Appel à projets:
C’est naturel pour un artiste de vouloir marquer l’histoire, d’être reconnu et enregistré pour son travail. En revanche, pour un artiste de participer à l’écriture de l’histoire en général est un objectif différent. La production de la documentation de l’art, et de la documentation comme art, sont des pratiques qui dialoguent et se rapportent au reportage journalistique. Le choix de médium et des méthodes de distribution de la documentation de l’art déterminent sa trajectoire vers le monde et l’avenir. Le rapport entre la documentation et son sujet est plus compliqué que jamais: une installation est diffusée par livestream, l’art en ligne laisse sa trace numérique, les activités quotidiennes sont documentées comme une performance vidéo. Comment est-ce que les méthodes de documentation et distribution de l’art pourraient affecter l’écrit de l’histoire marquée d’aujourd’hui? Comment est-ce que l’histoire d’aujourd’hui sera lue demain?
Nous cherchons des propositions d’artistes utilisant les médiums (mais pas limité à) tel la vidéo, le film, l’art interactif, l’art en ligne, la performance et/ou l’installation. Nous demandons aux artistes de proposer une œuvre à plusieurs niveaux incluant un geste « original », et la documentation de ou par ce geste. Le lieu d’exécution du geste original peut être exécuté hors de l’espace de la galerie (ex: une installation à site spécifique, une performance privée, un endroit géographique éloigné) ; ils doivent toutefois être exécutés durant le temps d’exposition. La documentation de ce geste sera produite par l’artiste et montée dans la galerie avant le terme de l’exposition. Les projets proposés doivent considérer le format de l’exposition. L’usage de la documentation devrait être un aspect central du travail. Pour plus d’information, vous pouvez vous adresser au contact indiqué ci-dessous.
L’exposition est commissionnée par Maggie Flynn pour le programme de mentorat de Le Labo, sous la tutelle d’Alissa Firth-Eagland. Le Labo (www.lelabo.ca) a pour mission de produire et diffuser des projets francophones en arts médiatiques et pratiques interdisciplinaires. Ce projet acceptera des propositions d’artistes francophones et non-francophones. L’exposition se tiendra en avril 2012. Les frais d’artistes et les coûts raisonnables de transport seront payés.

L’IDÉE DE LA PEINTURE

La peinture a plus d’une fois été déclarée morte, mais elle n’a jamais cessé d’être au coeur des démarches artistiques. Le regain d’intérêt qu’elle semble connaître aujourd’hui pousse la revue esse, arts + opinions à vouloir étudier plus avant ce phénomène.

D’emblée il faut préciser qu’il n’est plus possible, après l’épisode moderniste qui a fait connaître à la peinture abstraite un apogée historique, d’aborder la peinture exclusivement en termes de spécificité du médium. C’est pourquoi le présent dossier souhaite considérer des pratiques artistiques qui interrogent la peinture comme dispositif visuel et qui font de son histoire et de ses onventions leur objet. En somme, ce n’est pas la peinture, mais plus généralement l’idée de la peinture qui nous intéresse.

Sentier Art3
APPEL À CANDIDATURES – édition 2013

Contexte et présentation
Sentier Art3 est un projet qui participe d’une volonté d’ancrer et de soutenir l’art sculptural contemporain dans un environnement propice à l’examen d’œuvres en nature. Né de l’implication d’une artiste envers sa communauté, Suzanne FerlandL (commissaire de l’événement), ce projet s’est donc efforcée d’établir, depuis 2007, des relations avec sa région, des liens avec le milieu artistique (Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides, Centre d’artistes Praxis art actuel) et le Parc régional Bois de Belle-Rivière de Mirabel pour développer progressivement, un sentier d’art sculptural en pleine nature.

Présentation du territoire de Mirabel, Basses-Laurentides (Québec)

Située au pied des Laurentides et à la lisière nord de la Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal,  la ville de Mirabel s’étend sur un territoire de 477 km2, ce qui en fait un des plus grands territoires municipaux du Québec. Parsemée de grandes étendues et de boisés, Mirabel est devenue avec les années et la diversification de ses activités, une ville en pleine croissance sur le plan industriel, commercial, résidentiel et agroalimentaire.
Le Parc régional et éducatif Bois de Belle-Rivière
Le Parc régional et éducatif Bois de Belle-Rivière, situé dans le secteur de Sainte-Scholastique, fait partie du territoire à caractère plus rural de Mirabel. Au cours des dernières années, il est devenu un site enchanteur de 176 hectares ayant pour mission de sauvegarder le patrimoine naturel du massif, d’encourager sa protection, sa conservation et d’éduquer le grand public sur l’importance de préserver ce lieu. Il offre aux visiteurs (70 000 visiteurs/an) un ensemble d’infrastructures et de multiples activités de loisirs favorisant l’appréciation de la nature tout au long de l’année.

C’est en ce lieu que s’intègre Sentier Art3 avec comme objectif de :
•    créer un lieu d’intérêt touristique d’envergure nationale où l’art et la nature
viennent     à la rencontre des gens;
•    accueillir des artistes sur une base thématique privilégiant un art en symbiose avec la nature;
•    favoriser les interactions entre les artistes et le public;
•    confirmer l’apport des artistes à la qualité de vie de la région de Mirabel;
•    doter la région d’un patrimoine artistique collectif avec des œuvres publiques

Description du projet
Ce projet d’art en nature : Sentier Art3, se veut un événement international d’art environnemental qui consiste à inviter de trois à cinq artistes provenant du Québec, du Canada et de l’étranger à venir créer, en collaboration avec des citoyens bénévoles, des œuvres in situ, habilitées à demeurer en permanence dans le sentier du Bois de Belle-Rivière. Ce rendez-vous annuel offre aux artistes une plate-forme d’expérimentation et de création qui, dans un lieu aménageant un sentier piétonnier naturel, incite à redéfinir la place de la sculpture contemporaine dans un nouvel environnement public tout comme il a pour vocation d’interpeller et de porter un regard différent sur ce site singulier. De même, l’intégration des œuvres à l’environnement pour une durée illimitée, permet de constater les changements que les œuvres subissent au gré des saisons et d’analyser l’impact de la culture sur la nature (la transformation du lieu d’accueil par l’œuvre elle-même) et, inversement, de la nature sur la culture (la nature reprenant le dessus sur l’œuvre).
Le choix d’explorer l’art environnemental, réunissant en son centre un ensemble de propositions artistiques (bio-art, éco-art, etc.), s’explique en ce qu’il permet d’établir directement un dialogue avec l’environnement et de faciliter grandement le contact avec les œuvres. Accessibles et conçues pour un site spécifique, les œuvres, utilisant parfois des matériaux du lieu et/ou parfois des matériaux importés (non naturels) concourent à la création d’installations in situ qui réorientent nos habitudes perceptuelles par des jeux de modification de l’environnement ambiant.
De même, le projet Sentier Art3, ayant la volonté d’inscrire l’art contemporain dans un milieu rural, encourage fortement les échanges entre les artistes et la communauté locale. Des citoyens bénévoles sont invités à assister les artistes dans la réalisation de leur œuvre in situ, tout comme la communauté environnante accueille et héberge les artistes en résidence familiale.
L’événement constitue ainsi une expérience totale façonnant un sentiment d’appartenance au territoire et une fierté collective dans la collection de ces œuvres, dotant la région d’un patrimoine artistique unique à ciel ouvert.

Conditions générales
Tous les projets de réalisation d’une œuvre in situ sont évalués sur la base de conditions de production correspondant à la nature même du projet Sentier Art3, c’est-à-dire la faisabilité (respectant le cadre nature du lieu) d’une part et d’autre part, la pertinence de la démarche artistique, développant une œuvre d’intégration en dialogue avec l’environnement.

Modalités de participation
Les artistes s’engagent à:
•    produire une œuvre in situ sur le site attribué par l’organisation du sentier artistique du Parc régional Bois de Belle-Rivière;
•    Utiliser des matériaux plus ou moins durables qui respectent l’environnement protégé du parc et qui résistent aux intempéries et  aux conditions climatiques extrêmes (vent, chaleur, neige…);
•    créer une œuvre inédite qui se transforme dans le temps/ évolutive/participative et d’une durée de vie minimale de dix ans;
•    réaliser une œuvre sécuritaire qui ne présente aucun danger pour les visiteurs (risque de chute, de coupure…);
•    fournir les modalités techniques et logistiques de la réalisation de l’œuvre;
•    respecter le budget de 1 500$ de matériaux administré par l’organisation;
•    travailler avec l’aide de citoyens bénévoles, laisser son œuvre sur place et accepter sa dégradation progressive dans le temps;
•    laisser l’œuvre sur place et accepter sa dégradation progressive dans le temps;
•    être disponible et présent sur place durant les 10 jours de l’événement;
•    être hébergé en milieu familial;
•    assister au vernissage et présenter brièvement le concept de l’œuvre;
•    autoriser l’utilisation de l’image de son œuvre pour fin de communication publique;
•    céder son droit sur les photos prises de son œuvre installée sur le sentier artistique.

Sentier Art3 prend entièrement en charge les artistes invités

L’organisation s’engage  à:
•    trouver des lieux d’hébergement;
•    assumer les coûts des repas. Toutefois, l’éventuel accompagnateur de l’artiste s’acquittera  en totalité de ses dépenses;
•    assurer les déplacements quotidiens jusqu’au site de l’événement aux artistes provenant de l’extérieur du Québec;
•    rembourser les frais de déplacement de l’artiste. Pour le trajet routier,  une compensation sur la base de 0.35$ du kilomètre du domicile à Mirabel,  un seul aller-retour, sera défrayée. Pour les trajets aériens (une personne) les frais du tarif économique seront remboursés;
•    fournir aux artistes invités des photos de sites pouvant potentiellement accueillir une œuvre in situ;
•    aider et supporter l’artiste dans ses recherches de matériaux;
•    Fournir un ou des bénévoles pour aider l’artiste;
•    remettre à l’artiste à titre d’indemnisation une bourse de 2 500$ CA;
•    remettre une copie de l’agrandissement photo de son œuvre et un DVD des photos;
•    remettre à l’artiste des droits de reproduction si les photos sont utilisées dans le cadre d’une publication. Un montant forfaitaire de 20$ CA par photo s’appliquera.

Le Prix Karsh 2012

La Ville d’Ottawa accepte maintenant les candidatures pour le Prix Karsh 2012. Le prix de 7 500 $ honore les frères Yousuf et Malak Karsh et est décerné tous les deux ans à un artiste professionnel qui s’est démarqué grâce à une œuvre exceptionnelle réalisée principalement au moyen de techniques photographiques.

La date limite de soumission des candidatures est fixée au 19 mars 2012

Appel à projet Praxis Art Actuel
Programmation Bloc 7 – 2013

Praxis Art Actuel est un centre d’artistes qui propose un contexte particulier et original de laboratoires-résidences qui met l’accent sur la recherche et l’expérimentation en art actuel. La programmation du centre est principalement composée de Blocs de trois artistes qui expérimentent sur une période d’environ 5 mois. Ces derniers sont jumelés à des «accompagnateurs» afin de stimuler la discussion autour de l’élaboration et de la réalisation de leurs projets de création. Tout le long de ce processus, des rencontres de travail sont prévues entre les participants, un auteur invité et l’équipe de Praxis. L’objectif de ces rencontres est de créer et de soutenir des espaces de réflexion, d’échanges et de collaborations afin d’aborder sous un angle différent la réalisation du projets de chaque artiste.

Le centre lance son appel de dossiers pour la programmation du Bloc 7, qui se tiendra au printemps et à l’été 2013. Nous invitons les artistes professionnels à proposer des projets innovants qui s’éloignent du cadre habituel d’exposition, s’infiltrent dans l’espace public et s’inspirent des caractéristiques du lieu dans lequel ils se retrouvent afin de le questionner, de l’interpréter, de le modeler et de le transformer. Les projets peuvent toucher à la fois à des particularités et des caractéristiques géographiques, sociales, économiques ou culturelles de la Ville de Sainte-Thérèse ou de la région des Laurentides. Les artistes sont ainsi invités à redéfinir des problématiques liées à leur démarche artistique ou approfondir certaines facettes de leur pratique. Praxis Art Actuel offre un espace de réflexion, des circuits d’échange et de collaboration afin de soutenir des processus de création axés sur le travail in situ ou in socius, en lien avec des groupes (individus, étudiants, travailleurs, commerçants), des organismes, des espaces, des lieux ou des territoires considérés dans leur spécificité.

Les projets issus de ce laboratoire-résidence devront être présentés sous une forme ou une autre dans le cadre d’un événement spécial réunissant le travail des trois artistes et le public. La formule de cette présentation sera déterminée par les artistes en accord avec chacun des projets (par exemple: parcours, finissage, événement, exposition, etc.) à l’approche de la fin du Bloc. De plus, chaque artiste participant à un Bloc profite d’un essai sur leur travail publié dans un ouvrage de référence (publication).

Call for Nominations for 10th Anniversary of Sobey Art Award
January 19, 2012 – HALIFAX, NS – The Sobey Art Award is officially accepting nominations for the 10th anniversary of Canada’s premier visual art award. The $50,000 award is given annually to a Canadian artist age 40 or under who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated.
The five finalists of the 2012 Award will be announced in June, 2012. Selected work from the shortlisted artists will be featured in Toronto in an exhibition hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA) from October to December, 2012. The winner of the 2012 Sobey Art Award will be announced during a gala event at MOCCA in Toronto in November, 2012.

“The call for nominations is open to Canadian artists 40 and under. We welcome this opportunity to survey the Canadian art landscape and see the wealth of work being produced therein. BACKGROUND
The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is responsible for accepting nominations for the 2012 Sobey Art Award, from recognized agents and institutions. A panel of curatorial advisors, consisting of a representative from a noted gallery in each of five regions (Atlantic, Québec, Ontario, Prairies /North, and West Coast/Yukon), develops the shortlist for the Award. The curatorial panel creates a list of five artists from each region; these are selected from the list of nominated artists, and based on their professional knowledge of their regions and of the national art scene. The curatorial panel then meets and chooses one representative from each region to be included on the national shortlist. The panel will choose the winner in November 2012.
In 2002, the Sobey Art Foundation created the largest art award for a Canadian artist age 40 or under. Since its inception the Sobey Art Award and accompanying exhibition have been organized and administered by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Sobey Art Award.

Sobey, of collecting and preserving representative examples of 19th and 20th century Canadian art. Call for Artist Submissions: Hamilton’s Supercrawl

Supercrawl is pleased to announce an opportunity for artists to be showcased as part of the 2012 festival which takes place from September 14th to 15th. Supercrawl is an annual event that celebrates the unique mix of arts organizations, cultures, businesses and creative people along James Street North in Hamilton. Last year Supercrawl attracted 50,000 attendees. In 2012, it is expected to draw over 70,000 people to the area.

Supercrawl’s Curatorial Committee invites artists working in a wide range of media to propose works for display in exterior places during the event. Work selected by the Curatorial Committee will be shown within the street closure from King Street to Murray Street along James Street North. The Committee is interested in all media including:
1) Outdoor installation art / sculpture
2) Video (projection-based, no sound)
3) Site-specific
4) Performance art
5) Public interventions
6) Murals
7) New media
8) Dance
Please note that a priority will be placed on that which can be seen, performed, or executed outside and that video content will be shown after sunset on outdoor screens.

Call for Proposals: Visualeyez 2012

The Thirteenth annual Visualeyez festival of performance art happens from 10–16 September 2012 in the downtown core of Edmonton, Alberta, exploring on the curatorial theme of loneliness.
Visualeyez takes place over a period of seven days and it is required that all invited artists are able to attend for the entire length of the festival. Artists experience the work of other artists; engage in discussion groups, meals and other activities that enhance the work of individual artists and the performance art community within Canada and beyond. It is important that prior to submitting that artist is available for a minimum of six days during the festival. Please visit visualeyez.org for the past festival information.
Curator and Founder of Visualeyez, Todd Janes states, “Visualeyez 2012 builds upon notions of an ever-expanding and more urban city. This theme will explore issues such as emotional versus social isolation, chronic and transient states of loneliness within the city and our inter-relationships with crowds, emptiness and intimacy. I want to present artists that will explore the theme of loneliness and enhance dialogues regarding the societal issues, community connectivity and understanding of the concept and its impact on individuals and society as a whole.”

Walking in Place: Field Trips in Pictou County
W(here) Festival June 26-30 2012

As part of the W(here) Festival, community members and local artists are encouraged to submit an idea for a field trip or performative walk in Pictou County.
Field trips may take place anywhere and be between 1 and 2 hours. Through walking and talking, this project seeks to discover new stories about “place” in Pictou County and share local knowledge in an artistic way.
Lead us to a special place, start a conversation or tell us a site-specific story. Is there something to do when we arrive? What makes this place special? Delve into history or make your own.
Field trips can be informal or staged. All forms of presentation are encouraged from historical research and tour, to on-location performance and site-specific sculpture. Artists, poets, storytellers, historians, filmmakers, environmentalists and star-gazers are all welcome to submit their idea for consideration by February 21st. Three walks will be selected and an honorarium of $250 paid to field trip hosts.
Through visiting local sites and listening to local stories, the goal of Walking in Place is to encourage new ways of thinking about “here”.

Your proposal should include:
– 1 page description (where you will take us? what will we talk about? what will we see?)
– 100 word biography (who are you, what do you do or make?, CV encouraged but not necessary)
– images, video, audio (Images and other media can add rich content to your proposal)

Some ideas:
– lead us through the night and tell us about the night sky
– read a poem you have written in the place it was inspired
– play us a piece of music on location
– take us on a boat tour, a picnic, a hike and tell us a tale
– lead us in a drawing class or another workshop in an interesting place

In June 2012 the W(here) Festival* begins and ends on its feet, exploring ideas of place, art, and community. Taking place in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, local and visiting artists will lead audiences in a series of “field trips” engaging participants in an interactive way. In addition, the festival will feature an exciting evening of local artist talks, a special roundtable discussion about place-based art, and a public video drive-in downtown.

Trinity Square Video’s Themed Commissions
Call for Submission: CENTRE

Deadline: March 5, 2012

Trinity Square Video announces a call for submissions to CENTRE, the third and final act of the TSV Commission trilogy, LEFT, RIGHT, CENTER. This commission asks artists to use lens-based material from the Archives of Ontario (134 Ian Macdonald Boulevard) as subject or reference for the production of a 10-minute video or video-based installation* that examines contemporary politics.

Continuing TSV’s celebration of its 40th anniversary as a centre for the production of art, we are looking for three successful proposals to CENTRE. Although selected artists’ projects will be developed through five months of research, development, and production with the Archives and TSV, the initial proposal should display a strong understanding of kind of material that will be used for the final project. Applicants will need to explore the Archives online collection databases and exhibitions: www.archives.gov.on.ca

In mid-February, TSV will host an in-house presentation by the Archives of Ontario. Open to all, this general introduction to the Archives is an excellent opportunity for artists to gain an understanding of what this incredible resource can offer them. For CENTRE, we are seeking proposals for the creation of work that investigates “centre” in various ways: the median or the moderate; a fixed point where things pivot; the idea of the institution–centres like the Archives or TSV–as public resources; the privileging of the eye, the power of its vision, and the social or historical weight of its perspective; a nucleus or a beginning.

This is a commission for the production of video art. TSV is seeking submissions that propose to explore pertinent issues related, but not limited, to representation, identity, geography and space, economics, justice, divisions of labour and power, science, history, and philosophy. These works can be critical, humorously self-effacing, discursively political, or experimental in their analysis and construction.

Proposed artworks can employ video through a variety of strategies, including narrative or documentary form, formalist or materialist practices, animation or compositing, non-lens-based video production and motion graphics, and through video installation*.

Selected artists receive:
- $750 in production equipment rentals;
- 40 hours of editing time;
- 2 TSV workshops;
- Support from TSV’s technical and artistic Staff;
- TSV membership or renewal;
- $500 honorarium;
- A public screening/exhibition (October 2012–expected);
- Inclusion in the LEFT, RIGHT, CENTER catalogue (published at the completion of the trilogy)

While each project is created separately, the artists participate in group-critiques of works-in-progress, where they can receive peer-support and feedback.

Submissions will be reviewed by the TSV Programming Committee who will make selections based on the proposed project’s exploration of the theme, CENTRE, as well as its intended examination, experimentation and expansion of video as an art medium.

All Toronto-based emerging, mid-career and established visual artists, video artists, media artists, and filmmakers are welcome to submit proposals to CENTRE. Proposals from those living outside Toronto and surrounding area must ensure that the artist will attend all CENTRE related activities at their own expense.

*Video installations can be proposed as part of CENTRE, although artists are also required to create single-channel versions appropriate for the public screening. Selected artists working in single-channel video or video installation will receive the same resources from TSV, as outlined above.

Wanted: Live Art for Children!

ANTI is an international contemporary arts festival presenting site-specific works made for public space. Over the past 10 years ANTI has presented live, sonic, visual and text-based art from today’s most exciting and innovative artists. A truly international festival and Finland’s foremost presenter of Live Art, ANTI is a meeting place for artists and audiences fascinated by how art shapes the spaces of everyday life.

We are looking for innovative and exciting live art works for children. ANTI has a long history of presenting ground breaking projects for children and this year our annual call out is focused on finding something truly inspiring. We especially invite proposals from contemporary performance makers who have not made. work for children before but would like to produce something for a young audience. In previous years companies and artists like Gwendoline Robin, Lone Twin and Mammalian Diving Reflex have presented outstanding work for children at ANTI. That’s the tradition we want to continue: great work made by great contemporary artists for children.

Your project can take any form – it may be participatory and children do something with you, or it might be something a young audience encounters by surprise, or anything in between. Your project may last 30 minutes or seven days. It may be for an audience of one, or hundreds and projects should be targeted at specific age groups – from new-borns to teenagers.

ANTI is a site-specific festival – we do not show work in traditional art spaces, neither do we show touring street theatre: all our projects have a direct relationship with the spaces and places they are shown in. When proposing a project please make it very clear where your project would ideally be located, and why. The proposal process

The form allows a link to be made to any online documentation artist’s may have of previous work and for artists to attach their CV and three images of their work. Any proposals that do not conform to these guidelines will not be considered.

Animées par la volonté de réduire les inégalités en matière d’accès à l’art et à la culture et d’augmenter ainsi, de manière significative, le nombre d’enfants et de jeunes en âge scolaire concernés, les villes de Lille – Lomme – Hellemmes, dans le département du Nord, ont souhaité, dans le cadre de la poursuite de leur projet éducatif global (PEG) et plus particulièrement de son volet culturel ainsi que dans l’esprit du contrat local d’éducation artistique (CLEA) qui s’y intégrait, réaliser une résidence mission d’artiste, en partenariat étroit avec la direction régionale des affaires culturelles du Nord – Pas-de-Calais (DRAC) , le rectorat de l’ académie de Lille ( DAAC), et l’ inspection académique du Nord ( IA 59) . Cette action se mène également en lien avec le conseil général du Nord et le conseil régional du Nord – Pas-de-Calais.
Labellisée en 2004 ville d’art et d’histoire, la ville de Lille et les communes associées de Lomme et Hellemmes développent ces partenariats au sein du service ville d’art et d’histoire de la direction du patrimoine culturel qui conduit de nombreuses actions éducatives en direction du jeune public en temps scolaire et hors scolaire sur l’ensemble du territoire. Les projets de sensibilisation à l’architecture et au patrimoine sont établis en prenant la ville comme objet d’étude et en favorisant l’enrichissement des connaissances au contact de spécialistes et d’artistes.

In 2012 Serial Space is introducing a brand new platform for the development and presentation of interdisciplinary and experimental art practices: Time Machine. Time Machine will be a festival of experimental, time-based art taking place at alternative spaces across Sydney during 16-29 July.
In the lead-up to this festival, Serial Space will offer a number of commissions and development residencies for the creation of new work to be presented in the festival. These works may fit within one of the four streams of Time Machine, or they may stand alone. Serial Space is seeking bold, ambitious, experimental and exciting ideas to support and present as part of Time Machine.
The program will include 4 major streams*:
SOUND & VISION – a series of events and exhibitions presenting new experimental music, sound art, audiovisual performance, video art, installation and interactive work.
PERFORMANCE – a platform for durational and experimental performance art. As part of the performance stream, Serial Space will curate a performance relay showcasing back-to-back, site-specific performance works.
LAB – a space for ongoing experimentation, where art, technology and science come together. Including workshops, presentations, prototyping, knitting circles, tests, and demonstrations.
TALK – a program of debates, performance lectures, critical forums and artist presentations. We welcome formal experimentation of the presentation and dissemination of information.
* Hold on! Serial Space is also interested in work that doesn’t fit into the 4 streams. We encourage applications that challenge our bureaucratic programming delineations.

OPEN CALL FOR VIDEO ART PROJECTS
SPECULATION AND SPECTACLE

Curators Elisabeth Murray and Jonathan Brantley, in collaboration with from Rogue Video and Performance seek video art to be projected out-of-doors in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. This event will take place in the area beneath the  Brooklyn-Queens Expressway,  between Meeker and Union Avenues on May 3rd from 7:30pm until 9:30pm.

The exhibition, “Speculation and Spectacle” will address the theme of gentrification.  Submissions should respond to the following idea:

Gentrification can be defined as the displacement/replacement of lower-by-higherincome households, or expanded to address the wholesale transformation and transition of a city into a place of speculation and spectacle. As gentrification drives real estate prices to unprecedented levels, the inhabitants of these once overlooked and undesirable areas, both residential and mercantile, are removed and dislocated in favor of a new socio-economic class of people and business. The curators are interested in a public discourse on the matter of gentrification as a multi-faceted issue that can hold many different meanings depending on the stakeholder.

Gentrification has the ability to create a chaotic and conjectural environment; it also can create a renaissance of creativity, imagination, and lend to a burgeoning local economy in communities. How is gentrification an emotional experience? Is there an underlying tension, and if so, how is this tension manifested and expressed?

Gentrification can also call into question the idea of home. Is “home” just a place in which we lived over a period of time, or does it become engrained into how we identify ourselves? Are there traditions, places, and established cultures that we are trying to salvage? If gentrification transforms these places, can they no longer be called our home?

Submission Guidelines:
Only video submissions will be accepted
Limit of 5 submissions per artist
Submissions must be accompanied by an artist statement and c.v.
Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
Digital files are to be named in the following way: artistname_titleofwork.filetype (example: smith_art.mov or smith_statement.doc)
Applicants are encouraged to contact the curators with questions prior to submitting.

Video Specifications:
Artists must submit their videos in DVD, .mpeg, .avi or .mov formats with an aspect ratio of 4:3. Videos cannot exceed 5 minutes in duration. Videos will be shown on a single-channel, continuous loop projected onto urban structures underneath the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Screenings shall take place between 7:30pm and 9:30pm. Email or links to websites will not be considered or acknowledged under any circumstances.

The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam (est. 1870) aims to develop top talent in the international visual art world and promotes the position of art and artists in today’s society. 

By offering artistic, theoretical and technical support the Rijksakademie creates an environment in which about 50 emerging professional artists from all over the world can, for a maximum of two years, work on deepening, broadening and accelerating their profession—individually and socially. 

In addition to facilities like a studio and a work budget, the residents can request feedback and support from internationally acclaimed artists and theorists, who are connected to the Rijksakademie as advisors. In professionally equipped workshops technicians collaborate with the artists in finding solutions to create their work. The presence of different media makes inter-disciplinary projects possible. Furthermore, the Rijksakademie hosts (historical) art collections, an extensive library and artists’ documentation. 

Rijksakademie alumni include Carlos Amorales, Yael Bartana, David Claerbout, Ryan Gander, Runa Islam, Nathaniel Mellors, Michael Raedecker and Marijke van Warmerdam.

Application 
Each year, out of more than 2000 applicants, some 25 artists are invited for a residency. Artists can apply for the residency January–December 2013 by using the online application form. 

A residency at the Rijksakademie has the most impact on an artists’ career with three to five years of professional experience before applying.

Présentation
 
La Ceiba Gráfica fait partie d’une association civile qui se consacre à la promotion de la création artistique. Fondée en 2005, son siège est une ancienne hacienda de Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexique.
 
La Ceiba Gráfica est caractérisée par le développement d’un modèle dédié à la production graphique, de longue tradition mexicaine, où la créativité est dirigée non seulement au travail artistique, mais aussi vers l’adéquation des espaces de travail, à la fabrication des équipements et des matériels que nous employons et à la recherche de production alternative conviviale pour l’environnement. 
 
Les trois techniques dans lesquelles nous nous spécialisons sont la lithographie, le Moku Hanga (gravure sur bois japonaise) et la gravure sur métal. Dans nos ateliers en lithographie et Moku Hanga, nous travaillons presque à cent pour cent avec un équipement conçu et fabriqué par nous mêmes à partir de matériaux locaux et qui mettent à profit les métiers pratiqués localement.
 
Notre but est de partager notre expérience. Nous sommes particulièrement intéressés par l’accueil de groupes étudiants appartenant au domaine du design et des arts, et désireux de partager les valeurs éco-environnementales que nous avons mis en place avec les générations en formation.
Les grands espaces de l’ancienne hacienda permettent de consacrer le rez-de-chaussée aux ateliers et l’étage aux résidences, ce qui favorise ainsi la concentration du processus créatif. La richesse culturelle reflétée dans la nourriture, la musique et les coutumes de la région est un autre élément qui enrichit le séjour.
 
Le programme offre des options pour les artistes professionnels, les individus en formation ou les groupes étudiants dans les domaines liés à l’art.

The ARTErra 
is a rural art residency structure that support and encourage artistic creation and production.
Housed in a remarkably small rural village, you will find in ARTErra physical spaces and tools for the reception of the project / proposal of the artist or collective of different artistic disciplines.
In addition to a house with several recreational areas and facilities, the ARTErra has a “creation yard” area where are the work spaces (sound studio and booth capturing, studio room, black & white box, glass room and atelier) framed by a garden, a small vegetable garden, an orchard and poultry.

With privileged contacts with some institutions and companies try to enhance and ensure a artist in residency to respond the needs and expectations of the projects accepted.

Since 2005, the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) has established a vibrant residency program that has hosted over 150 artists and their collaborators, spanning theater, dance, music, video, and installation. We are pleased to announce the new deadlines for 2012 artist-in-residence open call program on May 14, and September 17, and new application guidelines and application form.

We encourage applications for a wide range of projects from a diversity of artists, composers, directors, choreographers, and performers from international artists of different cultural and geographical backgrounds.

We are open to proposals for all phases of a project, from initial concept to full production.

In addition to our ongoing residency open call, we also have additional special initiatives:

Creative Research: Provides artists, writers, and theorists with the opportunity to conduct research over extended periods of time (minimum six weeks).

Audio Production / Post-Production: For sound recording, development of multichannel sound works, documentation, mastering, mixing, film scoring, or any other task involving microphones, speakers, consoles and computers.

Video Production / Post-Production: For multiple camera shoots, documentation of a performance, development of multichannel video projection, digital video post-production, or any project involving HD video cameras, computers, and projectors.

** Please note that residency proposals do not need to fall into one of these special initiatives.

Our unique facilities offer four major venues including a concert hall, theater, and two black box studios, in addition to artist-in-residence studios, and a state of the art infrastructure.
