APERÇU DU PROJET
La Maison des artistes visuels invite les artistes professionnels canadiens à présenter des propositions pour trois nouvelles sculptures qui s’ajouteront au Jardin de sculptures dont l’élaboration a commencé en 2009 et qui est une initiative de La Maison des artistes visuels, située à Saint-Boniface, au Manitoba. Le Jardin comprend déjà des œuvres des artistes suivants : Michel de Broin (2009), Marcel Gosselin (2009), Madeleine Vrignon (2010), Joseph (Joe) Fafard (2011).

DATE LIMITE
Les dossiers de proposition complets doivent parvenir au plus tard  Nouvelle date  le 9 septembre 2011 à 16 h (date limite de réception, et non date du cachet de la poste).

Parc écologique du millénaire
Le Parc écologique n’est pas un îlot de verdure en milieu urbain comme les autres. Inauguré en 2000, il a pour mission d’être un outil d’éducation à l’environnement invitant tous et toutes à des actions et engagements réels et réfléchis pour inverser la crise écologique contemporaine. Il héberge plus de 600 arbres/arbustes indigènes. On y retrouve des sentiers, un pavillon, un étang et un ruisseau, et ce, en bordure de l’Université de Moncton, d’un quartier résidentiel et de l’autoroute Wheeler.

Symposium d’art/nature : énergie
Le comité organisateur prépare la tenue d’un Symposium d’art/nature du 28 septembre au 7 octobre 2012 à Moncton. Avec comme thème l’énergie, l’évènement se déroulera principalement au Parc écologique du millénaire, avec des incursions ailleurs dans la ville. Le parc et la ville deviendront pendant dix jours des laboratoires de création et d’intervention in situ, et seront hôtes d’ateliers et de conférences.

L’énergie désigne le moteur de l’organisation de notre société (alimentation, transport, construction immobilière, développement urbain), le prétexte principal pour toute action (développement technique, exploration et extraction des ressources naturelles, pollution de la nature) et le transfert de capacité d’une entité à l’autre (entre êtres humains et avec l’environnement naturel et construit).

Soumission de projets au plus tard le 12 août 2011
Nous invitons les artistes qui ont une démarche artistique in situ à proposer un dossier/portfolio au plus tard le 12 août 2011. Toutes les pratiques sont éligibles, mais un intérêt particulier sera accordé à la sculpture. Le comité s’intéresse aux projets artistiques non-permanents.

Votre dossier doit comprendre :
• une lettre de présentation avec coordonnées complètes;
• un texte décrivant une intention de recherche (max 200 mots) (.doc, .pdf);
• un curriculum vitæ (.doc, .pdf);
• une documentation succincte permettant un aperçu de votre travail: dix à vingt images numériques (max. 2 Mo total) accompagnées d’une courte description (liste en .doc, .pdf), une bande audio/vidéo (max. 5 min placée sur un service de vidéo sur internet) et tout document pertinent;
• un dossier de presse (si disponible) (.doc, .pdf).

Centre des arts actuels Skol

APPEL DE DOSSIERS
Sortons les archives!

Pour célébrer son 27e anniversaire*, Skol invite les professionnels en art à proposer des interventions basées sur ses archives nouvellement traitées. L’approche et la forme de ces interventions donneront lieu à autant d’interprétations permettant de nuancer le passé de Skol, et même d’agir sur ce qui est encore à venir. Nous encourageons le regard transversal, sensible aux fissures et aux interstices, permettant de complexifier la perception d’un passé linéaire homogène.
Afin de faciliter ces interventions, Skol offre un espace de recherche, de même que l’assistance ponctuelle de l’archiviste Denis Lessard. Les propositions retenues seront présentées dans le cadre de la programmation de Skol, en novembre-décembre 2011.
On se rappelle qu’à l’été 2009, Skol accueillait le Bureau d’investigation des archives BIA/OAR, un premier projet d’investigation des archives motivé par un engouement pour l’histoire de l’émergence des centres d’artistes. Présentement, l’artiste et archiviste Denis Lessard occupe la petite salle de Skol jusqu’en août 2011 pour effectuer le traitement des archives historiques du Centre, traitement qui facilitera la consultation, et permettra de nouvelles explorations.

APPEL À PROJETS D’EXPOSITION HIVER 2012
Pour les expositions de janvier à juin
Les Territoires est une galerie à but non lucratif qui accueille des expositions
d’artistes et de commissaires émergents. Les Territoires, par le biais de ses expositions, projets et évènements, se veut le reflet d’une pratique artistique multidisciplinaire et se positionne comme un lieu de diffusion et d’échanges. Les Territoires est située au 5e étage de l’Édifice Belgo à Montréal. La galerie accepte maintenant les propositions de projets d’exposition pour l’hiver 2012.

Artistes éligibles : moins de 6 années de pratique professionnelle

Le programme d’exposition inclus :
– une exposition
– des actions de communications des expositions (un communiqué de presse, une infolettre annonçant l’exposition à nos abonnés et une diffusion internationale via le web);
– une discussion avec la coordonnatrice générale afin de préparer le montage et le commissariat de l’exposition;
– une mise en contact de l’artiste avec des professionnels du milieu des arts (galeristes, commissaires, professeurs, etc.);
– une rencontre afin d’évaluer avec l’artiste la valeur marchande de ses œuvres et son positionnement dans le marché de l’art;
– une rencontre afin de discuter des stratégies de développement de carrière avec la coordonnatrice générale de la galerie;
– une immersion dans le monde du marché de l’art avec les oeuvres en vente dans la galerie : l’artiste touche 100 % des ventes;
– une page permanente sur notre site internet;
– une programmation de conférences données par les artistes exposants si souhaitée.

Le coût du programme d’exposition est de 1 500 $ CA TTC.
Il est également possible de participer au programme en n’exposant que
dans l’une des deux salles d’exposition. Le programme est alors de :

Dans le cadre du Volet arts médiatiques du Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie (FICFA), nous invitons les artistes en arts médiatiques à soumettre des propositions d’expositions et d’installations, de performances et d’oeuvres vidéos. TRUCK Contemporary Art Gallery (Calgary): Call to Visual Artists, Deadline September 1
MAIN SPACE CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
DEADLINE: September 1

TRUCK’s Main Space is programmed through an annual call for submissions as well as by curated exhibitions. TRUCK hosts eight exhibitions each year in this space and accepts applications from professional artists only. TRUCK’s definition of a professional artist is someone who has:

Completed his/her basic training (or the equivalent)
Produced an independent body of work
Presented their work in a professional context
Maintained an independent professional practice for at least one year.
Undergraduate students currently enrolled in school, college or university are not eligible to apply, however this restriction only applies to our Main Space and students are welcome to apply to our +15 Window and CAMPER spaces. Graduate students are eligible only if they meet TRUCK Gallery’s definition of a professional artist.

Selection Procedure:
The TRUCK Programming Committee selects proposals through a peer review process. The Committee is comprised of board members who have extensive visual, performance, and media art backgrounds. Proposals will be selected based on consideration of the following criteria: artistic merit of the proposed project, fit with TRUCK Gallery’s mandate, feasibility of the proposed budget, and the ability of TRUCK Gallery to provide appropriate space/support for the project. TRUCK is committed to paying a minimum of CARFAC fees, and when possible provides travel support for our exhibiting artists. Unfortunately TRUCK has limited resources and is unable to consider projects that require production support. We will endeavor to provide what assistance where we can for the presentation and exhibition of work, but operate within our meager resources.

Submission Procedure:
TRUCK accepts submissions in ELECTRONIC FORMAT ONLY. Please send all written support in a SINGLE PDF FILE. Images must be in JPEG FORMAT burned to a single CD, all files must be Mac compatible. Please do not send any paper documents, printed images, or return envelopes as submissions will not be returned. Please do not e-mail submissions.

ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

1. A completed application form (available for download at http://www.truck.ca)

2. Proposal (maximum of 1 pages): Clearly describe the proposed exhibition or project. Provide details about your spatial, and material requirements, including equipment needs. Explain what kind of venue is best suited to your proposed work (gallery, theatre, off-site, public space, etc.).

3. Artist Statement (maximum of 1 page): Contextualizes the work submitted within your artistic practice.

4. Curriculum Vitae (maximum of 3 pages): Describe your artistic background (e.g. education, grants, scholarships or awards received, professional status, previous exhibitions or performances, commissions, professional memberships, articles, etc.)

5. Images/Support Material: 10 to 15 JPEG images and/or DVD for video. All images must be numbered and labeled to match the corresponding image list. Images must be in JPEG format and no larger than 1MB in size.

7. Budget: For curatorial projects, touring exhibitions, and proposals for group exhibitions please provide a clear budget of anticipated expenses and related fees for the exhibitions.

Through procreation, through knowledge and belief systems and the creation of works of art and architecture, we have tried to create that which can withstand the confines of time. One might say we have striven to achieve a measure of immortality.
But, does time actually exist, or is it merely an invention we use to measure change? As Zoomers and Artists, what are we creating that might survive the ebb and flow of time?

•    A Curriculum Vitae and contact information which much include name, address, phone number, and e-mail; include as Word file (.doc) on CD as well as a hard copy on paper.

The Living Arts Centre invites artists to submit works for Saving Face, an exhibition about contemporary portraiture in Canada and its relevance today.

Portraiture is constantly reinventing itself. Within the expanding boundaries of art media, countless functions for reproducing human likeness exist – preservation, the deconstruction of identity, homage, etc. Yet despite this expansion, portraiture is often associated with tradition. Saving Face asks artists to re-evaluate the portrait within a contemporary framework. Drawing from the history of the genre and integrating media both old and new, the exhibition will identify contemporary Canadian portraiture and reveal new trends in its practice.

Artists working in all media are encouraged to submit up to two works for consideration. There are no restrictions on size. Cash prizes will be awarded.

New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme FREEDOM for consideration in New Adventures in Sound Art’s 2012 programming in Toronto, Canada. Using the theme of FREEDOM for its 2012 programming, NAISA will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of John Cage, an artist that challenged established artistic conventions in many fields. He also helped to broaden the already evolving language of sonic expression to include the existence of sound within the realm of art.

Preference in programming will be given to works that respond in some way to the theme of FREEDOM. Individual interpretations or variations on the theme are encouraged, but should be realized with sound as the primary component. NAISA would also like to encourage artists to submit works for live performance, gallery exhibit, screening, webcast or audio stream, radio broadcast, network or translocal performance, mobile experiences and any other emerging formats that include sound as a primary element. The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery is calling for submissions to The Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics and The RBC Award for Glass.

With the ongoing generosity of Ms. Winifred Shantz and the RBC Foundation, the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery presents these prestigious national awards for early-career practicing ceramic and glass artists who have been working professionally for between 3 to 10 years. The awards are intended to allow each winning artist to undertake a period of independent research, or other activities with the capacity to advance their artistic and professional practice at a key moment in his or her career. Winners of the Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics and the RBC Award for Glass will receive $10,000 each.
Juries comprised of respected artists and arts professionals associated with the silica arts will choose a finalist list. This year’s winners will be announced at a gala event on October 13, 2011.
Each of these annual awards presents a monetary prize for innovative professional development to an emerging ceramic or glass artist, allowing the recipients time to travel, to attend international residencies or to conduct research that will enrich experience and fortify career aspirations in the field of contemporary art or fine craft.
To apply to either of these awards, you must be a Canadian citizen or have Permanent Resident status, as defined by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. In May 2012 a remarkable boat will set sail on its maiden voyage. The 30ft yacht, crafted by a fearlessly adventurous team of boat builders, will be a living archive of people’s lives and stories. Its maiden voyage will follow, with the boat visiting five locations at each of which a bespoke festival will be created around its arrival, stay and departure.
We have launched a commission process inviting submissions from artists/companies to propose a version of a ‘ship’s log’ that would both respond to the boat’s unique history, the thousand of lives that came together to create it and its voyage along the south coast of England.
We are interested to hear from artists working in performance, photography, text, sound, screen or digital–based medias.
The selected artist[s] will be onboard as part of the crew throughout the voyage and will create a serial project that has an outcome at each of the five maiden voyage destinations.

Since February 2011 members of the public have been donating their wooden belongings to the project. From the mundane to the extraordinary, donations come in every size and shape: toothpicks, coffee tables, hair-brushes, picture frames, walking sticks and front doors. Each donation has played a part in the life of the donor, each has a story to tell – of personal and national significance.
The boat is constructed from these donations. A book published at the boat’s launch will document each of the individual donations and the stories behind them. A copy of the book will be kept on the boat, as an index to its constituent parts. The boat will be launched in May 2012. Its maiden voyage will follow, with the boat visiting five locations where a bespoke festival will be created around its arrival, stay and departure. The boat’s crew will be made up of members of the public, nominated by family and friends, working under a professional skipper. An artist – selected through this call-out – will also be onboard working on a serial project that has an outcome presented at each of the five maiden voyage destinations: Brighton (as a part of the Brighton Festival), Portsmouth (as part of Portsmouth Festivities), Hastings, Margate and Milton Keynes (as a part of the Milton Keynes International Festival).
We are interested to hear from artists/companies working in performance, photography, text, sound, screen or digital-based medias to propose a version of a ‘ship’s log’ that would both respond to the boat’s unique history, the thousands of lives that came together to create it and its voyage along the south coast of England. The commission will present an outcome in each of the five voyage destinations, so will need to function in series, and will perhaps have an accumulating structure. The shape, form and length of the outcomes are entirely up to you, as is its location and context – although the voyage, the course of the journey and the boat itself need to function as the centre of the work.
Your project may address, though not be limited to, one or more of the following concerns:
• Expedition, adventure and voyaging
• Navigation and wayfinding
• Mythologies of the sea and seafaring
• The sea and leisure
• The sea and commerce
• Ideas of ‘the coast’
• Archives of the everyday, collecting and collections
• The boat’s five ports of call during its maiden voyage
• The boat’s crew
• The Boat Project’s donation archive
The boat is a daysailer and does not offer accommodation; a small cuddy creates something of an internal space. The voyage will run from May to July 2012 with a number of breaks in the schedule where you will be land-based. Artists without sailing experience will be fully trained ahead of the voyage. This callout is international and artists based in all countries are welcome to submit a proposal. The fee for the project, including your material costs, is £8,000. Your travel and accommodation costs will be covered separately.

The Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw, Art and the Present Foundation, Performance Art Foundation and Labirynt Gallery in Lublin invites young emerging performance artists (born after 1st January 1976) to submit proposals of performance art works for the openEPAF 2011 – open programme of the European Performance Art Festival EPAF 2011. The festival will take place from 24-27 November 2011 at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle and from 30th November to 2nd December in Labirynt Gallery in Lublin during Performance Platform Lublin.

EPAF is interested in programming experimental practices that may be described as: Performance Art, Live Art, Time-based art. Note: we are not interested in programming conventional theatre, dance, ballet, music. Applications will be accepted from artists from all areas of the world.

The Simultan Festival is an annual festival for video, media art, experimental music and a/v projects.
The festival wishes to sustain and to stimulate the creative ways of the most modern visions of perceiving and recording the cultural realities in contemporary art. Our thematic call for works is now open! tm.12 postulates that
incompatible beings drive the logic of contemporary cultural
production. We understand in/compatible beings as aesthetic things
and processes that do not necessarily connect on the terms we are
used to.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
The too new and the too old are two sides of the same coin: nothing
ever works perfectly. The simultaneous monumental failure and
global ubiquity of technology seems to move us beyond the polarity
of utopia and dystopia.
Instead we are entering the blurred environments of the unadapted, monstrous and “uncorporated”. These increasingly unclear
tension-states between open and closed, military and civilian,
idealistic and commercial are giving rise to a new kind of
“techno-cultural uneasy”. The in/compatible in this context is a
singular moment where it becomes evident that certain technologies
or models of thought are not possible to use in combination.
Artists, practitioners and thinkers engage this imperfect nature of
technology. They give it a cultural shape, developing a critical
reflexivity that responds to the ever-changing social and
economical terrains of the networked world.
More than a failed operation, incompatibility is a matter of
management and ultimately governance of the inherent differences
and heterogeneity of network culture. This means that the
incompatible is not the outside of networks but it is an internal
and constant state of disruption which is totally necessary in
order to enable the “open” state of the never completed system.
Allowing for incompatibility in other words is central to the
capitalist logic of always being “open to business”, predicated on
the constant integration of new areas of production. But this
integrative process is increasingly invisible to the user and even
the producer – especially the “pro-sumers” and “prod-users” of Web
2.0 or cloud-computing. Contrary to this invisibility the festival
wants to raise the question of what happens when incompatible
beings are brought to the fore rather than hidden away in the dark
underbelly of digital culture?
In the common social imaginary of the global network society and
culture it is increasingly hard to discern that which does not
actually connect, differences that matter beyond being exoticised,
integrated or disarmed through the politics of particularisation.
Only certain points of voluntary or involuntary break-down and
disconnection, involving unfamiliar and strange reversals, allow
some of this heterogeneity of net culture to be re-articulated.
Such reversals may involve going beyond the digital and even the
network as the ultimate horizon of cultural production, exploring
new forms of transversal materiality and temporality.
SUBMIT YOUR WORK
With the conceptual framework of in/compatible we are looking for
artistic works in any genre and format that either explicitly or in
more subtle ways engage the incompatible nature of contemporary
technological cultures. We imagine that these works rather than
anticipating resolution, address, accentuate and invest in the
unresolved tensions across translocal media practices and systems.
In particular we are calling for works that take us by surprise by
not quite “fitting in“.
The selected works will form part of our exhibition as well as of
our screening, performance and conference programme. While there
will be no transmediale Award this year, works may be considered
for the Vilém Flusser Residency Programme, taking the form of a 2
months artistic research residency run by tm and UdK in Berlin.
Works taken into consideration for the programme can be related to
the following keywords and areas:
dissensual aesthetics, hacktivism, operating systems, speculative
realisms, queer technologies, strange ontologies, displacements,
ecologies, psychedelia, glitches, spam, media-archaeologies,
technological obsolescence, haunted media, reverse remediations,
the untimely, erotics, ambivalences, tools, law, anxieties,
confusions, violence, obscurities, junk, addictions, restlessness,
destructions, attractions, accidents, isolation, punk, surrealisms,
aggressiveness, the uncommon, frustrations, spiritualities, risks,
dubious calculations, psychosis, uneven structures, crimes.

of entrants.

Located on 186 acres of farm and forest overlooking the Bay of Fundy, The Ross Creek Centre for the Arts is the ideal artist’s retreat. Our residencies provide tranquil space and time for artists to develop their projects and ideas.  Participants receive 24-hr access to large brightly lit studios, accommodations in our farmhouse, and fresh meals prepared by our chef.

We welcome submissions from emerging and professional artists of all disciplines, including but not limited to individual or collaborative visual artists, curators, dancers, writers, actors, musicians and architects.  In the submission proposal, please make reference to how your project might fit within the context of the Centre and our rural community.  The Centre is a registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and promoting the arts through education and arts development. Selection for our residencies is a juried and competitive process.

Submissions for our fall season (September 1- December 15, 2011) should be postmarked on or before Aug 5th, 2011.  Applicants will be notified by the third week of August.  Residencies last from four weeks to four months.

in the Region in and around Kühlungsborn, Heiligendamm and Bad Doberan

The cultural association “Mecklenburg Inspires” invites artists and creatives from all disciplines to stay and work inspired by the beautiful region of the German Riviera (German Baltic Sea). Artists are accomodated in 3 to 5 star hotels and provided with working space. The art work will then be exhibited or presented in front of an audience and. In the planning of each residency season, the project manager plans with each invited artist a parallel activity, depending on the artists interests and skills. The aim of the parallel activity is to produce an output or impact that will remain with the region or its people after the artist has left. We particularly welcome theme- or site-specific proposals of the artists himself when applying for a residency.

Cet intitulé détourne une célèbre phrase de Jean Zay, qui fut ministre de l’Education « faire rentrer la lumière dans la tête de nos élèves ». Le lycée Jean Zay, par son architecture aérée et lumineuse, illustre parfaitement cette maxime.
Le lycée Jean Zay se situe à Thiers, ville industrielle par excellence. A la fois proche de la montagne du Livradois Forez et de la plaine de la Limagne, le lycée ne passe pas inaperçu avec son architecture des années 1930 et sa couleur blanche. Surplombant la ville, il est cher au cœur des thiernois. La Nat, son surnom, irrigue le terroir industriel qui l’entoure. Il est vrai que l’industrie a toujours été présente qu’elle soit restée aux mains des artisans ou qu’elle se soit ouverte vers des marchés plus vastes. De plus, le lycée comme la ville s’ouvrent à d’autres perspectives mariant la technologie aux savoirs et aux arts. Le lycée Jean Zay affirme l’ambition de devenir un pôle culturel à Thiers avec des partenaires comme le centre d’art contemporain Le Creux de l’Enfer et désire dans cet élan accueillir un artiste en résidence.

La résidence d’artiste au lycée Jean Zay propose un lieu propice à la poursuite de la réflexion artistique du résident. Elle s’adresse à un artiste qui sera amené à :

-utiliser les moyens et les savoir-faire du plateau technique
-rencontrer le public scolaire
-faire découvrir son travail aux élèves et étudiants du lycée
-partager son expérience
-composer un projet à partir de ses réflexions et des questionnements des élèves

Cette offre de résidence concerne en priorité les arts plastiques, nous souhaiterions faire connaître à cette occasion notre région à des artistes venant de l’extérieur.

Appel à candidature : Résidence d’artiste MAAC 2012 (Belgique)

La MAAC, soutenue par la Ville de Bruxelles, la COCOF et la Communauté française de Belgique, propose deux résidences de travail d’une durée de 6 mois pour jeunes artistes plasticiens travaillant dans le domaine de l’art contemporain. Tous les médiums sont acceptés mais les artistes candidats doivent travailler depuis au moins trois ans. Les étudiants ne sont pas éligibles.
La première résidence débutera en janvier 2012 et la deuxième en juillet 2012.

La démarche consiste pour l’artiste en résidence à développer un projet artistique qui se conclura au terme du séjour par une exposition. Il devra également lier sa création à l’atelier qu’il dirigera auprès de publics locaux, prioritairement des enfants de 6 à 12 ans (à raison de 3 x 5 jours) issus des maisons d’enfants de la Ville de Bruxelles. Il donnera également trois visites pour des groupes divers et trois après-midi pédagogiques.

Conditions générales :

Durée : 6 mois

Description du local de travail : Atelier de création MAAC situé au troisième étage de la maison et composé d’un espace individuel ouvert (30m²) et d’un espace individuel fermé (15m²).

Superficie : 45 m2 (eau et électricité à charge de la Ville de Bruxelles)

Conditions financières : L’artiste bénéficiera d’un budget de 2500 € (budget COCOF).

Vous êtes poète, écrivain, musicien, plasticien, sculpteur, dessinateur, vidéaste, photographe… vous voulez vivre une expérience extraordinaire -trois mois de création dans les Terres australes et antarctiques françaises (TAAF), archipel de Kerguelen- entre janvier et mars 2012 ; vous n’avez pas peur de l’éloignement -les Kerguelen sont à deux semaines de mer de l’île de La Réunion, vous ne craignez pas de vivre sans liaison internet, sans téléphone portable, vous êtes en bonne santé physique… Vous vivrez pendant ces trois mois sur la base de Port-aux-Français, aux côtés d’une centaine de  personnes (scientifiques, physiciens, météorologues, militaires…)
A l’issue de ces trois mois de résidence de création et de votre retour à La Réunion, la direction des affaires culturelles-océan Indien (DAC OI) assurera la production/diffusion de votre proposition artistique pour une présentation à Saint-Pierre (siège de l’administration supérieure des TAAF), dans la zone sud ouest de l’océan Indien, en Europe et, si possible, dans le monde. Cette présentation pourra se réaliser dans le cadre de partenariats avec des musées, des galeries, des fondations ou des espaces associatifs d’exposition… A l’issue de cette itinérance, vous aurez naturellement la propriété intellectuelle de votre œuvre. En cas de vente, il vous faudra rétrocéder à la DAC-OI les frais de production engagés.

transmediale Award RIP! For the 2012 festival there will be no general transmediale Award and also no Open Web Award. Instead, we are opting for tight curatorial coherence in the programming as well as more community engagement outside of the festival. Related to these changes we are transforming the Vilém Flusser Theory Award into a Residency Programme for artistic research.
For Vilém Flusser theory and praxis are intrinsically tied to each other. His nomadic thinking was shaped by a philosophy of positions, experimental testing of different ways of thinking and the linking of different disciplines and methodologies played a significant role for him. Not the search for the truth but rather the playing around with the aesthetic constitution of truth characterised his thinking, often developed in dialogue with others. A fundamental principle of his philosophy is the dialogue between the disciplines, points of view and methodologies. Knowledge production as a dialogue between different standpoints, such as between science and art, laboratory and applied research, old and new media, local and global forms of organisation, is therefore the guiding principle for the concept of artistic research, which the Vilém Flusser Residency Programme supports.
In the current times of the crisis of revolutionary movements, artistic research is not only a dialogue between theory and praxis. The work within in-between spaces and moments of transitions is necessary in order to make the complex structures of today’s networked culture comprehensible.
We are calling upon artistic research to actively explore the capabilities and limitations of transdisciplinary and transmedial situations in contemporary culture and thus to understand artistic research as exploring the links between aesthetics, materiality and politics.
The newly organised Vilém Flusser Residency Programme supports projects and activities which are simultaneously conceptual and practice-based. The programme is geared towards the initiation of new research or to the further development of existing projects. This is not a production grant and while a public presentation/event will be expected, there is no pressure to present finished works. Where applicable, the support of publications, exhibitions, interventions and other results of the residency may be negotiated on a project to project basis. Special priority will be given to young and/or emerging artist-researchers.
RESIDENCY
The program starts from April 2012 on as a 2 month work-and research-residency in Berlin. The applicant selected by the jury will have the opportunity to further develop the submitted project during the time of the residency. The program includes:
• travel costs to Berlin
• accomodation costs in Berlin
• stipend of 1000 EUR per month
• studio / workspace in the Flusser Archive at the University of Arts (UDK) in Berlin.
Further details of the project presentation at the transmediale festival and Flusser Archive will be negotiated directly with the applicant.

Création, intégration, vitalité… ensemble vers la réussite
Forum sur les arts et la communauté

L’Association acadienne des artistes de la Nouvelle-Écosse (AAANÉ) et la Fédération culturelle acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse (FéCANE) annoncent avec plaisir la tenue d’un forum sur les arts et la communauté, les 18, 19 et 20 novembre 2011 à Halifax.

Sous le thème « Création, intégration et vitalité… ensemble vers la réussite », l’AAANÉ et la FéCANE saisissent l’occasion pour réunir la communauté lors de ce forum.  Elles souhaitent bâtir des ponts entre les artistes et les organismes communautaires et de maintenir l’union entre ces derniers dans le but de créer des communautés en santé. Grâce à cette collaboration, les participants pourront discuter des meilleures façons d’intégrer les arts à tous les secteurs d’une communauté afin d’en faire un vecteur de développement culturel, touristique et économique.

« Les produits culturels de nos artistes de tous les secteurs  se démarquent par leur qualité, leur originalité ainsi que par  leur authenticité de l’expression acadienne et francophone de la Nouvelle-Écosse. Ce forum devra permettre de forger davantage les réseaux économiques de production et de  promotion. Dans l’optique de promouvoir nos artistes auprès de nouveaux marchés, on encourage la participation de tous nos artistes », souligne Nadine Belliveau, présidente de l’AAANÉ. Selon Martin Théberge, directeur général de la FéCANE, « il est primordial que le secteur communautaire soit plus à l’affut des actions du secteur artistique et vice versa. De cette manière, les intervenants des deux milieux seront plus aptes à travailler ensemble vers le développement culturel communautaire de nos communautés et d’assurer la croissance de ses secteurs d’activités. »

Les membres de la FéCANE, de l’AAANÉ et le grand public intéressés à en apprendre plus sur les arts et la communauté d’expression française en Nouvelle-Écosse sont les bienvenus à participer.  Les discussions et ateliers de formation seront accompagnés présentations artistiques.  Le forum permettra non seulement de favoriser le réseautage entre les participants, c’est aussi une occasion unique de développer des partenariats et des collaborations favorisant le développement culturel et économique de nos communautés à travers une présence accrue des arts.
