Manif d’art
Biennale majeure en arts visuels actuels sur la scène canadienne, la Manif d’art présente à Québec et en périphérie le travail de près de 100 artistes provenant de tous les horizons. Environ 30 organismes culturels et artistiques de la ville de Québec et de l’international collaborent à cette manifestation artistique incontournable se tenant de mai à juin tous les deux ans. En plus des expositions, l’événement offre une pléiade d’activités évoluant autour d’un thème central, exclusif à chaque édition. La Manif d’art s’adresse au public spécialisé ainsi qu’aux visiteurs non initiés qui profitent d’un vaste volet destiné à la découverte de l’art actuel.
Thématique
Les lignes directrices de la Manif d’art 7, telles que définies par la commissaire Vicky Chainey Gagnon, se déploieront autour du thème de la résistance. L’événement commencera par une reconnaissance du rôle critique joué par les arts visuels et médiatiques dans la documentation de conflits et de manifestations de résistance. Comme l’indique la commissaire, leur contribution à l’expression de points de vue personnels sur la politique, la guerre, les injustices sociales et la condition humaine sera également examinée : « L’actualité est marquée par différentes vagues inquiétantes comme le fondamentalisme extrême, l’euphorie de la spéculation et de la consommation, combinés au chômage généralisé, aux crises bancaires et à la surchauffe des marchés boursiers, sans parler des enjeux écologiques. Dans le contexte très récent d’un effondrement économique planétaire, le moment semble propice pour jeter un coup d’œil sur les productions artistiques contemporaines qui parlent des modes d’articulation de la résistance aujourd’hui. »

OEUVRES INTERACTIVES (prix Innovation)

Dans le cadre de la section FNC Lab et de son volet compétitif dédié aux œuvres interactives, le Festival du nouveau cinéma est à la recherche d’œuvres qui expérimentent avec les nouveaux formats audiovisuels et les outils technologiques les plus innovants pour raconter une histoire, exprimer un concept et contribuer, plus activement que jamais, au cinéma de demain.
Les projets Web, transmédia et multiplateformes les plus originaux et audacieux seront retenus afin d’être présentés au public et seront éligibles au Prix Innovation (1000 $ en argent) remis chaque année.

Bourse Imago
Imago offre une place particulière aux artistes estampiers de la relève en offrant depuis 1996, la bourse Imago à un.e artiste finissant.e de l’Université de Moncton ou de Mount Allison University de Sackville. Cette bourse de perfectionnement offre un an d’adhésion à l’atelier, 500$ en matériaux et l’occasion d’approfondir une recherche en estampe e t continuer une production au Nouveau-Brunswick. Une nouvelle résidence de recherche et création expérimentale
offerte par PRIM !
PRIM (Productions Réalisations Indépendantes de Montréal) lance un appel à candidatures auprès des artistes établis ou à mi-carrière dont la pratique artistique conjugue simultanément l’expérimentation, l’exploration et la recherche aux étapes de production.
Tous les créateurs indépendants utilisant les outils de création numérique audiovisuels sont invités à déposer leur candidature pour cette nouvelle résidence d’un an dédiée à la recherche et la création expérimentale. Les pratiques artistiques visées sont l’installation vidéo, audio, interactive, l’essai documentaire, la vidéo d’art, l’art sonore, la fiction expérimentale, l’animation, la vidéo de danse et la performance.
L’artiste accueilli en résidence pourra bénéficier de l’utilisation illimitée, pour une période d’un an, de tous les équipements de tournage et de l’utilisation des studios de montage et/ou de son, d’une bourse d’heures techniques de 100 heures pour le montage en ligne ou mixage sonore et d’une formation de base en audio et/ou vidéo.
La résidence doit permettre à l’artiste un renouvellement de son langage. Des besoins doivent être exprimés en termes d’accès aux équipements et au soutien de l’équipe technique de PRIM. L’artiste devra démontrer la nature expérimentale et l’aspect novateur de sa proposition et décrire les impacts qu’aurait cette résidence sur son processus de création. L’innovation peut se trouver dans un renouvellement d’éléments formels sur les plans du style, de la technique ou du processus. Elle peut être une contribution fondée sur l’originalité du sujet ou du contenu du projet, ou encore sur la singularité du point de vue ou du processus d’expression de l’artiste.

DIAGONALE invite les commissaires et les artistes en arts visuels à proposer leurs dossiers pour la programmation régulière du centre.
L’appel de dossier s’adresse à tous les artistes qu’ils soient des artistes « occasionnels » de la fibre ou des inconditionnels du domaine.
DIAGONALE regroupe des artistes du Québec et du Canada. Il a pour premier objectif la promotion et la diffusion du travail des artistes en arts visuels qui utilisent les techniques et/ou les procédés relevant du domaine des arts de la fibre. Le centre établit un dialogue avec les artistes de toutes les disciplines afin de favoriser le métissage au niveau des idées.
Art / Fibre
Il faut mieux parler de fibre et non de textile qui est une matière propre à être tissée. La fibre désigne quant à elle toute matière filamenteuse de forme allongée, d’origine naturelle ou non, qui entre dans la composition d’un corps ou d’un objet. Ses qualités tactiles ainsi que sa structure molle et flexible constituent des potentialités spécifiques indéniables.
Entrent dans la catégorie : la fibre, le fil et le tissu incluant les fibres végétales, animales, synthétiques et artificielles, les fils métalliques, les tubulures plastiques, les lanières de cuir, les languettes de bois, les bandelettes de papiers et la fourrure.
Les techniques et les procédés comprennent toutes les formes de construction et de traitement possible ; couture, tissage, haute lice, maillage, tressage, nouage, dentelle, broderie, laminage, façonnage, feutrage, taille direct, assemblage, gaufrage, feutrage, pliage, froissage, entrelacs, plissage, moulage, teinture, etc.
En prenant compte le concept fibre on doit ajouter les possibilités d’intégration de techniques et de matériaux propres à d’autres pratiques. La fibre peut être évoquée, représentée ou utilisée. On retrouve de tout chez DIAGONALE : la peinture, la sculpture, l’installation, la vidéo, la performance …
Les artistes ou les projets d’exposition sont sélectionnés par un comité de membres et d’invités extérieurs. DIAGONALE encourage la réalisation d’activités novatrices qui élargissent la notion de concept fibre.

Appel d’oeuvres – SAT Fest 2013
Soumettez vos oeuvres pour la nouvelle édition du SAT Fest!
Lancé en mars 2012, le SAT Fest est un festival de courts-métrages 360° visant à promouvoir la création de contenus artistiques dans le domaine de l’immersion audiovisuelle. Offrant une importante place aux créations locales et produites par des artistes issus des formations de la SAT, nous ouvrons aussi désormais l’édition 2013 aux créations venant de l’international.
La sélection de films 2013 sera d’une durée totale d’environ 45 à 75 minutes et sera dévoilée dès le mois d’août dans la Satosphère. Une bourse de 1000$ sera offerte à chacune des équipes dont l’oeuvre aura été sélectionnée en plus d’un « Prix du public » qui sera décerné lors de la première semaine de projection!

Le Centre d’exposition L’Imagier – APPEL DE DOSSIERS 2013 Date limite : 5 avril 2013
Le Centre d’exposition L’Imagier invite les artistes qui désirent exposer dans le cadre de la programmation annuelle 2014 à faire parvenir leur dossier avant le 5 avril 2013. La programmation régulière débute en janvier et se termine en décembre.
Cette année, une attention particulière sera portée à la diversité des pratiques artistiques. Les démarches intégrant les nouveaux médias sont les bienvenues.
L’Imagier met à la disposition des artistes deux salles à l’architecture unique. Le Centre convie les artistes à soumettre un projet d’exposition pouvant occuper une des deux salles ou les deux. Les propositions d’expositions de groupe réunissant deux ou trois artistes sont également acceptées.
Les dossiers reçus seront soumis à un jury de pairs.

APPEL DE DOSSIERS – PROGRAMMATION RÉGULIÈRE
Skol invite les artistes et autres membres de la communauté artistique à soumettre des propositions pour des projets de courte ou de longue durée, ou encore, des propositions qui donnent continuité à des recherches déjà en cours dans notre programmation. Il s’agit, dans ce cas, de permettre un échange entre différents professionnels de l’art dont les recherches et l’expérimentation pourront activer différents espaces et produire différentes formes autant dans la galerie que hors-les-murs.
Il peut s’agir d’une exposition, d’une intervention, d’un partenariat, d’un projet de commissariat, d’un cours de maître, d’une publication, d’un séminaire ou colloque, de performances, de conférences, d’ateliers de production, de projections ponctuelles ou en série, d’une fouille dans les archives, d’une initiative de financement ou même d’un ensemble de ces formes regroupées dans un projet d’envergure.
Skol accepte les dossiers en tout temps.

Prix Albert-Dumouchel pour la relève 2013

ARPRIM est heureux d’annoncer l’ouverture du Prix Albert-Dumouchel pour la relève 2013. Ce concours annuel s’adresse aux étudiants universitaires de premier cycle en arts visuels ou tous autres programmes connexes ayant une pratique liée aux arts imprimés. Les étudiants ayant accumulé un minimum de 45 crédits et privilégiant des techniques ou des langages visuels reliés à l’art imprimé sont invités à participer d’ici le 15 avril 2013.
Les œuvres des finalistes du concours, sélectionnées par un jury d’artistes professionnels, seront présentées chez ARPRIM lors de l’exposition Première impression, qui se tiendra du 31 mai au 15 juin 2013. Le dévoilement du lauréat du Prix Albert-Dumouchel pour la relève 2013 aura lieu le soir du vernissage. Ce lauréat se verra remettre un prix d’une valeur totale de 1000 $, incluant, entre autres, une résidence de création de deux semaines dans un centre de production en art imprimé et une bourse de 200 $.
Soutenant la relève en art imprimé depuis plus de 20 ans, le Prix Albert-Dumouchel a pour mandat d’encourager l’émergence de nouvelles pratiques en art imprimé chez les jeunes artistes. Avec Première impression, il offre une vitrine unique pour les talents émergents en plus de favoriser l’insertion professionnelle de la relève.

Annonce de la période de mise en candidature pour le Concours de peintures canadiennes de RBC
La période de mise en candidature pour le Concours de peintures canadiennes de RBC est maintenant commencée. Pour souligner le quinzième anniversaire du Concours, RBC accordera des prix totalisant 115 000 $, ce qui fait de ce concours le plus important du genre au Canada. Le lauréat national recevra 25 000 $, les deux gagnants d’une mention honorable recevront 15 000 $ chacun. De plus, pour souligner le quinzième anniversaire du Concours, les 12 autres finalistes toucheront chacun 5 000 $.
Créé en 1999, le Concours de peintures canadiennes de RBC fait connaître des artistes canadiens émergents. Dans le cadre de ce concours parrainé par la Canadian Art Foundation, un jury composé de membres respectés du monde canadien des arts visuels sélectionnera cinq œuvres dans les régions de l’Est, de l’Ouest et du Centre du Canada, pour en arriver à un total de 15 demi-finalistes.
Les noms de ces demi-finalistes seront annoncés le 14 juin 2013, et ceux des gagnants seront dévoilés à l’occasion d’une réception qui aura lieu le 2 octobre 2013 au Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, à Ottawa.

About the Festival
The Art Marathon Festival is a celebration of contemporary art held each August in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Local, national, and international artists come together to present unique performances of their work, share skills in public workshops, take part in provoking discussions, and participate in a 24 hour marathon of live art making. The festival is organized by Eastern Edge Gallery: a not for profit artist-run centre committed to exhibiting contemporary art in diverse media.
For the first time, the Art Marathon Festival will have a core focus: Dreamworlds. This year, we are inviting artists to explore the worlds of their dreams – utopias, dystopias, fantasies, and delusions. For generations artists have provided new models of thinking, acting and being. From designing our cities to engaging one another, artists suggest and possibilities emerge. Ideas tumble from the dream world to the real world.

RBC Canadian Painting Competition Announces Call for Submissions
The RBC Canadian Painting Competition is officially accepting submissions. To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the RBC Canadian Painting Competition, RBC will award a total of $115,000 in prize money, making it the largest prize of its kind in Canada. The national winner will receive $25,000, two honourable mentions $15,000 each and in recognition of the 15th anniversary, the remaining 12 finalists will be awarded $5,000 each.
Established in 1999, the RBC Canadian Painting Competition recognizes emerging artists from across Canada. Adjudicated by the Canadian Art Foundation, a jury of distinguished members from the Canadian arts community will select five paintings from the eastern, western and central regions of Canada, for a total of 15 finalists.
The finalists will be announced June 14, 2013 and the RBC Canadian Painting Competition winners revealed at a gala event at the National Gallery in Ottawa on October 2, 2013.

A $25,000 Award to an Outstanding Emerging Canadian Painter
JOSEPH PLASKETT, Canadian-born painter who lived in Paris for many years, established his foundation and this award in 2004 to facilitate his vision of supporting an outstanding Canadian graduate student or recent MFA graduate in the discipline of painting to travel, make art, or study in Europe for one year. Since 2009, the Plaskett Foundation has partnered with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) to lend expertise and to administer the award process. Coordinated by artist and Emily Carr Professor Landon Mackenzie, the philosophy of the Foundation is that strong juries choose strong candidates, which in turn enhances the integrity of this prestigious award.

Prefix Photo encourages submissions of new or previously unpublished photography for editorial consideration. Submissions should include visual support material in the form of digital files, 35mm slides, transparencies, work prints, laser prints, etc.; a written description of the work, if available; and a curriculum vitae of the artist. The number of images submitted remains at the discretion of the artist, with a recommended maximum of 20. Prefix Photo encourages submissions of writer’s outlines for new critical essays of 3000-4000 words in length, but does not consider completed manuscripts for publication. Outlines should be no more than 250 words in length, and may be supported by one or two previously published texts. Outlines are accepted at any time, but should be submitted at least six months in advance of a projected publication date. If accepted for publication, the deadline for the submission of the completed essay is approximately three months in advance of an issue’s release. Prior to publication, writers will be consulted regarding editorial revisions and writer’s fee. Please note that, in addition to critical essays, Prefix Photo also reviews proposals for literary features of 600-800 words. Decolonial Aesthetics From The Americas is a multidisciplinary and
collaborative symposium for artists and scholars of the Americas and the
Caribbean. Featuring papers, workshops, performances, and online
components, the symposium will provide an unparalleled opportunity to
engage the diversity of contemporary aesthetic practices informed by
decolonial thought. A special issue of FUSE Magazine, to be published in
September 2013, will serve as a reader. We invite separate proposals for the
symposium and for the magazine, and especially welcome joint proposals
that work across both platforms.
Submissions should engage the current state of aesthetics and the
contemporary artistic sphere in the Americas. In addition to the traditional
formats of papers and panel sessions, we will incorporate a wider artistic

TORONTO OUTDOOR ART EXHIBITION PRESENTS: ART NOW 2013
July 5 – 7, 2013, Nathan Phillips Square
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: April 15, 2013 @ 5PM
Art Now is a three-day alternative art program that runs concurrently with the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition (TOAE). It compliments and expands the range of work presented at TOAE to include performance, video, installation and other media that represent the diversity and vibrancy of Toronto’s art community but that have traditionally fallen outside the commercial parameters of TOAE.
Art Now animates TOAE through a series of spaces and events throughout Nathan Phillips Square, bringing over 100,000 visitors in contact with artists who create time-based and site-specific work. Art Now provokes discussion about the nature and purpose of art fairs and who participates, questioning issues of commercial and non-commercial art practices.
There is no cost to participate. Artist fees will be paid in accordance with the CARFAC fee schedule.
Opportunities to participate:
TOAE invites interdisciplinary artists from Toronto to propose innovative artwork that explores current issues shaping contemporary art, the role of the art fair as an agent in the commercialization of art, and/or the theme of « art relief » as outlined below.
We seek applications for installations, sculpture, performance art, video and integrated media that are appropriate for:
1. Outdoor display. Show organizers will assign spaces throughout Nathan Phillips Square.
OR
2. Installation in, on or around dedicated restrooms, based on the theme of « art relief. » We invite artists to consider what « relief » could mean in the context of an art fair. For example, how can relief be provided from art? From the commercial art world? From the experience of visiting an outdoor art show? Non-functioning bathrooms (identical in appearance to the rows of porta-potties provided for visitors on the edge of the square) will be scattered around the site to encourage contemplation in isolation from the rest of TOAE. These small exhibition spaces can house video screens and will also be made available for artists to use the interiors and exteriors in creative ways. Note that no permanent alterations may be made to the restrooms, and any videos should be of an appropriate length for one sitting.
With the exception of technology-based artwork, all works should be suitable for installation outdoors and for all audiences. Proposals should account for visitor safety. All proposals are subject to approval by the City of Toronto.

• Statement describing the proposed work for exhibition, how it would be installed and how visitors might interact with it

• A brief bio (150 words maximum) and CV (two pages maximum)
• Artists proposing new work should include examples of previous work, especially if it is relevant to the proposed project

Selected artists will be notified by the end of April, 2013.
The exhibition will take place at Nathan Phillips Square from July 5 – 7, 2013.
All selected artists will be expected to install and tear down their own work. Artists must provide all materials for installation. Media-based artists must submit a screening quality DVD. Artists are also encouraged to be present during the three-days of the exhibition to greet the public and answer any questions about their work.
TOAE is pleased to announce that Rafi Ghanaghounian, a Toronto-based artist and curator, will join this year’s Art Now selection committee as guest curator.

PaperWait is an annual publication published by aceartinc. that covers our programming year- in this case July 2012 to July 2013. It is primarily made up of the texts produced through our Critical Distance writing program that encourages critical writing and dialogue about contemporary art but it is also an archive of the year’s regular and special programming. It’s that time of year once again for you to submit your film, video, radio and new media works for the 14th annual imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival. This year’s Festival runs from October 16-20, 2013 in Toronto, Canada. imagineNATIVE is an international Festival that celebrates the latest works by Indigenous peoples at the forefront of innovation in film, video, radio and new media. Each fall, the Festival presents a selection of the most compelling and distinctive Indigenous works from Canada and around the globe. The works accepted reflect the diversity of the world’s Indigenous nations and illustrate the vitality and excellence of our art and culture in contemporary media.

In the email “Subject” line, type “Tracking 2013 -” followed by the title of your work. FILM/VIDEO ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
(see website for radio and new media eligibility details, under “Festival Info” then “Artists”):
imagineNATIVE considers film, video, radio and new media (web-based) works made by Canadian and international Indigenous artists. The Festival strives to represent a diversity of ideas, themes and genres in its programming. The Festival prioritizes works that balance unique content, cultural and social relevance, and a creative approach to form characterized by innovative expression, distinctive style, and personal vision. Priority is given to works that have not yet been broadcast in Canada or on the Internet. International and Canadian premiere status is also a consideration. News reports, extended reportage, television magazine formats, and information programming or segments (such as PSAs) are not eligible.
Dramatic or documentary episodic series led and produced by Indigenous production companies are eligible to submit programs and episodes to the Festival’s Mediatheque, an on-site video library of all submitted work to the Festival, which industry distributors, broadcasters and programmers screen for acquisition and programming needs. NOTE: TV Series works are not screened publicly at the Festival, nor eligible for awards.
RULES:
• imagineNATIVE exhibits works that have been created by an Indigenous person in a key, active creative role as director, writer or producer.
• Films must have been completed on or after January 1, 2011.
• All non-English language films must have English subtitles on screeners or English transcripts for the programmers.
• Preview and exhibition tapes must have no commercial blacks or broadcaster promos.
• Each film must have its own screening copies (2) and submission form. Compilations will not be accepted.
• New! In addition to DVD discs, submitters are encouraged to provide an online screener link (private, password protected on Vimeo or YouTube) for the programming team to review. This is strongly encouraged if your work is submitted past the June 1 free deadline.
• Illegible or incomplete submission forms will not be accepted.
The deadline for all submissions is June 15, 2013, but if your work is not final (ie. rough cut) for screening by June 15 and you wish it to be considered for this year’s Festival, please contact programming [arobas] imagineNATIVE [point] org prior to the free submission deadline of June 1. Late submissions without previous contact with the Programming Team will be subject to a $25 CAD fee and may not be considered.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:
imagineNATIVE charges no fees for submission forms received online or written with DVD packages postmarked by June 1, 2013. Late submissions must have online forms received and DVD packages postmarked by June 15.

SHIPPING DETAILS:
• DO NOT courier tapes to Canada via UPS (United Parcel Service) as you may be liable for customs’ duties, which the festival will not pay, and your DVDs will be returned.
• DO NOT send “Cash on Delivery” (C.O.D.) or the package will NOT be accepted.
• DO NOT send submissions in fibre-filled envelopes as the dust can damage screeners and viewing equipment.
• Preview tapes/DVDs will not be returned unless specifically requested and a self-addressed envelope with Canadian postage is provided.

Sound Development City is a project by Sound Development which enables a close exchange between artists of various backgrounds.
In the course of a summer expedition, 10 selected artists from the areas of music, performance and other cultural fields experience and revive urban spaces. “Dancing Partners” is this year’s focus of the expedition, which will take us to Lisbon and Marseille: While one city is hosting the Architecture Triennial, the other is European Capital of Culture 2013, and both unite many contradictions that we would like to address.
We are looking for works and projects that strike up new connections in urban settings, make the world clang, give room for the frailty of the provisional.

Call for Performances

How can we imagine collectivity in the present moment, after new media, when connection is often mediated down to 140 characters, coalitions are negotiated through Facebook and embodied occupations of the streets have reinvigorated people around the world? The Convergence 2013 Curatorial Committee,Zach Blas, Micha Cárdenas and Dino Dinco, invite artists to propose performances within the theme and practice of “Experimental Collectivities.” We are particularly interested in exploring methods that will collectively produce and critique systems of knowledge/power.
The 2nd Hemi GSI Convergence will be an exploratory space of lateral collaboration and alternative pedagogy among scholars, artists and activists from throughout the Americas. Convergence 2013 will be jointly hosted by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of Southern California (USC) on October 11–13, 2013. Hemi GSI will also plan an optional pre-Convergence hosted by University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in La Jolla and Tijuana on October 10th, 2013.
The performance nights at Convergence 2013 will take place on and off campus, in collaboration with local art galleries and can include performances in public space. The exact venues are still being determined.

Asia Art Archive (AAA) initiated Open Platform in 2011 for cultural practitioners to present their projects on a global stage. This year, as ongoing cultural partner of Art Basel’s Hong Kong show, AAA’s Open Platform transitions from stage to booth by offering a platform for researchers, curators, writers, artists, students, academics, and art organisations to hold open meetings that might further their ongoing projects, catalyse new ones, or simply be an opportunity to make connections. AAA will provide coffee and tea to fuel discussions, and applicants may request the use of AAA’s rolodex to reach out to people they wish to invite. Meetings will not be recorded, and although applicants are free to invite AAA staff, there is no obligation to do so. Rouge is currently considering proposals for experimental performances
for its festival in Tallinn, Estonia from October 17th till the 20th,
2013.
Dimanche
Rouge has rapidly grown into one of the largest monthly experimental
performance festivals in Europe, presenting the work of over 600 artists
from more than 60 countries in Paris and abroad since February 2011.
The
festival will be hosted at some of the most important Estonian art
institutions including Kumu Art Museum, one of the largest art museums
in the Baltics; Kultuurikatel, a unique international cultural center
and former power plant where Tarkovsky filmed Stalker;
Culture Factory Polymer/ Art Container, one of the main strong points
for alternative culture in Tallinn, as well as at the iconic Sokos Hotel
Viru.
Artists will also be able to take advantage of a program of roundtable discussions, workshops and talks.
Performances proposed must be experimental and contain a live element.
Work we program,
- multimedia, dance, performance art, video, sound, interventions, street art, and spoken word

festivals such as hairstyle, cuisine, tattoo, massage, sports, the

A l’occasion de la première édition du concours Archi’Court, le CAUE 31 lance un appel à projets pour des créations vidéos autour de l’architecture.
Le concours Archi’Court a pour objectif la valorisation de la culture architecturale, de l’urbanisme et du paysage au travers du regard de jeunes créateurs vidéos.
L’appel à candidature s’adresse à des créateurs de tous bords, cinéphiles, architectes, documentaristes, vidéastes, étudiants, qu’ils soient amateurs ou proféssionnels, désireux d’exprimer l’architecture, l’urbanisme ou le paysage au travers de la vidéo. La création est libre mais doit suivre le fil conducteur d’une thématique donnée.

This two-day symposium will explore issues surrounding Performance, the Body and Time in the 21st century. How is the ever-increasing pace of technology generation affecting us as artists and audiences? How have the advances made in the 21st century changed the way we create, the way we consume and how we collaborate?
The premier exist conference will take place 26- 27 June. It will be held at the Queensland College of Art – Project Gallery, Brisbane. The Queensland College of Art, established in 1881, is one of Australia’s longest-running art and design colleges and is situated at Brisbane’s South Bank.

SAVVY.DOC is a platform structured to assemble, organize and classify documentation of performance artists around the world, focused on African, Asian and Latin-American performance documentation (but also featuring Western artists); in three different media: photography, video and text. It works as a corporeal catalog for art curators, intellectuals, performance art aficionados and performance artists.
Our main goal is to build a public database accessible to research, study and learn about the different approaches of contemporary performance art, parting from the geographical context and each artist’s reality, aiming to have a socially engaged didactical platform that allow non-western artists have presence in the European spectrum

DIY 10:2013 Call for Proposals
Deadline for proposals: 12noon Monday 8th April 2013.
To mark the tenth anniversary of DIY, 2013 will be a bumper year with 20 projects supported across the UK.
DIY is an opportunity for artists working in Live Art to conceive and run unusual training and professional development projects for other artists.
We want to hear from you if have an idea for an exciting, innovative and idiosyncratic Live Art professional development project that offers something new and is geared to the eclectic and often unusual needs of artists whose practices are grounded in challenging and unconventional approaches, forms and concepts.
We are planning to support twenty DIY projects that will take place between July and November 2013. Each project will receive £1,000 support.
DIY projects may take any form, and can be loosely or rigorously focused on an idea or theme of your choosing. However, we also welcome proposals that specifically respond to one of the following themes. Eleven of the twenty DIY projects will be selected according to these opportunities:

Arts Council Windsor & Region (ACWR), Broken City Lab (BCL) and The City of Windsor are pleased to announce the launch of Neighbourhood Spaces: Windsor & Region Artist in Residence Program, a new initiative that will locate ten chosen artists in community sites throughout Windsor and Essex County in Ontario, for 4-6 week artist residences. Supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, this new program will allow artists to pursue research and/or create work(s) that engage, explore and connect with local communities. The program is inviting applications from Canadian artists of all disciplines including visual, performing, literary, music, interdisciplinary and media arts.
Neighbourhood Spaces will embed artists in community sites such as parks, nature reserves, libraries, health or community centres. These sites will provide a “home base” for each artist to work during their residency, while also allowing the artist to take on diverse roles, engaging with community members in various ways to animate, explore and inspire the specific stories, curiosities, challenges and triumphs of the local community.
Curated by Broken City Lab, residencies will begin in summer 2013 and be staggered throughout the year, concluding in August 2014. There is no application or residency fee. Each artist will receive $4750, which includes an artist fee and funding to assist in covering travel, housing (for the duration of the residency), material and per diem expenses. While housing is not provided, Neighbourhood Spaces is available to assist artists in finding accommodations. A final exhibition and symposium will be held in the fall of 2014 and an online publication will be created documenting the program.
The Program Coordinator will serve as a liaison between the artists and community site and will be available to assist in documenting work, promoting events and connecting to local resources, including organizations, artists, and volunteers. Along with a standardized submission form and artistic support materials, applicants are asked to outline their ideal neighbourhood site. The Residency Program allows for focused work, uninterrupted by the professional and personal demands of daily life, in a diverse and stimulating community of fellow residents. Pixel Palace are inviting applications from artists working in new technologies and moving image for this year’s Artists in Residence programme based at Tyneside Cinema (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK). This opportunity is open to artists based in the UK and internationally.
The Artists in Residence programme is now in its third year, offering artists the opportunity to develop new work within a peer supported environment that engages with the working cinema and its surroundings.
Pixel Palace Artists in Residence programme offers:

Implanté sur les « Hauts de Cergy », quartier le plus récent de Cergy, Visages du Monde est un équipement socioculturel porté par la ville, en régie directe. Candidats admissibles : architectes de paysage, architectes, urbanistes, chercheurs, historiens ou autres professionnels spécialisés en architecture (par exemple : commissaires indépendants, plasticiens, designers, photographes, etc.) – Résidents permanents de la région montréalaise.
La Maison de l’architecture du Québec (MAQ) est fière d’offrir, pour une deuxième année, à un ou une candidat-e sélectionné-e sur dossier par un jury des pairs, l’occasion de bénéficier de la résidence d’architecture Arborescence*, une résidence dédiée strictement à l’architecture et ses disciplines affiliées (architecture de paysage, urbanisme, design urbain, histoire et théorie de l’architecture).
Ce projet-pilote original est développé en collaboration avec le Conseil des arts de Montréal (CAM) et la propriétaire hôte. Suite au choix du candidat qui se fera début juin 2013 (dépôt des dossiers avant le 31 mai), le séjour aura lieu dès l’automne de cette année.
Arborescence vise à offrir un contexte de séjour favorisant le développement de la création et des connaissances dans les disciplines architecturales, voire à faire fleurir les échanges et les projets créatifs bilatéraux France-Montréal. Le résident séjourne six semaines dans une demeure gasconne traditionnelle, au coeur d’un minuscule hameau d’une cinquantaine d’habitants nommé Roques, dans le Gers (France). Souvent surnommée la Toscane française, cette région agricole centrée sur la culture du tournesol, la production de l’Armagnac et autres produits du terroir, se situe à une heure de Toulouse et deux heures de Bordeaux.
Les vastes bâtisses de la demeure hôte, datant du XIIIe au XIXe siècle, entourent un jardin naturel, un potager et un verger, composant un ensemble rural d’une rare authenticité, objet de cinq ans de restaurations sous la direction d’un architecte du patrimoine. Les charpentiers qui ont reconstitué les structures à l’identique (père et fils) résident à Roques et figurent parmi les personnes-ressources qu’un architecte montréalais aura plaisir à rencontrer.
Propice à la concentration pour un projet d’écriture ou de création dans la calme solitude, ce cadre offre aussi un accès privilégié à une région encore préservée, peu gâchée par le tourisme et d’une exceptionnelle richesse, tant du point de vue du patrimoine bâti et du vivace savoir-faire qui s’y rattache (qu’on pense aux maîtres artisans, par exemple) que du point de vue de l’histoire des paysages et du développement villageois ancien, qu’au plan des arts contemporains. À deux heures de Bordeaux (et de son centre d’exposition en architecture et art mondialement célèbre Arc en rêve), Roques permet aussi de rayonner à plus large échelle.
À noter que l’hôte propriétaire, muséologue canadienne, est présidente du Centre d’art et de photographie de Lectoure (à 30 km de Roques) et pourra faire bénéficier le résident de son riche réseau de contacts, en qualité de personne-ressource.

NOTE D’INTENTION
Camille Debray invite Marianne Derrien, commissaire d’expositions et critique d’art indépendante à co-diriger cette quatrième édition. Avec Mélanie Legas, chargée de production, ils forment l’équipe de coordination.
Cette année, la résidence Suddenly s’intéresse aux pratiques transcuratoriales : artistes intégrant le commissariat à leur pratique, commissaires et théoriciens proposant des modalités originales questionnant les enjeux de l’exposition.
Six artistes, théoriciens et commissaires cohabiteront et travailleront ensemble 17 jours et à plein temps. Suddenly s’articule autour d’un travail en commun où les notions d’échange et de recherche sont centrales. Les productions théoriques et plastiques des résidents sont à la fois outils et vecteurs du déroulement de ce temps de travail.
Le rôle de l’équipe de coordination est d’assurer le bon fonctionnement de la résidence et d’impulser des axes de recherche. Elle définit un cadre de travail original et orchestre la résidence en proposant des « règles du jeu ».
ETOILE MANQUANTE
Ainsi, pour sa 4ème édition, la Résidence Suddenly active les champs de force entre artistes et commissaires. Gravitant autour de la question de l’exposition, leurs rapports s’avèrent complexes. Parfois complémentaires, l’antagonisme intrinsèque de leur démarche ouvre un dialogue prolifique.
Artistes et commissaires collaborent, observent leurs démarches respectives et prennent position. Certaines expositions sèment le trouble: sans commissaires, sans artistes, sans oeuvres ou encore sans auteurs. L’exposition est-elle devenue objet de conflits ? Certains systèmes mis en place sont-ils plus légitimes? Le spectateur est pris à parti, et peine parfois à se repérer dans cet espace d’investigation dynamique qu’est devenue l’exposition.
Phénomène récent, le commissaire d’exposition tient aujourd’hui une position forte dans la cosmologie de l’art contemporain. Le « canon curatorial » semble insaisissable. En quête d’identité, chacun tente de dessiner les contours d’une profession qui s’invente. Une position parfois obscure, aux facettes multiples.
Au delà de la question de statut et d’identité liée à une profession émergent les enjeux artistiques de l’exposition. Certains artistes brouillent les pistes, scintillent eux aussi au coeur de la nébuleuse curatoriale. Puisque penser l’exposition est indissociable de la production artistique, elle est parfois envisagée comme matériau et s’inscrit dans une démarche globale, rayonnement d’un tout.
La pluralité des pratiques curatoriales s’avère motrice et force de proposition engendrant une réflexion vivante aux enjeux tangibles, une histoire en train de s’écrire.
CONDITIONS
L’appel à candidature est ouvert à toute personne ayant achevé ses études, sans restriction d’âge, ni de nationalité.
Les candidatures doivent présenter un intérêt particulier pour les questions curatoriales et de production et à mener un travail en commun. En outre, il sera demandé d’établir un regard transversal et critique à l’égard de ces domaines. Les résidents sont invités à s’impliquer activement tant dans les recherches artistiques que dans la vie et les tâches quotidiennes de Suddenly.
La résidence offre l’hébergement, l’utilisation des ateliers techniques, une communication soutenue ainsi que l’organisation d’événements publics. Une aide collective à la production est prévue pour les réalisations.
Sous réserve de subventions, les transports seront défrayés à hauteur maximale de 100€ par personne et les repas couverts par la résidence.
Enfin, les participants s’engagent à être présent pendant les deux semaines consécutives et à temps plein. Une convention devra être signée par les futurs résidents.

Visiting Artist (VA)/Instructor/Researcher – Ceramics
This is a nine (9) month appointment over two (2) terms commencing August 20, 2013 to May 31, 2014. To complement existing instructional resources, this position will instruct four (4) six (6) hour-long studio courses at all levels of the undergraduate BFA in Ceramics program. The successful candidate will receive a stipend of $16,000.00 towards research and studio practice and will be required to report and present on research activities as well as mount an exhibition of their studio practice and research at the college.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have an MFA or an equivalent degree or combination of education and professional experience in ceramics, previous teaching experience, a professional exhibition record as a ceramist, excellent technical skills and a wide knowledge of all aspects of the discipline, with a particular regard for the international ceramics profession. Applicants with a studio practice and teaching experience in pottery are particularly sought for this academic year.
The successful candidate will be community-oriented; comfortable interacting with students, faculty, artists, and the public; and demonstrate a balanced approach between research, practice, and pedagogy. The incumbent will be expected to participate in Ceramics program activities and administrative workload.

2013 Artist in Residency – Call to Artists
The 2013 Wood Buffalo Artist in Residency program will host two studio locations including both McMurray and Anzac. The residencies include dedicated studio space (with no associated fee) commencing on June 5, 2013 in Fort McMurray and July 31, 2013 in Anzac. Atelier Topaz – résidence

Le lieu
Situés au cœur de la forêt boréale, les Ateliers Topaz sont à la fois un lieu de retraite et un centre de création pour artistes, toutes disciplines confondues. L’endroit parfait pour la réflexion, l’évasion. Le groupement d’édifices fait 900 mètres carrés et repose sur 14 hectares face à la route Transcanadienne. Il donne sur un étang de deux hectares. Topaz c’est la « Route 66 » dans le nord de l’Ontario. L’endroit, modeste et nostalgique, rappelle aussi les grandes épopées de la colonisation francophone de l’Ontario. Ces studios de création ou cette résidence d’artistes, endroit idéal pour les arts visuels, sont situés au centre du Canada, à mi-chemin entre l’Atlantique et le Pacifique, là où les étoiles deviennent les topazes de la nuit.
Ce qu’on offre
D’abord l’espace et, l’espace de travail déterminés selon les besoins de l’artiste. Les espaces polyvalents permettent d’y faire de la peinture, de la sculpture, de l’installation, etc. L’atelier de menuiserie, le Bar à clou, est équipé des outils de base. Un magasin d’objets trouvés est disponible autant pour l’inspiration que pour l’utilisation dans une œuvre. Le peintre apporte ses pinceaux, le musicien son instrument et l’écrivain son ordi. Les personnes qui séjournent aux Ateliers Topaz jouissent de l’accès à la cuisine et sont responsables de préparer leurs repas. Toutefois Laurent peut aussi leur cuisiner de petits plats typiquement canadiens-français aux besoins ou aux désirs. Topaz possède deux suites avec lit double et une chambre avec lit simple. Chacune possède sa salle de toilette avec douche. Ces installations évoquent admirablement le style des années 1960. Pour la baignade, le Lac des Cœurs se situe à deux kilomètres à l’est. Pour le canotage ou la pèche, la rivière Opasatika est deux kilomètres à l’ouest. Pour se déplacer, il y a de vieux vélos ou la marche. Pour un frais très raisonnable, votre hôte peut aussi vous conduire ou organiser un déplacement vers Kapuskasing à l’est ou vers Hearst à l’ouest. Les matériaux d’artistes ne sont pas disponibles dans la région. Introduction
In 2012 the Art Committee within the Sheridan Space Enhancement Task Force developed
a proposal for an annual temporary installation of a contemporary artwork on Sheridan’s Trafalgar campus. The inaugural installation was Derek Sullivan’s Endless Kiosk 2005, which was installed in the Learning Commons in August 2012 and continued on display until the end of March 2013.
There is a commitment at Sheridan to continue this on an annual basis.
Objectives
In keeping with Sheridan’s Mission Statement that “Sheridan delivers a premier, purposeful educational experience in an environment renowned for creativity and innovation”
the Contemporary Temporary Art Installation has four objectives:
1. To bring innovative and original artwork by high profile artists into the Sheridan community.
2. To enrich the experience of students, faculty and staff at the Sheridan Trafalgar campus with stimulating and challenging artwork.
3. To integrate this artwork into curriculum through an artist’s talk, workshops and projects related to the installed artwork.
4. To link the Sheridan Community to the broader cultural and artistic milieu

Adjudication Process
1. A six-member Selection Committee made up of representatives from Sheridan and from the larger arts community will assess initial proposals.
2. This Selection Committee will select three proposals from all those submitted to consider for possible implementation. Each of the three finalists will be invited to the Trafalgar Campus in Oakville to tour the proposed site with representatives from Facilities Mangagement, Health & Satety department and members of the Selection Committee. Based on the recommenda- tions of these three groups a single work will be selected from the three proposals. A repre- sentative from the Selection Committee will contact the successful candidate.
Timeline
1. Deadline for submission of proposals: April 30, 5pm.
2. Selection of three proposals: May 15
3. Site visit and approval of installation site and method of attaching artwork to selected location: May 15 – May 30. We will work with the successful candidate to coordinate shipping and installation.
4. Installation date: August 15-31.
5. De-installation date: Late April or early May (to be negotiated).
Payment Schedule
1. Each of the three finalists being considered will receive $250 for their proposal and site visit expenses.
2. The successful artist (or candidate) will receive $5,000 paid in three installments:
a. Upon notification of being chosen the successful candidate – 25%
b. After delivery and installation of the artwork at Sheridan’s Trafalgar Campus in Oakville – 50%
c. Within 30 days of the work’s de-installation date – 25%
3. The successful artist will be entitled to a shipping allowance of up to $1,000 (original receipts required).
4.The successful artist will be entitled to an installation allowance of up to $1,000 (original re- ceipts required).
5. Insurance during transit to/from Sheridan College is the responsibility of the artist.
Publicity and Documentation
1. The artwork will be publicized both within and outside the Sheridan community through Akimbo, Sheridan Broadcast Television, Sheridan E-News and other promotional outlets.
2. Sheridan faculty will document the artwork, so that image files can be provided to the artist, media and the institution.
Curriculum Integration
There is an expectation of an artist’s talk and integration of the artwork into curriculum at Sheridan.

Central Coast Salish First Nations Public Art Project

The City of Port Moody, City of the Arts, invites Central Coast Salish First Nations artists to submit their qualifications for an opportunity to design, fabricate and install an original public art work for the City. The selected artist, or artist team, will be responsible for the implementation of an outdoor public art commission and will be responsible for identifying a location for the artwork within the boundaries of the City of Port Moody.
This Call for Qualifications does not require the preparation of a design proposal. Deadline for submission of qualifications is 12 noon on April 8, 2013.

THE CHALLENGE
This year’s challenge presents an opportunity to celebrate Vancouver’s creativity and educate the public about our water infrastructure. Creative citizen participation is key to City of Vancouver’s Greenest City 2020 Action Plan and the Culture Plan for Vancouver.
PRIZES
An independent panel of judges will review manhole cover designs and short list their choices. From this list, two winners will be chosen and receive a prize of $2000 each, in addition to seeing their designs cast in iron as manhole covers and placed at select locations in the city.
Another two honorary « people’s choice » award winners will be chosen by visitors to the exhibition of the submitted designs to be held at Vancouver’s Interurban Gallery at the end of May.

Prix du Nouvel-Ontario pour l’artiste Laurent Vaillancourt
C’est avec fierté et complicité que nous tenons à féliciter Laurent Vaillancourt, artiste-membre fondateur de la Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario. À l’occasion de la 40e Nuit sur l’étang, Laurent est devenu récipiendaire du très prestigieux Prix du Nouvel-Ontario.
Le Prix du Nouvel-Ontario a été créé en 1983, lors du 10e anniversaire de la Nuit sur l’étang afin de reconnaître l’excellence dans les domaines des arts et des lettres en Ontario français. Le Prix souligne la qualité, l’originalité et l’impact de l’œuvre d’un individu ou d’un organisme sur la communauté. Parmi les récipiendaires, il y a le folkloriste Germain Lemieux, les auteurs-compositeurs-interprètes Robert Paquette et Paul Demers et le dramaturge, romancier et traducteur Jean-Marc Dalpé.
Ce fut l’année parfaite pour présenter le prix à Laurent, qui célèbre cette année 40 ans de production en arts visuels. En fait, il présentait sa première exposition à la première Nuit sur l’Étang en 1973, dans la foulé du mouvement d’éveil culturel de l’Ontario français.
