L’Association des groupes en arts visuels francophones (AGAVF) présente les événements de ses quinze centres d’artistes et galeries membres à travers le pays et compile les appels de dossiers en arts visuels, arts médiatiques, performance, art public qui s’adressent principalement aux artistes et parfois aux commissaires.

Thème : TARA DA-DA
On ne peut comprendre Da-Da. Il faut en faire l’expérience.

Richard Huelsenbeck, poète allemand, 1920

Le monde célèbre, en 2016, le centenaire du plus grand mouvement intellectuel et littéraire du siècle dernier. Un mouvement artistique avant-gardiste qui devint éventuellement le précurseur de l’art numérique.

En février 1916, en réaction à l’austérité du premier conflit mondial, le poète Hugo Ball et sa compagne inaugurent, dans le vieux Zurich, le Cabaret Voltaire. Rapidement, une poignée de fous et d’illuminés se joignent à eux. Leur euphorie donne naissance au matin de tous les possibles : un phénomène culturel et contre révolutionnaire qui fut appelé Dada.

D’entrée de jeu, le déroutant Dada, gonflé d’enthousiasme et d’absurdité, a soufflé sur les arts comme un vent nouveau. Il a su rallier la poésie, le théâtre, la danse et les arts visuels. Cosmopolite, Dada s’étend de Zurich à Paris, à New-York et ailleurs. Les dadaïstes se libèrent des conventions et à la suite de Picasso et Braque ils réinventent, entre autres propositions, la composition picturale.

Le principe du hasard et l’octroi d’une nouvelle signification aux objets trouvés guide leur démarche. Le ready-made – objets de fabrication commerciale exposés dans un contexte muséal – le collage et le photomontage font leur arrivée.

Voix Visuelle propose aux artistes participant à l’Exposition internationale d’estampes numériques miniatures 11 de travailler dans l’esprit de Dada, de s’imprégner de ce moment riche et déjanté de l’histoire de l’art moderne. De se familiariser avec cette période de liberté. De visiter les formes élégantes et incongrues de la sculpture, des costumes de danse et de théâtre Dada. De lire ou entendre un exemple de sa cacophonique poésie sonore et de s’inspirer de la liberté, et des jeux des dadaïstes.

Et de se rappeler que les temps sont merveilleux.

CONDITIONS GÉNÉRALES
L’exposition est ouverte aux artistes professionnels de tous les pays sur le thème « TARA DA-DA». Ce thème a été choisi par la commissaire Marie Hélène Giguère et est développé dans le texte ci-dessus.

Les conditions de participation sont expliquées dans la FAQ qui suit. Veuillez noter que ces conditions ont été modifiées par rapport aux années précédentes.
Les estampes soumises doivent être accompagnées d’une fiche d’identification (voir la page 3 du formulaire de participation) indiquant :
• le nom et le prénom de l’artiste;
• son pays de résidence;
• le titre de l’estampe;
• son année de création.
Les estampes doivent être reçues par les organisateurs au plus tard le 15 juillet 2016.

ENVOI DES ESTAMPES
Tout envoi doit contenir les quatre éléments suivants :

Le formulaire d’inscription dument complété sur papier;
Une fiche d’identification pour chaque estampe soumise dument complétée sur papier et fixée à l’arrière de l’œuvre;
Les estampes elles-mêmes;
Un cd comprenant :
1. Une version numérique des estampes d’une résolution de 300 ppp, en format JPEG de qualité supérieure;
2. Le formulaire d’inscription rempli, y compris les fiches d’identification.
3. La fiche d’identification pour chaque estampe soumise.

POSTE AUDIO
Date limite : 1er août 2016
Depuis plus d’une décennie, le Centre CLARK accorde une place à l’art audio dans sa programmation annuelle. Ainsi, le Centre invite les artistes, collectifs et commissaires à soumettre des propositions sonores pour le volet «poste audio». Les propositions peuvent être adaptées à notre poste d’écoute (situé à l’entrée de CLARK) ou dépasser les paramètres de ce dispositif. Les modes de présentation divers sont bienvenus : espace «cabane», dispositif personnel, interventions extérieures, parcours, infiltration urbaine, etc. Le comité est ouvert à recevoir toutes formes de pratiques audios (expérimentales, électroacoustiques, radiophoniques, spoken word, improvisation, etc.). Quoiqu’ouvert à la performance musicale, le comité de sélection audio désire recevoir des projets de durée qui suivront l’horaire des expositions présentées en galerie.

CLARK offre un cachet de 250$ pour la diffusion du travail. Nous offrons aussi une aide au montage et, si nécessaire au projet, des heures d’utilisation de l’Atelier CLARK pour la fabrication de dispositif de présentation en bois.

Toute personne voulant soumettre un dossier doit envoyer les éléments suivants :
– une courte description du projet (environ 150 mots)
– au minimum, un des trois éléments suivants : une bio, un cv d’artiste ou un texte de démarche
– matériel audio : lien internet (soundcloud ou autre) du projet proposé et de projets antérieurs
– matériel visuel si nécessaire (dans le cas d’une installation, par exemple) : jpg ou pdf
– une liste des besoins techniques et toutes autres précisions, s’il y a lieu.

Chaque année, la sélection des expositions ayant lieu à la Galerie de l’Atelier Circulaire est faite par un jury impartial, composé de membres et de personnalités reconnues du milieu des arts visuels. Dans le cadre de sa programmation régulière, le CIRCA art actuel souhaite offrir des plages consacrées aux pratiques de la performance. En 2017, CIRCA accueillera les samedis, lorsque le Belgo fourmille de visiteurs, quatre performances les 18 mars, 6 mai, 21 octobre et 16 décembre.

Le CIRCA art actuel est un centre d’artistes dont le mandat est de diffuser les pratiques qui questionnent l’espace. Les problématiques de l’espace (espace social, personnel, géographique, culturel, politique ou environnemental) peuvent s’inscrire dans le réel, le fictif ou le virtuel. Dans les pratiques performatives, elles peuvent s’exprimer selon différents axes comme par exemple la manœuvre, le tableau vivant, l’art corporel et l’art relationnel.

CIRCA art actuel invite donc les performeurs individuels ou en collectif à venir investir les deux galeries du Centre. Les œuvres doivent être inédites ou ne pas avoir été présentées sur le territoire de la grande région de Montréal. Il est à noter que les deux salles d’exposition (Galerie I et Galerie II) seront entièrement vides et mises à la disposition des artistes. Un texte d’opuscule rédigé par un auteur présentera le travail du ou des performateur(s).

Les performances seront sélectionnées par le comité de sélection du volet Performance. Ce comité est formé de membres actifs, de membres du conseil d’administration, de la directrice et d’un membre externe invité. Le Centre se fait un devoir d’assurer une pluralité dans sa programmation. La pertinence du projet lié à la problématique de l’espace et la singularité de la proposition artistique sont les principaux critères de sélection des dossiers.

CONDITIONS GÉNÉRALES

Le cachet offert aux artistes est de 600 $ par performance.
Le performeur a accès aux salles d’exposition vides deux jours (jeudi et vendredi) avant la tenue de la performance. La performance se tiendra le samedi et le démontage doit être entièrement effectué le lendemain (dimanche) au plus tard.
Les membres actifs ou le personnel du Centre peuvent offrir un soutien technique de base.
Les dates des performances auront lieu les samedis suivants :

- 21 octobre 2017
- 16 décembre 2017

Le dossier doit être entièrement contenu dans un PDF, il doit inclure les éléments suivants :

- La durée approximative de la performance
Quinze (15) images significatives de travaux récents incluant un descriptif des projets.

Zocalo, centre dédié à la recherche et à la création en art imprimé, invite les artistes à soumettre un projet d’exposition pour 2017-2018. Les propositions esthétiques qui questionnent et innovent seront privilégiées. Tous les dossiers reçus seront sélectionnés par un jury composé de représentants du centre et de professionnels du milieu des arts visuels. L’espace d’exposition se trouve dans les ateliers de travail.

Call for Applications, Emerging Digital Artists Award
JUNE 1 – SEPT 15

The Emerging Digital Artists Award (EDAA), presented in partnership
by Equitable Bank and EQ Bank, has launched its second call for
applications. The EDAA is dedicated to early-career, Canadian artists
who are working on-screen, and experimenting with the possibilities of
digitally rendered imagery. Applicants are encouraged to play with
moving image formats such as video, animation, and GIF art.

The call will stay open through the summer – deadline to apply is
September 15, 2016.

Cinevolution’s Digital Carnival is back again at the Richmond World
Festival on September 3rd!

As the climax of our 2016 Your Kontinent Pop-up Media Fest
series, the 5th annual Digital Carnival will address a collective
“digital narration” with strong conceptualization and artistic
innovation.

WATER is the theme of this year’s program, highlighting social,
political, scientific, cultural and philosophical issues we are facing in
our community – the City of Richmond, nicknamed as Lulu Island
surrounded by rivers and beyond. Water is the main component
of both the earth and the human body; water is the source of life
and human civilization; water connects people all over the world,
and water is one of the most valuable natural resource on this
planet. Metaphorically, water plays an important role in ancient
Asian philosophies and rituals, symbolizing change, migration, and
interconnectedness of the universe.

We envision this year’s Digital Carnival as not only a celebration of
cutting edge digital technology and promising media artists, but
also an evening of innovative audio-visual storytelling, expanding
the viewer’s perspective and enriching the collective discourse
concerning the world in which we all live.

A total of 6 works will be selected. A $300 honorarium will be
awarded to each selected work.

The Art Gallery of Windsor (AGW) is pleased to invite proposals for new or recent artworks for Downtown/s: Urban Renewal Today for Tomorrow, The 2017 Art Gallery of Windsor Triennial of Contemporary Art which brings together examples of contemporary art made by artists in southwestern Ontario, Windsor-Essex, and Detroit surrounding the theme of downtown/s – downtown destruction and downtown renewal. In response to this theme, artists are to consider the many ways in which they experience, understand and frame the notion of downtown within their community in all its locational precarity and multiplicities.

The strategic plurality of the word downtown speaks to current and timely conversations about global architecture, culture and economic renaissance, topics that are changing the nature of what a downtown looks like, how it functions, and for whom. In an effort to expand the Art Gallery of Windsor’s notion of downtown and collaborate with other sites in and around the city, additional locations will serve as a stage for the presentation of art, such as the University of Windsor and its newly relocated School of Creative Arts, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre, and other sites to be determined. In the spirit of an intervention, we invite artists to submit recent works, or proposals for new work to be exhibited in a variety of spaces. Artists are encouraged to share their stories with us. We want to know how artists are responding and re-imagining their experiences and understandings of downtown in times of urban renewal. Works in all media will be considered, including sculpture, performance, video, audio, installation, photography, painting, drawing and digital media.

Application Guidelines:

Eligibility: Downtown/s: Urban Renewal Today for Tomorrow, The Art Gallery of Windsor Triennial of Contemporary Art is open to artists living in southwestern Ontario, Windsor-Essex and Detroit.
Artworks in all media created in the past two years are eligible.
Applications must include the following:
1. Cover page including name, address, city, postal code/ zip code, country, telephone, email and website (if applicable)
2. Project title, and media
3. 10 images or audio-visual documentation of previous work in the following formats (digital images: JPEG, maximum 1MB file size; maximum resolution 1024 X 768 pixels. White Water Gallery (WWG) is seeking proposals from artists working in all media for the 2017/18 programming season.

Deadline: June 30, 2016

WWG is dedicated to presenting work by contemporary artists working in or across a variety of disciplines. The gallery strives to present experimental, alternative and/or critically engaged art that is relevant to diverse cultures and “wicked problems.” The gallery welcomes submissions from individual artists, curators, and collectives, with new or existing exhibition proposals.

We also encourage initiatives that seek to expand our programming beyond the gallery space, and welcome proposals for site-specific projects.

The Gallery Space

White Water is an open concept gallery with a storefront window right on Main Street.

The exhibition space is about 1000 square feet in total (including the front entry area [20 x 15 = 300 sq ft] and the main area [35 x 20 = 700 sq ft]). The tin ceilings are about 14 feet high, and there is a drywall lip at 10 feet high.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

You will be asked to include the following:

Proposal/Project Description (1 page maximum)
Technical Requirements
Artist/Curatorial Statement (250 words max)
Artist Bio(s) (250 words max, each)
Current CV (3 pages max)
Visual Support Material with Support Material List (15 images max)

Please select visual support material mindfully, as committee members have limited time to consider each proposal. Images should be labeled numerically with the artist’s name (01_name.jpg, 02_name.jpg, etc.). Your Support Material List should include title of work, date created, medium, and dimensions.

Video documentation should either be uploaded to a site such as Youtube or Vimeo and linked in the application, or included on a USB or DVD. Regardless of duration, please include full videos. Due to time constraints, the selections committee may only view up to 5 minutes of each video. Please note the clip you would prefer the jury view by including time marks in the documentation list.

Programming Process

Proposals are judged on artistic merit and project viability, as well as in relation to White Water Gallery’s mandate and programming focus.

All submissions to the Annual Call are vetted by a Programming Committee composed of: the Director, 3 working artists or curators from the region, and 1 invited artist or curator from outside of North Bay. Based on this jury’s decisions, and taking budgetary and scheduling constraints into consideration, the Director makes final decisions in selecting each exhibition.

Please allow approximately 3 months after the deadline for the White Water Gallery jury to consider submissions.

NOTE: Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis, and those received after the post-marked deadline will be held over until the next review.

MISSION

Established in 1974 and incorporated in 1977, the White Water Gallery has played a leading role in the promotion and dissemination of contemporary art and culture, both locally and nationally. As a not-for-profit Artist-Run Centre, the Gallery aims to facilitate a diverse range of artistic programming. [To be expanded.]

Exhibition Fees
The White Water Gallery is considered a Category 1 gallery and is classified as a small space by Canadian Artists Representation Copyright Collective (CARCC). We pay full artist fees in accordance with this designation and the CARCC guidelines. The current fee for a solo exhibition is $1,900, which does not include fees paid for additional activities that may be scheduled such as artist talks, panel discussions, or screenings. We also attempt to offset costs related to shipping, travel and accommodations, and encourage artists to apply for travel bursaries and/or exhibition assistance to cover any additional costs.

Faena Art, the international nonprofit organization led by Ximena Caminos, today launched the open call for the 2016–17 Faena Prize for the Arts. A biennial international juried prize, the Faena Prize for the Arts recognizes artistic experimentation, encourages post-disciplinary and temporal exploration, and promotes inquiry of the infinite links among art, technology and design. Under the coordination of Ms. Caminos, the 2016 selection jury will include: Carlos Basualdo, Keith L. and Katherine Sachs Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art; Achim Borchardt-Hume, Director of Exhibitions at the Tate Modern; Caroline Bourgeois, curator of the François Pinault Foundation; independent curator Jesús Fuenmayor; and Victoria Noorthoorn, Director of Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires.

This year’s edition of the Faena Prize for the Arts calls on artists or groups of artists from all over the world to develop proposals for original projects that engage with the concept of time and duration while also interacting with the monumental architecture of the Faena Art Center in a significant way.

Considered one of the most prestigious art prizes in the Americas, Faena Prize winners are awarded a total of 75,000 USD; 25,000 USD of which is allocated to the artist in unrestricted funds with a 50,000 USD budget for production to realize their proposal. The resulting work will be exhibited at the Faena Art Center Buenos Aires with the possibility of being adapted for Faena Forum in Miami Beach. Two special mentions will also be awarded, each with a 1,000 USD prize.

Previous Faena Prize winners are Cayetano Ferrer (2015), Fundación Vairoletto (2013), Martín Sastre (2012). Special mention awards have been granted to Nicolas Gullota (2015), Pablo Rasgado (2015), Santiago Sierra (2013), Sebastián Díaz Morales (2013), and Wilfredo Prieto (2012).

Eligibility
Artists, both individuals and collectives, 18 years old and above are eligible to apply. Project proposals should be submitted online before August 10, 2016. Submissions may include interdisciplinary projects, installations, performances, paintings, sculptures, photographs, film or video, and work in design or architecture that reflects on, responds to and/or occupies the Faena Art Center in a profound and impactful way.

Review process
While maintaining the open call, this year’s Prize will feature a Nominating Committee that will include curators and museum directors from around the world. These nominations will be anonymous and will be reviewed by the Faena Prize jury along with all open call submissions.

The Nominating Committee will include: Abdellah Karroum, Director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Qatar; Fernanda Brenner, Artistic Director of PIVÔ, São Paulo; Jessica Morgan, Director of Dia Art Foundation, New York; Lucrecia Palacios, Curator at Malba, Buenos Aires; Philippe Pirotte, Director of Portikus and Biennale de Montréal; and Franklin Sirmans, Director of Perez Art Museum Miami. The Nominating Committee will be coordinated by curator, Jesus Fuenmayor.

Elle programme également des expositions réunissant des artistes résidents et des artistes invités, réalise des éditions de multiples, des publications, organise des rencontres et des programmes d’échanges d’artistes en résidence à l’international. L’association reçoit parallèlement aux artistes, dans le cadre des workshops qu’elle organise au sein des ateliers deux fois par an, un critique d’art en résidence, invité à travailler avec les résidents.

Situés la Friche la Belle de Mai à Marseille, ils sont attribués pour des périodes de quatre à six mois.
Les ateliers ont une superficie de 90m2 environ, avec une hauteur sous plafond de 4,80m et une hauteur sous poutre de 4,10m. Ces espaces sont dotés d’un point d’eau et d’une connexion internet. Ils sont sécurisés grâce à une alarme anti-intrusion.
Les ateliers sont attribués vides, hormis la présence de petit mobilier : table et chaise.

> Allocation de résidence

Une allocation de résidence est prévue pour les artistes résidents. Son montant s’élève à 200 euros par mois (soit 1200 euros pour six mois).
L’artiste devra être inscrit ou en cours d’inscription de son activité auprès des organismes correspondants.

> Activités

Zone d’Expérimentation
À chaque session de résidence, Astérides reçoit un critique d’art/commissaire d’exposition en résidence pendant deux semaines. Sa présence s’articule autour d’un temps de travail commun et personnel avec les artistes en résidence. Ce travail est rendu public par l’organisation d’une présentation selon le format souhaité (exposition, conférence, performance, une publication).

Visites d’ateliers
Des professionnels sont invités à venir rencontrer les artistes et découvrir leur travail sur une période choisie en amont, et de préférence à la fin du temps de résidence.

Portes ouvertes
Le public est invité pendant une journée à rentrer dans les ateliers et découvrir le travail des artistes.

Les artistes professionnels qui souhaitent développer un projet en arts visuels, approfondir et partager leur connaissances en arts imprimés, doivent soumettre un dossier décrivant leur projet pour le programme de résidence à l’Atelier de production de l’Atelier Circulaire.

Cette résidence donne droit à:

un accès illimité à l’Atelier de production pendant un mois;
un cachet d’artiste de 600 $CA;
un crédit de 100 $CA au Magasin de l’Atelier Circulaire;
l’aide technique d’un imprimeur chevronné et/ou un encadrement artistique professionnel (25 h)

Zocalo, centre dédié à l’art imprimé, privilégie la recherche et la création en art actuel par son programme de Résidence d’artistes s’adressant aux professionnels désireux d’explorer de nouvelles avenues en art imprimé.Les artistes sélectionnés auront la possibilité de créer des œuvres ou de réaliser une édition dans l’une ou l’autre des techniques pratiquées au centre. Zocalo dispose d’espaces de travail permettant la réalisation d’estampes en impression numérique, en relief et en creux.

La sélection des artistes est faite par un jury indépendant selon les critères d’évaluation suivants :

L’intérêt et la pertinence du projet concernant la notion de développement des nouveaux langages de l’estampe;
La faisabilité du projet en fonction du budget et des ressources offerts par le centre.

Cette résidence offre aux artistes :

Un cachet de production de 500 $;
Un accès aux ateliers de production pendant deux mois;
25 heures d’assistance technique (valeur de 600 $);
L’achat de matériel jusqu’à concurrence de 100 $;
Une adhésion comme membre pour l’année en cours (valeur de 50 $).

Conditions :

Présentation devant les membres de l’atelier à la fin de la résidence;
Une à deux œuvres (selon le format) devront être déposées à l’atelier.

À noter que ce programme ne couvre pas les frais d’hébergement.

Artist Residencies

The White Water Gallery accepts proposals for “micro” residencies from 1 -3 weeks in length. These residencies are open to Canadian and International artists or groups interested in engaging our Northern Ontario community. Artist fees and travel are negotiated on a case by case basis and special funding may need to be secured in order to accommodate some projects.

Artists interested in applying for a micro-residency are asked to submit a detailed proposal to the White Water Gallery’s Programming Committee. Priority will be given to proposals that compliment the Gallery’s mandate and involve partnerships and collaboration through art creation, incubators, workshops and research.

One page Project Description, outlining the scope of the project and any specific requirements (spatial, technical, time of year, etc)

Residency For Artists On Hiatus is a virtual yet functioning residency available to artists who, for one reason or another, are NOT currently making or presenting art. The residency exists in the form of a website only, and the residents are selected based on their proposals of “on-hiatus” activities (or non-activities). To be eligible to apply, artists must have previously created an independent body of work and have exhibited in a public context. Selected residents will be represented on a dedicated page within the RFAOH website, where they post periodic reports throughout their residency. A modest stipend will be awarded to successful applicants to assist in their on-hiatus endeavour. At the conclusion of their residency, residents are asked to submit a written report on how they benefited from or were otherwise influenced by this opportunity.

Since its launch in 2013, Residency For Artists On Hiatus has hosted twelve international “on-hiatus artists” with a broad range of backgrounds and projects. Through this opportunity to be free from the obligations of being an artist, they have explored the space between art-making and other creative endeavour, and the limits and liminalities of professionalism in the arts. Residency For Artists On Hiatus has also generated steady responses, including a growing community of followers, featured articles in various media, and invitations for presentations from art spaces worldwide.

We are excited to host a third cohort of residents, and continue our discourse surrounding the role of art within the wider culture. This year, we also look forward to the publication of “RFAOH Annual Reports”, which will document our operation and our residents’ “on-hiatus” activities. Atelier Topaz – résidence  Opasatika, Ontario, Canada

Le lieu
Situés au cœur de la forêt boréale, les Ateliers Topaz sont à la fois un lieu de retraite et un centre de création pour artistes, toutes disciplines confondues. L’endroit parfait pour la réflexion, l’évasion. Le groupement d’édifices fait 900 mètres carrés et repose sur 14 hectares face à la route Transcanadienne. Il donne sur un étang de deux hectares. Topaz c’est la « Route 66 » dans le nord de l’Ontario. L’endroit, modeste et nostalgique, rappelle aussi les grandes épopées de la colonisation francophone de l’Ontario. Ces studios de création ou cette résidence d’artistes, endroit idéal pour les arts visuels, sont situés au centre du Canada, à mi-chemin entre l’Atlantique et le Pacifique, là où les étoiles deviennent les topazes de la nuit.

Ce qu’on offre
D’abord l’espace et, l’espace de travail déterminés selon les besoins de l’artiste. Les espaces polyvalents permettent d’y faire de la peinture, de la sculpture, de l’installation, etc. L’atelier de menuiserie, le Bar à clou, est équipé des outils de base. Un magasin d’objets trouvés est disponible autant pour l’inspiration que pour l’utilisation dans une œuvre. Le peintre apporte ses pinceaux, le musicien son instrument et l’écrivain son ordi.

Les personnes qui séjournent aux Ateliers Topaz jouissent de l’accès à la cuisine et sont responsables de préparer leurs repas. Toutefois Laurent peut aussi leur cuisiner de petits plats typiquement canadiens-français aux besoins ou aux désirs.   Topaz possède deux suites avec lit double et une chambre avec lit simple. Chacune possède sa salle de toilette avec douche. Ces installations évoquent admirablement le style des années 1960.   Pour la baignade, le Lac des Cœurs se situe à deux kilomètres à l’est. Pour le canotage ou la pèche, la rivière Opasatika est deux kilomètres à l’ouest. Pour se déplacer, il y a de vieux vélos ou la marche. Pour un frais très raisonnable, votre hôte peut aussi vous conduire ou organiser un déplacement vers Kapuskasing à l’est ou vers Hearst à l’ouest.   Les matériaux d’artistes ne sont pas disponibles dans la région. Il est donc important de faire vos achats avant votre séjour, à moins que vous travailliez avec des matériaux que l’on peut se procurer dans des magasins ordinaires ou même en nature.

Minoru Complex Entries and Arrivals Artwork
Request for Proposals (RFP)

The City of Richmond Public Art Program seeks an artist or artist
team to create an artwork for the entrance and arrivals zone of the
new Minoru Complex. The artwork may be a single piece, or a
series of sequential pieces to create a sense of journey and present
a unique narrative for multiple entry and arrivals zones.

The themes The artwork(s) may also address wayfinding and help
to express a visual connection for visitors and staff. Artists are
encouraged to consider and respond to Richmond’s island location
and its connection to water. However, literal use of water is not
proposed due to environmental, safety and maintenance concerns.

This is a two-stage open artist call. Following review by the
selection panel of the submitted artists’ statements of interest and
conceptual proposals, up to five artists will be shortlisted and
invited to develop their concept proposals and attend an interview.
An honorarium of $2,000 will be paid to each of the shortlisted
artists or artist teams.

Call to Canadian Artists :: Nature’s Wild Backyard

The Nature’s Wild Backyard public art competition, open to
professional Artists residing in Canada, is held in accordance with
the City of Edmonton policy “Percent for Art to Provide and
Encourage Art in Public Areas” (C458C).

The Edmonton Arts Council, on behalf of the City of Edmonton,
seeks an artist or artist team to create a two-dimensional visual art
installation on the exterior west wall of the Urban Barn within the
Urban Farm. This building is the first structure visitors will see when
approaching this zone from the south west. The long back wall
offers a large and highly visible canvas for an artist or artist team to
install a two dimensional artwork. This artwork will enliven the
structure while enticing and engaging visitors as they head to the
Nature’s Wild Backyard exhibits.

The Urban Barn’s vegetated roof provides off exhibit grazing
opportunities for the goats, while also allowing for the cultivation of
regionally significant grains and grasses. As the largest building in
Nature’s Wild Backyard, the Urban Barn will serve as a resting and
gathering space for visitors on hot summer and cold winter days.
The Barn also includes an indoor interpretive playspace, an “Ed-
Zoo-Cation” drop-in play space, and space for the Junior
Zookeeper program.

Budget:
$91,600.00 CAD (maximum, all inclusive)

Encura II: Open call for two research residencies

Call for applications

Hangar Barcelona in association with Curators’ Network is offeringtwo fully-funded one-month-residencies in Barcelona, Spain. They will take place from November 14, 2016 – December 18, 2016 and from January 18, 2017 – February 19, 2017.

The call is free of charge and open to all curators and researchers who currently do not live and work in Catalonia. Deadline for the submission of applications is July 15, 2016, midnight, Spanish time, CEST time zone.

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with the artist residents at Hangar Barcelona. They will also have the occasion to research the wider artistic context of Barcelona and Catalonia as well as to establish networks and dialogues with other local and international cultural agents.

Applicants should submit a proposal that fits into the general lines of work of Hangar and Curators’ Network. This proposal should also foresee a collaboration with at least four of the current artist residents of Hangar as well as a presentation of the outcomes in a format other than a classical exhibition.

The selected candidates are expected to realize the suggested project during the residency.

Eligibility
The call is open for all cultural agents who as part of their practice habitually work with artists, from a free-lance or institutional perspective (curators, researchers, art writers, …).

There is no age limit.

Applicants should currently not reside in Catalonia.

Only one application per person or collective permitted. Curatorial collectives have to assign one member as the resident.

The call seeks especially for participants who work with a high level of excellence, but do not yet have a consolidated international career, as one of the primary goals of Curators’ Network is to promote art-professionals who are still not well known in a larger international context.

Applicants should feel comfortable engaging in artistic discussions in English.

Submitted projects should include a working proposal with a group of at least four artists among the residents at Hangar. The projects can be both motivated by an already existing research strand of the candidates or can be articulated for this specific purpose. Each of the four chosen artists will receive a specific production budget of 400 € for the purpose of the proposed project.

The two successful applicants will be asked to present the results of their residency at the end of their stay at Hangar. This final presentation should seek new and original ways of presenting the research and the work with the artists, ideally also in a digital/online format.

The two successful applicants will also be required to narrate the process of the residency through the Art Spy blog at Curators’ Network and to seek opportunities to share their experience with their own local communities.

Applicants should indicate if they are available during both or during only one of the residencies: November 14, 2016 – December 18, 2016and from January 18, 2017 – February 19, 2017.

Terms of the residency
Hangar will provide the following for each residency:

In and outbound travel (up to 300 €)
Honorary (1185 € before taxes)
Accommodation (own bedroom in a four-room house located at Hangar residency space)
A working space and internet connection (Please bring your own laptop as no computer will be provided)
A production budget of 400 € per artist (1600 € overall) which will be collectively defined among resident, artists and Hangar production team.
Technical assistance for the activities that the candidates will undertake during their residency.
Curators’ Network will provide the following:

The selected candidates are expected to realize the submitted proposal during the residency. This proposal should include at least four of the current artists in residence of Hangar. The pdf therefore should include a description of the project, its relation to the proposed group of artists as well as related images, videos and texts if necessary.
One of the objectives of Curators’ Network is to explore new forms of presentation and dissemination of contemporary art, especially those involving the creation of new digital content. Applicants should therefore foresee within their project description the possibility to present their research in an other format than an exhibition.

New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) is pleased to announce the 2017 edition of the TransX Transmission Art Symposium

NAISA is now inviting submissions for papers, performances and workshops/tutorials:

Rooted in the earliest experiments with radio, Transmission Art has continued to flourish into the 21st Century with experiments using wireless communications technology over the past 100 years, including the exploration of a variety of mobile-based and digital platforms, and lesser-known forms of transmission, such as VLF. The terrain of transmission art is dynamic and fluid, always open to redefinition.

The TransX Transmission Art Symposium, part of the Deep Wireless Festival of Radio & Transmission Art, will focus on Transmission Art and Radio Art, with particular interest in contributions that summarize, examine or reframe traditions and histories of transmission art practices, technology, broadcasting, education and pedagogy. Additionally, we are very interested in presentations that go beyond the local contingent to give a sense of how new technologies of international transmission activity might be experienced. Proposed presentations, performances and Workshops/Tutorials that combine the themes of Transmission Art and our 2017 theme “Sound Response” are also especially welcome.

Call for Applications: Studio Practicum Positions, The Banff Centre

Studio Practicum programs are experiential learning opportunities that expand and enhance participants’ technical skills and increase knowledge in the various visual arts mediums supported by The Banff Centre. Under the supervision of experienced mentors, participants learn about maintenance and safe operation of studio facilities and by offering studio assistance to artists participating in creative residency programs. Participants receive a stipend living allowance and access to subsidized housing over the course of their program. These programs are ideal for recent graduates (undergraduate or graduate) wishing to gain professional experience within an institutional context.

Printmaking Studio Practicum
Dates: October 16, 2016 – September 9, 2017
Application Deadline: June 29, 2016

This program offers practical experience in the areas of screen-printing, intaglio, lithography, typography, digital printing and software, fibre, papermaking, and related techniques.

Sculpture Studio Practicum
Dates: October 16, 2016 – September 9, 2017
Application Deadline: June 29, 2016

This program offers practical experience in the areas of tool maintenance and safety, woodworking with hand tools and heavy equipment (table saw, band saw, planer, jointer, miter saw), metal working and metal casting (bronze and aluminum), kiln firing (electric, gas, raku, salt), and various ceramic techniques. Approximately 80% of the program will be based in the sculpture studio, with 20% of time spent working in the ceramics area.

Indigenous Studio Practicum
Dates: October 16, 2016 – September 9, 2017
Application Deadline: June 29, 2016

This program offers hands-on learning opportunities for Indigenous artists in photography/video, print and papermaking, and sculpture/ceramics. An Indigenous artist will be selected for one, or all, of these positions based on artistic merit and technical skill. Enrolment to this program is limited to individuals of Indigenous descent (status, non-status, Métis or Inuit).
