is a community informed by the past, engaged in the present and looking to the future, all with the intention of making a positive impact in our ever-changing world. Today, NSCAD is seeking a President to lead this storied institution into its next chapter.

Also known as the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, NSCAD has long been first to introduce programs and ways of approaching art-making that continue to shape artists, designers and craftspeople in Canada and internationally. It is a small institution with a deep commitment to arts, culture and community engagement. Undergraduate and graduate students thrive in an environment rich in studio and critical studies – an environment that encourages what it means to be an artist, a curator, a researcher. Through active inquiry, members of the NSCAD community identify, define and approach the complexities of our world to challenge conventional thinking. This immersive, rigorous and supportive academic community celebrates the creative contributions of all its members.

At a pivotal point in NSCAD’s history, the next presidential term will see the University lay the foundations through strategic planning and facilities renewal to respond to an important question: How does art school make positive contributions to society through art, craft and design? The next President will lead NSCAD in its pursuit of excellence in teaching, artistic creation, research and service to the broader community. They will create a collegial atmosphere that promotes transparency, integrity and the highest standard of ethical behaviour. While highly effective in managing the institution’s operations, they will also be an ambassador and the external face of NSCAD and lead initiatives to engage with artistic and research partners, government, donors, industry, media, and the community more broadly. They will advance NSCAD’s reputation and profile.

Reporting to the Board of Governors, the successful candidate will be able to evidence significant strategic leadership and the ability to create a shared vision and strategic plan within a complex organization and governance structure. They will have financial acumen as well as experience and strength in team building, fundraising and project management, particularly in leading large building projects. They will have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to inspire and build positive relationships with students, full and part-time faculty, staff, administrative leaders and the Board of Governors. As such, experience dealing with multiple stakeholders and an ability to represent NSCAD at every level are critical to success.

It is important that the next President has a deep understanding, appreciation and commitment to fine art, craft and design with a studio-based practice or academic portfolio in a discipline relevant to NSCAD. A doctorate or equivalent terminal degree and a solid understanding of provincial, national and international post-secondary education landscapes are essential.

Of critical importance, the next President must be passionate about and committed to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), anti-racism and decolonization. They should demonstrate a track record of success in moving forward these agendas in meaningful and impactful ways. They should be able to point to success in building inclusive communities of diverse faculty, students and staff in which people feel welcome and respected. They will need a clear commitment to, and ideally also have experience in, indigenization, decolonization, and truth and reconciliation.

An executive search is being undertaken by NSCAD’s search partner, Perrett Laver. Perrett Laver will support the University in identifying a diverse field of qualified candidates and in the assessment of candidates against the selection criteria. Applications should consist of a full curriculum vitae and cover letter that explains how the candidate meets the selection criteria listed in the appointment details, which can be found at www.perrettlaver.com/candidates quoting reference number 5080. Interested candidates are asked to submit applications by Friday, June 18th, 2021.

NSCAD regards equity and diversity as an integral part of academic excellence and is committed to accessibility for all employees. As such, the University encourages applications from women, persons with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, members of visible minorities, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. At NSCAD, you will have the opportunity to work across disciplines and collaborate with an international community of scholars and a diverse student body, situated in a rapidly growing city that has been termed a “hub of innovation.” All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian and permanent residents will be given priority.

Appels de propositions | Date de tombée : 14 juillet 2021

No 265 : Dossier « Matières textiles »

No 264 : Rubriques récurrentes non-thématiques

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Performance Research Vol. 27, No. 3: ‘On Solidarity’
Deadline date: July 14, 2021; Location: the world; Source: Performance Research

Among activist practices that seek social, political, economic or environmental change, the arts increasingly play a considerable role by crossing into areas of civic engagement, with artists seeking to enact solidarity through their work (Lichtenfels and Rouse, 2013). The COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath, having amplified social division, present a pivotal moment to investigate the nature of solidarity in performance and its agency in contemporary life.

READ the full text for the call for submissions HERE.

The aim of this special issue of Performance Research is to trace and critically reflect on practices of solidarity that emerge from and relate to the field of performance practice, exploring the ways that performance can intervene in or engage with civic action. We are particularly interested in interrogating how solidarity practices in performance participate in the construction of social justice arguments.

We invite contributions that consider the role and potential of solidarity as a relational quality to interrogate social relationships in performance and address the following questions: What creative methods and modes of solidarity practices are actioned in and through performance practice? Can performance practice offer specific models for organising solidarity to wider civil society? What forms of solidarity are practised in and through contemporary performance and what social justice arguments do they make? What are the challenges faced by a contemporary performance sector that is concerned with exercising solidarity, as well as in need of solidarity? What historical examples of solidarity practices in and through performance bear contemporary relevance?

Contributors may wish to draw on the following list of topics as a source of inspiration, although the list is not intended to be exhaustive or restrictive:
Diverse approaches to practising solidarity and performance
Solidarity and allyship
Solidarity and self-organization
Antagonism, dissent, indifference
Participatory performance, ethics and hierarchical relations
Solidarity, activism and the body (embodied democracy)
Solidarity economy and dominating capitalist currencies in performance
Migration and the potential to reconfigure solidarity
Privileges and resistances
Networks of solidarity between different social contexts
Solidarity and education
Performing solidarity during and after COVID-19
Expressions of solidarity for the arts and performance in critical times
Solidarity justice

We are interested in a range of approaches to the topic that foreground the intersection of practice and research, including artists’ contributions that combine words and images, as well as more conventional articles. In particular, we welcome submissions that share perspectives from people from Global Majority backgrounds, disabled and LGBTQ2+ people

Schedule:
Proposals: 14 July 2021
First drafts: 15 October 2021
Final drafts: January 2022
Publication: May 2022

–       Soutien à la gestion financière et logistique et à la promotion de la programmation;

–       Hébergement et coordination de l’accueil des artistes;

–       Documentation photographique des projets;
