-Curriculum vitae (maximum 3 pages)

Veuillez envoyer vos soumissions à: programmation (at) studioxx.org

Call for Participation | video project at Burrard Bridge | APR 18

Call for Participation

Josh Hite and Scott Billings are working on a video project in a
hidden stairwell inside of the Burrard Bridge. The stairwell once
allowed people to access Kits Point without having to walk an extra
kilometer to the end of the bridge and back. Public access is
rumored
to have lasted only a few months after the bridge opened on Canada
Day
in 1932. It was a desolate and secluded space, and during the
Depression a few altercations occurred and the light fixtures and
brass railings quickly went missing, prompting its closure.

With support from the Vancouver City Engineers, Canada Council
and
B.C. Arts Council, Vancouver Public Art Program, Vancouver Film
School, and Camera Rentals Vancouver, the stairwell will be partially
opened for the project, which involves the construction of a device to
take a camera up and down the stairwell in a helical fashion, looking
at both the space itself and the ideas circulating around stairwell
images in cinema.

The artists are searching for interested individuals and groups to
sign up to enter into the stairwell and act as extras in our project
from April 18 to 22. You’ll have an opportunity to enter an incredible
space, see a unique camera apparatus, and be a part of our shoot.
To
participate in the project and for more information please send your
name/group to Josh Hite at joshdhite [arobas] gmail [point] com.

Call for submissions  /  The eye’s subconscious via digital pinhole photography

CALL FOR ARTISTS NATIONWIDE WHO USE PHOTOGRAPHY IN THEIR CREATIVE
PROCESS IN CONTEMPORARY ART.

A double challenge :

1- Reveal the invisible using photography

2- Use an old process, the pinhole camera, adapted to modern
technology – an interchangeable lens digital camera.  (All one needs
do is take off the lens and replace it with a piece of blackened
cardboard, or the body cap, with a small hole pierced in it. The
exposure time will do the rest!).

Let a bit of life enter the pinhole image.  When the depth of field is
increased by a long exposure time, the magic can better take place.
Only photography can reveal the subconscious of the eye.  You take a
photo, and then, it is the photo that takes you.  It is by ignoring
the rational for an instant that this added value that Barthes named
punctum may suddenly appear.  We invite in the unpredictable when we
relinquish control.

André Paquin, curator of the exhibition which will be presented at le
Centre d’artistes Voix Visuelle in September 2011.

Deadline: June 1, 2011

Hello Everyone,

In case you haven’t heard about the Awesome Foundation, I wanted to share with you a bit of our vision and urge you to gather some crazy ideas together and apply.

The Awesome Foundation is a network of individuals formed into chapters of 10 trustees and spread out all over the world. Each month we pool $100 of our own money together to give a no strings attached micro-grant of $1000 to a person or a team with the best idea for an innovative project.

Awesome projects are not strictly defined, but tend to challenge and expand our understanding of our individual or communal potentials. They bring communities together, casting aside social inhibitions and boundaries for a moment. They spark an instant of joy and delight and inspire a long-term hope for a more awesome future. Many chapters are city-specific and try to fund projects that are within their local communities, but some will go outside of that if the project is awesome enough!

In Canada there has been a chapter in Ottawa (http://awesomeottawa.ca/) since May of last year, and one has just started in Toronto (http://awesometo.wordpress.com/) with their first grant going toward a grantee who will turn the city into a giant number puzzle (http://bit.ly/fSigpp). There is a Calgary and a Montreal chapter forming now too!

The main site of the Awesome Foundation is here (http://awesomefoundation.org/), where all you need to apply is to describe in 500 words or less the project you want to do. I hope to see some of your awesome ideas!

Cheers,
Emily

The annual EcoArts Festival at Cape Jourimain (N-Brunswick) has changed its dates to August 13th through to August 21st this coming year.

The reasoning is twofold.  First, there were not the numbers attending in late September when the EcoArts Festival has been held
in the past, whereas in August the numbers are much higher with over 1000 people per day passing through the park.  Second,
Cape Jourimain would like to become more closely tied with the Arts as a Nature/Arts centre.

Artists/artisans will be able to display and sell their work during the festival, with no fee for Cape Jourimain.

Artists/ artisans can create, demonstrate and/or give presentations/performances of their work.

Artists/artisans will agree to create (on-site if possible) at least once piece of work to donate to Cape Jourimain
with a charity tax deduction credit.

Cape Jourimain is willing to promote the artists through their own website, links to artists’ websites and other promotional material.

They will provide appropriate space (indoor or outdoor), tables, chairs, and electricity if  requested by the artist.
They will also provide guides, maps and information to visitors about you, your work and your park location during the festival.

This is a win-win situation as the artists will gain a lot of exposure for their work as well as helping Cape Jourimain.

The artists/artisans need to contact me, Donna Sharpe (email:  dsharpe [arobas] mta [point] ca  or by phone at 536-1062) if they are interested.
A commitment to attending for a minimum of two days from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm during the specified days (August 13 – 21)
is necessary by APRIL 1ST.  Cape Jourimain would like to include the artists for their summer promotional material and display
their work on their website, and possibly set up a Facebook page as well.

This could be a lot of fun…..and creative as well…….what could be better!

Creatively yours,

Donna Rawlins Sharpe

Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics
20 Cooper Square, 5th Floor
New York, NY 10003

Call for participation – e-misférica 8.1 – Manifestations

e-misférica invites scholarly essays, artist/activist presentations,
and reviews for its Summer 2011 issue entitled Manifestations. This
issue seeks to explore the practice and poetics of performance art in
Latin America. Under the rubric of “Manifestations” it will examine
the different institutional, aesthetic, and political genealogies of
Latin American performance art, which has been defined as “arte
acción,” “arte no-objetual,” or “body art,” among other terms.  The
verb “to manifest” combines the many connotations of performance as
social practice: to reveal, to materialize, to make known to the
senses, and also—especially in Spanish—to protest and demonstrate.
This volume seeks to illuminate the dynamic “manifestations” of Latin
American performance art, asking how such work articulates the
different registers of aesthetic and political performance. What are
the referential fields—aesthetic, social, political—that performance
art has engaged and created? What different publics has performance
art conjured? How are these publics and these artistic practices
related to the interpellations of institutions (museums, publications,
schools), political projects, or the broader formations of nation and
state? What are the aesthetic geographies suggested by the
circulation, citations, and dialogues between performance art
practices? Is there a “Latin American” performance art, or an
aesthetic or political necessity for one?

e-misférica is the biannual, peer-reviewed, online journal of the
Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics, and is edited by
Jill Lane and Marcial Godoy-Anativia. Each issue is organized around a
theme that explores the relationship between performance and
politics in the Americas. The journal publishes scholarly essays and
multimedia presentations by artists, activists, and intellectuals, as
well as reviews of books, performances, and films.

All essays are peer reviewed, and should be 5000-7000 words. Reviews
are 800 words (up to 1500 for pieces covering more than one book,
performance, or film). Please submit completed essays by May 30, 2011.
To submit multimedia presentations and reviews, please contact the
editors with proposals by April 30, 2011. All final texts will be due
May 30, 2011. Proposals should include a brief description of the work
and the author’s approach to it (150 words); a short author bio (100
words); and a link to a previously published writing sample, or an
unpublished writing sample as an attachment. Please see below for a
list of books open for review; we welcome additional suggestions. All
contributions, proposals, and consultations should be sent to the
editors to hemi [point] ejournal [arobas] nyu [point] edu. Contributions that do not follow the
editorial guidelines of the journal will not be considered for
publication.  Our guidelines and style sheet can be found in our
website: http://hemisphericinstitute.org/hemi/en/participate. Advance
queries are most welcome.

Artist Residency in Alaska at
The Homestead AK

We are situated 100 miles north of Anchorage, Alaska – just south of
Talkeetna, the historic village nestled at the base of Denali (Mt.
McKinely). Our facilities comprise 80 acres of homesteaded land
including a time-honored California ranch style home to accommodate
artists. Work space is ample, spanning a shared studio space, and half a
century of homesteader’s wares and woes.
Our mission is to support creative discovery by providing unique time
and space to practitioners. We encourage the responsible use and reuse
of the abundant collection of materials at hand, promoting an
environment that upholds tradition and advances contemporary art
practices of all kinds. Our residency acts as an open forum for its
participants to converse, collaborate, and build ties with the greater
community.
With nearly 24 hours of daylight, the sun helps us disregard clocks and
allow our internal timepieces to guide us. Each season, the work methods
and practices of our artists are dramatically influenced by the land of
the midnight sun. This experience has also proven to naturally promote
lasting professional and personal relationships between alumni, often
resulting in continued collaboration and development in the public
space.

·         Ce que vous pouvez attendre de nous au cours des 35 prochains jours;

Une analyse des investissements gouvernementaux en culture sous la 40ème Législature;
Une étude comparative des plateformes des divers partis fédéraux reliées aux arts, à la culture et au patrimoine;
Une trousse électorale comprenant des questions que vous pourrez utiliser ou adapter à vos besoins pour établir la position de vos candidats locaux et de leur parti en matière d’art et de politique culturelle;
Des rapports électroniques hebdomadaires qui vous présenteront chaque vendredi une compilation de ce que rapportent les médias sur la campagne électorale et les enjeux culturels. Ces rapports couvriront également les événements culturels reliés à la campagne;
