Scotiabank Nuit Blanche now accepting submissions for 2012

Preparation for Toronto’s next all night contemporary art event is well underway. As in previous years, the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche program will include a mix of City-produced Exhibition and Open Call projects, as well as Independent Projects that will transform city streets on Saturday, September 29, 2012.
Information Session

There are two different ways artists and venues can participate in next year’s event:  either as part of an Open Call Project or an Independent Project.  Those interested in submitting an application are encouraged to attend an information session hosted by the City of Toronto. It is an opportunity to, ask questions, share ideas and meet event organizers and other artists. The information session will take place Monday, November 21 at City Hall, 100 Queen Street West, 2nd floor in Committee Room 2 starting at 7 pm.

Applications are now being accepted for Open Call projects.
The City-produced exhibition includes Open Call projects, smaller scale works produced specifically for the event. They are selected by a curator in consultation with the City of Toronto to work within the theme of the curatorial vision. Funding and production support is provided. Open Call submission deadline: December 19, 2011. View complete details here http://www.toronto.ca/special_events/nuitblanche/participate.htm

Independent Projects call for submissions.
Each year’s event also features close to 100 independent projects consisting of self-funded installations created by galleries, schools, neighbourhoods, community organizations or individual artists. Selected projects are chosen by the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche Artistic Advisory Committee. The Independent Project submission process and criteria will be announced early in December. The Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area (CAFKA) is an artist-run organization that produces an international biennial exhibition of contemporary art projects in the public spaces of the Waterloo Region. Through the exhibition, lectures, tours and related special events, CAFKA develops opportunities to learn about contemporary art and participate in its making – creating memorable experiences and contributing to the creation of an engaging, animated and stimulating urban environment.
CAFKA wants to hear what artists are thinking about and what drives their practice. The theme of the Spring 2013 biennial exhibition will therefore be determined by the topics and content identified within the proposals. Further, CAFKA seeks artists who are able to respond to the specific features of the local urban landscape and culture as sites of critique and reflection from a global perspective.
CAFKA is inviting proposals for new or existing works that engage the public and a diverse audience.  Works in all media will be considered including sculpture, performance, video, audio, installation, photography, painting, drawing, and digital media.
Artist Fees paid for Visual and Media Art Projects: $2,000 CAD, plus travel expenses. Wherever possible CAFKA will work with artists to source the donation of materials to help offset production costs.  Video and one-time performance fees are paid in accordance with CARFAC (Canadian Artists’ Representation/le Front des Artistes Canadiens).
For more information and submission guidelines, please visit www.cafka.org/submissions

All applications must be received by midnight on December 30, 2011. Selected artists will be notified within three months of the application deadline.

Started by Angeles Cossio and Jeff Thompson in the summer of 2010, Drift Station acts as a non-traditional curatorial platform for innovative exhibitions, art, music, and performance based in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. Working within limited geographic and financial means, we are rethinking how art can be transmitted not transported.  We are interested in exhibitions that allow artistic projects from around the world to be seen in locations that might not otherwise have access.

Artist in Residence Program 2012 (The New Gallery)
The New Gallery (TNG) Artist in Residence (AiR) Program 2012
Call for Submissions
Deadline: Nov 15, 2011
weblink: http://www.thenewgallery.org/air

Guidelines/Eligibility:

The New Gallery is now accepting residency proposals from individual artists and collectives in all disciplines, for research and development of new or ongoing bodies of work. Proposals that are collaborative and/or multi-disciplinary in nature are strongly encouraged. In the spirit of esteemed Calgary artist John Snow, who was involved in a broad range of artistic activities, TNG seeks proposals which indicate new directions for the applicant(s), including the investigation of new media.

Previously home to the University of Calgary’s Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Writers Program, the John Snow House (JSH) has already hosted distinguished writers-in-residence Timothy Findlay and Michael Ondaatje, amongst others – and artists/curators who require time to write, research and retreat are also encouraged to apply.

JSH is municipally zoned to permit public events and applicants may consider this in their proposal, including suggestions for workshops, presentations, screenings or other creative on-site programming. However applicants should also bear in mind that the house is a designated historic resource in a quiet, residential neighborhood.

Fees:

TNG Artists in Residence are not charged fees nor paid a stipend. All travel, material and living costs are the sole responsibility of the selected participant(s). Travel grants may be available from the Canada Council for the Arts and/or provincial or territorial arts granting bodies. The New Gallery will assume all costs associated with use of the house as a living space while the AiR is present.

Applicants are asked to take the limited financial resources of TNG into account, but also consider the wide-ranging possibilities of this unique urban residential setting. JSH exists as a staffed archive and resource centre as well, so proposals that address the collection are encouraged; selected artists may also be eligible for special access to the archives and research guidance, at the discretion of the JSH Director. The JSH Director is also responsible for yard work and general maintenance of the house, but is not a housekeeper.

Selection Process:

As with all of TNG’s programming, the Artist in Residence will be selected by our peer Programming Jury. In the interest of both democratizing and administratively streamlining the submission review process, TNG Programming Selection Committee ONLY accepts proposals submitted online via the dedicated portal at: https://tng.slideroom.com/

Please be aware that a Slideroom account will cost you $5 payable with a credit card online. Please be advised that Slideroom does not accept hotmail email addresses. An outline of information required from applicants can be found here: http://www.thenewgallery.org/submit

TNG does not require letters of reference, although with permission from the applicant, we may contact organizations with which the applicant has had shows, residencies or other affiliations.

Deadline is November 15, 2011. Applicants will be contacted by mid-December 2011. The residency will take place in August 2012, for either part or all of the month. Please include a brief timeline with your proposal and indicate how long you wish to be in residence.

Facilities:

The historic John Snow House (JSH) is located at 915 -18 Avenue SW, in the residential community of Lower Mount Royal – offering easy access to the downtown core, public transit, grocery stores, restaurants, medical services, banks and all other amenities. Originally built in 1912 and renovated in 1959-61 (with a studio addition by Maxwell Bates) and again in the 2000’s, the house is a fully functional residence which includes a fenced back yard (with a small garden and composting area) and patio, front porch, two upstairs bedrooms (one with ensuite bathroom), a spacious living room, a full kitchen, and laundry room. WiFi access is also available. As the AiR, you will share the main floor of the house with the JSH Director. The washroom on the main floor is also a shared space. The small studio space addition at the back of the house may be available as shared workspace if appropriate, at the discretion of the JSH Director, whose office is situated there. The studio space is not suited to working with power tools, nor extremely messy or large productions.
JSH is a lovely example of working class housing, originally intended for Canadian Pacific Rail employees in the late 19th/early 20th centuries. TNG also has an agreement with a local bike rental organization, so the AiR has free access to bike transportation if desired. Additional information about John Snow and the JSH can be found here: http://www.thenewgallery.org/jsh

Appel à projet

La cité des curiosités 2011/2012

Contexte
