Le Festival d’arts médiatiques + de culture numérique HTMlles 2010 lance un appel de projets d’œuvres d’arts médiatiques sous la thématique de pour sa 9ème édition qui aura lieu du 13 au 20 novembre 2010 à Montréal.
La date limite de soumission de projets est le lundi 13 septembre 2010, 21h00.
Lancé par le Studio XX en 1997 et évoluant aussi rapidement que les nouvelles technologies elles-mêmes, le festival HTMlles est une plateforme internationale dédiée à la présentation d’œuvres d’arts médiatiques indépendantes créées par des femmes et dévoilant la création technologique contemporaine sous toutes ses facettes, incluant mais non limité à : l’œuvre numérique à trame narrative, l’art Web, l’art vidéo ainsi que les courts-métrages, l’art audio et électronique, le jeu vidéo, l’installation, les médias localisé, l’animation 3D, la réalité virtuelle, les publications électroniques, le design, la performance et les pratiques interdisciplinaires.
Lieu de rencontre au carrefour de la créativité, de la technologie et d’un large éventail de perspectives féministes, le festival HTMlles se concentre sur la présentation publique d’œuvres d’arts médiatiques innovatrices, de tables rondes et d’ateliers de formation créant ainsi des connexions dynamiques entre le grand public, les artistes, les professionnels culturels, les commissaires, les producteurs, les éducateurs, les spécialistes, les étudiants et les technophiles.
HTMlles 2010 :
De l’IMAX à Canadarm, en passant par Softimage, MotionBuilder, Maya et le BlackBerry, les innovations technologiques canadiennes ont changé le monde. S’inspirant du récent projet du Studio XX, la Tournée Pipeline Trans-canadienne, et reflétant le rôle du Canada dans le contexte mondial, la neuvième édition du festival HTMlles mettra l’accent sur le travail d’artistes en arts médiatiques basés au Canada et au Québec et explorant les concepts de et . HTMlles maintient une vision internationale et une approche ouverte.
Que nous résistions ou accueillions avec véhémence un avenir interconnecté mondialement, n’est-il pas essentiel de mieux définir nos origines et d’explorer des valeurs communes ? Pouvons-nous en tout temps posséder plus d’une , ou, au contraire, n’en posséder aucune ? Qu’en est-il des droits et libertés reconnus et sur quels territoires ?
Comme nation, comment pouvons-nous imaginer de nouvelles formes de connexions afin d’élargir les paramètres de citoyenneté, d’identité ou de langue, et approfondir notre compréhension de démocratie et interaction entre les communautés ?
Qu’est-ce qui définit un lieu d’appartenance ? À quel moment précis, comment appartenons-nous et à quoi ? Comment créer cet espace sûr et quand est-il venu le temps d’en sortir ?
Quel rôle les technologies numériques ainsi que les logiciels libres et open source (F/LOSS) jouent-elles dans la création d’un avenir durable ? Qu’est-ce que les technologies numériques révèlent sur l’état du monde naturel et sur notre perception du paysage ?
HTMlles est à la recherche d’œuvres médiatiques innovantes qui catalysent le développement et la richesse des pratiques québécoises ou canadiennes en matière d’arts médiatiques.
HTMlles invite les artistes du Québec et du Canada de tous niveaux de carrière ainsi que les commissaires à présenter leur projets. Les collaborations avec des artistes internationaux ou des œuvres internationales sur des artistes canadiennes sont aussi éligibles.
Les artistes émergents peuvent également déposer des projets vidéos pour le Concours Émergence du festival HTMlles.

APPEL DE PROJETS Prochaines dates de tombée : 31 août 2010 et 31 janvier 2011 Situé dans l’édifice La Filature – une ancienne filature industrielle magnifiquement rénovée -, DAÏMÕN offre des ressources de création, de production et de diffusion dans les domaines de la photographie et des arts médiatiques. Par ses programmes Artiste résident, Recherche et création, Photographie et impression numérique et Soutien aux premières œuvres, DAÏMÕN encourage les artistes à repousser les limites de leur pratique et à développer de nouvelles approches par le biais de l’image, de la vidéo, ainsi que des arts sonores et électroniques, y compris les pratiques installatives, interactives et performatives. DAÏMÕN privilégie les projets qui font valoir le jeu de plus en plus complexe des médias entre eux et qui interrogent les zones intermédiaires et non seulement les langages constitués des médias utilisés. Seuls les projets comportant un certain degré de recherche sont considérés. Avec son STUDIÕ, espace de production et de diffusion, DAÏMÕN favorise la mise en espace et la mise à l’essai d’œuvres d’envergure, ainsi que le développement des pratiques transversales. Des rencontres publiques y sont organisées régulièrement afin de permettre à la communauté de s’initier au travail des artistes accueillis en résidence. Ce STUDIÕ multifonctionnel est offert aux artistes pour l’expérimentation, la production et la présentation d’œuvres dont les composantes requièrent une infrastructure technique particulière. DAÏMÕN met à la disposition des artistes des équipements de tournage et d’enregistrement, et des salles de montage audio et vidéo numérique. Une chambre noire permet des développements argentiques de grand format (1m32) à partir de négatifs pouvant aller jusqu’à 280 mm. Un service d’impression numérique (EPSON Stylus 9600 Pro) est également disponible. PROGRAMMES DE CRÉATION Artiste résident Recherche et création Soutien aux premières œuvres Recherche en photographie et en impression numérique Artiste résident Offert aux artistes professionnels de l’extérieur de la région Ottawa-Gatineau, ce programme veut promouvoir des échanges féconds entre les artistes d’ici et d’ailleurs. Il s’adresse aux artistes en mi-carrière et établis ou qui ont cumulé plus de cinq années de pratique dans un champ de recherche spécifique. Le Centre fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un séjour de 4 à 6 semaines incluant l’hébergement, l’accès aux équipements du Centre et les services d’un technicien (60 heures). Un cachet de 1 500 $ est versé à l’artiste. Certaines indemnités de déplacement ainsi que des indemnités quotidiennes sont également payées par DAÏMÕN. Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes. DAÏMÕN organise une soirée-rencontre avec le public où l’artiste présente son travail antérieur et actuel. Recherche et création Ce programme est offert aux artistes professionnels de la relève, en mi-carrière ou établis. DAÏMÕN sélectionne six artistes par année, dont trois parmi les candidats de la région Ottawa-Gatineau et trois parmi les candidats en provenance de l’extérieur de la région. DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un encadrement technique et artistique, l’accès aux équipements du Centre pendant une durée de quatre (4) semaines et les services d’un technicien (50 heures). Certaines indemnités de déplacement ainsi que des indemnités quotidiennes sont également payées par DAÏMÕN pour les artistes de l’extérieur. Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes. Photographie argentique et impression numérique Ce programme vise à mieux soutenir la création sur support papier en chambre noire et en impression numérique. DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un encadrement technique et artistique; l’accès aux équipements du Centre pour la réalisation des projets pendant une durée de trois (3) semaines et les services d’un technicien (15 heures). Certaines indemnités de déplacement ainsi que des indemnités quotidiennes sont également payées par DAÏMÕN pour les artistes de l’extérieur. Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes. En photographie traditionnelle, les artistes doivent fournir leurs produits de développement et leurs papiers photographiques. Soutien aux premières œuvres DAÏMÕN maintient son soutien à la réalisation d’une première œuvre pour trois artistes de la région Ottawa-Gatineau. Les projets admissibles comportent la production d’une œuvre originale utilisant la vidéo, ou l’application de médias hybrides à des œuvres d’art. Sont admissibles à ce programme, les artistes en début de carrière de la région Ottawa-Gatineau ayant une formation de base et voulant créer dans un contexte professionnel une première œuvre dans les champs de la pratique photographique, vidéographique ou des nouveaux médias. Les artistes professionnels de la région Ottawa-Gatineau ayant déjà une pratique artistique dans une autre discipline (peinture, sculpture, photographie, installation, etc.) et voulant développer une production en vidéo et/ou en nouveaux médias sont également admissibles. DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation des projets un encadrement technique et artistique, l’accès aux équipements pendant une durée de trois (3) semaines et les services d’un technicien (30 heures). Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes. PRÉSENTATION DES DOSSIERS Les artistes intéressés sont invités à prendre connaissance des conditions des programmes de création et à faire parvenir un dossier comprenant: - une indication claire du choix du programme; - un résumé du projet (5 lignes); - un énoncé de la démarche artistique (1/2 page maximum); - une description du projet (1 page maximum); - une description des besoins techniques et un échéancier de production (1 page maximum); - un curriculum vitæ (3 pages maximum); - une documentation d’appui * accompagnée d’une liste descriptive; - une enveloppe affranchie pour le retour du dossier. * La documentation d’appui doit faire état de la production artistique et non seulement du projet à réaliser. Call for Submissions from Artists and Curators

Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography is a non-profit artist-run centre committed to the advancement of photographic art. We encourage the submission of exhibition proposals from emerging, mid-career and established artists and curators who are innovative in their use of materials and approach to subject matter. Gallery 44 views photography within the larger context of contemporary artistic practices and relevant cultural issues in today’s society.
Submission Guidelines
Please submit the following:
1. A maximum of twenty slides or digital images (CD must be readable on MAC OSX) representing a recent body of work or a specific project. Digital images should be: RGB, jpeg format no larger than 1024 x 768 pixels at 300 dpi. They should be numbered 01 to 20 (01_tree, 02_house, 03_car etc.) GALLERY 44 DOES NOT ACCEPT ORIGINAL ARTWORK.
2. An image list indicating title, year, medium and dimensions.
3. An artist’s statement, curatorial statement, or other written description.
4. A physical description of the proposed exhibition, including the number of works, the space required and any unusual installation requirements.
5. A curriculum vitae, resume or biography of the artist(s) and/or curator (including all artists if it is a curated exhibition).
6. A self-addressed envelope (SASE) with sufficient return postage. Without an SASE we will not return submission packages and will dispose of submission materials appropriately.

Call to Artists for Expression of Interest (EOI)
Permanent Public Art Work
Mount Dennis Neighbourhood Project at Weston Road and Dennis Avenue
Toronto Cultural Services works with staff across City of Toronto divisions and agencies, boards and commissions to identify exciting new opportunities for commissioning innovative contemporary artworks in the City’s public spaces.
Recently, with real estate development in Ward 11 (York South-Weston) generating Section 37 funds, street upgrades and a traffic calming enlarged sidewalk inserted at the corner of Weston Road and Dennis Avenue, this gateway site to the Mount Dennis neighbourhood has been chosen as the site of a new public art work to be commissioned by the City. The decision has been reached through extensive community consultations, which concluded that an artwork would define the site as a focal point, create a pedestrian friendly environment and encourage awareness of the neighbourhood’s collective heritages and identity.
With roots in a rural past, the Mount Dennis area became a burgeoning centre of mills for saw, wool and grist by the beginning of the 19th century. It gradually evolved into one of Toronto’s largest industrial hubs and for decades was dotted with hundreds of factories and rail yards surrounded by a thriving community of merchants and single home dwellers. But industry eventually left and the culturally diverse neighbourhood is now ripe for much needed revitalization.
Cultural Services views the unique context and parameter of this site as an opportunity to commission an artist or artist team to create a site specific public art work with light and new media components (Note: the bench in the photograph will be removed to accommodate the art work). The art production budget for this project including all fees, materials, technologies, fabrication and installation costs is $225,000.
For this first stage of the competition, Toronto Cultural Services is inviting local and national artists or artist teams to respond to this Expression of Interest (EOI) by submitting the following:

• Artist(s) statement in text form outlining interest in the project and experience
• 6 to 8 digital images of recent, relevant work in the following format:

A short list of 3 to 5 artists will be selected during this first stage. For the second stage of the competition each artist will be paid a fee to develop a project proposal based on a Terms of Reference document provided to him or her by Toronto Cultural Services. A public open house exhibition of the short listed designs and final design selection will be held at a date and place to be announced.
Note that the artists selected for the short list must be prepared to consider the challenge and importance of working closely with the Mount Dennis community and its creative interests. This may take the form of on site community workshops involving organizations such as Urban Arts to inform the development of the artistic content.
The public art concept for the Mount Dennis Neighbourhood Project will be selected through a two stage open competition by a specially convened independent Selection Committee made up of practicing arts professionals and community representatives.
The Mount Dennis Neighbourhood Project is administered by the Public Art Office of Cultural Services in collaboration with Transportation Services, Public Realm, and Right-of-Way (ROW) of the City of Toronto.

Call for Art!
This fall, Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre is excited to be launching our newly designed fundraising project – a deck of MF ARCards! This distinctly Kingstonian deck of cards will represent the creative strength of our community by reproducing the work of local artists and designers on the front of each card.
The cards will be sold as a collector and tourist item at various businesses throughout the city with all proceeds supporting Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre. Projected to be one of our most significant fundraising events this year the cards will, at the same time, raise the profile of contemporary artists within Kingston and its environs.
Modern Fuel* is currently seeking images of new and/or past works to be included on a card in the deck together with the name of the artist. The submissions for this project will be considered on a first-come-first-served basis, however, publication of all submissions cannot be guaranteed. If an artist would like to request publication of their image on a particular card (for instance, the Queen of Hearts), these will also be distributed on a first-come-first-awarded basis. Multiple submissions will be permitted. If you would like to donate an image to the MF ARCards, you are invited to use the submission form on our website at www.modernfuel.org/deck , which includes information on the specs and file format standards for the cards.
Deadline for submissions is September 1st, 2010. We will hold a launch event for the Card Deck in October 2010 where each artist in attendance can pick up their own free deck of MF ARCards!

Sometimes you can’t do something right without doing it wrong. A mistake
can be an unplanned act of genius. Getting hopelessly lost can set you on
the right path.
Broadcasting For Reels is seeking works of audio art that address the idea
of “Success Through Failure.” Chosen entries will be aired on CKDU-FM in
Halifax and distributed to community radio stations throughout Canada.
Broadcasting For Reels is an audio art project presented annually by the
Centre for Art Tapes since 1993. The project accepts new audio work no more
then one year old up to a maximum of 10 minutes in length. Works should be
submitted as an audio CD or as a data file (wav, aiff or mp3) via email,
web transfer or disc. Only those selected will be notified. If you would
like your submission returned to you please include a self addressed,
stamped envelope.

August 3, 2010 (Vancouver, BC) – The 6th Annual Vancouver Women in Film Festival, scheduled to take place March 4-8, 2011 in Vancouver, Canada, officially launched its Call for Submissions today, looking for short and feature film submissions in all genres. The 2010 Festival received hundreds of submissions from all over the world.
All independent filmmakers (women and men) seeking a Vancouver premiere are encouraged to apply. Submissions featuring strong female characters and stories are encouraged. Eligible films must have THREE of the following (one woman may serve in more than one role): a woman as Writer, a woman as Producer, a woman as Director, a woman as D.O.P., a woman as Lead Actor, a woman as Lead Animator / Editor.
”There was such a breadth of vision, expression and storytelling in the submissions we received last year, I’m very excited to see what we’ll be presenting to our audiences in 2011,” says Festival Director and WIFTV Board Member, Roslyn Muir. “In addition, we’ll be bringing back New Media Day, originally introduced in our 2009 festival, where industry experts shed light on new trends and the future of filmmaking in Canada.”
Last year’s opening night feature film, Penelope Buitenhuis’ “A Wake” went on to be part of Telefilm’s Perspective Canada screenings at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. She was later nominated for Best Director at the DGC 2010 Awards. Writer-director Angelina Cantada, whose film “Let’s Play Boccia!” screened last year, went on to win the $10,000 Omni Television Diversity in Cultures Award at the 2010 Leo Awards in Vancouver.
The Festival is presented by Women in Film and Television Vancouver and is one of our key annual celebration events. In addition to offering independent filmmakers a professional screening opportunity, the festival also serves to build audiences and appreciation for relevant cinema by women.
The festival supports filmmakers with cash awards and artists’ fees. Last year, three filmmakers were the recipients of the Legacy Awards, representing $1500 in cash awards. Award-winning filmmaker Lulu Keating was the 2010 recipient of the Women In the Director’s Chair Feature Film Award, presented by Creative Women Workshops Association, represents industry leadership and support from some of the most significant companies in western Canada and is valued at nearly $100,000.

Roadside Attractions Submissions Outline
We accept submissions for projects in any media with the provision that it is suited to the confines of the
space, the exception being two-dimensional work that may be better suited for wall or easel presentation.
Each exhibit is on display from the beginning of the month to its end.
We place free listings for each installation in various media. Each current month’s show is prominently
featured on our web page with a large image and statement regarding the work. Previous installations are
archived with smaller images, crediting the artist and linking to their website. A monthly e-newsletter is
sent out highlighting each installation.
Exhibiting at Roadside Attractions is absolutely free, however we cannot cover additional expenses
(shipping; materials specific to the installation; fabrication of plinths; etc.).
Venue’s dimensions: height 60″(152.4cm) x width 80”( 203cm) tapering to 70″(177.8cm) toward the
back) x depth 21”(53.3cm)
NOTES: The back enclosure is made of translucent white coroplast (corrugated plastic sheeting)
supported by a 1 x 2 pine framework. We don’t want holes in the coroplast but light items can be hung
from the top of the wall, as well there are screw eyes in the ceiling that can take more weight to suspend
objects. The space is limited but quite flexible. We can assist in all aspects of the installation but you
must pay for any special materials needed.

issue.
Image-based work is welcome. Written works, both artistic and

Front Magazine is Vancouver’s favourite 20-year-long cultural

The term Golden Age originated in Greek mythology. It refers to the first in a sequence of Ages of Man. The Golden Age denotes the period of primordial peace, harmony, stability, and prosperity during which, it is said, humans lived among the gods, mingling freely with them, and living to a very old age – all the while keeping their youthful appearance and vitality.
According to media innovator Moses Znaimer, today’s new “Zoomer” generation is staying current, fit, healthy and engaged well past what used to be thought as the traditional age of “retirement”. In Mr. Znaimer’s own words “most Zoomers are active, contributing members of society. Just staying alive is not our preference; living well till we die is”
How does the concept of A Golden Age fire your imagination as a visual artist? Artists are encour- aged to explore this theme widely through the artistic medium of their choice.
Artists selected for this exhibition will be paid Carfac fees, will be eligible for a $2000 Best in Show Prize and a $1000 Peoples’ Choice Prize, and their work will be featured in Zoomer Magazine. Out of town artists will receive accommodation if they wish to be present at the ZoomerShow.

La Ville de Cugnaux souhaite faire un appel à un artiste pour la
conception et réalisation d’une oeuvre
originale destinée à l’espace urbain et à l’Espace Paul Éluard. Le
projet doit avoir un lien avec les civilisations anciennes, l’histoire,
la mémoire, la quête des origines, les traces, la mémoire, les fouilles
archéologiques…
La réalisation proposée dans l’espace urbain doit être visuelle,
marquer visiblement l’espace urbain et avoir
un lien avec l’environnement et l’histoire du site ; elle est prévue
pour une installation éphémère d’une durée
de 3 mois maximum. Les créations monumentales sont privilégiées.
L’artiste doit tenir compte dans sa conception des conditions
climatiques et des éventuels actes de vandalisme.
Il est libre de choisir les matériaux dans la mesure où le
respect de l’environnement du site est garanti et qu’ils ne
présentent aucun danger pour les publics.
Le lieu d’implantation : un périmètre approximatif a été défini, qui
peut être étendu ou réduit selon le projet : Square Salvador Allende
(proche église)
La réalisation pour l’Espace Paul Éluard peut être, selon le propos de
l’artiste, être une introduction à l’installation dans l’espace urbain
ou un prolongement ou encore un autre projet autonome mais toujours sur
le même thème « art et archéologie », aucune technique n’est privilégiée.

L’artiste doit être autonome dans son travail, il peut bénéficier du
soutien logistique des services techniques
dans la mesure des moyens dont dispose la commune. La commune ne
dispose pas d’hébergement pour les artistes c’est pourquoi il est prévu
un budget pour celui-ci, elle ne dispose pas non plus d’atelier, mais
selon les modalités de réalisation des oeuvres, des solutions peuvent
être trouvées au cas par cas.
L’artiste s’engage :
– à concevoir la réalisation de l’oeuvre en conformité avec le projet
validé par la direction du service
Culture de la Ville de Cugnaux et dans le respect des délais indiqués
et de l’enveloppe budgétaire
allouée ;
– à assumer la responsabilité artistique du projet et à ce titre
supervise artistiquement et techniquement la réalisation de l’oeuvre ;
il se charge ainsi du choix et de l’achat du matériel dans le
respect de l’environnement du lieu d’implantation ;
– à fournir tous les visuels et les textes utiles pour les outils de
communication produits à l’occasion de
cet événement ;
– à répondre favorablement aux sollicitations des médias ou à se faire
représenter ;
– à être présent 15 jours ouvrés sur la commune de Cugnaux en continu
ou de façon fractionnée, le temps nécessaire pour le montage et la
rencontre avec les publics
(accueillir 10 groupes) ;
– à être présent au vernissage et au démontage de l’exposition.

Cette somme est répartie entre les postes suivants :
Le budget de production 13 000€
– les frais de production de l’oeuvre : création, achat et travail des
matériaux, réalisation l’acheminement vers le site, montage, assistance éventuelle
– les déplacements de l’artiste y compris ceux du repérage
– la mise en place de moyens par l’artiste pour assurer la maintenance
de l’oeuvre pendant la durée de l’événement en cas de dégradations
naturelles ou humaines de l’oeuvre
– la rémunération de l’artiste
Frais de résidence 2000€ : hébergement et la restauration pendant le temps de la
résidence.

– Un professionnel de l’art contemporain extérieur à la commune
Le choix du comité est soumis par décision à M. Le Maire et à Mme

International Jury to Award Cash Prizes
in Five Categories at Hamptons International Film Festival
Short-Film Submissions Begin August 2 and Run Through August 22
New York / London (August 2, 2010) Digital broadcast network Babelgum announced today the first tri-platform (online, mobile and offline) competition for animation and anime, the Babelgum Animatron Film Festival. The competition will culminate in a special public screening program, The Hamptons Animation Showcase, at the 2010 Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) in October. Entries will be eligible for an Audience Award voted on by the public as well as cash prizes from a select jury of leaders in the animation, film, and television world, including RotoScope pioneer Tommy Pallotta (Snack and Drink, Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly), industry leader and visual-effects producer Charlotte Bavasso (Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Nexus Productions), and animators Pete Bishop (Bromwell High, Captain Star) and Isaac Littlejohn Eddy (Anatomy of a Dog Show, Capturing King), and Jeffrey Scher (Paper View, Lost and Found, Tulips), with others to be announced soon.
The submission period begins Monday, August 2, 2010 and continues through Sunday, August 22. Submissions will be available for global viewing at www.babelgum.com/animatron and on the free Babelgum mobile apps in mid September. Votes for the audience award can be placed online or via the mobile apps. Attendees at the Hamptons International Film Festival will also have a chance to cast votes for the Audience Awards, which will be tabulated together with online/mobile audience votes.
Building on this initiative, the Hamptons International Film Festival has partnered with Babelgum to co-present the Hamptons Animation Showcase, an eclectic animated shorts program at the 2010 Hamptons Film Festival, with additional support on marketing and media visibility for the Animatron Film Festival from Shooting People, the social network for independent filmmakers, and RingTales, a company that specializes in animating syndicated comic strips (Dilbert, The New Yorker). Juried by some of the biggest names in animation, with entries from around the globe, the Hamptons Animation Showcase screenings are scheduled to include select winners of the Animatron Jury Awards in five categories (Humor, Fantasy, Real Life, Anime and Minis). Following the initial screening, Babelgum and HIFF will hold an hour-long symposium on “The Future of Animation” at the Festival, featuring panelists from major studios and television networks, leading filmmakers, and some of the pioneers of an
imation.

Eligible films will incorporate any known animation technique, including CGI, stop-motion, Flash, hand-drawn/cel, live-action mixed, claymation, paper-cut, Pixilation, RotoScope, 3D, machinima, and all others. There are no restrictions on production year or whether the film has been previously distributed or entered into any online and/or offline film festival. The award categories are as follows:
· HUMOR: Cartoons/animation that look at life slightly askew
· FANTASY: Sci-fi, horror, adventure, outer space, imaginary worlds, genre-based
· REAL LIFE: Animated documentary, RotoScope, interview-based films
· ANIME: Manga, Japanimation, comics-inspired
· MINIS: Under 60 seconds
The Babelgum Animatron Film Festival will award the following prizes:
. The Audience Awards will be given to an outstanding film in each category receiving the highest number of votes determined solely by the voting totals from the global online and mobile Babelgum and Hamptons audiences.
. The Jury Awards will be given to an outstanding film in each of the five categories, determined by members of the Jury. Five first-place winners will receive a $2,500 cash award and five second-place winners will receive a $500 cash award.
. The Grand Jury Award will be given to an outstanding film in any category, chosen by members of the Jury. The winner will receive a $5,000 cash award.

WHAT
The emergence of destination cinema and the proliferation of large-format
screens in public spaces present a challenge – and opportunity – to
filmmakers and artists working in more traditional screen formats. At the
very least a new cinematic language is required, one taking account of the
audience’s very different experience of stories presented on “frameless”
screens. Fulldome, with its hemispherical screens and surround-sound, is an accessible and powerful test-bed enabling filmmakers and artists to
experiment with and develop this new language.
WHY
Reflecting its provenance, most fulldome content to date has been
educational and comprised of computer-generated animation, data
visualistion, or a combination of both. Now, however, there is a shifting
focus, with producers turning their sights to the entertainment potential of
live-action story-telling for large-formats such as fulldome.
Dome Lab is a world-leading intensive workshop investigating this potential and the specific challenges involved in creating compelling live-action narrative content for large format and frameless screens.
WHO
Filmmakers and artists excited by the chance to leap beyond the frame and
into the expansive creative potential of large-format, immersive screen
experiences are invited to apply. Participants will work alongside a team of
creative and technical luminaries including Academy-Award winner, Ben Shedd, 2010 Peter Rasmussen award-winner, Peter Morse and international fulldome pioneer, Hue Walker Bumgarner-Kirby.
Applicants must have a minimum of three years professional experience in
their field (except for SDA Subsidy applicants – see guidelines). Selection
will be based on skill-set, with a view to putting together four to five
small production teams. Accordingly, applicants from the full production
chain, including writers, directors, camera and audio operators, editors,
and designers are encouraged to apply.

APPEL À CANDIDATURES DE LA VILLE DE BEAUVAIS (60) RÉSIDENCE DE CRÉATION MULTIMÉDIA – SAISON 2010/2011
Consciente des enjeux de la création actuelle, la Ville de Beauvais développe depuis plusieurs années une politique de diffusion et de soutien dans le domaine des arts visuels. Plusieurs outils sont ainsi mis à la disposition des artistes :
– trois espaces de monstration au sein de l’Espace culturel – la Galerie Boris-Vian, la Galerie François-Mitterrand et la Salle basse de l’Auditorium Rostropovitch – où se succèdent au fil des mois, des expositions d’artistes de renom et de jeunes talents.
– les Ateliers et résidences d’artistes qui, depuis leur ouverture en juin 2004 dans une ancienne friche industrielle, permettent d’inscrire le processus artistique au coeur de la ville.
Autour des problématiques liées au développement des cultures numériques (résidence de création multimédia) ou de l’émergence de la scène artistique française (résidence photographique à destination des jeunes diplômés), l’ensemble des projets de production et d’exposition est conçu dans une logique de partenariat et de décloisonnement des pratiques.
Le projet
Initiée en 2007, la Ville de Beauvais organise en partenariat avec Le Labo – Espace Culture Multimédia, la quatrième édition de la résidence de création multimédia du 1er avril au 30 juin 2011. Ce projet bénéficie également du soutien de la Drac Picardie.
La résidence a pour vocation d’interroger l’usage des nouvelles technologies dans le champ de la création contemporaine, de prendre en compte les évolutions des modes de production d’oeuvres, le lien entre création et pratiques sociales ainsi que les croisements opérés entre les pratiques artistiques : nouvelles images, vidéo, installation, performance, composition musicale, jeux vidéo, projets pluridisciplinaires, etc. Ouverte à des artistes professionnels, confirmés ou émergents, la résidence offre ainsi un contexte de recherche et de rencontre idéal pour des créateurs souhaitant approfondir leur relation aux écritures numériques et multimédia.
Durant les trois mois, l’artiste est assisté par la Mission Arts plastiques de la Ville et l’équipe du Labo qui mettent à sa disposition les moyens techniques nécessaires à la réalisation du projet de résidence. Une exposition ou une manifestation dans l’un des espaces de monstration de la Ville sera organisée de novembre 2011 à février 2012. Un temps de rencontres est également prévu avec les différentes structures artistiques et culturelles de la
région.
En parallèle de sa résidence, l’artiste s’engage à se rendre disponible pour diverses actions de sensibilisation et de médiation auprès des jeunes publics :
– un atelier de création multimédia avec une classe du Lycée J. Hachette (option Arts plastiques),
– une rencontre avec les étudiants de l’Ecole d’Art du Beauvaisis et de l’Ecole d’Art et de Design d’Amiens,
– et une rencontre avec les publics du Blog 46.
Ces actions seront organisées sur la base d’un programme élaboré par la Mission Arts plastiques en accord avec l’artiste.

Aux Ateliers d’artistes de la Ville, situés près de la gare de Beauvais :
– un studio privatif équipé,
– deux ateliers nus de travail de 106m2 et 53m2,
– et un atelier d’infographie équipé : un Power Mac G5 écran plat 20’’, une imprimante Laser A4, une imprimante jet d’encre A3 (30 x 40cm), un scanner, logiciels PAO et connexion internet adsl.
Au Labo, labellisé Espace Culture Multimédia par le Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication et situé au coeur du quartier Argentine* :
– un studio d’enregistrement et de mixage (en stéréo ou 5.1),
– un studio de création graphique et vidéo,
– ainsi qu’un accompagnement technique et spécialisé en programmation informatique (en c, c++, action script,
sur Isadora, vvvv).
* Le Centre culturel Argentine comprend trois équipements gérés par l’ASCA : l’Ouvre-Boîte, le cinéma Agnès Varda et Le Labo.
L’artiste sélectionné(e) bénéficie d’une bourse d’aide à la création de 2500 euros net, d’une allocation forfaitaire mensuelle de séjour (transport et alimentation), d’une rémunération complémentaire dans le cadre d’interventions pédagogiques ainsi que d’un budget de production défini sur présentation du projet, en concertation avec la Direction des affaires culturelles.

L’ancienne directrice générale du Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, Shirley Thomson
Une grande dame du milieu des arts est décédée mardi. Originaire de Walkerville en Ontario, Shirley Thomson a dirigé certains des plus grands musées et galeries d’art du Canada, dont le Musée McCord de Montréal et le Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, de 1987 à 1997.
Mme Thomson a aussi fait la promotion des artistes canadiens à titre de directrice du Conseil des Arts du Canada.
Elle a également dirigé la Commission canadienne d’examen des exportations de biens culturels à Patrimoine canadien.
Shirley Thomson était âgée de 80 ans.
