L’Association des groupes en arts visuels francophones (AGAVF) présente les événements de ses quinze centres d’artistes et galeries membres à travers le pays et compile les appels de dossiers en arts visuels, arts médiatiques, performance, art public qui s’adressent principalement aux artistes et parfois aux commissaires.

Les artistes, les collectifs et les commissaires professionnels ayant des pratiques actuelles liées aux arts imprimés sont invités à proposer un projet d’exposition ou d’événement (projet ponctuel, lancement de livre d’artiste, performance, etc.) pour la programmation 2018-2019 d’Arprim.

Arprim aborde l’imprimé comme un média ouvert, mobile, social et accessible. Le centre se définit comme un espace d’essai et d’expérience propice au développement d’une vision pluraliste de l’art imprimé. En tant que diffuseur de l’art actuel, il contribue à accroître la visibilité de pratiques émergentes en art imprimé en présentant des expositions, des événements, des actions hors les murs et en organisant des événements spéciaux.

Arprim s’engage à couvrir les frais reliés à la salle d’exposition, aux communications et au vernissage.

Le dossier doit comprendre:
– une proposition de projet ( PDF, max. 1 page)
– un texte de démarche (PDF, max. 1 page)
– un curriculum vitæ ( PDF, max. 3 pages)

Titre/Thème: Je m’épanche, donc je suis
Walter Benjamin l’a annoncé il y a 80 ans. Andy Warhol l’a mis en pratique il y a 50 ans. Et le philosophe de l’art contemporain Yves Michaud l’a récemment proclamé en ces termes : « Du côté des producteurs, des artistes, des fabricants et de ceux qui montrent, il ne s’agit pas de présenter des chefs-d’œuvre mais de marquer sa place, de se signaler et d’exister, y compris, comme souvent, dans la fiction d’une identité reconstruite et inventée. »

C’est le triomphe de l’esthétisme.

La 12e exposition internationale d’estampe numérique miniature invite les artistes à manifester leur vie intime et ordinaire, à jouer à Instagram en images numériques, à rendre la beauté étourdissante des choses vides de sens. Les thèmes abondent : égoportrait, quotidienneté dans sa plus grande banalité, superficialité des vécus, épatement des odyssées spectaculaires et kitch des objets familiers. Le point de vue sera sérieux ou ironique, léché ou brouillon, platement factuel ou étrangement imaginaire. L’important, partout et toujours, est de se mettre en scène et de se faire valoir.

L’exposition est ouverte aux artistes professionnels de tous les pays sur le thème
«Je m’épanche, donc je suis». Ce thème a été choisi par la commissaire Raymond Aubin et est développé dans le texte ci-dessus.

Les conditions de participation sont expliquées dans la FAQ qui suit. Veuillez noter que ces conditions ont été modifiées par rapport aux années précédentes.
Les estampes soumises doivent être accompagnées d’une fiche d’identification (voir la page 3 du formulaire de participation) indiquant :
• le nom et le prénom de l’artiste;
• son pays de résidence;
• le titre de l’estampe;
• son année de création.
Les estampes doivent être reçues par les organisateurs au plus tard le 15 juillet 2016.

ENVOI DES ESTAMPES
Tout envoi doit contenir les quatre éléments suivants :

1. Le formulaire d’inscription dument complété sur papier;
2. Une fiche d’identification pour chaque estampe soumise dument complétée sur papier et fixée à l’arrière de l’œuvre;
3. Les estampes elles-mêmes;
4. Un cd comprenant :
   1. Une version numérique des estampes d’une résolution de 300 ppp, en format JPEG de qualité supérieure;
   2. Le formulaire d’inscription rempli, y compris les fiches d’identification.

Après le succès de Banlieue! ordre et désordre présenté lors des célébrations du 50e anniversaire de la Ville de Laval à l’été 2015, le projet Banlieue revient en 2018 sous la forme d’une triennale. Pour cette deuxième édition, il s’agit d’aborder la banlieue nord-américaine comme un lieu d’arrivée, un territoire de projections de tous les désirs.

Comme cette idée de mobilité trouve son prolongement dans l’expérience migratoire, la triennale propose d’aborder la banlieue comme un espace non homogène constitué de communautés multiples. Au Québec, les banlieues, longtemps considérées comme « cités-dortoirs », prennent de l’expansion au point de faire de l’ombre aux villes dont elles n’étaient au départ qu’une extension domiciliaire. Dorénavant, les gens s’y installent, s’y éduquent, s’y distraient ou y travaillent. Le tissu social se transforme depuis déjà quelques décennies. Des membres de communautés culturelles y prennent domicile, des jeunes professionnels fuient la grande ville afin d’esquiver la folie du marché de l’immobilier ou pour bénéficier d’occasions de travail inespérées. On s’expatrie des grandes villes, de la région, d’autres pays. La banlieue incite ainsi au déplacement, à la distance à parcourir. La banlieue n’est pas close sur elle-même, elle est connectée au monde grâce aux technologies tout en étant le reflet de diverses réalités sociales.

L’émancipation suburbaine annonce une souveraineté grandissante bien que dans l’imaginaire collectif, la banlieue symbolise des carences à bien des égards. Or, ces lacunes appellent à la transformation des espaces et à l’émergence d’une offre culturelle sans précédent. La banlieue est un matériau de tous les fantasmes. Elle est le réceptacle de projets imaginaires et critiques, ainsi que d’actions en vue d’en dynamiser son territoire et le rendre plus convivial et humain.

La triennale Banlieue en est une d’arts visuels, mais à l’instar de l’édition de 2015, une seconde discipline est invitée à prendre part à la réflexion. En 2018, la discipline théâtrale est à l’honneur. Défiant les conventions, l’espace et le temps, le théâtre est une forme d’expression de plus en plus poreuse aux autres disciplines artistiques. Le théâtre est un art vivant qui se renouvelle constamment, tout en demeurant particulièrement sensible aux mouvances culturelles et sociales. C’est avec cette envie d’entrer en dialogue que les arts visuels convient le théâtre.

SOUMISSION DE DOSSIER – OUVERT À TOUS ET TOUTES

AXES THÉMATIQUES
Les œuvres tant en arts visuels qu’en théâtre doivent tenir compte de l’un ou de plusieurs axes thématiques suivants en lien avec la banlieue :
•    Portrait démographique : les communautés culturelles, les diasporas, les groupes sociaux et les sous-cultures ;
•    Le rapport au déplacement, à la route, à la distance, au voyagement ;
•    Un lieu des possibles : le territoire et sa transformation, projets en lien avec les développements sociaux et culturels.

ARTS VISUELS
Projets recherchés : art relationnel, peinture, sculpture, installation, net art, art électronique et audio, art vidéo, performance, interventions publiques, etc.

Documents exigés :
–    vision et expérience personnelles de la banlieue (500 mots max) ;
–    description de l’œuvre réalisée ou projetée et lien avec la banlieue (500 mots max)
–    dix images numériques d’œuvres récentes identifiées (format jpg, 1 Mo max) ;
–    extraits vidéos (5 min max / mov, wmv, mpeg-4) ;
–    liste descriptive (titre, année, médium) ;
–    démarche artistique ;
–    curriculum vitæ.

THÉÂTRE
Projets recherchés : art relationnel, conte, poésie, performance, manifeste, intervention, théâtre documentaire, théâtre engagé, comédie, drame, etc. Petites formes, dispositifs scéniques simples et facilement adaptables, projets qui peuvent être mis en relation avec une ou plusieurs œuvres de l’exposition.

Documents exigés
–    vision et expérience personnelles de la banlieue (500 mots max) ;
–    description du projet de création (ligne dramaturgique, traitement dramatique, environnement scénique, pertinence du projet par rapport à la thématique de la banlieue,  étapes de création, etc. (500 mots max) ;
–    budget préliminaire ;
–    exemple d’un projet récent (projet d’écriture, d’interprétation ou de mise en scène) que vous avez réalisé ou auquel vous avez collaboré ;
–    démarche artistique ;
–    curriculum vitæ.

La Salle Alfred-Pellan (SAP) de la Maison des arts de Laval donne la parole à des artistes et à des commissaires reconnus et émergents de Laval et d’ailleurs. Elle encourage la création, la réflexion et les échanges. Son programme évolutif lui permet d’offrir des activités et des outils de médiation spécifiques pour chaque exposition et pour différents publics. La SAP offre un accompagnement muséologique aux artistes et aux commissaires pour les projets d’exposition.

We are calling for images of socially-engaged community work. What do you do as a feminist, artist and researcher in your own communities?

EXHIBITION CALL: WIAprojects at Centre for Women’s Studies in Education, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto is showcasing women’s – and especially feminist – socially-engaged community activity in an exhibit in the CWSE Hallway Gallery this coming Jan. 2018. Our expectation is that the works will specifically explore where we, nationally, as women and/or as feminists are situated after Canada 150.

Who are you – Individual? Group? Collective? Are you from a rural area or urban center? How do you respond to and enliven the hopes, wishes, and activities of/in your communities? Who do you work with and how? How have you spoken to or/and facilitated in assisting with meeting the needs of a diverse population or a specific group? Do you have a powerful image that speaks to this work that you do?

We are asking for submissions of printed colour images on good quality photo paper in 4” x 6” (vertical or horizontal) format. You may send up to three images (indicate an order of preference) and we will try and show them all but, if space becomes limited, we may have to choose one. In order to defray costs we are asking for an administrative fee of $25 for the submission of one image ($10 for each individual image beyond the first one – up to total of $45 for 3 images) to cover framing, hanging, advertising and administrative costs. Nautilus, an Or Bookstore kiosk in partnership with Flotilla 2017, is currently seeking
submissions of artists books, periodicals, criticism, ephemera and other printed matter
for sale and display in the shop in Charlottetown from September 21-24. Artists and
small presses are encouraged to apply.

The Or Bookstore is a project of the Or Gallery in Vancouver, BC. The shop specializes
in artists publishing and carries a range of books and printed matter including editions,
artists books, monographs, design publications, local publishing, criticism and theory
and journals and magazines. Our titles come from Fillip, New Documents, Publication
Studio, Sternberg Press, Tsunami Editions, Urbanomic, Motto Distribution and more.

Nautilus will privilege works that highlight the book as an artform.

Books will be sold on consignment, with 60% of the shelf price paid to the
artist/publisher and 40% to Or Bookstore following the event. Or Bookstore/Or Gallery is
not responsible for any normal shelf wear that may occur over the course of the project.

If you are interested in submitting material to be sold in the shop, please fill out this
application form no later than July 1, 2017.

Photophobia is the 11th annual festival of short-format contemporary media, film, video and moving image hosted in partnership between the Art Gallery of Hamilton and Hamilton Artists Inc. Established in 1999, Photophobia was Hamilton’s first film and video festival dedicated to the development of experimental time-based media at a time when there were no such platforms in the Hamilton community. The Art Gallery of Hamilton and Hamilton Artists Inc. are once again partnering to showcase contemporary practitioners who test the boundaries of the medium in 2017. Not confined by restrictions or themes, Photophobia is a free, festival series presented under the cover of night in the Irving Zucker Sculpture Garden at the Art Gallery of Hamilton and the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Courtyard at Hamilton Artists Inc.

Submission Guidelines:

• Submissions must be short format (15 minutes or less)
• Work must not be more than 3 years old (2014)
• All submissions must be digital Vimeo or Youtube links (private/password protected is acceptable and encouraged). Other formats will not be considered. Do not send the jury files using Wetransfer or any other transfer platform that has a time limit for hosting the files. Do not use dropbox or other cloud platforms.
• No more than one submission per artist please
• Films and videos should be independent projects, meaning that you, the artist, retain complete creative and artistic control of the project.

Emerging Digital Artists Award (EDAA) 2017

The Emerging Digital Artists Award (EDAA) is currently accepting applications for its 2017 award program. Founded on a desire to support and celebrate digital innovation in the arts, the EDAA caters to early-career artists who are working on-screen, and experimenting with the possibilities of digitally rendered imagery. Applicants are encouraged to play with moving image formats such as video, animation, and GIF art. Get inspired by visiting our website, which features various animations by Toronto-based Niki Sehmbi—our 2017 artist partner, whose eye-catching works can be seen across EDAA 2017 advertising.

This year, our feature artist is not the EDAA’s only exciting collaboration. For the first time, Equitable Bank and their digital banking operation, EQ Bank, are presenting the EDAA in partnership with a local arts organization. Trinity Square Video is Canada’s oldest media arts centre, and an ideal partner for the EDAA given their ongoing commitment to fostering the development of media arts in Canada through their exhibitions and other community programming. A space in Trinity Square Video’s annual Themed Commission program will be reserved for the EDAA 2017 winner, and all finalists will receive a year-long membership to the centre.

If you’re an emerging digital artist based in Canada, apply to the EDAA by completing an online application. The call will remain open until July 10, 2017.

What happens after I apply?

Applications will be juried by this year’s digital-savvy judging panel, including artists Erin Gee and Jennifer Chan, a representative of Trinity Square Video, and Equitable Bank’s resident art curator. Works will be considered against four main criteria:

• relevance, defined by the ways the work engages digital media in its process, presentation, and content;
• technique and demonstrated familiarity with the media;
• aesthetics, or the stylistic choices made by the artist in the work; and
• the 250-word written statement submitted with the application.

Based on their excellence in all areas, five finalists will be selected and invited to show their work in an exhibition at Trinity Square Video in Toronto from September 28 – October 12, 2017. All will be paid for their participation in the exhibition, in addition to the monetary prizes offered. Finalists will be contacted in August 2017.

The award winner will be announced at the EDAA’s closing event on October 5, and offered a $5,000 monetary award. The award includes Equitable Bank’s acquisition of the winning artwork, which will be displayed on-screen in our company’s head office in Toronto. The remaining four finalists each receive a $1,000 award.

Art Gallery of Burlington – Ceramic Courtyard Exhibition Call for Proposals

The Art Gallery of Burlington is welcoming proposals from professional ceramists for its annual ceramic exhibition in the Dan Lawrie Family Courtyard for the summer of 2018.

The Annual Courtyard Installation at the AGB is a site specific installation of ceramic work (some mixed media is permitted as long as the work is primarily ceramic), that reflects some aspect of the space, ranging from the architecture, to the plantings, to the social interaction contained within the space. The artist is encouraged to engage with the water feature and is asked that much of the work is installed on the ground cover and the walls. This exhibition space is used as a public area within the building, including a space for people to eat lunch, private receptions and weddings; the artist is asked to consider that the installation does not interfere with these other uses. This exhibition is open to mid or late career artists with a proven exhibition record.

The Dan Lawrie Family Courtyard at the Art Gallery of Burlington is an enclosed open space measuring approximately 49.6 x 59 feet (16 x 17 metres) with a total area of 2907 square feet, divided between 1406 square feet of hard surface and 1501 square feet of plantings. A water feature with a fountain with three jets flows into a pool with a stone slab bridge. There are three entrances to the courtyard which is on two levels. There is a broad set of three stairs and a wheel chair accessible ramp connecting the different levels. Three walls of the courtyard are one story tall with textured concrete walls and windows (making the installation viewable from inside the building), and the fourth wall is two and a half stories tall with textured concrete and is suitable for a wall mounted installation. There are four trees in the plantings and various low growing ground cover.

Artspace is dedicated to presenting work from contemporary artists working in a variety of disciplines. The centre strives to present art that reflects and promotes the diversity of cultural and political perspectives that shape contemporary art practices. Submissions from emerging, mid-career and senior artists whose works is alternative, experimental and/or critically engaged are welcome. The centre welcomes submissions from individual artists, curators, and collectives to apply with new or existing exhibition proposals. Artspace is seeking proposals for Gallery 1 and 2, as well as offsite and curatorial projects relevant to the centre’s mandate.

Video documentation should be uploaded to a site such as Youtube or Vimeo and linked in the application. Regardless of duration, please include full videos. Due to time constraints, the selections committee may only view up to 5 minutes of each video. Please note the clip you would prefer the jury view by including time marks in the documentation list.

Programming Policy
Proposals are judged in relation to Artspace’s mandate and programming focus. Submissions that arrive after each deadline will be held over until the next deadline. In order to present a cohesive yearly program, our committees review materials from both deadlines, and decisions are often not made for many months. Artist Call for Submission

One on One Gallery invites artists and designers to apply for a solo exhibition of their work in any media, to be accompanied with a visiting artist talk and studio/class visits. The proposed exhibitions are scheduled for the fall semester from November 9 to November 30, 2017, with the reception held on November 23, 2017, and the winter semester from March 2 to March 28, 2018, with the reception held on March 22nd, 2018. One on One Gallery is an integral part of the Visual Communications Program at Medicine Hat College. Our Bachelor of Applied Arts (Visual Communications) degree program is one of a kind, in that we offer a blend of both fine arts and design. We use our One on One gallery as a teaching tool to enhance our student’s education by inviting professional artists and designers to showcase their work and bring contemporary and exciting ideas to our community. The gallery has over 2400 running feet of wall space, a state of the art lighting system, tall ceilings, and hardwood floors. It’s a very professional, clean, and exciting space.

An artist fee of $3000.00 will be awarded to the selected candidate. All travel, shipping costs and arrangements (delivery both ways) are to be covered by the selected candidate.

The artist must be in attendance for the reception where they will give an artist talk. They are also required to fulfill studio visits either the day before or after the reception date. These stipulations will be based on a contractual agreement and must be fulfilled before the artist fee is awarded.

Before the end of the day of Friday, July 14, 2017 local time. You will receive an acknowledgement of your submission shortly thereafter. Final notification will be made in early September.

New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme Sonic Reflections for consideration in New Adventures in Sound Art’s 2018 programming.

Sound by its nature reflects in different ways depending on the environment in which it is experienced. These reflections help to give a place its character but they also can obscure elements of an environment. NAISA would like to celebrate the opening of its new facility – NAISA North Media Arts Centre – in South River Ontario with programming that is reflective of the past as well as using that reflection to inform future possibilities. For its 2018 programming, NAISA is interested in submissions that address the notion of Sonic Reflections and creative ways that this can be shared.

Preference in programming will be given to works that respond in some way to the theme Sonic Reflections. Individual interpretations or variations on the theme are encouraged, but should be realized with sound as the primary component. NAISA would also like to encourage artists to submit works on the theme for performance, interactive installation exhibit, audio-visual screening, radio or internet broadcast, telematics, VR/gaming, mobile experiences and any other emerging or alternative formats that include sound as a primary element. Please complete in full the online submission form and upload your audio by midnight on June 30, 2017. Note: there is a $5 submission fee in order to defray the cost of processing the submissions. Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) Submission Guidelines
Exhibition proposals are accepted throughout the year and reviews are ongoing.  Selection is carried out over a period of time through studio visits and correspondence with artists and curators in whom the gallery has an interest.  Those interested in proposing their work to SAAG are asked to include with their submission: a curriculum vitae, an artist statement and/or letter of intent, a wide selection of images, and other relevant support material. Submissions should be mailed to:

The gallery will not return your submission – please do not send original artworks or valuable materials.   Given the large number of submissions received by the gallery, formal letters of reply will only be issued to proposals of immediate interest.

Exhibitions are generally six weeks in length.  An opening is held to introduce the work to the public.  Artists are also invited to give an illustrated lecture on their work in conjunction with the University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Art during the academic year.  Other special events (workshops, panel discussions, etc.) are considered on a case-by-case basis.

The Southern Alberta Art Gallery pays CARFAC fees, shipping and insurance, and often seeks funding to produce catalogues for the exhibition.  All publications, including our quarterly newsletter GALLERY (which discusses and reproduces work by exhibiting artists along with other programming), are exchanged with other institutions in Canada and abroad.
