Saison d’exposition 2020
L’École d’art d’Ottawa (ÉAO) accepte dès maintenant les soumissions de projets d’exposition pour la saison d’exposition 2020. Les œuvres en cours ou envisagées peuvent être soumises tant pour la galerie du campus du marché By que pour la galerie du campus d’Orléans. L’appel est ouvert à tous les artistes; toutes les techniques artistiques sont admissibles. Les projets d’exposition collective sont aussi acceptés.

Les soumissions peuvent être effectuées pour la galerie du campus du marché By, pour celle du campus d’Orléans ou pour les deux galeries. Les candidats qui seront sélectionnés devront cependant choisir de présenter leur exposition à une seule des deux galeries. Dans le cas d’une soumission aux deux campus, vous devez aussi indiquer de quelle façon votre exposition s’adaptera aux dimensions distinctes des deux espaces de galerie.

Critères de soumission

Les soumissions doivent inclure les informations suivantes afin d’être considérées :

Un formulaire de soumission complété (formulaire PDF)
Le projet d’exposition
La démarche artistique pour l’exposition
Un Curriculum Vitae à jour (propositions de groupe : CV pour chaque artiste)
Un total de 10 images numériques ou vidéo du travail complété au cours des deux dernières années
Note : L’image d’une œuvre et l’image d’un détail de cette même œuvre compteront pour deux images. Chaque vidéo compte pour une image. La durée totale d’une vidéo par proposition ne doit pas excéder 15 minutes. Veuillez soumettre des images en format JPG uniquement, 300 ppp, pas plus volumineuses que 2 Mo chacune; format maximal RVB de 1240 pixels (longueur ou largeur). Soumettre des vidéos dans les formats suivants uniquement : AVI, FLV, WMV, MOV, MP4, pas plus de 500 Mo chacun.

 

Une liste de toutes les images/vidéos dans les formats suivants :
Un chiffre précédé d’un « 0 » (ex. : 01), vos initiales, l’année à laquelle votre œuvre ou vidéo a été complétée et le titre de votre image ou vidéo

(ex. : 01CB2019lumieresurleau.jpg). Assurez-vous que le nombre « 10 » précède la dernière image. Assurez-vous aussi que votre liste correspond à l’ordre dans lequel sont placées vos images/vidéos.

 

Note : Des sources d’images externes ou des liens vers des vidéos ne seront pas acceptés (ex. : YouTube, Vimo, etc.).

N’ajoutez aucun caractère, symbole, point, guillemet, etc. (tels #. « &, etc.) au nom des fichiers. Ne soumettez pas de fichiers à travers un logiciel de présentation (ex. : PowerPoint).

Il est de votre responsabilité de vous assurer que le matériel de la soumission est transmis dans un format lisible.

Les propositions mal organisées ne seront pas considérées.

 

Les propositions qui n’adhéreront pas aux critères énoncés ci-dessus seront considérées comme incomplètes et seront retirées du processus de sélection sans préavis.

 

Processus de sélection :

Un jury formé de trois professionnels du domaine artistique basera ses choix en fonction de la qualité du travail, de l’intégrité de l’ensemble du projet et du lien de celui-ci avec les programmes de l’ÉAO.

Les membres du jury se rencontreront au cours des quatre semaines suivant la date limite de soumission.

Les artistes dont les soumissions auront été révisées par le jury seront informés de la décision du jury au cours des deux semaines suivant la rencontre du jury.

 

Conditions de l’exposition :

L’artiste recevra (ou les artistes recevront) un cachet d’exposition selon le tarif fixé par CARFAC.

Les artistes sélectionnés assumeront la responsabilité du transport des œuvres et veilleront à se procurer une assurance transport à destination et en provenance de l’ÉAO.

Pour toutes les œuvres tridimensionnelles, vidéo ou médiatiques sélectionnées qui exigent des équipements spéciaux pour l’installation, il est de la responsabilité de l’artiste de fournir l’équipement nécessaire.

Third Space is now seeking project proposals from
artists, collectives and organizations to be included in THIRD SHIFT, our annual festival of public contemporary artworks !
ABOUT THIRD SHIFT

Established in 2015, THIRD SHIFT aims to offer citizens a unique opportunity to engage with contemporary art and re-imagine their city. THIRD SHIFT holds space for new experiences and communal exchange through the exhibition of temporary installations, interventions, performances and projections in the heart of Uptown Saint John. Motivated by the potential for deeper engagement, THIRD SHIFT has expanded its schedule to include two days of artistic presentations and workshops leading up to our signature nighttime exhibition on Friday, August 16th, 2019.

Geographically, THIRD SHIFT takes place within unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik, Mi’kmaq, and Passamaquoddy First Nations and in Canada’s first incorporated city. We encourage proposals that reflect our objectives as an alternative, non-commercial, contemporary artist-run centre. We aim to support efforts that are exploratory, challenging and critical in nature. We encourage emerging and established artists to propose projects that have not yet been realized as well as investigations that have been started or completed elsewhere.

SPOTLIGHT EXHIBITION

This year THIRD SHIFT will be hosting a SPOTLIGHT EXHIBITION generously sponsored by the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation. This will be a curated exhibition of 6-8 projects by New Brunswick artists within the wider festival that specifically explore the historical, architectural, cultural, or natural landscape of region. The works will be selected based on their capacity to unpack stories or issues within the city of Saint John or the province of New Brunswick’s past, present, and future in innovative and engaging ways.

PLEASE NOTE

Projects must be temporary or ephemeral in nature. They may however be set up to span any amount of time within the three days of the festival.
Third Space will be paying selected artists an honorarium fee in accordance to the 2019 CARFAC fee schedule.
Limited production and accommodation funds will be available. Amounts will depend on Third Space’s financial resources for the festival. Funding requirements must be outlined in your proposal.
Third Space does not provide technical equipment for projects such as projectors, screens and cables. We will however help artists secure power sources.
THIRD SHIFT takes place in various off-site locations. Third Space is committed to organizing a barrier-free festival and will work with artists to select project locations that meet their access requirements.

NEUTRAL GROUND:
Located in downtown Regina, Saskatchewan, on Treaty 4 Territory,
Neutral Ground is a not-for-profit, artist-run-centre that presents
contemporary visual and media art. We connect audiences to the work
of emerging and mid-career artists, and from established artists
experimenting with new directions in their practices.

Neutral Ground invites contemporary, professional artists to submit
artworks, exhibitions, projects, or performances in any media. We
welcome exhibition proposals from all professional artists regardless of
ability, age, culture, ethnicity, citizenship, gender identity, or race.
Neutral Ground pays artists in accordance with the current CARFAC
suggested fee schedule, for Category 1 galleries. (Please note that
proposals from artists based outside of Canada will be considered only
as budget and resources allow.)

PROPOSALS:
Proposals for the May 15th deadline will be assessed by jury in
consideration for the 2020 – 21 programming season. Proposals will be
accepted for both the Main Gallery and the Window Gallery. Neutral
Ground presents 4-5 exhibitions per year in the Main Gallery, as well
as additional performances and special events. Up to 6 presentations
per year are supported in the Window Gallery. (More details, floorpans
and proposal requirements available on our website.) Artists are limited
to one solo exhibition in a three year period and work that has been
shown previously in Regina will typically not be eligible.

We encourage experimentation, risk-taking, and work that pushes the
boundaries of artists established practices; Neutral Ground is receptive
to projects outside of a traditional exhibition format, including but not
limited to:
Community engagement initiatives;
Curatorial proposals;
Performance work;
Work to be developed and/or created on-site;
Projects that are in development/to be developed.

AKA supports the creation and development of artist driven initiatives and emerging practices that speak to, reflect and encourage dialogue in our culturally diverse communities. This includes work in all media by local, national and international artists. Our venues consist of a street-level gallery, billboard and multi-use screening and performance event space; we also source off-site locations for site-specific projects.

 

AKA accepts submissions on an ongoing basis for project/exhibition proposals that consider AKA’s history and setting.

 

Support for selected projects/exhibitions includes: curatorial assistance, shipping, insurance, installation/strike assistance, promotion, documentation and the potential development of accompanying programming suited to the form of the project. AKA pays artist fees at or (when possible) above the CARFAC national average.

Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) Submission Guidelines
Exhibition proposals are accepted throughout the year and reviews are ongoing.  Selection is carried out over a period of time through studio visits and correspondence with artists and curators in whom the gallery has an interest.  Those interested in proposing their work to SAAG are asked to include with their submission: a curriculum vitae, an artist statement and/or letter of intent, a wide selection of images, and other relevant support material. The gallery will not return your submission – please do not send original artworks or valuable materials.   Given the large number of submissions received by the gallery, formal letters of reply will only be issued to proposals of immediate interest.

 

Exhibitions are generally six weeks in length.  An opening is held to introduce the work to the public.  Artists are also invited to give an illustrated lecture on their work in conjunction with the University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Art during the academic year.  Other special events (workshops, panel discussions, etc.) are considered on a case-by-case basis.

The Southern Alberta Art Gallery pays CARFAC fees, shipping and insurance, and often seeks funding to produce catalogues for the exhibition.  All publications, including our quarterly newsletter GALLERY (which discusses and reproduces work by exhibiting artists along with other programming), are exchanged with other institutions in Canada and abroad.

Performensk is a second edition of the festival focusing on the presentation of performative art – an art which is presented live, “here and now“ in front of the audience. More specifically Performensk aims to present works belonging under fields of:

–performance/live art
–sound art

OPEN CALL
In this open call we are seeking for LONG DURATIONAL PERFORMANCES commissioned specifically for the Performensk 2019 festival and created in response to the festival’s site. Selected artists will be given an opportunity to come for a SHORT-TERM RESIDENCY (approximately one week) before the festival. During the time of the residency participants can prepare their individual projects or to form team(s) and work together. Under the term „long durational performance“ we understand performances whose length will be from several hours to several days and which will be happening simultaneously with the rest of the program.

THEME
The theme of this year’s edition of the festival is the SPACE.

It is a broad topic which could be approached from many different angles. From the mathematical perspective our current understanding of the space is largely based on the so called Euclid’s axioms formulated by the ancient mathematician and geometer Euclid. For example that the sum of angles of a triangle equals 180° or that two parallels never intersect.

If we take a step from mathematics and physics we can think of the space in philosophy: the philosophy of space and time representing the whole independent stream of thinking. Its proponents being such figures as Immanuel Kant, Gottfried Leibniz or Martin Heidegger. Many people are fascinated by the infinite cosmic space as well as the microcosmos invisible to the human eye. The space as a space for living is indivisible from our everyday lives. In the context of the mental space we are saying: “My head is full, I have no space for thinking.“ The space which is given to an individual in a society differs significantly in relation to his or her place of origin, social class, economical situation, gender, race, sexual orientation etc.

In the art context the space is one of the basic elements defining the final artwork. What is the relation between the work and the space in which is it realized? Is it possible to transfer the piece into an other location or is it indivisible from the space in which it was created? What is the difference between the transferable projects created for the theatre “black boxes“ (or “white cubes“ of galleries) and site-specific works tightly connected to the particular locations? What is the size of the respective artwork? Is it small, almost invisible or monumental?

There are many factors which influence possibilities of an artist to realize him or herself freely, to „have a space“ for their creation. Artist’s economical situation is one of them. For those financially independent it is easier to create for quite obvious reasons: they do not have to invest energy and time in the money-making and can focus solely on their art. The art market offers an income opportunity but it also brings a risk of commodification. Both the content and the form are being adapted for the purposes of the grant applications, artists are fighting each other for funds. Rather than on the perfectioning of the work the energy is being spent on the self-promotion. Crucial is also the censorship issue. An impossibility to realize oneself freely complicates and deforms the artistic work. While in some communities the value of art for the society is recognized, in other cases the art becomes only a tool supporting the ruling ideology, be it due to the ignorance or with a deliberate power aims.

QUI SOMMES-NOUS ?

Notre projet artis­ti­que et cultu­rel

Situé en plein cœur des Hautes-Alpes, en milieu rural, le centre d’art contem­po­rain Les Capucins conçoit :
quatre à cinq expo­si­tions par an,
un pro­gramme de sen­si­bi­li­sa­tion avec notam­ment des visi­tes et ate­liers à l’atten­tion des sco­lai­res,
un pro­gramme d’évènements cultu­rels (ren­contres, pro­jec­tions, per­for­man­ces, ate­liers…),
et depuis 2017, des rési­den­ces d’artis­tes (sur sol­li­ci­ta­tion et appel à projet).

Le centre d’art contem­po­rain Les Capucins, en tant qu’espace de recher­che, d’expé­ri­men­ta­tion et de pro­duc­tion, orga­nise des expo­si­tions et des évènements conçus spé­ci­fi­que­ment pour le lieu ins­crit dans un ter­ri­toire de mon­ta­gne.

Les artis­tes sont invi­tés le plus sou­vent à réa­li­ser des pièces iné­di­tes en consi­dé­rant le contexte spé­ci­fi­que des Capucins. Cette impli­ca­tion du côté de la pro­duc­tion, cou­plée à un tra­vail de pros­pec­tion, permet au centre d’art de se posi­tion­ner, non pas comme un simple relai de ce qui a déjà été exposé, mais au début de la chaîne de dif­fu­sion. Parallèlement, le centre d’art contem­po­rain Les Capucins conçoit des pro­gram­mes de sen­si­bi­li­sa­tion et de média­tion ambi­tieux et inno­vants à l’atten­tion de tous les publics, ama­teurs et pro­fes­sion­nels, jeunes et adul­tes.

Notre espace de tra­vail

Le centre d’art permet au rési­dent de béné­fi­cier d’un espace de vie ainsi que de moyens pro­pi­ces au déve­lop­pe­ment d’une recher­che. Son implan­ta­tion en milieu rural invite l’artiste à consi­dé­rer ses spé­ci­fi­ci­tés géo­gra­phi­ques, his­to­ri­ques et cultu­rel­les, à savoir une zone mon­ta­gneuse avec une faible den­sité de popu­la­tion. Néanmoins le centre d’art contem­po­rain Les Capucins initie des pro­gram­mes reven­di­quant le foi­son­ne­ment et l’ambi­va­lence plutôt que des lec­tu­res défi­ni­ti­ves et uni­vo­ques.

Sur place, l’équipe des Capucins accom­pa­gne l’artiste en rési­dence dans les divers aspects de sa recher­che et en le met­tant en rela­tion avec des struc­tu­res res­sour­ces et inter­lo­cu­teurs pou­vant contri­buer au déve­lop­pe­ment du projet.

Le centre d’art contem­po­rain Les Capucins dis­pose d’un ate­lier équipé, cepen­dant cet espace de tra­vail n’est pas chauffé et ne béné­fi­cie pas de lumière natu­relle.

LA RESIDENCE

A propos

Cette rési­dence est des­ti­née à donner les moyens à un artiste pro­fes­sion­nel, rele­vant de tous les domai­nes d’expres­sion, de déve­lop­per une recher­che ori­gi­nale qui nour­rira ses pro­jets à venir.

Ce pro­gramme est ouvert à tous les artis­tes fran­çais ou étrangers, sans limite d’âge, maî­tri­sant l’usage oral de la langue fran­çaise et dis­po­sant d’un permis de conduire pour véhi­cule léger vala­ble en France.

Une ren­contre publi­que est orga­ni­sée pen­dant la période de rési­dence (elle peut pren­dre la forme d’une per­for­mance, d’une lec­ture… selon le projet déve­loppé par l’artiste). L’artiste est invité à y pré­sen­ter sa pra­ti­que et la recher­che qu’il mène au centre d’art contem­po­rain Les Capucins.

Conditions d’accueil

La rési­dence aura lieu à partir de mi-sep­tem­bre 2019 et jusqu’à fin décem­bre 2019 sur une durée de 8 semai­nes conti­guës ou non (maxi­mum en 2 fois), défi­nies par un plan­ning entre le centre d’art contem­po­rain Les Capucins et l’artiste.
Hébergement : mise à dis­po­si­tion d’un studio de 35m² à l’usage seul de l’artiste.
Les frais de dépla­ce­ment seront rem­bour­sés à l’artiste par la mairie d’Embrun sur pré­sen­ta­tion de jus­ti­fi­ca­tifs et pour un mon­tant maxi­mal de 500€ : aller-retour à partir du domi­cile.

Bourse

L’artiste rece­vra une bourse de 4 000€ com­pre­nant hono­rai­res, frais inhé­rents à la recher­che ainsi que besoins per­son­nels.

Le can­di­dat sera sélec­tionné selon les cri­tè­res sui­vants :
Qualités artis­ti­ques du projet ins­crit dans des pro­blé­ma­ti­ques contem­po­rai­nes,

Imago Inc. est un centre d’artistes autogéré de production en estampe.

 

Le mandat de l’atelier Imago est de promouvoir et diffuser la création artistique dans le domaine de l’estampe contemporaine. Fondé en 1986 et incorporé en 1992, par 11 artistes du sud-est du Nouveau-Brunswick, le centre offre un lieu de recherche à ses membres et un atelier fonctionnel aux artistes.

 

L’atelier d’estampe Imago Inc. est à la recherche d’artistespourtravailler dans son atelier pendant une période de 2 à 3 semaines. La résidence doit avoir lieu entre septembre et avril.

 

Imago prend en charge les frais de transport, l’hébergement et offre un cachet d’artiste de 500$ par semaine.

 

Les artistes possédant une expertise dans le domaine de l’estampe qui désirent présenter un projetdoivent soumettre un dossier comprenant :

Certains logements sont spécifiquement adaptés à l’activité artistique : la Cité internationale dispose de deux ateliers-logements pour artistes plasticiens et six studios avec cabine insonorisée pour les musiciens. Les différentes maisons de la Cité internationale peuvent également accueillir des artistes et professionnels de la culture en fonction de la disponibilité de leurs logements (sans espace de travail). Le tarif des logements varient selon le type, le confort et la durée du séjour.

Les statuts de la cité prévoient en effet que pour y être admis, la venue de l’artiste doit s’inscrire dans le cadre d’un projet précis soutenu institutionnellement (venue sur invitation d’une structure culturelle française, ou sur envoi d’une structure culturelle du pays de résidence de l’artiste, pour une réalisation spécifique). Cette institution doit soutenir financièrement le projet, et donc le séjour de l’artiste à Paris.

 

D’autre part, la cité prévoit dans ses statuts que les artistes soient étrangers ou en mobilité internationale.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: City of Toronto “Outside the Box”
(Hand-painted Traffic Signal Boxes) Project

Deadline: Monday, April 8 2019, at 5:00 pm. EST

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The City of Toronto invites local area artists to submit proposals to create works of art on City traffic signal boxes throughout Toronto. There are over 2,200 traffic signal boxes located across Toronto at signalized intersections. These boxes are often covered with posters and are a prime target for graffiti vandalism.

The Outside the Box public art initiative helps to bring diverse and interesting public art to neighbourhoods, reduces the impact of graffiti vandalism and postering, contributes to the vitality and attractiveness of the streetscape, helps to beautify City infrastructure and streets, and supports local and emerging artists.

Artwork on traffic signal boxes functions as a form of communication to a passer-by with the goal to create a vibrant, inclusive and interesting urban environment. Successful proposals will be innovative in design, foster community pride, counteract graffiti vandalism and contribute to a sense of identity for residents and businesses.

The Outside the Box program is an initiative of the City of Toronto’s Transportation Services Division. Since it was launched in 2013, over 295 boxes have been hand-painted by local artists.

ARTIST FEE

Selected artists will receive a fee of a $750 (honorarium and materials including HST) for each completed traffic signal box and licencing rights that will enable the City to reproduce the final design for promotional purposes.

APPLICATION & DESIGN CRITERIA

• Artist applicants must reside in the City of Toronto.
• Artist applicants cannot be City of Toronto employees.
• Use the template provided on the website to submit your design concept. Designs must cover all visible sides of the traffic signal box, unless where specified by the StART project team or specified on the list of box locations.
• When designing the artwork, artists are encouraged to think of the context of the area and the city as a whole.
• Designs must not contain:
  • any representations of traffic lights, signs or signals
  • advertisement or promotion for any business, product or viewpoint
  • vulgar, profane, offensive, or insensitive images or writing
  • any breach of intellectual property, trademarks, brands, images of illegal activity or involve the attachment of any object(s) to the box
• Consideration should be given to the fact that the finished artwork(s) will be in the public domain and therefore may be vandalized. Although the City will protect the artwork with a vandal resistant clear coat, it cannot guarantee that vandalized traffic signal boxes will be repaired and the artwork restored to its original state. Further, artists should understand that the finished works will be on functioning equipment that will need repair or replacing at some point in time. As such, The City cannot guarantee how long each traffic signal box will be in use. Artists must accept the risk that their artwork may be damaged, altered or removed at any time after completion.
• All designs will be subject to review and approval by the City of Toronto.
• Artist signature and website cannot occupy more than ¼ of the base unit.

LOCATION OF TRAFFIC SIGNAL BOXES

For 2019, Outside the Box aims to have 50 traffic signal boxes hand-painted by local artists. The majority of the boxes will be located in North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke.

PAINTING WEEKS

Artists must specify in their application which of the 2 designated weeks they will be available to paint.

• Week 1 (June 17 – 24, 2019)
• Week 2 (July 8 – 15, 2019)

In some cases, depending on box location, some flexibility may be required and an artist may be requested to paint their box on another date if necessary. A single traffic signal box generally takes two days to complete but is dependent on the intricacy of the design and other variables including weather.

Artists may submit no more than one design proposals (template) along with a statement for each design. No artist will be selected for more than 1 traffic signal box.

OTTAWA, CANADA invite des équipes d’artistes du monde entier à soumettre leurs qualifications aux fins d’examen dans le cadre de la première étape d’un concours public. Les équipes sélectionnées se joindront à l’équipe de conception de l’Étape 2 du train léger sur rail d’Ottawa (TLRO) pour concrétiser leurs projets d’art public dans les stations de la ville afin de rendre la ville flamboyante pour les visiteurs et les citoyens.

Le Programme d’art public du TLRO constitue une plateforme grâce à laquelle des équipes d’artistes peuvent créer des oeuvres d’art public qui feront d’Ottawa l’un des chefs de file de l’art contemporain innovant et stimulant dans les projets de train léger. L’objectif est de relier les lignes de transport en commun, les secteurs et la géographie de la ville par une même trame narrative et d’améliorer l’expérience des usagers du transport en commun.

Si la Ville d’Ottawa peut réaliser le Programme d’art public de l’O-Train, c’est grâce à sa politique d’art public, qui consacre aux oeuvres d’art public 1 % du budget pour les projets d’immobilisations.

The Civic Precinct public art competition, open to professional artists and artist teams residing in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, is held in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy “Percent for Art to Provide and Encourage Art in Public Areas” (C458C).

This opportunity is a three-step process to be a consultant, design and build:

• Step 1 – artist works as a consultant working with the project team to engage with stakeholders and collaborate meaningfully with children to develop an overall concept or child-friendly public art.
• Step 2 – artist is embedded within the design team to develop artistic enhancements to the Churchill Square East Gardens renovation plans to create inviting and accessible spaces for play.
• Step 3 – artist is offered the opportunity to create a welcoming child-friendly permanent public artwork(s) for Centennial Plaza behind the Stanley A. Milner Library.

Third Space is now seeking project proposals from
artists, collectives and organizations to be included in THIRD SHIFT, our annual festival of public contemporary artworks!
ABOUT THIRD SHIFT

Established in 2015, THIRD SHIFT aims to offer citizens a unique opportunity to engage with contemporary art and re-imagine their city. THIRD SHIFT holds space for new experiences and communal exchange through the exhibition of temporary installations, interventions, performances and projections in the heart of Uptown Saint John. Motivated by the potential for deeper engagement, THIRD SHIFT has expanded its schedule to include two days of artistic presentations and workshops leading up to our signature nighttime exhibition on Friday, August 16th, 2019.

Geographically, THIRD SHIFT takes place within unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik, Mi’kmaq, and Passamaquoddy First Nations and in Canada’s first incorporated city. We encourage proposals that reflect our objectives as an alternative, non-commercial, contemporary artist-run centre. We aim to support efforts that are exploratory, challenging and critical in nature. We encourage emerging and established artists to propose projects that have not yet been realized as well as investigations that have been started or completed elsewhere.

SPOTLIGHT EXHIBITION

This year THIRD SHIFT will be hosting a SPOTLIGHT EXHIBITION generously sponsored by the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation. This will be a curated exhibition of 6-8 projects by New Brunswick artists within the wider festival that specifically explore the historical, architectural, cultural, or natural landscape of region. The works will be selected based on their capacity to unpack stories or issues within the city of Saint John or the province of New Brunswick’s past, present, and future in innovative and engaging ways.

PLEASE NOTE

Projects must be temporary or ephemeral in nature. They may however be set up to span any amount of time within the three days of the festival.
Third Space will be paying selected artists an honorarium fee in accordance to the 2019 CARFAC fee schedule.
Limited production and accommodation funds will be available. Amounts will depend on Third Space’s financial resources for the festival. Funding requirements must be outlined in your proposal.
Third Space does not provide technical equipment for projects such as projectors, screens and cables. We will however help artists secure power sources.
THIRD SHIFT takes place in various off-site locations. Third Space is committed to organizing a barrier-free festival and will work with artists to select project locations that meet their access requirements.

The Beltline Urban Murals Project (BUMP), presented by the Beltline Neighbourhoods Association, is entering its third year, and we are looking for experienced muralists to install murals in Calgary’s Beltline community.

BUMP is a ongoing initiative to promote public art in the form of murals in Calgary. More murals will be added annually, and the program will expand with new offerings, events and ideas every year.

We believe that public art can enrich communities, create beautiful and captivating places, challenge our ideas, provoke discussion or simply add beauty to our day. We seek a variety of artists, with diverse experiences, backgrounds, styles and techniques that reflects our values of creativity, inclusiveness and beauty.

BUMP is inviting muralists from all countries to submit their qualifications for consideration for the project. Murals will be installed in the months of August and early September. RFQ details can be found at www.yycbump.ca

Commission Brief

The City of Kelowna, through its Public Art Program, announces an open international competition to commission a unique and original artwork to be placed within one of the City’s most popular parks – Boyce-Gyro Beach Park. The commission presents an opportunity to recognize people’s active lifestyle and commitment to healthy and alternative modes of movement. The City’s intent for this public art piece is an artistic and creative exploration of the emotive aspects of cycling such as: celebration, motivation, sustainability, community, etc. The artwork is envisioned to have major digital and/or interactive component(s) incorporated into its design. Input sources to animate the art piece are at the Artist’s discretion. Artists should have experience in multi-media, digital and electronic based art forms and technically proficient in manipulating computer coded data into a variety of sensory and cognitive experiences that will be situated within an outdoor, publicly accessible, environment.

To promote and encourage more cycling, the City of Kelowna has recently adopted a pilot bikeshare program called Dropbike. Since its launch in the spring of 2018, the Dropbike program has been an overwhelming success. Data collected has demonstrated a strong demand and support for cycling as an alternative mode of transportation within the city. In addition, the City’s Integrated Transportation Department currently uses an Eco-Counter management system to track cyclist and pedestrian usage across the City and data collected can be accessed and used by the artist as part of the artwork’s interactive component. Given the value of the commission, the artwork is expected to have a minimum 10 year operational lifespan, with an opportunity to upgrade components to further extend the artwork’s life beyond this period.

Budget

A budget of $120,000 CAD has been allocated for the commissioning of the artwork. This sum is inclusive of all artists’ fees, technical consulting fees (including engineered drawings), insurance requirements, fabrication, installation, documentation, travel expenses and all other related costs.

Selection Process

This is the first of a two-stage selection process. As part of the first stage, a selection of up to five (5) shortlisted artists will be determined by the City’s public art selection committee based on demonstrated experience and perceived abilities in the following areas: excellence in public art; experience and technical proficiency in use of digital display artwork; artistic merit and originality; and technical considerations.

Submission Requirements

This is open international competition to all professional artists and artist-led teams as defined by the Canada Council for the Arts. This first stage does not require the preparation of a design proposal. Artists are to submit their letter of expression of interest, along with CV and examples of their works, to the City of Kelowna prior to the deadline closure: 4pm PT. April 17, 2019.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS:
TORONTO SCULPTURE GARDEN

From its opening in 1981, the Toronto Sculpture Garden (TSG) commissioned temporary artworks by over 80 artists, in a small City of Toronto park opposite St. James Cathedral on King Street east. Until 2014, it was operated as a partnership between the City of Toronto and the Louis L. Odette family, whose non-profit L.L.O. Sculpture Garden Foundation funded and administered the exhibitions. Under the direction of Rina Greer, the TSG provided artists with the opportunity to work experimentally in public space, explore issues of scale and materials, and engage with the local community as well as visitors to the neighbourhood. For some, the expansion of their practice beyond the studio led to major public artworks elsewhere.

Now managed by the City of Toronto’s Economic Development & Culture Division, the TSG hosts two projects per year.

The Fall 2019 Sculpture Garden project will be presented in partnership with the inaugural Toronto Biennial of Art, which will take place along the waterfront and in other parts of the city from September 21 to December 1, 2019. The work for the Sculpture Garden will be connected thematically and practically with other artworks in the Biennial exhibitions.

The Biennial will feature works by Canadian and international artists in public spaces and unexpected locations. Many projects will be presented in collaboration with not-for-profit galleries, museums, community organizations, and educational institutions across the city.

Curatorial Direction

The curators for the 2019 Toronto Biennial of Art ask artists to consider “how can we be in relation?” This question is intended to decenter the individual in place of a multiplicity. What is our role when we imagine our position amidst an infinite constellation of beings, human and non-human, animate and inanimate? And might this be a future? The future’s future? By focusing on relations, kinships, and interdependencies, we open ourselves up to ancient ideas, alternative histories, sacred belief systems, and ways of knowing. We also look further back, towards a deeper, geological sense of time. Measured in eons, not centuries. And by recalibrating the compass by which we view the past, we also direct our gaze to a multiplicity of futures: Indigenous futurisms, Black futurisms, migrant futurisms, animal futurisms.

The Biennial will take place primarily within an area framed by the original boundaries of the so-called Toronto Purchase (1805), which ran from Ashbridges Bay to Etobicoke Creek. For the First Peoples, who have maintained a presence here for over 15,000 years, this is a site of spiritual healing, trade, treaty, and gathering. In the current era, it has been deeply inscribed by much newer settler, slave and immigrant narratives, just as it has also been physically transformed by industrial, military and civilian use. In years to come, this line will be redrawn again by radical development and re-naturalization. Existing on the edge of Lake Ontario, part of the largest freshwater system on Earth, we view it in relation. And at each new magnification we get a different view of our role in a multitude of ecosystems: collaborative and destructive, ecological and capitalistic, civic and colonial.

Competition Process

The successful proposal will be selected by the TSG Selection Panel, which will include a member of the Biennial curatorial team. Preference will be given to new work that responds to the site and the curatorial direction; only in exceptional cases will existing work be considered.

Budget: $30,000.00 CAD (+HST), which includes all artists’ fees, materials, installation and removal, transportation, insurance, and permits.

The Western Front Society is seeking a candidate for the full-time position of Executive Director.

Established in 1973, the Western Front is one of Canadas leading artist-run centres for contemporary art and new music. We produce and present visual art, exhibitions, new music concerts, workshops and commissions, media-art residencies, performance art and other artist-driven initiatives. The Western Front currently maintains programs in Exhibitions, Media Art and New Music, as well as an extensive archive of audio-visual materials. Through this diverse programming we continue to be a crucial platform for interdisciplinary, experimental art practices in Canada and internationally.

We seek a strong leader with the ability and desire to work towards organizational goals and questions around collaboration, diversity, multidisciplinary practices and
contemporary artistic experimentation.

Responsibilities:

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall vision and management of the
organization. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will:

Oversee fundraising, fund development planning and implementation, and grant
writing
Collaborate with program curators on artistic vision for the organization
Facilitate strategic planning and policy development
Manage and maintain a heritage building and administer lease agreements with
tenants
Foster partnerships within local, national and international arts communities
Hire, supervise and mentor staff
Attend Board meetings and actively support the board and its committees with
appropriate administration and reports
Develop broad community through community engagement, networking and
development
Act as a spokesperson representing the Western Front to other cultural
organizations and the public

Ideal candidate will have:

Ability to work collaboratively with staff and board
Proven leadership at an art or cultural centre
An understanding of the artist-run centres movement and contemporary concerns
Excellent knowledge of contemporary art, music and literary practices
Interest in and knowledge of architecture, infrastructure and building management
Ability to foster a healthy collegial working environment
Experience with budget preparation, financial management and working within
fixed budgets
Previous history of successful grant writing and fundraising experience
Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills
Strong planning and organization skills including the ability to prioritize projects and
manage time effectively
Develop community relations and promote the Western Front locally, nationally and
