Bien implanté dans sa région et sur la scène nationale, Caravansérail
assiste la relève artistique depuis plus de 5 ans, tant dans la
production et la promotion que dans la diffusion des arts visuels au
Québec. L’intérêt que nous manifestons envers les artistes
professionnels de la relève nous rend sensibles à l’émergence
d’œuvres novatrices, au développement de stratégies de diffusion
inédites et à la résurgence de réflexions en adéquation avec notre
époque.
Dans le cadre de sa programmation 2011-2012, le Centre d’artistes
Caravansérail invite les artistes de la relève en arts visuels et les
commissaires qui amorcent leur carrière à soumettre leur dossier pour
un projet d’exposition ou tout autre projet spécifique (performance,
projet hors les murs, etc.) pouvant s’inscrire dans le cadre de ses
activités.
Votre dossier doit être non relié, sans agrafe et de format 8 ½ x 11.
Chacune des pages doit être identifiée à votre nom
Votre dossier doit comprendre, dans l’ordre :
l’identification de l’appel de dossiers;
vos coordonnées complètes (adresses postale et électronique);
une description du projet (maximum de 300 mots);
une démarche artistique;
un curriculum vitæ;
une liste descriptive des œuvres;
une enveloppe préaffranchie si vous souhaitez le retour de votre
dossier;
un dossier visuel comprenant dix à quinze images d’œuvres récentes
(fichiers jpeg, RVB d’environ 1024 x 768 pixels à 72 ppi. Le CD ou

Le Centre d’artistes Caravansérail invite les artistes à soumettre leur
dossier pour la réalisation d’un projet en atelier-résidence. Les locaux
de Caravansérail contiennent un atelier individuel de création de 330
pi2. Cette résidence vise à offrir aux artistes émergents un cadre de
travail stimulant, mais aussi du temps, de l’espace et des moyens pour
se consacrer à leur recherche artistique.
Équipements et services :
La disponibilité d’un atelier d’une superficie de 330 pi2;
Un accès au fonds collectif de matériel (outils de base);
Un cachet de production de 1000 $;
Un montant pour l’achat de matériaux (max. de 500 $ sur présentation
de factures);
Contribution du centre au coût d’hébergement;
Un soutien et un accompagnement individualisés.

Dans le cadre de la cinquième édition de l’événement qui aura lieu à l’hiver 2012, le
centre d’artistes Caravansérail invite tout spécialement pour l’occasion les artistes
en arts visuels et médiatiques originaires ou habitants le Bas-Saint-Laurent
ou la Gaspésie à soumettre leur dossier pour un projet extérieur ou intérieur
pouvant s’inscrire dans le cadre de cet événement. Ce faisant, le centre soulignera
l’importance d’un réseau culturel actif et impliqué en donnant place aux créateurs de
la région. Veuillez noter que cet appel s’adresse exceptionnellement tant aux
artistes de la relève qu’aux artistes établis.

THÈME : LA RÉSISTANCE
L’espace blanc est une zone de paix.
C’est un lieu de neige, de froid et de tempête; mais aussi un espace de résistance
face aux éléments. Cette résistance peut prendre différentes tangentes et aborder
des aspects tant géographiques, sociaux que conceptuels. Phénomène ou action, la
résistance peut apparaître dans le propos, le médium, la mise en espace ou encore
dans la relation entre ces différents éléments qui composent la proposition artistique.
Ce thème, abordé par la création d’oeuvres d’art, peut se présenter comme un acte
de rupture, de mouvement, de contestation ou de changement. L’artiste peut résister
au quotidien, résister par la rupture que l’oeuvre propose, le faire par opposition au
déjà-vu, en créant un bris dans la continuité. La résistance est une forme
d’engagement.
Aborder la ville de Rimouski, espace urbain en bordure du fleuve, sous l’angle d’un
lieu occupé par des artistes et des œuvres qui résistent, permettra non seulement à
ces créateurs mais également aux visiteurs et aux habitants de recontextualiser
l’endroit où ils se trouvent par la manifestation de leur présence et la prise de
possession de cet espace commun.

PRATIQUES ARTISTIQUES ET CONTEXTES DE PRÉSENTATION
Cette fois encore, Caravansérail désire que soit investi l’embouchure de la rivière
Rimouski ainsi que le centre-ville par l’intégration de sculptures, d’installations et
d’art éphémère. Le centre d’artistes sera sensible aux projets qui interpellent la
population en les faisant complices ou participants. Le comité sera ouvert à des
intérêts variés en faisant éclater les pratiques artistiques et en intégrant certains
créateurs entre autres issus des arts médiatiques, performatifs et en communauté.
Pour la cinquième édition, quatre contextes de présentation s’offrent à vous :
Espace village de pêche blanche
Le projet est conçu en fonction d’être présenté sur la glace ou en périphérie, à
l’embouchure de la rivière Rimouski. Vous devez envisager l’absence potentielle de
banquise. Veuillez tenir compte des recommandations extérieures dans l’élaboration
et la description de votre projet.
Espace urbain extérieur
Le projet est conçu en fonction d’une présentation extérieure au centre-ville de
Rimouski. Veuillez tenir compte des recommandations extérieures dans l’élaboration
et la description de votre projet.
Espace urbain intérieur
Le projet est conçu en fonction d’être présenté dans un commerce, une vitrine ou un
lieu public du centre-ville. Des précisions concernant l’espace et l’équipement
nécessaire seront à ajouter à votre projet.
Espace prestation ou intervention
Le projet est conçu en fonction d’être présenté sous forme de présentation
ponctuelle, de prestation ou d’intervention dans un ou des sites extérieurs ou
intérieurs. Des précisions seront à ajouter à votre projet concernant les lieux, le
temps, les équipements nécessaires, etc.
Recommandations extérieures
À la lumière des éditions antérieures d’Espace blanc, vous devez tenir compte de
recommandations particulières si vous choisissez les contextes de présentation
suivants :
~ Espace village de pêche blanche
~ Espace urbain extérieur
Recommandations :
La température extérieure peut être instable et varier entre 0 degré Celsius et -35
degrés Celsius.
Des vents doux à violents sont constants sur la banquise et même au centre-ville. Il
faut donc prévoir un bon ancrage et des types de matériaux en conséquence.
Des intempéries sont à prévoir tel que qu’une accumulation importante de neige
même sur la banquise, de la pluie, du grésil ou un beau mélange de toutes ces
précipitations.
Les œuvres extérieures sont sujettes au vandalisme. Il faut donc prévoir leur
conception en conséquence afin de minimiser les risques.
Si vous avez besoin d’alimentation électrique pour une œuvre extérieure, vous devrez
situer l’œuvre au centre-ville en partenariat avec un commerce qui fournira l’entrée
électrique. Vous devez également vous assurer que les équipements seront à l’abri
des vols.
S’il y a un redoux important, il est possible que les œuvres installées sur la banquise
doivent être redirigées en périphérie. Il faut donc prévoir que toute œuvre dédiée au
village de pêche blanche doit être construite sur patins au même titre que les
cabanes de pêcheurs. Quant aux œuvres éphémères, elles répondront aux désirs de
dame nature.
Aucun système d’alimentation électrique et/ou à carburant et/ou batterie ne sera
toléré sur la banquise.
L’eau qui se trouve sous la banquise est un mélange d’eau douce et d’eau salée. Il est
donc difficile d’utiliser cette eau pour faire de la glace. Aucune eau douce n’est
disponible à proximité.
Votre dossier doit comprendre, dans l’ordre :
~ Le formulaire ci-joint imprimé, dûment complété et joint à votre envoi postal;
~ L’identification de l’appel de dossiers (Espace blanc 5 ~ Caravansérail);
~ Vos coordonnées complètes (numéro de téléphone, adresses postale et
électronique);
~ L’identification du contexte de présentation;
~ Une description du projet d’un maximum de 350 mots;
~ Un devis technique du projet comprenant la description du matériel et des
ressources nécessaires;
~ Une démarche artistique;
~ Un curriculum vitæ;
~ Une enveloppe pré affranchie si vous souhaitez le retour de votre dossier;
~ Un dossier visuel comprenant dix à quinze images d’œuvres récentes (fichiers jpeg,
RVB d’environ 1024 x 768 pixels à 72 ppi. Le CD ou DVD doit être lisible sur MAC).
S’il y a lieu, un document vidéographique de 5 minutes maximum compressé en Divx
ou Mpeg4;
~ Une liste descriptive des œuvres de votre dossier visuel.
Finalement, votre dossier doit être non relié, sans agrafe et de format 8 ½ x 11.

Dans le cadre de sa programmation 2011-2012, la Galerie Circulaire invite les
artistes et les commissaires à soumettre un dossier pour un projet d’exposition. Le
projet d’exposition doit intégrer les arts imprimés sur le plan technique et/ou
conceptuel.
Fondé en 1982, l’Atelier Circulaire se consacre à la production et à la diffusion de
l’estampe. Aujourd’hui, l’Atelier Circulaire représente l’un des centres d’estampe les
plus actifs au Canada et compte près de 100 artistes membres. Orienté vers la
recherche et la création en arts imprimés, l’Atelier Circulaire est équipé pour la
taille-douce, la lithographie, l’impression en relief et l’impression numérique.
Depuis janvier 2008, la galerie occupe un espace au rez-de-chaussée permettant
une plus grande visibilité et accessibilité au public.
Les candidats intéressés doivent soumettre un dossier comprenant :
– une description du projet (maximum 1 page);

Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF)
Making a great one-minute film, that’s TUFF!
Just 3 weeks left to submit a film to TUFF, the film festival for commuters!
The Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF), the only festival of its kind in North America, is a 10-day long public film festival that reaches over 1.3 million subway commuters daily.
TUFF is looking for the best one-minute silent films from across Canada and around the world.
The festival runs from September 10 – 19, 2010, at the same time as TIFF. Films are presented on the Onestop Network of 270 subway platform screens inside the TTC, and featured on the new TUFF website.
Films are selected by a guest jury, with top awards selected by guest judge Deepa Mehta. The TUFF 2010 Jury: Chris Gehman, Min Sook Lee, Jorge Lozano, Kathleen Mullen, Sarah Robayo Sheridan, Haema Sivanesan, and Michael Zryd.

Produced by Buddies in Bad Times Theatre for over 30 years, the Rhubarb Festival has offered artists a critic-free
environment to experiment with new explorations in performance. Rhubarb continuously reconsiders the possibilities
for performance – how we create it, how we present it and how we experience it. It is an invitation for artists to take
risks, investigate new directions and challenge conventions. It is an opportunity for adventurous audiences to journey
off predictable paths. Rhubarb provides artists with a rare opportunity to present work to a large and enthusiastic
audience. Many Rhubarb shows have gone on to be further developed and presented in Toronto, across Canada and
internationally.
GENERAL CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
DEADLINE: 5PM, Tuesday August 17, 2010
Rhubarb seeks proposals for new, not previously produced performances (30 minutes or less) for the 32nd Annual
Rhubarb Festival. Submissions are encouraged from both established and emerging artists working in the areas of
contemporary theatre, performance art, dance, music, interdisciplinary and hybrid forms. Of particular interest are
projects, approaches and ideas that are new territory for the artist and the medium.
Selected projects will be featured during the festival (Feb. 16-27, 2011) and will receive technical, production,
administrative, promotional and artistic support. Invited companies will have the opportunity to access free rehearsal
space leading up to Rhubarb. In addition to an honorarium, festival artists also receive an unlimited artist pass,
allowing them to see work for free by local, national and international artists over the course of two weeks.

TWO SPECIAL PROJECT CALLS: SET IT OFF
DEADLINE: 5PM, Monday August 30, 2010
Building on the culture of club nights at Buddies, Rhubarb invites DJs and musicians who venture into new and
experimental territory of music performance (especially those working in live mixing and sampling) to submit
proposals. This may include DJs/ electronic artists collaborating with animators, new media artists, choreographers,
etc. to create a short set. Other possibilities include musicians working with non-traditional equipment and instruments
(i.e. kitchen appliances, video game consoles, found objects, bicycle powered amps, etc.). Of special interest are
proposals that not only suggest experimentation with the instruments themselves, but also consider aspects of the
music in relation to staging, conceptual meaning, story and/ or form.
MOBILE WORKS
DEADLINE: 5PM, Monday August 30, 2010
Taking the Rhubarb experience outside the walls of Buddies, the festival invites proposals for works that begin
elsewhere and converge at Buddies (12 Alexander Street, Toronto). Performance interventions, performances on the
subway, flash mobs, etc. that eventually end at Buddies are encouraged. Participatory projects and online
performances that are developed in the lead up to Rhubarb and culminate in another form of presentation at Buddies
are also welcome. The proposal should take into consideration not only the festival audiences but also the general
public, unsuspecting and accidental audiences who may stumble upon or intersect with the work.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Only submissions delivered by or post-marked by the deadline dates will be accepted. Works submitted must be new
and original. Submissions must be submitted in hard copy only and must be accompanied by the 2011 Rhubarb
Festival Application Form (available online at www.buddiesinbadtimes.com) and the $20 non-refundable reading fee
(payable to: Buddies in Bad Times Theatre). Fax or email submissions will not be accepted and late submissions will
not be considered.

Call to Artists for Expression of Interest
Permanent Public Art Works- Regent Park Phase Two, Central Park
Led by Toronto Community Housing, the Regent Park Revitalization is a six phase, 15 year, $1 billion strategy that will transform Canada’s largest publicly funded community into a healthier mixed residential community that serves as a world leading model for sustainability and community integration.
As part of Phase Two, state of the art facilities for residents, community groups and neighbours, including an aquatic centre and large central park are featured in the design.
Toronto Cultural Services is therefore seeking to commission artworks to be created as part of this development to be completed for fall 2011.
Given the rich social and cultural history and diversity of Regent Park, the artistic opportunities presented will address themes reflected and inspired by the past and present realities of the community.
Artists interested in responding to the Expression of Interest (EOI) must be prepared to consider the challenge and importance of working closely with the Regent Park community and its creative interests. This may take the form of on site community workshops involving organizations such as ArtHeart and Focus Youth Media Arts, to inform the development of artistic content.
This open call for artists will focus on exterior art possibilities of the Central Park site, located between Dundas Street East and Oak Street, bound by Sackville Street to the west and Sumach Street to the east.
Working in co-operation with landscape architects The Planning Partnership, the art budget is $200,000 which includes all fabrication, installation costs and fees.
Integration of the public art within the custom design of a functional piece and within the engineering/landscape design elements also provide resources beyond the core budget.

City of Craft (in partnership with the Ontario Craft Council) is
seeking submissions for a group exhibition that will take place at
the Ontario Craft Council Gallery as a part of City of Craftâs 2010
off-site programming. City of Craft is Torontoâs largest
independent craft sale and weekend-long event featuring craft-
based installations, free workshops, and craft-related
programming.
This year’s exhibition will explore the broad relationship craft and
crafting has with commerce. Craft(ing) is currently a multi-billion
dollar industry. From mainstream craft media personalities and
the DIY Network to hipster how-to guides, mega craft fairs and
fabric designers du jour, the commercial nature of the
contemporary crafting movement often seems to starkly
contrast the idea of crafting for necessity from days gone by. On
the other hand, there are people who turn to craft and craft
processes for a sense of transcendence and autonomy. Many
would argue that there is more of a need to craft for crafts sake
now than ever– either to re-skill ourselves for an uncertain future,
or simply to learn to slow down.
Are money and craft strange (or natural) bedfellows? How does
craft transcend issues of commerce? How do you navigate or
perceive the dichotomy of craft for love/craft for money? Work
that addresses any facet of the above ideas is welcomed as a
submission. Submissions of fine craft, indie craft and art are
encouraged.

ArtEvict: call for performers
ArtEvict is looking for the next wave of body/time based artists (emphasis on liveness) to platform their work at our next event.
ArtEvict is a monthly live art event that takes place in derelict buildings and squats around London, UK. Since its conception in November 2009 ArtEvict has established itself as an open yet critical platform for practicing and emergent artists to present new work with an emphasis on liveness. Collaborators present their work to both artistic peers and the public for critique, discussion, re-evaluation and enjoyment.
ArtEvict is testament that alternative and multidisciplinary artistic endeavor can and does thrive even (or especially) without institutional resource(s).

L’Art Proxime appelle à réagir contre l’unicité du point de vue, désire provoquer des questions sur ce qui peut, désormais, se dire art. Proxime car il s’impose pour vivre au-delà des besoins biologiques… Un tel hapax, proxime – puisqu’il ne s’agit pas de proximité au sens de territoire restreint – implique que l’art se fait dans la rencontre entre celui qui fait et celui qui reçoit, celui ou ce qui est fait ou se fait devant lui.
Rencontres d’art expérimental, Traverse Vidéo accepte films et vidéos – à envoyer sur support DVD pour la sélection* – installations et performances avec cahier des charges précis, ainsi que photographies plasticiennes, ouvres numériques… seront appréciées les notes d’intention. GENERAL INFO
The Simultan Festival is an annual festival for video, media art,
experimental music and a/v projects.
The festival wishes to sustain and to stimulate the creative ways of the
most modern visions of perceiving and recording the cultural realities in
contemporary art. It presents the current processes and the way in which
technology and society give rise to new forms of artistic expression by
using the new media.
Based on a different theme every year, the festival presents video art
projections, music live performances, interdisciplinary works,
installations, lectures.
This year’s edition runs under the theme ‘Past Continuous. Future Perfect.’
and will take place between 30sept – 2oct. 2010, in Timisoara, Romania.
TERMS OF ENTRY
Simultan is open for submissions of innovative works, which use technology
in a creative, ingenious way or are based on a peculiar, unusual story.

– experimental video
– motion graphics and generative video based on sound and image
manipulations
Those interested may apply with a maximum number of 2 works; with a maximum
duration of 5 minutes.
