Réalisation : Entre le 1er octobre 2010 et le 31 mai 2011
Ce programme s’adresse aux artistes professionnels et de la relève désirant explorer les nouvelles avenues qui allient les techniques numériques et ou traditionnelles de l’estampe originale. Les artistes auront la possibilité de créer un corpus d’oeuvres ou de réaliser une édition dans l’une ou l’autre des techniques pratiquées à Zocalo sur une période d’une à trois semaines. Zocalo offre l’accès à des espaces de travail permettant la réalisation d’estampes en impression numérique, en relief et en creux.
La sélection est faite par les membres de notre Conseil d’administration selon les critères d’évaluation suivants :
• L’intérêt et la pertinence du projet face à la notion de développement des nouveaux langages et des supports non traditionnels dans le médium de l’estampe
• La faisabilité du projet en fonction du budget et des ressources offerts par Zocalo
Conditions :
• Cachet de production de 250 $
• Accès aux ateliers de production pendant 2 mois
• 25 heures d’assistance technique d’une valeur de 600 $
• Matériel jusqu’à concurrence de 100 $
• Carte de membre pour l’année en cours
• Prévoir une rencontre de deux heures pour une discussion avec les membres de l’atelier à la fin de la résidence
• Une à deux oeuvres (selon le format) devront être déposés à l’atelier

Bien implanté dans sa région et sur la scène nationale, Caravansérail assiste la relève artistique depuis plus de 5 ans, tant dans la production et la promotion que dans la diffusion des arts visuels au Québec. L’intérêt que nous manifestons envers les artistes professionnels de la relève nous rend sensibles à l’émergence d’œuvres novatrices, au développement de stratégies de diffusion inédites et à la résurgence de réflexions en adéquation avec notre époque.
Dans le cadre de sa programmation 2011-2012, le Centre d’artistes Caravansérail invite les artistes de la relève en arts visuels et les commissaires qui amorcent leur carrière à soumettre leur dossier pour un projet d’exposition ou tout autre projet spécifique (performance, projet hors les murs, etc.) pouvant s’inscrire dans le cadre de ses activités.

JEUX DU CANADA DE 2011–Les Jeux du Canada sont à la recherche de concepts pour les médailles
Laissez votre imagination vous emporter vers l’or, l’argent ou le bronze. La Société hôtesse des Jeux du Canada de 2011 à Halifax accepte dès maintenant des concepts originaux pour les médailles des Jeux de 2011.
Les médailles représentent le plus grand accomplissement pour tous les participants aux Jeux du Canada. Plus de 1 100 médailles seront produites et attribuées au cours des 18 jours des Jeux en février prochain.
Ce concours est ouvert à tous les résidents néo-écossais âgés de 13 ans et plus.
Le concept gagnant des médailles peut être de n’importe quelle forme mais doit inclure le logo des Jeux et refléter la nature unique, le thème, la culture et l’esprit des Jeux du Canada de 2011 et de la Nouvelle-Écosse. L’artiste choisi recevra une série commémorative de médailles et sera associé au concept lors de toute mention des médailles.
Les critères pour le concept des médailles, les renseignements détaillés sur les soumissions et l’information sur les normes de graphisme peuvent être consultés en ligne sur notre site Web à l’adresse jeuxducanada2011.ca.

Les Jeux d’hiver du Canada de 2011 seront le plus important événement multisports jamais tenu à Halifax et les premiers Jeux d’hiver du Canada pour la ville. Du 11 au 27 février 2011, plus de 2 700 athlètes seront sur place pour prendre part à des compétitions dans plus de 20 sports, attirant ainsi des milliers de visiteurs, de dignitaires, d’officiels et de membres des médias.
Organisés tous les deux ans, et alternant entre l’été et l’hiver, les Jeux du Canada sont un événement clé pour le développement des jeunes athlètes du pays. Ils préparent les champions nationaux, internationaux et olympiques de demain.

Dans le cadre du Programme d’art public, la Ville d’Ottawa administre deux galeries professionnelles : la Galerie Karsh-Masson et la Galerie d’art de l’hôtel de ville. Butcher Gallery | Open Call for Trashy, Sexy, Internet Video | APR 23
An ocularcentric assault on the erotics of visuality
Butcher Gallery is accepting submissions of video and
performance for a one-night mashup video installation!
Submissions are due Friday April 23, 2010 at 11:59 p.m., for
exhibition in early summer.
We are looking for video submissions pertaining to themes of
trash, desire, destruction, domination and communion in sexy,
violence- video (art) made for the Internet or inspired by it. Live
performances, performance in front of projection, or
performance on video are all welcome. Guest curator, Jennifer
Chan will disgorge the selected submissions in a mash up
projection installation. Submissions need not be overtly sexy or
violent and can be found footage, documentary, animation,
violence to or against images, fetishistic…etc.
We are calling for submissions from emerging artists, graduating
students, recent graduates, and amateur vloggers. This one
night screening provides artists and non-artists, amateur
producers, performers and/or web geeks with an alternative
exhibition experience.
Accepted artists must consent to their work being remixed,
mashed, looped, and effectively hacked apart to pieces by
curator Jennifer Chan. High quality .mov files or DV video and
stills should be available for accepted submissions. Butcher will
provide technical assistance where possible and basic
audio/video equipment for live performance (see equipment
list).
We welcome submissions from outside of Toronto, but please
note that Butcher Gallery cannot provide curator or artist fees,
travel fees, or cover the transporting or insurance of artwork—
although we wish we could. All submissions will be reviewed by
a selection committee of emerging artists and relevant
professionals.

Ottawa International Animation Festival: Call for Entries
North America’s largest animation event, the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) is now accepting film submissions for the 2010 edition.
Thousands of animators, students and studio executives will fly, bus, drive, sail and walk to the nation’s capital from October 20-24 to take part in the 2010 OIAF. The five-day festival is jammed packed with screenings, presentations, parties and the Television Animation Conference (Oct. 20 and 21).
Every year, the best animation from around the world is screened in competition and retrospectives. More than 2100 entries are received annually, but only 100 will make the cut. Animators are invited to submit their recent work in six major categories including Independent Short films, Feature films, New Media, Commissioned films (TV series, commercials, music videos etc), Student films and Work Made for Children.
All entries for this year’s competition must be received by June 1. The deadline for preview DVDs is June 15. There is no entry fee.

OUR MANDATE
Gallery TPW has an expansive media-specific mandate to address the vital role that images play in contemporary culture and to explore the exchange between photography, video, film and new technologies. Our programming includes solo and curated group exhibitions, intermittent curated video and film screenings, performance events and discursive activity.
Gallery TPW welcomes presentation proposals from local, national and international artists and curators in all stages of their careers. Gallery TPW also actively develops conceptually meaningful institutional partnerships and welcomes related inquiries.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Please include:
* Artist or curatorial statement with exhibition, screening or event proposal.
* 15 to 20 images – digital format on Mac accessible CD. DO NOT send digital images as Power Point presentations. Time-based work should be in DVD format.

Saint Norbert Arts Centre: Call to Visual Artists, Deadline May 20
Call for Submission: STONE AGE
Saint Norbert Arts Centre (SNAC) is now accepting submissions for their upcoming Stone Age exhibition.
Open to Manitoba artists, Stone Age will feature artistic creations inspired by the words “stone age”, to be interpreted in any which way captures the artist’s imagination. The concept was developed on behalf of the SNAC and surrounding communities who have initiated the move of a large stone, believed to have been an ancient buffalo rubbing stone, from its current location in the newly developing Southwood Golf and Country Club. The stone is said to have once been a sacred gathering place for bison, an ancient geographic anomaly said to have been deposited during the ice age.
The new location for the stone is at the newly planned Medicine Wheel garden on SNAC property, where it can be visited by all in perpetuity and become a place of healing.
The overall artistic intent of the exhibition is to benefit creatively from the tragedy of displacement of this once venerated object, and to use this accident of circumstance as a tool for healing and contemplation. This exhibition will feature creations by Manitoba artists inspired by the words “stone age” in any possible application.

Arts Fellowship, 2010 – 2011
The Living Arts Centre invites new graduates of arts institutions to submit applications for the 2010 – 2011 Arts Fellowship in the Wood Studio.
The Arts Fellowship program is an exciting new initiative that offers graduates an opportunity to work within a professional studio environment for up to a two-year term. This program provides a venue to assist new artists with the production of their first body of work in a specialized studio. The successful applicant will be awarded up to a two-year residency for up to 25 hours of working time per week in the Wood Studio at a highly subsidized rate of $100 per month.

• The ability to complete an independent body of work to use when approaching galleries and commercial institutions therefore jumpstarting a professional career

Eligibility and Application
To be eligible for the competition, applicants must be new graduates (within two years of graduation) of a post-secondary school degree in studio arts, or of an educational equivalent. Artists must submit a full application package including the following information:
1. completed application form;
2. full artist CV as of application date outlining education, exhibition history (if any), and awards/scholarships;
3. formal artist statement – 500 words or less;
4. 500 word statement describing how the applicant will benefit from receipt of the scholarship;
5. 10 digital images and/or video submissions of work produced within two years prior to the application date;
6. 2 Letters of recommendation, sealed and unopened by the applicant;
7. SASE for the return of application materials
Applications are due by Monday, May 31, 2010
Selection Process
A shortlist of applicants will be forwarded to the Living Arts Centre’s Advisors, professional artists and educators in the field of wood construction/furniture. Advisors will recommend which applicants will be offered a final interview at which time the candidate will be evaluated based on the strength of their application and the ability to demonstrate the following:
1. Sufficient knowledge of all studio equipment and health and safety standards;
2. The potential for further growth in the medium;
3. The ability to work in a collaborative environment;
4. The willingness to assist with gallery installations.
Mid-term Review
The successful candidate will be invited to work within the studio for a one-year term prior to the mid-term review. Pending a productive, successful first term, the candidate may be invited to participate in a second term the following year. The first term will commence on September 1, 2010 and end on August 31, 2011.

First Nations, Inuit and Métis artists
Introduction
The Department of Equity Services at Carleton University is seeking to purchase artworks by First Nations, Inuit and Métis artists in all visual arts media for display on the Carleton campus. Artists who would like their work to be considered for purchase must submit images of existing artwork, or drop off original artworks, for the jury’s review.
Eligibility
The request for submissions is open to emerging and established First Nations, Inuit and Métis artists who are based in the National Capital Region (Ottawa and Gatineau). Carleton students and alumni are welcome to submit artwork, but Carleton employees are not eligible. Emerging and established artists have either trained in their communities and/or completed specialized artistic training, and are recognized by their community and/or their peers as committed to the practice of art.
Selection criteria
Artwork submitted to this competition will be evaluated on its artistic merit, regional importance and innovation. A jury of art professionals will review only those applications received by the deadline date. Visual arts include painting, prints, photography, sculpture and fiber.
Copyright
Copyright of artworks shall remain the property of the artist. Moral rights remain with the artist. The Department of Equity Services will seek copyright permission to reproduce the images for non-profit publicity purposes.

You may submit artwork OR a CD of images of artwork.
1. Deliver artwork from April 26-30, 2010 inclusively to Department of Equity Services, Carleton University, Room 503 Robertson Hall, along with an image list, contact information, current CV and artist’s statement (see information below 4, 5 and 6). Please clearly label each artwork with your name and the title of the work.

2. Submit one CD with a maximum of 10 images available for purchase. Submissions may include up to 10 images so the jury can evaluate the overall quality of the artist’s work.
3. Submit digital images on a CD formatted for PC at 72 dpi. Label each image file with a number and title of work to ensure that they are presented chronologically and follow your image list. Do not submit PowerPoint presentations or websites.
4. Submit an accompanying image list (including name of artist, number of image, title, date, medium, dimensions, and price).
5. Please ensure the CD is clearly labeled with your name, telephone number, and email address.
6. Artists may also include a current CV and artist’s statement to aid the jury in its decision-making; this is optional and not mandatory.
Please note: The CDs submitted by successful candidates will be kept by the Department of Equity Services; others will be disposed of unless otherwise noted. Original artwork delivered to the Department of Equity Services must be picked up on May 6th and 7th, 2010.

White Water Gallery

The White Water Gallery is currently accepting submissions for the 2011 & 2012 programming seasons. This call is open to artists, collectives, performers, curators and critics working in any/all media.
Founded in 1977, the White Water Gallery has played a leading role in the promotion and dissemination of contemporary visual art and culture, both locally and nationally. As a not-for-profit artist-run centre, the Gallery aims to facilitate a diverse range of artistic programming. We offer the use of a dedicated exhibition space, audio-video equipment for time-based projects, as well as the support of our members and volunteers. We also encourage initiatives that seek to expand our programming beyond the gallery space, and welcome proposals for site-specific projects. The programming committee reviews submissions following the deadline.

This Request for Expressions of Interest and Statement of
Qualifications is issued by Hillsboro Investments Ltd. to invite
interested professional artists or a team of artists who have experience
working with glass to submit their credentials for consideration by
Hillsboro’s Selection Panel. This Call is open only to Canadian Artists.
The artwork program intends to commission distinctive,
meritorious works by exemplary Canadian artists for locations within
River Green a new community to be developed by Hillsboro Investments
Ltd. in Richmond, BC. Detailed planning of an elevated walkway area will
be undertaken with the architect and an artist or a team of artists
that have been selected as per this Call for Qualifications.
It is the intent of the project that the glazing on a pedestrian
bridge connector will have an art component that is integrated into the
glazing. The artwork will allow for views to the north and south while
at the same time be an interesting component from the outside. The
created artwork will be a response to the artists’ own thoughtful and
creative interpretation of the site and the setting.

Survival Kit 2 – Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art, Riga
„Survival Kit 2” international art project
Last September the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art produced an international art project SURVIVAL KIT, which invited over 70 artists to reflect upon diverse survival strategies in the modern world. The global society is currently actively preoccupied with this subject and it has become particularly urgent also in Latvia. The project took place in the empty shopping spaces of the city, one of the most noticeable features in the face of the economic crisis. Artists turned the empty retail premises into creative laboratories that housed exhibitions, an improvised second-hand fashion parlour, a bookstore and a whole array of activities that involved the society.

This autumn the next stage of the project is planned to take place, using the new initiatives and creative incubators as a platform for SURVIVAL KIT 2 project. The current situation is characterized by a fiasco of liberal capitalism, a collapse of economy, threats to the ecology, outbreaks of regional conflicts.
What can artists do in this situation? Keep searching for creative survival strategies by finding innovative and witty solutions.
SURVIVAL KIT 2 is characterized by the following keywords: migration, community, utopia, alternative economy, power, ecology. In the previous SURVIVAL KIT project, at the time when the society was just getting acquainted with the situation created by the economic crisis and was possibly under the illusion that it was a temporary occurrence soon to pass, artists focused on DIY strategies, using low-cost materials, short-term, spontaneous solutions, ironic attributes of spirituality, commentary and documentation of the situation.
SURVIVAL KIT 2 calls for a critical analysis of the current situation as well as viewing things in a long-term perspective, changing the usual direction of thinking, focusing on sustainable strategies and taking a look into the future.
Nicolas Bourriaud has said that the contemporary artist „instead of a utopian agenda […] seeks only to find provisional solutions in the here and now” – instead of trying to change their environment, artists today are simply „learning to inhabit the world in a better way”. The participants of SURVIVAL KIT 2 will be urged to create functioning „microtopias” for the present time.

All Art Initiatives Call for Entries, Amsterdam
The Métamatic Research Initiative
Deadline: 1 June 2010
The Métamatic Research Initiative is launching a call for entries to commission six individual art works in line with its mission. The initiative welcomes proposals from visual artists working in all disciplines.
The Métamatic Research Initiative’s mission is to stimulate research into ideas stemming from the work and philosophy of the French-Swiss artist Jean Tinguely (1925-1991). Specifically, the research initiative focuses on Tinguely’s exploration of the relationship between the artist, the art work and the viewer as expressed in his Métamatic sculptures. The call for entries is part of a broader effort of the initiative, in which funding will be given to both academic and artistic research activities, ranging from educational projects for young people to the commissioning of individual art works.
The Métamatic Research Initiative
The Swiss born artist Jean Tinguely lived most of his artistic life in Paris, where he was one of the initiators of the Nouveau Réalisme movement in 1960. Tinguely was amongst the leading artists incorporating movement and other time-based elements in his work. By the late 1950s Tinguely embarked on a series of generative apparatus he called Métamatics, based on the idea of machines producing art works. With this series of works Tinguely not only problematised the introduction of the robotic machine as interface in our society, but moreover investigated the role of the artist, as well as that of the art work and the viewer. Out of a fascination with this specific topic within Tinguely’s work the initiative wishes to stimulate research into the ways in which contemporary artists deal with the relation between artist, viewer and art work. This project kicked off on 25-27 October, when the Initiative hosted an expert meeting in Amsterdam where 9 renowned scholars and artists g athered to discuss the topic, and to set parameters for further artistic and academic research.
The aim of this research is two-fold:
- to generate a high-profile collection of ‘art producing objects’,
- to support and stimulate awareness and knowledge on the subject through:
scientific research, exhibitions, and educational programmes on different levels.
Who are we?
The Métamatic Research Initiative is an initiative of the All Art Initiatives Foundation, based in Amsterdam. The foundation is a privately funded non-profit foundation set up to stimulate visual art through the funding of:
- artistic and academic research, – monographs on artists and other publications,
- projects that will increase exposure and make the media available to a wider audience,
- stimulate the incorporation of relevant works in public collections, both in the Netherlands and abroad.

4Culture seeks electronic artworks for e4c, a storefront gallery for electronic art
Visible by foot, bike, car or bus to more than 20,000 people each day, e4c exhibits selected artworks on rotation from 7 am – 10 am, seven days a week.
Up to sixteen media works or media proposals will be selected for presentation through this public, electronic gallery for a period of up to one year. Due to the transitory nature of the audience, works between 1-5 minutes are desired. Media artists working in all genres are encouraged to apply.

e4c is 4Culture’s storefront gallery for electronic art. Four monitors, adjacent to Gallery4Culture, ( http://www.4culture.org/publicart/gallery/index.htm) display selected works on rotation.
e4c was launched in 2008 as a means to offer a highly visible, public venue for the exhibition of dynamic electronic artworks by media artists, as well as projects intrinsic to 4Culture’s work to advance community through arts, heritage, preservation and public art throughout King County.
In its inaugural year, eleven artists and artist teams were selected to present new or adapted work. Artists submit selected work when it is complete and these are added to the display, which is accessible for a full year. Throughout the year, added content will include new artworks created or adapted for e4c as well as media pieces created by and about 4Culture.
Works are displayed in rotation during presentation hours (generally, 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM) each day. In conjunction with Gallery4Culture, e4c launches selected works for display during First Thursday Art Walk, Seattle’s largest art walk.
e4c is located adjacent to Gallery4Culture facing Prefontaine Place South in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood. This street-level, media gallery is visible by foot, bike, car or bus to more than 20,000 people each day. e4c consists of four, LCD monitors and two speakers mounted on the exterior of the building, broadcasting sound to passers-by.

Dans le cadre du programme de résidences-mission d’artistes à des fins d’éducation artistique et culturelle intitulé : Artiste rencontre territoire scolaire (A.R.T.S.) est lancé un appel à candidatures en vue de deux résidences – mission, proposées aux artistes, de tous les domaines d’expression, particulièrement intéressés par les interactions entre image(s) et son(s).
Qu’est ce qu’une résidence-mission ?
Une résidence-mission, relevant du programme A.R.T.S., est toujours organisée à des fins d’éducation artistique et culturelle en faveur d’un public d’enfants, d’adolescents et de jeunes d’âge scolaire. Elle repose sur une pleine disponibilité de l’artiste, durant quatre mois, ainsi que sur une diffusion importante de son oeuvre déjà accomplie et disponible, en lieux dédiés ou non. Cette diffusion s’envisageant en amont, pendant et éventuellement après la période de résidence. La résidence-mission ne se confond nullement avec une résidence de création puisqu’il n’y a ni enjeu de production ni commande d’oeuvre.

La Ville de Levallois et Epson France viennent d’annoncer la troisième édition du Prix Photographique Ville de Levallois-Epson, destiné à soutenir la jeune création photographique contemporaine. Doté de la somme de 10 000 euros, le Prix Photographique de Levallois-Epson récompense chaque année un artiste de moins de 35 ans, sans critère de nationalité, et lui offre également la production d’une exposition dans le cadre du festival Photo-Levallois qui se déroulera du 19 novembre au 18 décembre 2010.

La Biennale de Paris favorise l’idée d’un art qui n’obéit à aucun cadre régulateur tout en étant en phase avec notre contemporanéité, avec ses évolutions politiques, économiques et sociales. Rompant avec la logique de production et de circulation du marché des biens symboliques, la Biennale de Paris défend un art qui interroge et qui opère sans jamais avoir recours à l’objet d’art. Elle refuse le jeu institutionnel qui cache sous des vocables comme «pièce», « installation », ou « intervention artistique » des marchandises perpétuant la production officielle. Interessée par le repérage et la désignation des signes d’art dans le monde social, elle privilégie la non intentionalité pour évacuer l’exposition et la représentation. En actant de la porosité des pratiques avec les champs du réel et les usages qui lui sont associés, elle cherche à identifier les choses de l’art en faisant avancer l’idée de l’art lui-même. En rejetant le rôle de l’artiste elle affirme son refus de participer au jeu des différents mondes de l’art. La Biennale de Paris accompagne le surgissement de l’art là où on s’y attend le moins.

Préavis de Désordre Urbain: Moments of research and experimentation, a day of urban disorder itinerary (artists and places are drawing in lots), a night of performance in Theatre des Bernardines, 4 hours of performances in the city, a performance evening in Friche la Belle de Mai, meetings about disorder in public space with town planners, sociologists, psychiatrists, policemen…
The spirit of the 4th edition: Because of the social and political context, insecurity and fear tend to grow up in cities feeding citizen’s inhibition in public spaces. So performances will propose to the audience unexpected experiences, other ways of living together in urban places.
How far we can go in disrupting public space?
Projects can be radical, out of limits, transgressive, subversive.
Projects can explore different relationships to time.
Participation: Every artist proposes a project of performance that can be declined on the different territories of the festival.
Every artist commits to:
Participate to the laboratory about performance in urban space during 3 days.
Perform twice in urban place and once indoors (Bernardines or Friche la Belle de Mai)
Participate to presentation in artists in bars at apero time.
Propose a workshop to the other artists (optional)

Vos réponses nous aideront à concevoir des services qui répondront au mieux aux besoins et aux intérêts des artistes. Nous vous encourageons à remplir ce questionnaire, et à le transmettre à d’autres artistes professionnels. Tout artiste ayant rempli le questionnaire pourra participer à un tirage et courra la chance de gagner un exemplaire de l’ouvrage Artists’ Contracts: Agreement for Visual and Media Artists, publié par CARFAC Ontario.

Alliance pour les arts visuels
Formée en décembre 2007, suite au Sommet sur les arts visuels, cette Alliance commence à porter fruits. Une première partie du Plan de recherche établi par les membres est en train de se concrétiser : une analyse critique de toute la documentation existante sur les arts visuels (incluant en bonne partie les arts médiatiques et les métiers d’art) au Canada, de même qu’un recensement des principaux documents comparables à l’étranger. Réalisée par Guy Bellavance, sociologue et chercheur à l’INRS, cette analyse permettra d’identifier les lacunes dans la recherche sur notre secteur d’activités, afin de les combler.
D’autres dossiers sont aussi à l’étude : un comité consultatif sur les arts visuels au Canada, un événement pour souligner le 70e anniversaire de la Conférence de Kingston en 1941, une révision des définitions pour notre secteur utilisées par Statistique Canada, une « Journée sur la Colline parlementaire » à l’automne prochain, sans oublier la nécessaire préparation à une éventuelle élection canadienne.
