Appel de candidatures pour un projet d’atelier ouvert d’une durée de cinq semaines
Échance pour la réception des dossiers : le 8 juillet 2009 à 17 heures
Dans le cadre de Skool –une expérience de programmation d‘été offerte par le Centre des arts actuels Skol–, le Bureau d’investigation d’archives (BIA) sollicite des candidatures pour participer à un projet d’atelier ouvert d’une durée de cinq semaines qui aura lieu du 14 juillet au 15 août 2009.
Le BIA mène une recherche dans les archives de la programmation récente de Skol qui permettra de faire de l’histoire du centre un lieu concret d’interaction, d‘échange et de production. Les participants auront accès à un espace de travail commun dans la galerie (matériaux et procédés non toxiques seulement) et au matériel tiré des archives de la programmation de Skol pour mener une recherche axée sur la production artistique. Chaque participant s’inspirera de sa démarche personnelle pour aborder les questions suivantes :
* Quels éléments peuvent constituer des archives?
* Quel rôle jouent les archives dans un centre d’artistes autogéré?
* Que peut-on apprendre en utilisant les archives comme matériau?
* De quelle façon les archives sont-elles utiles, et quelle est l’utilité des archives?
Les coordonnatrices du BIA, Sabrina Russo et Karen Zalamea, organiseront des réunions de groupe régulières pour encadrer le projet. Les participants auront accès à l’atelier pendant toute la semaine pour leur production indépendante et détermineront ensemble les jours où ils accueilleront le public. Les participants doivent pouvoir travailler de façon autonome et être disponibles pour participer à des discussions de groupe hebdomadaires sur leurs méthodes de travail. Il va de soi qu’on y abordera des enjeux concernant la production, la diffusion et la propriété du matériel archivistique réapproprié dans d’autres œuvres artistiques.
Dans l’esprit de son mandat, Skol encourage les artistes professionnels émergeants qui ont une approche expérimentale et critique à poser leur candidature. Bien que la langue de travail privilégiée à Skol soit le français, les participants pourront s’exprimer dans la langue de leur choix.
Les participants sélectionnés, au maximum de cinq, recevront un cachet de 250 $ et seront admis comme membre de Skol pour une période d’un an. On prévoit un petit budget pour le matériel qui sera partagé en fonction des besoins de chacun.
Les demandes de candidature doivent comporter les éléments suivants :
1. Une déclaration d’intérêt et des notes biographiques (1 page maximum) ;
2. Un curriculum vitae (2 pages maximum) ;
3. Un aperçu de la production artistique, présenté dans un des formats suivants :
* jusqu‘à 5 images d‘œuvres récentes (formats .jpg, 1024×768, 72dpi, RGB) et/ou
* un hyperlien vers une vidéo et/ou

Situé dans l’édifice La Filature – une ancienne filature industrielle magnifiquement rénovée -, DAÏMÕN offre des ressources de création, de production et de diffusion dans les domaines de la photographie et des arts médiatiques.
Par ses programmes Artiste résident, Recherche et création, Photographie et impression numérique et Soutien aux premières œuvres, DAÏMÕN encourage les artistes à repousser les limites de leur pratique et à développer de nouvelles approches par le biais de l’image, de la vidéo, ainsi que des arts sonores et électroniques, y compris les pratiques installatives, interactives et performatives. DAÏMÕN privilégie les projets qui font valoir le jeu de plus en plus complexe des médias entre eux et qui interrogent les zones intermédiaires et non seulement les langages constitués des médias utilisés. Seuls les projets comportant un certain degré de recherche sont considérés.
Avec son STUDIÕ, espace de production et de diffusion, DAÏMÕN favorise la mise en espace et la mise à l’essai d’œuvres d’envergure, ainsi que le développement des pratiques transversales. Des rencontres publiques y sont organisées régulièrement afin de permettre à la communauté de s’initier au travail des artistes accueillis en résidence. Ce STUDIÕ multifonctionnel est offert aux artistes pour l’expérimentation, la production et la présentation d’œuvres dont les composantes requièrent une infrastructure technique particulière.
DAÏMÕN met à la disposition des artistes des équipements de tournage et d’enregistrement, et des salles de montage audio et vidéo numérique. Une chambre noire permet des développements argentiques de grand format (1m32) à partir de négatifs pouvant aller jusqu’à 280 mm. Un service d’impression numérique (EPSON Stylus 9600 Pro) est également disponible.

Offert aux artistes professionnels de l’extérieur de la région Ottawa-Gatineau, ce programme veut promouvoir des échanges féconds entre les artistes d’ici et d’ailleurs. Il s’adresse aux artistes en mi-carrière et établis ou qui ont cumulé plus de cinq années de pratique dans un champ de recherche spécifique.
Le Centre fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un séjour de 4 à 6 semaines incluant l’hébergement, l’accès aux équipements du Centre et les services d’un technicien (60 heures). Un cachet de 1 500 $ est versé à l’artiste. Certaines indemnités de déplacement ainsi que des indemnités quotidiennes sont également payées par DAÏMÕN. Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes. DAÏMÕN organise une soirée-rencontre avec le public où l’artiste présente son travail antérieur et actuel.
Recherche et création
Ce programme est offert aux artistes professionnels de la relève, en mi-carrière ou établis. DAÏMÕN sélectionne six artistes par année, dont trois parmi les candidats de la région Ottawa-Gatineau et trois parmi les candidats en provenance de l’extérieur de la région. Le Centre encourage les candidatures des communautés francophones excentrées.
DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un encadrement technique et artistique, l’accès aux équipements du Centre pendant une durée de quatre (4) semaines et les services d’un technicien (50 heures). Certaines indemnités de déplacement ainsi que des indemnités quotidiennes sont également payées par DAÏMÕN pour les artistes de l’extérieur. Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes.
Photographie argentique et impression numérique
Ce programme vise à mieux soutenir la création sur support papier en chambre noire et en impression numérique.
DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation de chacun des projets, un encadrement technique et artistique; l’accès aux équipements du Centre pour la réalisation des projets pendant une durée de trois (3) semaines et les services d’un technicien (15 heures). Certaines indemnités de déplacement ainsi que des indemnités quotidiennes sont également payées par DAÏMÕN pour les artistes de l’extérieur. Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes. En photographie traditionnelle, les artistes doivent fournir leurs produits de développement et leurs papiers photographiques.
Soutien aux premières œuvres
DAÏMÕN maintient son soutien à la réalisation d’une première œuvre pour trois artistes de la région Ottawa-Gatineau. Les projets admissibles comportent la production d’une œuvre originale utilisant la vidéo, ou l’application de médias hybrides à des œuvres d’art.
Sont admissibles à ce programme, les jeunes artistes de la région Ottawa-Gatineau ayant une formation de base et voulant créer dans un contexte professionnel une première œuvre dans les champs de la pratique photographique, vidéographique ou des nouveaux médias. Les artistes professionnels de la région Ottawa-Gatineau ayant déjà une pratique artistique dans une autre discipline (peinture, sculpture, photographie, installation, etc.) et voulant développer une production en vidéo et/ou en nouveaux médias sont également admissibles.
DAÏMÕN fournit, pour la réalisation des projets un encadrement technique et artistique, l’accès aux équipements pendant une durée de trois (3) semaines et les services d’un technicien (30 heures). Tous les autres frais concernant la production de ces projets doivent être assumés par les artistes.
PRÉSENTATION DES DOSSIERS
Les artistes intéressés sont invités à prendre connaissance des conditions des programmes de création et à faire parvenir un dossier comprenant:
– une indication claire du choix du programme;
– un résumé du projet (5 lignes);
– un énoncé de la démarche artistique (1/2 page maximum);
– une description du projet (1 page maximum);
– une description des besoins techniques et un échéancier de production (1 page maximum);
– un curriculum vitæ (3 pages maximum);
– une documentation d’appui * accompagnée d’une liste descriptive;
– une enveloppe affranchie pour le retour du dossier.
* La documentation d’appui doit faire état de la production artistique et non seulement du projet à réaliser. La documentation d’appui peut inclure un maximum de 10 images (fichiers numériques, diapositives ou photographies), une bande VHS, un CD, un DVD (max. 5 min), une adresse URL ou une publication.
Pour les candidatures au programme Artiste résident, un maximum de 20 images (fichiers numériques, diapositives ou photographies), une bande VHS, un CD, un DVD (max. 10 min), une adresse URL ou une publication.
Pour avoir accès aux services et aux équipements du Centre, les artistes dont les projets auront été sélectionnés devront devenir membres actifs au coût de 75$.

L’Œil de Poisson invite les artistes et commissaires à soumettre leur projet pour la programmation 2010-2011 au plus tard le 15 octobre 2009 – le sceau de la poste faisant foi.
Le centre reçoit également en tout temps des dossiers pour l’Entrée vidéo et tout autre projet de soirées multidisciplinaires, de commissariat et de création en atelier. Tous les artistes sélectionnés ont accès gratuitement à nos ateliers de production pour une période d’un mois précédant leur exposition.

PLACE DE L’ADRESSE SYMPHONIQUE – CONCOURS PANCANADIEN D’ART PUBLIC
La Place de l’Adresse symphonique aura son œuvre d’art.
Et on en promet une monumentale et fragmentée. Un concours pancanadien doté d’un budget de 626 000$ a été lancé par la Ville de Montréal afin de doter cette future place publique du Quartier des spectacles d’une signature unique.
Les artistes désirant participer au concours auront jusqu’au 7 août pour soumettre leur candidature. La proposition gagnante sera connue en novembre 2009, après la délibération d’un jury de renom, composé, entre autres, du directeur général du Partenariat du Quartier des spectacles, Monsieur Pierre Fortin. L’œuvre devrait voir le jour à la fin 2010, soit juste après la complétion de la Place de l’Adresse symphonique, dont les travaux sont en cours.

2009 Call for Submissions on the theme HOME

New Adventures in Sound Art invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme HOME for consideration in 2010 future programming for the annual Deep Wireless, Sound Travels, and SOUNDplay festivals, produced by New Adventures in Sound Art in Toronto, Canada. Artists may submit works in one or all of the following four categories: 1) Radio Art, 2) Electroacoustic Music & Sound Art, 3) Videomusic and 4) Installation Art (Note: please send separate submission forms for each entry).
Individual interpretations or variations on the theme HOME are encouraged, but should be realized with sound as the primary component.
All submitted works must respond in some way to the theme HOME in order to be considered for 2010 NAISA programming.
1) Radio Art (for Deep Wireless)
The Radio Art category is for works conceived for radio or that use radio and other wireless technology in their creation and that play with the medium. Works submitted to this category must be less than 60 minutes in duration. Special consideration will be given to 1 minute radio art pieces for broadcast as well as 1 page proposals for collaboration on translocal broadcast performances.
Pieces will be selected for broadcast within Canada and on several international radio stations in May 2010 as part of the Deep Wireless Festival of Radio and Transmission Art.
Both Canadian and International radio art submissions will be considered for inclusion in the following:
-The Deep Wireless 7 radio art compilation CD
-The Radio Art Interventions (1 minute pieces played guerilla-style on radio stations during the Deep Wireless festival)
-The Radio Art Salon – a listening gallery of radio art works exhibited for the month of May.
2) Electroacoustic Music & Sound Art (for Sound Travels)
The Electroacoustic Music & Sound Art category is for multi-channel and stereo works less than 20 minutes in duration and conceived for concert performance or presentation in the Sound Travels festival of sound art. Preferred formats for performance presentation include 5.1, octaphonic, 12 and 16-channel formats in both acousmatic (tape), live and mixed formats. Please indicate in the notes the intended format of presentation and any required instrumentation or specialized equipment.
3) Videomusic (for SOUNDplay)
The Videomusic category is for works that explores non-narrative abstraction with equal emphasis on sound and image. Submitted works will be considered for video screenings with either stereo or multi-channel playback. Submitted works will be considered for screenings in either a performance venue or a small-size gallery alongside other works selected from this call for submissions.
4) Installation Art (for Deep Wireless, Sound Travels or SOUNDplay)
Installation proposals of previously realized works for site-specific and gallery installations with no fixed duration will be considered for presentation as part of Deep Wireless, Sound Travels or SOUNDplay. Site-specific works can be for indoor or outdoor locations. Works can use multichannel or single channel playback and may incorporate any number of media, but must feature original sound as a primary element. Preference will be given to small to medium scale interactive works that appeal to all ages. Please attach a list of the necessary equipment required to mount the installation and which of these items can be supplied by the artist. Submissions should include audio, video or audio-video documentation of previously realized versions of the work.
Submission Guidelines
Please submit a completed submission form (in digital format if possible) along with the proposed works on CD or DVD.
For multichannel works, please include a stereo reduction for reference purposes only. For video works, please include a DVD copy for reference only. Screening and multi-channel masters will be requested later if the work is to be programmed. For installation works or performance proposals, please attach a list of required equipment with indications of equipment that can be supplied by the artist.
Materials will not be returned. Please don’t send original copies.

AWOL Gallery is seeking submissions for Toronto’s most anticipated summer group show
AWOL Gallery (Toronto, Canada) is planning The Square Foot Show 2009, an annual group exhibition of hundreds of local, national and international artists working in all media. The Square Foot Show is an excellent networking event and an opportunity for participating Artists to gain exposure to collectors, curators, media, other artists, and the general public. This is Square Foot’s seventh year and the AWOL Collective is aiming to make the show bigger and better than ever. As with 2007’s & 2008’s exhibitions, The Square Foot Show will be held at an off site venue; The Lower Ossington Theatre (LOT) at 100A Ossington. This larger venue will accommodate the numerous artworks and hundreds of people who come to view this exhibit every year. In 2008 over 600 artists participated and over 1300 artworks were exhibited!

This summer, Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre plans to screen a series of short video works in a public space in Kingston, Ontario. It will be much like last year’s Square Pegs: Video Art in the Square, which featured eight artists in a screening in Kingston’s Market Square. This is an open call. Please submit your short videos (up to a maximum length of 15 minutes) on NTSC DVD or MiniDV, along with an artist’s statement and CV. Modern Fuel is an equal opportunity video projector. China Jingdezhen International Ceramic Fair is a specialized fair, which is sponsored by the Ministry of State Commerce, China National Light Industry Council, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Jiangxi Provincial People’s Government. It merges exquisite ceramic exhibition, trade and investment and cultural exchange as a whole. The Jingdezhen Contemporary International Ceramics Exhibition as one of the theme exhibitions of the Jingdezhen International Ceramic Fair will be held during the fair.
The Jingdezhen Contemporary International Ceramics Exhibition has been held twice, and accumulated a lot of valuable experience. At the same time, it has also formed a certain impact on the international ceramic field. In the future exhibitions, we will further understand and make efforts to promote contemporary ceramic art worldwide from an internationalized, academic and specialized viewpoint. We will also explore and expand the innovation and thinking of international ceramic art from all aspects of art, from concept to materials technology, to jointly promote the development of modern ceramics. On this occasion to let the world know more about Chinese ceramics and Jingdezhen, and promote the prosperity and development of Jingdezhen ceramic art.
The International Ceramics Exhibition is divided into design and ceramics. Design is mainly aimed at mass-produced innovative ceramic arts products which can blend into our modern living space. While the ceramics category is mainly to express ceramic arts products with new art concepts and are formed by creative and free skill.
The exhibition has an academic committee of experts which will be screening participants work under the unified leadership of the Executive Committee of the China Jingdezhen International Ceramic Fair. The selected works will have the honor to be published in a picture album. The exhibition this year plans to invite Ceramic Research Centre of China Art Academy and Art Design Department of Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute as academic support units, and invite Zhu Legeng, director of Ceramic Research Centre of China Art Academy as the chief planner, to organize specialized staff to edit this picture album and take on the work-related matters.
We need the ceramist’s documents below
1. Resume including full name, age, sex, address, phone number, email address, personal website, author’s photo, participated important exhibitions (including year), received awards , including year awarded. ( limit about 200 words)
2. Two photos of participating works (JPG, 300dpi, 1MB)
3. Name of Work, Category, Design or Ceramics, Material, Firing method and temperature ( 20 words ).
4. The final work published in the album should be the same as the item on display.
5. The documents must be sent to the organizing committee office before the end of July by EMS. (Express Mail Service) The organizing committee will send inviation after an accreditation by the academic committee.
6. The selected work should be brought to Jingdezhen by the artist on the day before the opening of the exhibition. At the end of the exhibition, the Executive Committee office of Jingdezhen International Ceramic Fair will issue a certificate if the author is willing to donate the work to the Jingdezhen Ceramic Art gallery as a long-range show. In order to express thanks for the support from ceramists in every country, the organizing committee will offer room and board at no charge in Jingdezhen during the fair ( Oct. 17th – 22nd, 2009 ). If ceramists require to take works back, you can take it back by yourself or entrust the organizing committee to send it back.

Calgary is proud to be the host city of the WorldSkills Calgary 2009 competition – a premiere international event celebrating excellence in trades and technologies from around the world.
As part of this multi-day event, The City of Calgary Public Art Program, in partnership with the City of Calgary WorldSkills 2009 Project Management Office, is please to present two public art opportunities for artists whose genre utilizes one or more of the skilled trades highlighted in the WorldSkills Calgary 2009 competition.
Both initiatives will see an artist engaged in the process of creating a commissioned artwork for the City of Calgary during competition week (September 1- 7, 2009). The purpose of these projects is to allow the general public to witness the creative process in progress and better understand how a specific trade or skill can be used in the creation of artwork.
In both cases, the selected artist may choose to initiate the commissioned work in studio prior to the on-site deadline but must ensure enough work remains to showcase the process for the duration of the opportunity. The artwork must be fully completed by the end of the WorldSkills Calgary 2009 competition (September 5, 2009).
The first opportunity will have the selected artist located on-site at Stampede Park directly in the midst of the WorldSkills Calgary 2009 competition. The budget for this public art opportunity is $4000.00 (inclusive of GST). The budget is all-inclusive and must provide for all expenses related to the project.
The second opportunity will have the selected artist located on-site at either Olympic Plaza or the Municipal Plaza. This site will be linked to the ‘Artisan Village’ being programmed as a satellite event that complements WorldSkills Calgary 2009. The completed artwork will remain in-situ for the month of September, at which time it will be moved to a permanent location as determined by the City of Calgary. The budget for this public art project is $17,200 (inclusive of GST). This includes a $500 honorarium towards a participation in a panel discussion on public art the third week of September. The budget is all-inclusive and must provide for all expenses related to the project.
Submitted proposals are to be specific to one of the two opportunities, although artists are welcome to apply on both.

Summary:
The Liberty Village Business Improvement Area (LVBIA) invites professional artists living in Toronto to submit a proposal for the creative transformation of FOUR park benches into permanent works of public art to be installed in Liberty Village. Through the LVBIA BENCHmark 2009 program, public art will be taken to the streets once again, creating signature benches and creative spaces that will enhance one of Canada’s most dynamic communities – Liberty Village.
Project Background:
A program of the Liberty Village Business Improvement Area (LVBIA), BENCHmark engages artists and local businesses to transform orphaned and neglected park benches into permanent works of public art to be enjoyed by the community. In 2005, the Liberty Village BIA partnered with the City of Toronto to establish this unique neighbourhood-specific public bench art program. Two artists were chosen to create three inaugural public art benches, and since 2005, twelve additional benches have been created and located throughout Liberty Village.
BENCHmark attracts supporting sponsors and partners, including Liberty Village BIA, Toronto Economic Development, Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation, Toronto Carpet Factory, Allied Properties, CanAlpha Liberty Towers, Liberty Market Building, Toy Factory Lofts/Lanterra Developments Ltd., First Capital Realty, Toronto Parking Authority and Soft Choice Corporation.
BENCHmark 2009 Criteria:
The industrial history of Liberty Village has shaped what we see today and, therefore, proposals submitted must reflect the historical strengths and contemporary forms of the area. Artistic works in a variety of media and forms will be considered for inclusion in the permanent BENCHmark collection.
Examples of media include, but are not limited to, paint, wood, metal and photography. All bench surfaces can be used and designs that incorporate extensions beyond the bench surfaces (e.g. sculptural elements, signpost, mural, etc.) will be considered. The jury is looking for innovative designs that not only transform the benches, but take into account the immediate surrounding area in which the bench will be placed and the intended use by the community in that public space. The four City of Toronto standard park benches that new life will be given to are “old-style” design with 7 green wooden slats and two concrete ends (see photos above). Dimensions are: 8 feet long, 3 feet high and 2.5 feet deep. The benches are being taken apart, and the set of bench slats will be given to selected artists. Artists may work in their own studio or use space at Lamport Stadium. The benches will be installed along the streets of Liberty Village in late September. Artists will be required to apply a protective varnish (supplied by the program) to their bench to protect it against weather, wear and graffiti.
All artwork(s) must be durable, safe, low maintenance and appropriate to the location. It is the BENCHmark 2009 committee’s intent to commission works of design excellence that suit the historical and natural attributes of Liberty Village.
Artist Benefits:
* $1500 artist award will be paid for each bench creation, to cover artist’s fee and some material costs (the program will provide varnish).
* Your work will be part of this unique outdoor public art bench collection, a program that is promoted by the LVBIA and by the City of Toronto, and viewed by the employees, residents and the many who visit this area for Nuit Blanche, Caribana, Toronto FC soccer, iCAN Pitch, the CNE, and more!

Eligibility:
The competition is open to all established and emerging artists living in Toronto. This request for proposal is open to anyone that can complete the requirements as specified, including the design, fabrication and delivery of the artwork. This program is intended to be artistic in nature, and therefore, any designs that include advertising, soliciting, or other promotional, political or commercially driven proposals are ineligible. Artists or artist collectives may submit more than one bench design.
Selection Criteria & Process:
The BENCHmark 2009 selection committee will select four artists based on visual appeal, unique design, connection to Liberty Village and fabrication plan. The selection committee consists of representatives from the LVBIA, local businesses and the art & design community. Winners will be announced and notified by email the week of July 27th. Artists are required to complete bench work by September 18, 2009. A BENCHmark unveiling will take place in Liberty Village in late September or early October.
How to Apply:
Interested artists should submit the following:
* Resume or CV with current contact information including address, phone number (day and night) and email
* Statement of interest of up to 500 words, including your personal interest and connection to Liberty Village as well as any relevant projects, current or past. This information may be used for promotional purposes.
* Detailed project plan including:
* DRAWING. Artists must submit a detailed design, including front, sides and back design of bench(s). Bench dimensions = 8 ft long, 3 ft high and 2.5 ft deep, 7 slats per bench.
* BUDGET. Artists will be paid $1500.00 per bench and are responsible for all materials and associated project costs. Artists are responsible for the labour, but not cost, of varnishing finished benches. The LVBIA will require all artists to sign an agreement acknowledging all terms and conditions of the BENCHmark Program
* TIMELINE. Please provide a detailed weekly work plan starting July 27th and ending Sept. 25th. Artists are required to varnish their benches with 3 coats, and to have this protective coating completed by September 21, 2009. Bench slats and bases will be re-assembled by Toronto Parks Recreation Forestry staff during the week of September 25th and installation will take place shortly after that, on either concrete or grass. If you have any specific installation requests, please advise us in your submission.
* WORK SPACE. Please indicate if you will be working from your studio or will require use of the indoor space at Lamport Stadium.
* CD of up to 10 images (maximum) of your previous artwork, including title, date, medium, size & location.

Artists from Israel and around the world are invited to respond to the subject of propaganda with visual imagesin (in a4 format) and texts from various genres such as narrative fiction, poetry, philosophy and others. The selected works will first be exhibited in the Digital Art Centre in a dynamic exhibition space that will also provide the venue for a
model airplane building workshop for children and teens. Later on the works will be dropped from a UAV over public areas (such as a busy park). In this way the art project reacts to the typical characteristics of the modern-day world, a world steeped in paranoia, psychological warfare, and deliberate disinformation of government, army and other factors.
The project title – Art Force 1 – is an ironic paraphrase of “Air Force 1” – the plane used by the President of the United States. This title was chosen because it questions the power of the international contemporary art world in comparison with that of countries and global superpowers. Can an object of art constitute an act of propaganda? Can it serve as a tool for propaganda? What does it advocate and on whose behalf does it do so? Can/may contemporary art still create a meaningful statement in the skeptical culture of the modern world? Is art an inner, self-contained dialogue or can it offer a chance for collaboration, for cultural activism and for an open, alternative, international debate using the internet culture?

The idea of beauty found in the morbid has been explored within multitudes of art movements and genres, developing our interpretive perception of what beauty truly is. Nature with a helping hand of time, plays an encompassing role of the dying and the living; composing to decomposing, and nurturing only to neglectfully perish again. That which
desecrates grows. Although man is succeeding in repositioning himself within the natural cycle through elevated technology and mass consumption, in the end, we find ourselves in servitude of a relentless yet graceful continuum of Mother Nature. In this discourse a certain violence between the two eroding elements where harmony is disrupted, is virtually erotic and foreboding.
Keeping these themes in mind, The Deleon White Gallery, is requesting proposals no longer than 2 pages, describing a performance oriented piece under the duration of 30 minutes. Access to the interior and the exterior of the gallery (near the street) is accessible for the duration of the show as well, so think outside the box.
The Deleon White Gallery is a unique space that allows the transformation of aesthetic psyche and creative flexibility, under the encouraging guidance of Stephen DeLeon White. The gallery has recently welcomed one of Toronto’s most exceptional and dynamic, non-traditional art communities: Performance Art and Live Theater. Seeing a successful exhibition featuring local and international performance artists, surrounding themes of nature and ecology, the gallery is honored to host another event, in keeping with the nature oriented background of the gallery. DWG has established itself as a venue committed to investigating social practices in relation to the environment they inhabit. With each new exhibition, the gallery continues to demonstrate it’s commitment to the genius and creativity of its artists and to the philosophical issues that motivate their work.

For over 30 years The Rhubarb Festival has offered Toronto artists a critic-free environment to experiment with new theatrical explorations. First produced by Buddies in 1979, Rhubarb is more than a festival; it is a commentary on theatre – on how we create it, on how we present it, and on how we experience it. Here we allow the artist and the idea to be the centre of attention. The trappings of traditional theatre are purged in favour of a stripped-down approach, where inspiration and invention are genesis. Rhubarb encourages established artists to take new risks and emerging artists to explore the medium of performance creation in a safe, inspired space. Buddies in Bad Times Theatre is currently seeking submissions of new, original, contemporary theatre, performance and dance for our 31st Rhubarb Festival.
The Rhubarb Festival has acted as a seeding ground for exciting new work from a host of groundbreaking Canadian artists, including Sky Gilbert, Daniel MacIvor, Daniel Brooks, Guillermo Verdecchia, Don McKellar, Diane Flacks, Gavin Crawford, Sonja Mills, Darren O’Donnell, Damien Atkins, Atom Egoyan, Jacob Wren, Ann-Marie MacDonald (and many
