FORUM TRAJECTOIRES 20 ans après…
C’est à Ottawa que l’Association des groupes en arts visuels francophones (AGAVF) tiendra son prochain Forum Trajectoires, du 27 au 30 janvier 2019.
Cela fait vingt ans que l’AGAVF – et le réseau qu’elle incarne – affirment leur existence et s’imposent dans le milieu des arts visuels pour faire valoir à la fois la présence des artistes et des organismes de la Francophonie canadienne et leur contribution spécifique au développement des arts visuels au pays.
C’est la première fois depuis 2003 que l’AGAVF réunira autant de participant.e.s, dont un important contingent de la jeune génération. Plus de 50 personnes, dont 22 de moins de 35 ans, seront accueillies à Ottawa, du 27 au 30 janvier par la Galerie SAW Gallery, hôte de l’événement, dans la nouvelle Cour des arts.
Les deux premières journées du forum seront consacrées de façon plus large aux « trajectoires » passées et aux perspectives d’avenir. Les deux journées suivantes permettront d’aborder plus en profondeur certaines problématiques actuelles, comme le commissariat, la diffusion ou la littératie numérique. Enfin, un moment important a été réservé pour discuter des liens avec les Peuples autochtones.
Au final, nous espérons que toutes ces discussions permettront de dégager des pistes d’action et de réflexion aussi bien innovantes que stimulantes qui sauront en mesure de propulser l’AGAVF et son réseau… dans les vingt prochaines années !

La Galerie Sans Nom recherche des propositions d’artistes, de collectifs ou de commissaires pour sa saison de programmation 2019 – 2020.
La Galerie Sans Nom est un centre d’artistes voué à la présentation des arts visuels et multidisciplinaires. Depuis 1977, elle appuie les initiatives d’artistes, favorisant l’expérimentation et l’innovation. Sa programmation tient compte des tendances de l’art actuel et reflète les préoccupations et les réalités contemporaines, tout en étant pertinente pour son milieu et sa communauté d’artistes. La GSN étend ses activités à une variété de pratiques et de disciplines afin de répondre aux besoins changeants d’une communauté diverse dans un milieu urbain en croissance. Nous invitons tout particulièrement les artistes qui appartiennent à des communautés sous-représentées et marginalisées à déposer un projet.

L’appel à projets est officiellement lancé pour la 20e édition du festival MUTEK qui aura lieu à Montréal du 20 au 25 août 2019 ! Les artistes québécois.es et canadien.ne.s qui explorent de nouvelles avenues esthétiques en création numérique et en musiques électroniques sont invité.e.s à nous soumettre leurs candidatures dès à présent.
Avec l’intention de poursuivre nos initiatives en faveur de la parité et de l’inclusion lancées l’année dernière avec le projet Keychange :: Amplify, nous encourageons en particulier les soumissions d’artistes féminines, s’identifiant comme femmes ou non binaires, ainsi que celles d’artistes d’origines autochtones.

Phénomena est un festival interdisciplinaire et bilingue dont l’objectif est de mettre en valeur des artistes novateurs, inclassables et extravagants. Le Festival présente des cabarets, des performances fantaisistes et théâtrales, des spectacles avec projections, des happenings, de la danse performative, des installations et des événements éclatés et poétiques. La 8e édition de Phénomena aura lieu du 15 au 26 octobre 2019. Voir des extraits de la dernière édition.
L’expérimentation et la prise de risques sont au coeur de notre travail. Phénomena s’intéresse aux artistes professionnels qui ont une démarche très personnelle, qu’ils soient émergents ou confirmés, et aux compagnies indépendantes et anticonformistes. Nous offrons une tribune aux artistes qui prennent des risques, qui sont rigoureux et qui se remettent en question. Nous présentons des créations hybrides, poétiques et hors-normes, qui demeurent touchantes et authentiques. Une partie de la programmation est déjà planifiée par la directrice artistique et le reste se fera à la suite de l’appel à projets.
Notre quartier général est La Sala Rossa, une salle charmante et ancienne qui n’est ni un théâtre ni une boîte noire. C’est une salle modestement équipée sur le plan technique, qui se prête bien aux spectacles de style cabaret et peut accueillir autour de 220 spectateurs, ce qui permet une proximité avec le public. Les spectacles présentés à La Sala Rossa le sont souvent pour une seule représentation et regroupent plusieurs artistes. Nous avons aussi des soirées partagées au cours desquelles peuvent être présentées des courtes formes.
Nous sommes à la recherche de créations qui ont dépassé l’étape du laboratoire, sans nécessairement avoir connu une large diffusion. Il nous apparaît essentiel de voir le travail des artistes que nous programmons, c’est pourquoi nous travaillons désormais sur un cycle de 2 ans. Nous vous encourageons à nous présenter vos projets à l’avance et à nous inviter à différentes étapes de votre processus. Ceci nous permettra de mieux vous épauler et de nous assurer de la cohérence dans notre programmation.
Fidèle à sa mission, Phénomena est intéressé à présenter les artistes de la diversité, qu’elle soit autochtone, multiculturelle, LGBTQQIP2SAA ou de personnes vivant avec un handicap. Malheureusement La Sala Rossa est difficilement accessible aux personnes à mobilité réduite, mais nous avons d’autres lieux possibles. N’hésitez pas à nous faire part de vos idées.
Nous accueillons les propositions de l’extérieur du Québec, mais nos budgets sont modestes et vous devez pouvoir mettre en place des ressources pour contribuer aux frais de déplacement.
Avec la thématique Transmission en 2019, nous voulons travailler sur la rencontre et l’échange: à cet effet nous recherchons des propositions qui rassemblent et font collaborer des artistes issus de communautés différentes ou de générations différentes. Avec la thématique Générosité en 2020, nous voulons rendre hommage aux artistes qui travaillent souvent dans l’ombre, aux concepteurs, aux artistes organisateurs ou aux artistes ayant déjà une carrière bien entamée, qui ont beaucoup donné à la communauté et que nous souhaitons continuer de faire entendre.

Un CV ou la description de votre compagnie;
La description du projet (2 pages), incluant le lieu et la forme envisagée, les collaborateurs confirmés, la durée, les besoins techniques et les ressources déjà mises en place;
Des liens vers des vidéos et photos illustrant votre travail;
Un échéancier avec vos étapes de travail.
Dites-nous aussi pourquoi votre projet devrait être présenté au Festival Phénomena. Nous avons une mission artistique et nous cherchons des projets qui s’inscrivent dans cette mission et qui peuvent faire évoluer le Festival. Nous acceptons les dossiers rédigés en français et en anglais et joués dans toutes les langues.

Le Centre de diffusion Presse Papier recherche des artistes ou des groupes d’artistes dont la production et la recherche en art actuel se manifestent par l’utilisation de l’estampe, en tout ou en partie, dans l’élaboration de leur œuvre. Le Centre de diffusion est aussi ouvert aux propositions de commissaires qui voudraient présenter des projets qui tournent autour de l’estampe, de son développement et de son utilisation comme moyen d’expression actuel.
Une attention particulière sera portée aux dossiers qui feront état d’une recherche de nouvelles formes d’utilisation de l’estampe. Cette recherche peut revêtir plusieurs aspects :
L’actualité des sujets de recherche
L’œuvre installative utilisant l’estampe
L’hybridité des moyens d’expression
La recherche sur les techniques de l’estampe
Le mélange des techniques
Les nouvelles avenues du livre d’artiste
L’estampe comme moyen d’expression social
Le questionnement sur l’identité de l’estampe
Tous les candidats doivent soumettre un dossier de présentation pour voir leur proposition présentée au jury. Un dossier incomplet pourra nuire à l’évaluation de la demande.
Le dossier de présentation doit inclure :
Un projet d’exposition (résumé en 400 mots ou moins)
Un curriculum vitae (5 pages maximum) ou une présentation du groupe
Un dossier de presse (5 pages maximum) facultatif
De 10 à 15 reproductions numériques des œuvres (format JPG, maximum 1000 pixels de haut et/ou de large ; maximum 100 dpi)
Veuillez noter que les artistes choisis doivent attendre un minimum de 5 ans avant de refaire une demande d’exposition.
Les documents proposés n’ont pas obligatoirement à montrer les œuvres à exposer. Ils doivent cependant être le reflet assez juste de la direction que l’artiste entend donner à la présentation qu’il fera au Centre de diffusion.
Les documents peuvent être envoyés par la poste ou par courrier électronique.
Les dossiers soumis ne seront pas retournés aux artistes à moins qu’une enveloppe pré-affranchie soit incluse dans la demande.

Culture Trois-Rivières invite les artistes professionnels et de la relève, les collectifs d’artistes et les commissaires en art actuel à soumettre un projet d’exposition en vue de la programmation 2020-2021. Avec deux centres d’exposition, un volet en art public et différentes actions sur le territoire, CULTURE TROIS-RIVIÈRES travaille activement à susciter l’intérêt pour l’art visuel et à le développer pour qu’il soit dans le quotidien des gens. Situé en plein coeur du centre-ville, le Centre d’exposition Raymond-Lasnier est une composante importante de la Maison de la culture de Trois-Rivières. Son mandat est de présenter des productions d’artistes professionnels et de la relève d’ici et d’ailleurs, des expositions thématiques, collectives et événementielles, tout en favorisant les apprentissages par des activités qui démystifient l’art contemporain et actuel.
Le Centre culturel Pauline-Julien est un espace de diffusion dédié aux arts visuels et médiatiques. Son mandat est d’offrir une programmation en arts visuels et numériques ainsi que des projections (courts métrages et films sur l’art). Considérant le caractère multidisciplinaire du lieu, les expositions ne peuvent occuper l’espace au centre de la salle.

OPTICA présente annuellement un programme varié d’expositions, de conférences et de rencontres avec les artistes et s’investit dans la production de commissariats d’expositions en relation avec les thématiques développées par le centre. L’ensemble de ces programmes propose une réflexion critique sur l’actualité de l’art, soutenue par une activité éditoriale.
Le centre comporte deux espaces d’exposition et offre une aide technique professionnelle en galerie. Juried Call for Proposals: Professional Guest Artists
Art City invites North American based artists to submit proposals to lead art
workshops at our Winnipeg studio in 2019/20.
Eligibility
The Professional Guest Artist Series is designed for contemporary artists to share
their practices in a community context. It is a collaborative process with a high level
of engagement by participants of all ages, so workshop content must be appropriate
for youth participation.
The majority of Art City participants are from Indigenous and Newcomer
backgrounds. Artists and knowledge keepers that self-identify with these groups are
strongly encouraged to apply.
Artists must have a demonstrated proficiency in the medium the proposed workshop
is based on or must communicate technical support requirements. (i.e. If proposing a
video workshop, the artist must know how to use video equipment and editing
software or communicate their need for technical support.)
Selection Process
A Jury of Art City staff, Board, and past guest artists select proposals.
Art City also seeks input from our Youth Council, a group of young Art City
participants.
All artists will be contacted after the jury has deliberated. Please allow for a period of
6 to 8 weeks after the submission deadline to hear back about the status of your
proposal.
Fees/Expenses
Selected guest artists will receive artist fees of $2,140 for a five-day workshop.
Travel, accommodations, and a $40/day per diem will be provided artists outside of
Winnipeg.
Selected guest artists will be required to obtain a Criminal Record Check and Child
Abuse Registry Check, or the equivalent in the jurisdiction in which the artist is
based, the cost of which is eligible for reimbursement by Art City.
While proposals from pairs or groups of artists will be considered, please note that
no additional artist fees are available (i.e. artists must share fees).

a discussion on the future of community and environment

Many cities, countries, and peoples, are tied together by water – by our shared experience, memory, and use of it. Cambridge Art Galleries and BRIDGE invite our local communities to contribute to this major collaborative project of community art, events, and conversations about our common waters. Common Waters will consist of a diversity of outlooks and opinions that discuss the future of community and our relationship to water.
Common Waters, the theme for this project, addresses our relationship with each other and our environment. In our increasingly divided world, we have a responsibility to actively engage with our community at home and abroad to strengthen human solidarity. From the connective banks of the Grand River to the oceans we share, we must look to each other for compassion and empathy as our identities evolve in our global world. The treaty land we live on is a chance for us to come together as a community, creating provocative conversations about how we can work together, make, learn, understand and look for solutions to the problems facing all of us in our shared world today.
Common Waters is a platform for us all to discuss the future we want, and to connect with each other through these discussions. Focused on water, these discussions are a way to talk about ways we connect in both a local and wider context.
We want to hear your voices and see your proposal for a piece of this collaborative initiative: local community members, traditional knowledge keepers, artists, designers, scientists. We are looking for submissions that challenge the boundaries of traditional exhibitions and look beyond, to new ways of thinking and talking with each other about our world and water. This may include installations, performances, conversations, workshops, art pieces, gatherings, activities, and anything else. If you have an idea, or something to say, propose it! Be ambitious, be creative, be limitless.
Guided by BRIDGE Centre for Architecture and Cambridge Art Galleries, Common Waters is looking to both the local and the wider community for ideas, enriching the discussions and focusing the series on relevant issues. Using the Design at Riverside Gallery, the BRIDGE Storefront on Main Street, and the streets of Galt, Common Waters has the potential to engage and inspire a range of community members and participants. Happening between June 17 and September 22, this activation extends past our local community, sparking discussions and a new understanding of our shared waters and our agency in the world. Common Waters is a catalyst; the first of many events that will question the nature of community and our relationship with our communal world.

Stride Gallery is accepting submissions for the Main Space. Proposals
received by 5pm (MST) on Thursday, January 31, 2019 will be
considered for 2020 and 2021 programming.

Stride’s Main Space occupies two connected storefronts. As a heritage
building, the space features 15-ft tin tile ceiling and hardwood floors.
There is a media screening room in the lower level that may be utilized
as part of the exhibition.
Stride also supports offsite projects that involve the production and
dissemination of contemporary art outside the context of a formal
gallery space. These projects are assessed and programmed on a
case-by-case basis, dependent upon available resources.

VECTOR FESTIVAL 2019
Deadline: February 01, 2019
Vector Festival is a participatory and community-oriented initiative dedicated to showcasing experimental new media art that draws on digital game technologies and wide-ranging creative media practices. Presenting exhibitions, screenings, performances, lectures, and workshops, Vector Festival is organized by InterAccess in Toronto, Canada, and acts as a critical bridge between emergent digital platforms and new media art practices. The festival organizers are particularly interested in featuring artworks that critically explore the artistic use of emerging digital technologies.
Each year, a substantial number of exhibited works are drawn from an international open call. Vector Festival curators Katie Micak and Martin Zeilinger therefore invite submissions of artworks to the festival’s 2019 program, which will include a feature exhibition at InterAccess throughout July and August, along with offsite screenings, performances, workshops and digital projects. The festival will take place July 11-14, 2019. Please note that Vector Festival does not charge submission fees to artists applying to participate.

About Vector Festival
Vector Festival is a participatory and community-oriented initiative dedicated to showcasing digital games and creative media practices. Presenting works across a dynamic range of exhibitions, screenings, performances, lectures, and workshops, Vector acts as a critical bridge between emergent digital platforms and new media art practice. The festival was founded in 2013 as the “Vector Game Art & New Media Festival” by an independent group of artists and curators: Skot Deeming, Clint Enns, Christine Kim, and Katie Micak, who were later joined by Diana Poulsen and Martin Zeilinger. From the start Vector Festival was unique in its inclusion of game-based work alongside new media disciplines. Originally held in February, since its fourth iteration Vector Festival takes place during the summer months to encourage participatory public events and outdoor interventions.

CAFKA.20: CALL FOR PORTFOLIOS
CAFKA – Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area invites contemporary artists working in the public space to apply to the CAFKA.20: Call for Portfolios. The CAFKA biennial exhibition is open to Canadian and international artists. Deadline for submissions is midnight, March 1, 2019.
Looking to streamline the assessment process, CAFKA is announcing that for the 2020 biennial it will limit its Open Call consideration to artist portfolios only. Artists applying to the CAFKA.20: Call for Portfolios will no longer be required to submit detailed proposals. Following the committee’s deliberations, selected artists will be contacted and asked to propose detailed projects.
The CAFKA biennial exhibition of contemporary art in public spaces initiates conversations around public space and the social and critical functions of art. It galvanizes the community of artists and contemporary art lovers in the Waterloo Region who dedicate countless volunteer hours in support of the exhibition. Since its inception in 2001, CAFKA has produced five annual exhibitions, six biennial exhibitions, and four special projects. Over the past 17 years CAFKA has produced and exhibited 229 projects by 209 artists from across Canada and around the world.
In 2007 CAFKA supplemented its Open Call with an invitational component, where artists identified by the Program Committee are also invited to participate in the exhibition. The final exhibition line-up is comprised of both invited artists and artists selected from the Open Call.

Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) Submission Guidelines
Exhibition proposals are accepted throughout the year and reviews are ongoing. Selection is carried out over a period of time through studio visits and correspondence with artists and curators in whom the gallery has an interest. Those interested in proposing their work to SAAG are asked to include with their submission: a curriculum vitae, an artist statement and/or letter of intent, a wide selection of images, and other relevant support material. The gallery will not return your submission – please do not send original artworks or valuable materials. Given the large number of submissions received by the gallery, formal letters of reply will only be issued to proposals of immediate interest.
Exhibitions are generally six weeks in length. An opening is held to introduce the work to the public. Artists are also invited to give an illustrated lecture on their work in conjunction with the University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Art during the academic year. Other special events (workshops, panel discussions, etc.) are considered on a case-by-case basis.
The Southern Alberta Art Gallery pays CARFAC fees, shipping and insurance, and often seeks funding to produce catalogues for the exhibition. All publications, including our quarterly newsletter GALLERY (which discusses and reproduces work by exhibiting artists along with other programming), are exchanged with other institutions in Canada and abroad.

STARTS Prize of the European Commission: Submissions accepted until March 1st 2019
20,000 euros will again await the winners of the STARTS Prize 2019. Innovative collaborations and projects at the interface of science, technology and art can be submitted until March 1st. The worldwide Open Call is part of the STARTS Initiative of the European Commission and is issued by Ars Electronica, BOZAR and Waag.
Winners can look forward to prize money of 20,000 euros
This is an open call for entries in conjunction with an initiative launched by the European Commission: STARTS. The name stands for innovation at the nexus of Science, Technology and the ARTS.
Two prizes – € 20,000 each – will be bestowed this year:

One for artistic exploration and artworks where appropriation by the arts has a strong potential to influence or alter the use, development, or perception of technology

One for innovative collaboration between industry or technology and the arts that opens new pathways for innovation.
This competition specifically seeks:

Trailblazing forms of collaboration and projects essentially characterized by both technology and art; strictly artistically or strictly technologically oriented projects are not what STARTS is looking for.

Zebrastraat
During the last few years, Zebrastraat Ghent has developed into a stimulating knowledge centre with a strong interest in art. Every two years we organize a biennial called update_, and the New Technological Art Award (NTAA) contest, which tries to fill in a gap in the mainstream art world, by paying attention to the technological developments that drive our global culture.
NTAA selects and presents creations in which the culture-forming role of technology occupies a central place. Low or high tech, intuitive or experimental, the creations always draw our attention to actual innovative trends. The exhibition of achievements of the selected winners is a compass that orients you to the relevant temporal and resilient use of technology in the artistic sector.
The mision of NTAA
NTAA’s mission is to expand the scope of temporary artistic creations and traditional media with works using contemporary and new technologies in an original and intelligent way: treatment of sounds and light, use of new media, application of innovative evolutions in communications, telecommunications and broadcasting, centered on the world of information, communication, and computers and interaction. These descriptions are in no way restrictive and should be interpreted in the broadest way possible.
General guidelines for entry in the NTAA competition
The aim of the competition is to present works in accordance with NTAA’s mission. The submitted work may have been exhibited previously, but the jury reserves the right to exclude creations that turn out to be not realizable within the limits of the practical possibilities of the Liedts-Meesen Foundation, keeping in mind that the works will be displayed during the exhibition. The basic equipment is available and at the disposal of the selected artists; specific and special equipment must be provided for and lent by the artists for the duration of the exhibition.
This international competition is open to all age groups and to all nationalities. Artists can present their candidacy for one art work less than two years old at the time of its submission, but which may already have been exhibited. English is the working language.
There is no artist fee. Free accommodation for the artists is available at Zebrastraat.
The 20 projects selected by the jury will be rendered public at the website in June 2019.
Prize
A cash award of 5,000 EUR will be allocated to a work and its creator. Moreover, the jury reserves the right to award an honorable mention to an artist. The Liedts-Meesen Foundation and the jury reserve the right to not award the prize and to transfer it to the next exhibition. There will also be a public prize and a prize of the European Commission. The winners will be announced at the final day of the exhibition.

Northern Ontario Mobile Residency
N2M2L is excited to announce the Northern Ontario Mobile Residency program launching August 2019. Media artists will have the opportunity to explore the vast land of Northern Ontario from a mobile live/work studio with fully funded residencies. 2019 will be a pilot year offering 2 fully funded 1-2 week residencies. Self funded residency options will be available in 2020 – details to come spring 2019.
Our Vision:
Our residencies will encourage media artists to connect with northern locales and communities and reflect on ideas of land, geography, and identity. We envision this program adding to the national media arts discourse by connecting northern communities to contemporary media arts practices and promoting our expansive region to Canadian artists by overcoming regional limitations.
Priority will be given to Indigenous artists and artists with contemporary practices that critically centralize the landscape.
Our Mission:
Based in North Bay Ontario, the Near North Mobile Media Lab creates opportunities for artists and audiences to engage with media arts in northern Ontario regardless of class, age, gender, race, ability, or sexual orientation. N2M2L facilitates educational workshops, presents exhibitions, screenings and festivals, and provides support to our membership through equipment rentals, project assistance, and mentorships. Far from the centres of population in Ontario, our collective continues to encourage our peers and youth in their explorations of electronic media, in developing their film-making skills, and through the professional presentation of their art works.
Accessibility:
Given the unique nature of this particular program, accessibility is limited. Although there is a ramp at the rear of the RV, doorways are quite narrow.

How many funded residencies will you host per year?
Our programming committee will choose 2 artists for 2019. More residency options will be available for 2020 onwards – details to come in the spring.
Do I have to know how to drive an RV?
Options include independent or driver assisted by N2M2L staff. For independent drivers, timelines should allow for a one-day tutorial on safety and proper RV operation. Driver insurance included. For self-driven residencies a valid Ontario ‘G’ Driver’s License or equivalent is required.
How are artists chosen?
Residencies will be offered to artists selected by our programming committee based on viability and artistic merit.

The Bentway Conservancy is thrilled to announce its inaugural Artist Residency program. The inaugural artist residency will focus on the acoustic environment of The Bentway. The hum of the Gardiner above, the rush of passing trains to the north, the occasional cannon blasts from the Fort York grounds and the general buzz from the surrounding city make The Bentway site rich acoustic territory. The selected artist or collective will be asked to explore The Bentway as an instrument, and to experiment with the varied sonic environments along its length.
The residency aims to expand the way we think about the sounds that shape our creative experience in the city, the parameters defining sound art and the types of projects contributing to the discipline.
The selected artist will be provided with a monthly stipend and support from NAISA (New Adventures in Sound Art). Applicants don’t need a background in sound art to be considered.
The Bentway’s 2019 Artist Residency is presented by RBC.

Glenfiddich Issues Call to Canadian Artists to Enter Competition
for the Coveted 2019 Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Prize
Glenfiddich® Single Malt Whisky is inviting artists living and working in Canada to enter the internationally renowned competition for the prestigious 2019 Glenfiddich® Artists in Residence Prize. The summer residency is valued at over $20,000, covering the cost of travel, accommodation, living expenses and materials during the three-month stay.
The Canadian winner will be one of eight artists worldwide to be awarded the coveted prize to live and work at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland. While living in crofts (traditional small Scottish farm houses), artists are encouraged to take inspiration from the unique setting in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, just up the hill from a 12th century castle. The experience provides an opportunity unlike any other for artists to work in an international community, share in a dialogue with other artists and foster cross-disciplinary ideas.
“The idea of asking artists to come to the distillery, to extend the highland hospitality because you have great confidence in the location of Glenfiddich as a unique and special place – not just the spirit you produce, but the people and community that make it as well,” said program curator Andy Fairgrieve in a recent interview.
President of OCAD University Dr. Sara Diamond adds “Through its commitment and support of the arts, the Artist-in-Residence Prize gives artists not only the monetary value of their residency but provides such a fertile platform in the lovely Scottish Highlands.”
Dr. Diamond is long-standing member of the distinguished jury, which also includes Michelle Jacques, Chief Curator at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria; Michelle Schultz, Executive of Latitude 53 in Edmonton; Ivan Jurakic, Director of the University of Waterloo Art Gallery; Stefan Hancherow, Associate Art Curator for RBC; and the Canadian 2008 Glenfiddich® Artists in Residence Prize recipient, artist Dave Dyment.
This jury selects from over 200 submissions each year and creates a list of ten finalists, which will be announced in late February. From this shortlist, the Glenfiddich® Artists in Residence program curator Andy Fairgrieve selects the winner based on their compatibility with the other participating artists and the strength of their proposal.
Visual artists of all disciplines are invited to apply for the residency, which in the preceding 17 years has hosted painters, sculptors, filmmakers, illustrators, animators, photographers, and performance artists.
“We don’t want to be restrictive in any sense in the media people are working in, or the projects they want to do,” says Fairgrieve. 2017 winner Lee Henderson notes “Although I had a well-formed plan beforehand, most of what I produced at Glenfiddich grew from ideas I had while I was there – a testament to the generative richness of the site.”
Fairgrieve underscores that, “this ethos is about encouraging people to take inspiration from their experience living at the distillery, whether that be the pioneering and experimental heritage of Glenfiddich®, the surrounding environment, or the daily life of the distillery and local community, and to be as creatively free as possible – a mission our artists live and breathe during their three-month residency.”
“I am in admiration of the program’s commitment to bringing together artists of many generations and from all over the world,” said 2018 winner Vanessa Maltese. “The numerous support structures offered by the programme (space, time, funding, interpersonal support) are invaluable and directly contributed to an overall generative experience.”
To date, the Glenfiddich® Artist-in-Residence Prize has sponsored a hundred and thirty-four artists – from twenty countries – since its inception in 2002. Past Canadian recipients include Daniel Barrow, Myfanwy MacLeod, Damian Moppett, Annie Pootoogook, Jon Sasaki, Eleanor King, Lee Henderson, and Vanessa Maltese.
The Canadian Artist in Residence winner will be announced in March 2019.

Chaque année depuis 1991, l’École nationale supérieure d’art de Bourges reçoit de jeunes artistes en résidence, avec le soutien financier de la Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles et du Conseil Régional du Centre-Val de Loire.
Ces résidences ont pour but de permettre à de jeunes artistes français ou étrangers de réaliser un projet de recherche personnelle en lien avec l’école, ses enseignements, ses étudiants ou tout autre partenaire extérieur. Eligibility:The Brucebo foundation supports emerging and early-mid career artists. Eligible applicants must be Canadian Citizens who have studied fine arts within the last ten years. Self-taught artists with less than ten years of exhibition experience may also apply.
Since 1972, the Brucebo Fine Art Scholarship Foundation of Gotland, Swedenhas offered a fine art residency/scholarship to a talented emerging professional Canadian artist providing an inspiring study/work stay in northern Europe on the island of Gotland, located in the Baltic Sea. The Brucebo fine art scholarships date back to the post-impressionist era in Europe, where two young artists, Caroline Benedicks of Sweden and William Blair Bruce of Hamilton, Canada, met in Paris, married and after many years on the European continent, settled on Gotland Island. With the untimely death of William in 1906 and that of Caroline in 1935, the estate, in the early 70’s, created the Brucebo Fine Art (Scholarship) Foundation, an organization promoting island-based cultural history and fine art. To commemorate the unique Swedish-Canadian link of Caroline’s and William’s marriage and impressive artistry, two annual fine art scholarships for younger, professional Canadian artists were established: The Brucebo Fine Art Summer Residency Scholarshipand The William Blair Bruce European Fine Art Travel Scholarship.
The Brucebo Fine Art Summer Residency Scholarshipfunds a three-month working residency – starting June 1 – at the Brucebo studio cottage in the Själsö fishing village, 7 km north of of Visby in Gotland, Sweden. The scholarship includes the use of the studio cottage, and a stipend of 50 000 SEK(approx. $7,300 CAD), which covers travel expenses from Canada – Gotland (return). The scholar also has the option to extend their stay until October 1. Upon leaving the island, the artist is requested to donate an artwork made during their summer residency with the Canadian Collection at the Brucebo museum.
The William Blair Bruce Travel Scholarshipprovides 30.000 SEK(approx. $4,400 CAD) for a European research sejourn, to be undertaken within the next year. The tour is based on an approved Fine Art related research project. As a final part of the ‘travel scholarship’ the recipient must visit Visby via Stockholm. While in Visby, she/he will give a public lecture sponsored by the Foundation on the investigative theme pursued during her/his recent European travel.

Compass Live Art: Artist Residencies 2019 Open Call
Compass Live Art invites residency proposals from artists working in any medium whose practice is based in public engagement – artists who are interested in collaborating with the public to make work.
Selected artists will be invited to Leeds in 2019 to develop ideas over 2-3 weeks through a mixture of studio time and public facing activity.
Projects may be inspired by a particular theme, idea or inquiry or a particular place or community. They must hold the public at their heart and require interaction and engagement to complete or animate them.
These residencies will be run with a view to possible commissioning of new artist projects for presentation in Compass Festival 2020.
We envisage supporting two artists’ residencies, one for a UK based artist and one for an international artist through support from Leeds 2023.

Imago Inc. est un centre d’artistes autogéré de production en estampe.
Le mandat de l’atelier Imago est de promouvoir et diffuser la création artistique dans le domaine de l’estampe contemporaine. Fondé en 1986 et incorporé en 1992, par 11 artistes du sud-est du Nouveau-Brunswick, le centre offre un lieu de recherche à ses membres et un atelier fonctionnel aux artistes.

Call to Artists: Pride Public Art Project
Request for Proposals (RFP 2018-29)
The City of Port Coquitlam seeks proposals for an artist-led, community-engaged
public art project that recognizes and celebrates Port Coquitlams LGBTQ2+
community, and its presence and contribution to the social fabric of the city.
The City has a vision to be a happy, vibrant, safe community with healthy and
engaged residents, and is guided by values and principles of accessibility, diversity
and inclusion for all members of the community. The Pride Public Art project
presents artists with an opportunity to develop an artwork that builds on these
values, deepening relationships, creating a visual marker of presence of the
LGBTQ2+ community, while providing a space for reflection, opportunities for
dialogue and fostering inclusivity and community pride. The artist or artist team will
lead the development and creation of the artwork and will engage members of the
community in the artmaking process.

Request for Expressions of Interest

Budget: $90, 000 CAD (maximum)
The Town of Oakville invites artists to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) to create a permanent indoor public artwork for the galleria of the Southeast Community Centre. The successful artist will have their work featured at the north entrance of the new facility.
Professional Canadian artists and artist-led teams are invited to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) by March 1, 2019.
An artwork proposal is not required at this time. This is a two-stage process.
During stage one of the competition, applicants will be reviewed on the basis of the merit of past work, professional qualifications and experience. Refer to submission details in the EOI document. In stage two shortlisted artists will be required to submit an artwork concept proposal and model. Short listed artists will be paid an artist fee of $1500 to develop their proposals. The selected artist will then enter a contract with the Town of Oakville for the artwork creation and installation phase of the project. The successful artist will have a maximum budget of $90,000 to create the artwork.
The public art concept will be selected by a specially-convened independent committee made up of visual arts professionals, community representatives and town staff. The project will be awarded in June 2019, installed during the summer of 2020 and unveiled when the Southeast Community Centre opens to the public in September 2020.
The Town of Oakville is redeveloping the former Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) lands that will see a new community centre, neighbourhood park, future residential area and seniors-oriented housing block to meet the needs of Oakville residents. The project is being rolled out in phases with the building of the Southeast Community Centre (SECC) and neighbourhood park as a first priority. The anticipated opening date of the SECC and park is Fall 2020.
The SECC will have a contemporary building design that respects the heritage character of the surrounding neighbourhood as well the designated high school. It will include a 25-metre lap pool, a warm water pool, a double gymnasium, a fitness centre with a running track, multipurpose meeting rooms and space for intergenerational programming.

C Magazine is pleased to announce the inaugural C Magazine Editorial Fellowship, a unique ten-month residency for independent research and experimentation in the field of visual arts publishing and is the only such opportunity offered by an art magazine in Canada. By providing core space and resources to diverse voices from a variety of backgrounds and at various stages in their careers, the Fellowship aims to enrich the visual arts community and expand historical, social and cultural understandings of Canadian contemporary art.
The C Magazine Editorial Fellowship establishes an important new platform in its consideration of innovative models for editorial development in line with C Magazine’s reputation as an experimental visual arts institution known for nurturing, showcasing and creating dialogue around artistic practice and criticism.
Founded in 1984 and based in Toronto, C Magazine is an independent contemporary art and criticism periodical dedicated to providing a dynamic forum for debate and insight into significant ideas in the visual arts. C Magazine fosters the development of emerging talent, promotes excellence in writing and creative practice and commissions new work that reflects the diversity of Canadas’s arts communities. C sees these as necessary elements in fostering a vital and timely document of our times. C is published quarterly by C The Visual Arts Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization established to present ideas, advance education and document contemporary visual art and artist culture.

Role Description
The C Magazine Editorial Fellowship provides a supportive context for professional development over a ten-month period, and the unique opportunity to contribute significantly to an established independent contemporary art publication in Canada. Working closely with the C Magazine Editor to realize the magazine’s artistic mandate and editorial goals, the Editorial Fellow delivers their individual perspective through a thematic program that sits somewhere between the artist-led and the institutional. The Fellow researches and develops, commissions and edits a series of feature texts across three consecutive issues of the publication, building on C’s strong reputation for smart, imaginative and challenging content on and around contemporary art and criticism. In addition to their editorial contributions, the Fellow programs a discursive event related to some aspect of their thematic content.
For 35 years, C Magazine has introduced diverse, emerging artists and writers and often overlooked art practices to a national and international audience. C Magazine aims to educate and provide an important forum for discussion of the social, political, and historical forces at play within our cultural environment and current visual arts practices. Responding to the challenges and requirements of a small, independent organization, the Editorial Fellow supports these goals and contributes purposefully to C’s publishing program, its growth and its long-term vision, while furthering its legacy and mission. The Fellow reports to the Editor and is responsible to the authority of the Board of Directors of C The Visual Arts Foundation.
Structure
The Editorial Fellowship is comprised of research, commissioning and editing periods, during which the successful applicant is in regular conversation with the editor of C Magazine. The Fellow works closely with the editorial team to deliver the series of texts and any additional activities and attends monthly all-staff meetings and quarterly meetings of the Editorial Advisory Committee, in person or remotely. The Fellow is supported and complemented by the magazine’s leadership team of Editor and Executive Director/Publisher, and together they ensure an influx of diverse new voices and consistency in the delivery of content and educational programs.
Responsibilities
Editorial Program
To work closely with the Editor to ensure that C Magazine realizes its mandate and editorial goals, and to contribute to their further development.
To develop the theme and ‘Call for Proposals’ for each issue, with final approval of the Editor.
To research and commission feature articles for 3 issues of C Magazine (~10,000 words, with more than half being Canadian content), corresponding with contributors to solicit and develop texts, set fees, and do so in adherence to specified timelines, budgets and editorial structures.
To update records pertaining to each commissioned article, including fees, potential copyright expenses and first draft deadlines as soon as an assignment has been confirmed.
To write the Editorial note.
To prepare received texts for publication, providing writers with substantive edits that suggest cuts for length, sequencing and consistency of editorial style and voice.
To ensure final texts are delivered on budget and to a high standard.
To proofread the magazine galley.
To attend quarterly Editorial Advisory Committee meeting to discuss upcoming themes and commissions.
To execute one program in relation to the theme or content of their issues, at a point of their choosing during the Fellowship, budget permitting.
Fundraising
To assist with applying for funding for events related to their editorial program.
To support and help develop community partnerships.
Marketing and Audience Development
To build the magazine’s network of contributors.
To support and develop the national and international profile of the magazine
To work with the Publisher to nurture C’s local, national and International audiences and partnerships and forge new ones.
To contribute marketing texts related to each issue of C Magazine as needed.
Public Representation
To promote C Magazine at a national and international level, acting as an ambassador for the organization.
To understand and raise awareness of the magazine’s position within an established network of independent contemporary visual art spaces and publications.
To actively mentor the emerging writers, curators and artists they work with.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in art history or critical and curatorial studies, or closely related studies; or equivalent qualifications, education and experience relevant to the role.
Minimum 5 years of experience in writing and editing, directly related to contemporary visual art and related practices.
Experience commissioning and editing contemporary art writing for publication.
Experience with working collaboratively and responsibly as part of a creative team.
Experience with developing productive working relationships with artists, writers and art world peers.
Experience, an established presence and well-developed professional networks in the Canadian art community.
Established presence in the international art community, with well-developed networks.
Required Skills and Knowledge
Superior writing and substantive editing skills.
Demonstrable ability in assessing texts submitted for publication in a contemporary art context; experience in assessing pitches is an asset.
Extensive knowledge and interest in contemporary Canadian and international art, in a range of media and disciplines.

2019 Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators
Call for Submissions
Founded in 2012, the Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators is awarded annually to an emerging Canadian curator who is under 30 with the aim to foster social innovation and curatorial excellence in Canada. Hosted and administered by the Art Gallery of Guelph, the winner is selected by a jury of arts leaders and receives a $5,000 honorarium, an exhibition at Art Gallery of Guelph, and mentorship from the curatorial team at the AGG and jury members.
Submissions will be accepted until February 14, 2019, at 5 pm. The winner will be announced in early March 2019 and the exhibition will be presented from September to December 2019 at the Art Gallery of Guelph. Proposals should emphasize contemporary Canadian art with attention to audience and public relevance.
Applications must include:
Letter of introduction: applicants should articulate their curatorial values and philosophy, as well as what the Middlebrook Prize means to them as a career-building opportunity
One-page exhibition proposal: proposal must include contact information, curatorial statement, list of artists, and description of potential outreach programming
Exhibition budget up to $10,000: budget must include artist fees (per CARFAC fee schedule for Category II institutions), shipping via an accredited art transportation company, any special technical or equipment requirements for the exhibition, a description of unique or unusual installation requirements, and projected travel/accommodation expenses for artists/curator

Afin de multiplier les points de vue sur l’image en mouvement, Vidéographe offre une résidence de recherche aux artistes, chercheurs et commissaires Sourds. Cette résidence se veut versatile afin de répondre aux besoins de la personne sélectionnée.
Les artistes pourront utiliser cette opportunité pour expérimenter en vue de créer une nouvelle œuvre ou, de manière plus large, pour nourrir leur pratique. Les chercheurs, chercheuses ou commissaires sont invités à effectuer une recherche à partir des œuvres de notre collection vidéo. Leur recherche peut notamment être thématique, formelle ou historique et peut porter sur le corpus d’un ou plusieurs artistes.
La résidence sera suivie d’une présentation publique au cours de laquelle la personne sélectionnée présentera sa recherche.
Cette résidence s’adresse aux personnes Sourdes résidant à Montréal. La personne retenue recevra un montant forfaitaire de 2 000 $. Les artistes auront accès aux équipements de Vidéographe. Les chercheurs, chercheuses et commissaires pourront travailler dans les bureaux de Vidéographe ou en ligne via notre site Vithèque.com. Ils ou elles seront accompagnés par notre équipe dans leurs recherches dans le catalogue. Comme l’équipe de Vidéographe ne connaît actuellement pas le LSQ ou l’ASL, nous utiliserons les services d’interprètes, SRV Canada VRS, et le français ou l’anglais écrit.
Une seule personne sera sélectionnée dans le cadre de cet appel. Un comité de sélection évaluera les propositions en considérant la faisabilité du projet par rapport aux ressources dont nous disposons, l’intérêt et la rigueur de la proposition et les retombées anticipées pour l’artiste, chercheur, chercheuse ou commissaire.

Le Prix Sobey pour les arts est le prix le plus prestigieux décerné aux artistes canadiens de 40 ans et moins. Conjointement administré par la Fondation Sobey pour les arts et le Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, ce prix annuel, créé en 2002, offre à nos jeunes talents un soutien exceptionnel grâce à une aide financière importante et une reconnaissance à l’échelle nationale et internationale.
Le Musée des beaux-arts du Canada accepte présentement les dossiers de candidature pour le Prix Sobey pour les arts 2019 que souhaitent lui envoyer les agents, artistes et institutions reconnus. apexart’s International Open Call is soliciting exhibition proposals from February 1-March 1, 2019. The four proposals with the highest scores will be presented by the organizers in the countries specified as part of apexart’s 2019-20 exhibition season. Curators, artists, writers, and creative individuals, regardless of experience level or location, are invited to submit a proposal online for any international (or domestic) location outside of New York City and its metropolitan area.
The submission process
Proposals should describe compact, focused, idea-driven, and original group exhibitions. No biographical information, CVs, links, or images will be accepted. Submissions cannot exceed 500 words and should be submitted in English.
The selection process
Rather than convene a small panel to review hundreds of ideas, apexart’s crowdsourced voting system utilizes many jurors to individually review a small subset of proposals. An international jury composed of 300+ individuals from a wide variety of professional backgrounds rate the proposals based on interest, content, and the organizers’ ability to communicate their ideas. To make the system as fair as possible, proposals are anonymous and randomized for each juror, which ensures that each submission receives the same consideration. apexart does not influence the decisions of the jury in any way.
The results
The organizers/curators of the four highest-ranked proposals will each receive an exhibition budget of up to USD 11,000 and will work closely with the apexart team to turn their ideas into apexart exhibitions. Exhibition organizers are expected and challenged to work within the funding provided to transform their winning proposals into strong, focused, noteworthy, and relevant exhibitions.

Installée dans un bâtiment du XVIIe siècle, l’École nationale supérieure d’art de Bourges est située dans le cœur historique de la ville de Bourges, dans le centre de la France à deux heures de Paris. Avec une surface de plus de 7000 m2, l’école offre de vastes espaces de travail pour les étudiant(e)s et de nombreux ateliers techniques dotés d’équipements importants constamment modernisés et renouvelés.
L’école, habilitée à délivrer le grade Master au diplôme national supérieur d’expression plastique, est conçue pour favoriser l’inventivité et la créativité, qui n’adviennent que si les moments d’échanges, de rencontres et de réflexions sont nombreux : elle est un lieu généreux et ouvert sur l’extérieur, favorisant les rencontres et les croisements artistiques. Son enseignement propose un contexte d’études et de recherches dont les méthodes sont toujours à réinventer pour inciter à la réflexion, aiguiser la curiosité, apprendre à être disponible, multiplier les discussions, articuler la mise en pratique avec les analyses critiques.
La galerie La Box est l’un des principaux outils pédagogiques de l’Ensa. Tous les ans, elle initie des actions en lien avec les enseignements de l’école en produisant une dizaine d’expositions d’artistes français ou étrangers. Depuis plus de dix ans, elle confie une partie de sa programmation à de jeunes commissaires invités choisis puis suivis par l’équipe pédagogique de l’école. Les curateurs développent un programme expérimental s’appuyant sur un module pédagogique mis en place pour assurer le lien avec les enseignants et les étudiants, pour permettre à ces derniers de questionner la problématique de travail du programme curatorial et rester au plus près des acteurs de la scène contemporaine.

Dossier visuel : 10 à 15 images des œuvres ou de projets antérieurs en format JPG
1 Mo maximum par image (les images trop lourdes ne seront pas visualisées).
Pour les vidéos, inclure un lien dans le corps du courriel vers un site de diffusion vidéo (ex : Youtube, Vimeo, etc.).
S’assurer que les vidéos restent en ligne jusqu’à la fin de l’année en cours ou les envoyer par «wetransfer».
*Les droits d’auteur alloués pour exposition sont de 1 996 $.
