Appel de dossier / 2010
Date limite: 31 janvier 2010

A) – Des projets de création artistique utilisant le livre comme véhicule et objet d’art (livre d’artiste, livre hors normes, etc.);
B) – Des monographies sur le travail d’artistes visuels;

VOTRE DOSSIER DOIT COMPRENDRE :

* ARTISTES ÉMERGENTS

Appel de dossiers 2010-2011

date de tombée : 30 novembre 2009

Programmation Mon espace / Your space

Votre dossier doit comprendre :

– Textes format “.PDF”, “.DOC” ou “.RTF”;
– Images format “.JPG” seulement;
– présenter des fichiers compatibles avec PC seulement;
– soumettre des images d’une résolution de 72ppp n’excédant pas 1.0 Mo;

– des présentations sous forme PowerPoint;
– des fichiers compressés (au moyen de WinZip ou de Stuffit, par exemple);

Centre SAGAMIE
Call for proposals for 2010
Deadline: January 31, 2010

Programs:
1-ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCES 2-PUBLICATIONS 3-EXHIBITIONS

1-ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCES
Artists are invited to submit residency projects requiring digital image manipulation in contemporary art and large-format digital printing. Artists in residence at the Centre SAGAMIE redefine digital intervention, develop new languages and explore new possibilities of artistic expression. They confront the issues and challenges of the contemporary creation of images, thereby making an essential contribution to a recognition of digital practice as a motive force for inquiry in contemporary art and as a factor in the expansion of multidisciplinary approaches in visual arts. Priority will be given to projects which propose innovative approaches that move beyond traditional artistic practices.

2-PUBLICATIONS
Artists, authors and curators are invited to submit their book projects. We consider that books represent a singular and autonomous artistic and literary locus of creativity, providing opportunity for innovation, a reconfiguration of the senses, hybridization, multiple interactions and ground-breaking research.

Our editorial program has divided the publications into three categories:
A)- Projects of artistic creativity in which the book is an art object in itself or serves to convey a particular artistic expression;
B)- Monographs on the work of visual artists;
C)- Books with a wider scope, dealing with current issues in contemporary art.

3-EXHIBITIONS
Artists and curators are invited to submit exhibition projects. The Centre SAGAMIE will publish a colour book to accompany each exhibition. Artists will be remunerated according to the CARFAC/RAAV fee schedule. The exhibition hall is spacious (floor space: 50’x30’, 15mx9m; ceiling: 11’, 3.4m) and is located in downtown Alma. The exhibition center welcomes all forms of contemporary artistic expression, with particular emphasis on projects exploring contemporary digital art. This forum for experimental artistic expression is made available to artists in order to promote the emergence of innovative and counter-current initiatives.

PROPOSALS MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
1- Indicate clearly at the top of your proposal which program you are applying for (Programs: 1- Artist-in-residences; 2- Publications; 3- Exhibitions.).
2- Indicate clearly at the top of your proposal whether you are over or under 35 years of age*.

8- If you wish your proposal to be returned, include SAS envelope.
9- Proposals received by e-mail will not be accepted.

Centre SAGAMIE

C.P. 517
Alma, Québec
Canada

* EMERGING ARTISTS
Please indicate clearly at the top of your proposal whether you are under or over 35 years of age. Emerging artists (35 years and under) will be evaluated within their peer group by the programming committee, as will more experienced artists, in order to facilitate the integration of the new generation of artists into the network of independent artists’ centers.

** PRINTING OF VISUAL DOCUMENTS
Note that you are now required to submit the entire proposal on standard size paper: curriculum vitae, artistic statement, project description, and especially the visual documents. It is very important that you print all the images submitted in support of your proposal. Each page may include one or several images, and project information may accompany each image. Please submit videos on DVD and, if possible, please have some images from the video printed on paper in order to allow the programming committee quicker access to your visual documents.

*** SOME ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PLACES ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR THE PERIOD FROM JANUARY TO JUNE 2010
Artists wishing to complete their artist-in-residence projects during this period are asked to submit their proposals as soon as possible, if possible before the deadline on January 31, 2010. How is this explored cinematically? containR will program a wide variety of work, both historical and contemporary, Canadian and International. containR is a street installation at the nexus of video, public art and urban design. Sited in downtown Vancouver during the Olympic and Paralympic Games (February – March 2010), containR sits at the cross roads of mountain and urban culture, art and sports cinema, embracing public art and sustainable design. CALL FOR ARTISTS: st[art] ARTIST RESIDENCY, CALGARY

DEADLINE EXTENSION TO NOVEMBER 30, 2009

The Calgary Allied Arts Foundation is accepting submissions for it’s artists residency program. The deadline has been extended to November 30, 2009 for residencies taking place between January and June of 2010.

Additional information and a PDF of the application form may be found at: http://caafonline.org/residency.html

st[art] was established in 2006 and was developed in response to the scarcity of studio and exhibition spaces available for visual artists in the City of Calgary. The residency gives artists and designers, both emerging and mid-career, the opportunity to work and exhibit in a studio on a short-term basis. The early success and popularity of the program based on studio space at Art Central in downtown Calgary encouraged CAAF to extend the program to a second studio space. This is in an historic warehouse at 319 – 10 Avenue SW, which has become a haven for many artist’s studios.

st[art] @ Art Central, the first studio space to be offered by CAAF, has been offered since July of 2006. Residencies in the space are offered on a one-month or two-month basis depending on programming requirements submitted by the artist. Although not large in size, it offers residents an excellent opportunity to work on small-scale pieces. At the same time, it provides them the opportunity to connect with other artists as well as members of the public on an ongoing basis. First Thursday a monthly event in downtown Calgary offers the residents an excellent opportunity to stage their own exhibition and to gain crucial exposure. Since its inception, st[art] has seen the number of applicants for the space exceed programming availability.

st[art] 4Five was created to offer artists a larger working space for a longer time period. Although not as visually accessible to the public, it provides residents an excellent opportunity to make contact with other working artists as well as allowing the option for exhibition openings. Residencies in the space are offered for three-month periods. st[art] 4Five began operating in July 2009.

Submissions for each st[art] space are juried twice-yearly. Applications submitted before the deadline date of Oct 31st are considered for residencies within the January-June period and applications submitted before the deadline date of April 30th are considered for residencies within the July-December period. Members of the st[art] committee review each submission and select successful applicants based on merit of proposal and programming requirements. Each residency allows for a monthly stipend of $500 as well as an exhibition allowance per residency of $100.

Questions about the st[art] program may be directed to:

The ART CONTAINER Gallery
Call out for artists – Estonia
Deadline: December 1st, 2009

I’M A REAL ARTIST
What does it mean to be a professional artist

Over the past decades – until, at least, global credit began to crunch our fun – the art world has developed into a high-turnover, high-visibility international activity of which everyone wants a slice of. Its an exponentially expanded system of artists, audiences, art market, dealers, galleries, curators, critics, collectors, museums, institutions, foundations, biennials, triennials and quadrennials, fairs, auction houses, arts schools, private and public universities, prizes, awards, mentions, contributions, books, magazines, newspapers agencies and consultancies.* If artists, critics, thinkers were willing to lend their intelligence and their insolence to the administration, we might witness the advent of a new society, freed from this pathetic, mediocre system of domination. The artists who I find interesting today are those who do not calculate anything and yet who are conscious of the mechanisms of domination and control; who know that art has to a large extent become the scene of a suspicious abduction, where all sorts of materialities – good or bad, clear or illegitimate – obey no rules except that of productivity.

This exhibition & performance local event in Estonia, with a possible residency for a maximum of four months, aims to share projects who may report on either an international “permanent discontinuity”, which is probably the source of the most interesting work today (something that we cannot identify), or ultimately something about the way the artist’s practice deal with the present, the economy, the violence, the copy, the sex, the hysteria, the authentic original, the reference or either way on the downright masochistic structure of an art world, a world bent on creating new jurisdictions just so it can better subject itself to constraint, pain and pleasure. Somehow something happens now which is neither new nor old, but a “present continuous past” perspective seems radically over. It is structurally difficult to adjust to this new art industry, dealing with convention of time defined by its campaigns of varying the effectiveness.

A professional ethic prevails over art, artists and their production and in that sense, I’m a Real Artist, which in this case embodies the real, is not about contributing positively to the demystification of all things, but rather to exclude any possibilities of being wrong in our artistic positioning.

16th International Studio Program of the ACC Galerie Weimar and the City of Weimar
Deadline: 7th December, 2009
Beyond Desire
http://www.acc-weimar.de/
The non-profit organization ACC (Autonomous Cultural Center) originated in 1987, before the fall of the Berlin wall, when students occupied a derelict Renaissance building in the center of the town where Goethe (inevitably) had had his first residence in Weimar (1776/77). Shortly before the reunification, ACC protagonists were able to secure the house with the aid of private sponsors. The institution now consists of a gallery and a café and offers a cultural program that includes theater, literature, and lecture series.
The studio is located in the historical Städtisches Atelierhaus (Municipal studio building), about ten minutes walk to the ACC Galerie Weimar in the town center. In addition to the visiting international artists, the well-lit studio building accommodates ten other Weimar artists.
ROOM AND BOARD: Rent-free furnished apartment in the Weimar Atelierhaus with telephone/answering machine and DSL internet; meals are available at ACC Café-Restaurant at reduced prices (70%).
PARTICIPATION: Artists who would like to produce works of art in accordance with the outlined theme can apply.
The jury will select three artists, each of whom will spend four months living and working in Weimar. Student’s applications cannot be accepted.
DISPLAY AND EXHIBITION: The ACC Galerie Weimar employs a curator who develops a conception and a publication together with the artists. During the residency the curator will decide together with the artists whether and how the selected work(s) will be presented at the ACC Galerie Weimar in 2010. Where appropriate, works of art will be displayed in public spaces in Weimar for time periods to be agreed upon with the artists. In case of a group exhibition of all Studio Program participants a small catalogue will be produced. It is intended that the artists are present during the preparation and for the opening of the exhibition.
ACC COLLECTION: The former participants of the program left one or two important works of art completed during their stay in Weimar to become part of the ACC Galerie Collection. It is up to the future participants to follow this tradition. The gallery and the artist(s) will select the works together.
WORK PERIODS: February 1st – May 31st, 2010; June 1st – September 30th, 2010; October 1st, 2009 – January 31st, 2011
STIPEND: The selected artists will receive a monthly stipend of 1.000€. In order to receive the stipend the artists have to live in Weimar during the work period. The artists are also expected to hold a lecture/talk at the ACC Galerie Weimar at the end of his/her stay in Weimar. In addition we offer free entry to public municipal institutions, such as the Museum of the History of Weimar, and to the museums of the Weimar Classic Foundation, such as the Weimar Art Collection, the Goethe National Museum, the Bauhaus Museum, the New Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Dutchess Anna Amalia Library. Participants are responsible for their own telephone bills and have to arrange for their own medical insurance.
LANGUAGES: English and German are official languages of the International Studio Program. Participants should have a solid grasp of either English or German.
TRAVEL: The participants must cover their own travel costs, although the program attempts to find additional funding in cooperation with the artists.
The application rules are enclosed in the entry form.
