HB #8 – ÉCRITURES

En préparation de son 8e numéro sous la thématique Écritures visant à mettre en lumière les manières plurielles dont l’écriture s’incarne dans les pratiques contemporaines du dessin, HB invite les artistes à lui faire parvenir un dossier.
Sur papier, le matériau textuel est souvent tiraillé entre l’expressivité du geste qui le fait apparaître et sa visée communicationnelle, entre la rigueur du langage et la sensualité de la matière qui lui donne forme. « No thought exists without a sustaining support » déclarait l’artiste conceptuel Mel Bochner1, où le « support » représente le langage comme système de signes partagés et intelligibles, mais aussi la matérialité de la feuille qui lui permet de faire œuvre. Ainsi, l’écriture se donne comme un double langage, discursif et pictural, où l’une ou l’autre de ces qualités peut avoir préséance. Si l’écriture, dans sa dimension conceptuelle, rend compte de la pensée, de la parole et du discours, son caractère graphique permet les jeux formels, le détournement, la transformation, voire la création de nouveaux codes et de nouveaux langages. S’invente alors un univers mitoyen où l’écriture comme art du trait peut devenir universelle, sans frontières ou barrières culturelles. Que le texte donné tel quel fasse l’objet de la représentation, ou qu’il s’inscrive dans une composition, une scène, une narration, ce huitième opus de la revue HB cherche à le mettre de l’avant, et à jeter un regard sur l’éventail des possibles que l’écriture apporte à la pratique du dessin.

À propos d’HB
Éditions HB est un organisme à but non lucratif engagé à diffuser et à promouvoir, aux échelles locale, nationale et internationale, toutes les formes de pratiques en dessin actuel, principalement par le biais de publications, mais également par la production et la diffusion d’événements et d’activités. Principale activité de l’organisme, la revue HB est une plateforme de diffusion mobile, flexible et accessible à un large public. Élaborée par des commissaires et publiée deux fois l’an, HB délaisse le verbe pour s’appuyer sur la force des images et laisser toute la place aux œuvres. Suite de séquences visuelles, la revue structure au détour de chaque page un espace de réflexion et d’exploration autour de la pratique du dessin.

APPEL AUX ARTISTES
TREIZIÈME EXPOSITION INTERNATIONALE D’ESTAMPE NUMÉRIQUE MINIATURE
Nous invitons tous les artistes professionnels à participer à la TREIZIÈME EXPOSITION INTERNATIONALE D’ESTAMPE NUMÉRIQUE MINIATURE, qui se tiendra à Ottawa (Canada) du 9 novembre au 11 décembre 2018.
On demande aux artistes de soumettre leurs estampes numériques de 25 cm par 20 cm (jusqu’à deux par artiste) au plus tard le 15 août 2018.
L’édition 2018 de l’exposition porte le thème SPAME TEMPOREL. Le texte expliquant le thème se retrouve sur le site web cité ci-dessous. L’artiste doit remplir le formulaire et rédiger un court texte faisant le lien entre l’œuvre présentée et le thème de l’exposition.
Le commissaire, Henriette Ethier, fera la sélection des œuvres pour l’exposition et un jury composé de trois artistes réputés décernera trois prix en argent et des mentions d’honneur.
La participation à l’exposition est gratuite pour tous. L’exposition se tiendra au Centre d’artistes Voix Visuelle.

OPTICA présente annuellement un programme varié d’expositions, de conférences et de rencontres avec les artistes et s’investit dans la production de commissariats d’expositions en relation avec les thématiques développées par le centre. L’ensemble de ces programmes propose une réflexion critique sur l’actualité de l’art, soutenue par une activité éditoriale.
Le centre comporte deux espaces d’exposition et offre une aide technique professionnelle en galerie. Les artistes et les commissaires sont invités à déposer des projets pour la programmation régulière en galerie. La nature des projets est soumise au comité de programmation qui recommande leur réalisation.
OPTICA verse des droits d’exposition aux artistes et aux commissaires selon les barèmes recommandés par le RAAV et CARFAC.

BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Artisan Series, in partnership with ARTSY, is now searching for the best new emerging artist in North America. In its third year, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE is inviting all Canadian visual artists over the age of 25 to submit their best art work online for a chance to win three trips to Miami, show their work at SCOPE MIAMI BEACH and a $10,000 USD stipend for an Artsy curated exhibition in New York City in 2019.
BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Artisan Series stirs creativity in all and celebrates artists by connecting them to the world’s top art curators, collectors and galleries through the partnership with Artsy.
How it works:
Submissions Period: Open until July 11, 2018 all Canadian artists over the age of 25 can submit multiple pieces of visual art. Each photo of work will represent one entry. BOMBAY SAPPHIRE will accept any format of visual art, with the exception of film and video.
Judging Period: An Artsy jury will review all entires submitted based on the following criteria i) line; (ii) composition; (iii) creativity and originality; (iv) execution of the technique and level of difficulty of the process; and (v) originality of the work. Winners will be notified via email and will win a gallery event in either Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal. The events will be held between August 2018 and October 2018 where one winner will receive a trip to Miami to participate in SCOPE MIAMI BEACH.
Miami Art Week: Three Canadian artists will be selected to exhibit the winning work at SCOPE MIAMI BEACH and participate in the Artsy Grand Finale party. The judging committee will evaluate all the works presented during the event based on the evaluation criteria and will select one grand prize winner and one second place winner. In addition, participants will have the chance to select the winner of the audience award through a vote.

CALL | Emerging Digital Artists Award | Call for Applications
Applications will be accepted until June 15, 2018.
The Emerging Digital Artists Award (EDAA) is now accepting applications to its 2018 program. The award is designed to foster experimentation in the work of early career artists and create opportunities for those working in digital media.
This year, the program welcomes Scott Benesiinaabandan, Tobias Williams, and Yifat Shaik as its invited judges, who will review artists applications with EQ Banks Lindsay LeBlanc and Trinity Square Videos Emily Fitzpatrick. The judges evaluate submissions under four key categories: relevance or relationship to the digital, technique, aesthetics, and a written statement.
Applications will be accepted until June 15, 2018. Once five finalists are selected, their works will be exhibited at Trinity Square Video this fall, with the announcement of the winner in early October. The winner receives $5,000, a membership to Trinity Square Video, and a reserved space in the artist-run centres Themed Commission program.

New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme Off The Beat(en) Track for consideration in New Adventures in Sound Art’s 2019 programming.
A year ago, NAISA staff and its board of directors decided to move the organization from Toronto to the Village of South River, ON – very much Off the Beaten Track.
For its 2019 programming, NAISA is interested in submissions that address the ideas related to the theme Off The Beat(en) Track and creative ways that this can be shared.
Preference in programming will be given to works that respond in some way to the theme Off The Beat(en) Track. Individual interpretations or variations on the theme are encouraged, but should be realized with sound as the primary component. NAISA would also like to encourage artists to submit works on the theme for performance, interactive installation exhibit, audio-visual screening, radio or internet broadcast, telematics, VR/gaming, mobile experiences and any other emerging or alternative formats that include sound as a primary element. Please complete in full the online submission form and upload your audio by midnight on June 4, 2018. Note: there is a $5 submission fee in order to defray the cost of processing the submissions. AKA supports the creation and development of artist driven initiatives and emerging practices that speak to, reflect and encourage dialogue in our culturally diverse communities. This includes work in all media by local, national and international artists. Our venues consist of a street-level gallery, billboard and multi-use screening and performance event space; we also source off-site locations for site-specific projects.
AKA accepts submissions on an ongoing basis for project/exhibition proposals that consider AKA’s history and setting.
Support for selected projects/exhibitions includes: curatorial assistance, shipping, insurance, installation/strike assistance, promotion, documentation and the potential development of accompanying programming suited to the form of the project. AKA pays artist fees at or (when possible) above the CARFAC national average.

Hamilton Artists Inc. is seeking dynamic proposals from artists, collectives and curators at various stages of their careers and from across disciplines for its exhibition platforms, which include the Cannon Gallery; James Gallery; Cannon Project Wall; and ArcelorMittal Dofasco Courtyard. The Inc. is mandated to exhibit a range of disciplines and career levels and to exhibit a cross-section of artists from local, regional and national communities. New in 2018, pending funding, we would also like to encourage the submission of “special projects.” Special Projects may include, but are not limited to, independent projects diverse in nature that may happen at the gallery or off-site and might manifest themselves through happenings, print materials, digital platforms, screenings, workshops or other forms of public presentation or intervention. The Inc. also hosts a rotating artist in residence program in partnership with the Cotton Factory and Photophobia, a film festival dedicated to contemporary moving images in partnership with the art Gallery of Hamilton.
Selections criteria are informed by the Inc.’s mandated objectives. As an artist-run centre, the Inc. is interested in works/projects that have potential impact, push boundaries and engage with critical, conceptual and/or experimental contexts from a diverse range of perspectives and voices. The Inc. supports and encourages submissions showcasing artists and curators most recent endeavors as well as works that incite conversation and promote a range of intersectional narratives. Photophobia Contemporary Moving Image Festival

Photophobia is the 12th annual festival of short-format contemporary media, film, video and moving image hosted in partnership between the Art Gallery of Hamilton and Hamilton Artists Inc. Established in 1999, Photophobia was Hamilton’s first film and video festival dedicated to the development of experimental time-based media at a time when there were no such platforms in the Hamilton community. Not confined by restrictions or themes, Photophobia is a free festival series presented under the cover of night in the Irving Zucker Sculpture Garden at the Art Gallery of Hamilton and the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Courtyard at Hamilton Artists Inc. in August.

Exhibition proposals are accepted throughout the year and reviews are ongoing. Selection is carried out over a period of time through studio visits and correspondence with artists and curators in whom the gallery has an interest. The Southern Alberta Art Gallery pays CARFAC fees, shipping and insurance, and often seeks funding to produce catalogues for the exhibition. All publications, including our quarterly newsletter GALLERY (which discusses and reproduces work by exhibiting artists along with other programming), are exchanged with other institutions in Canada and abroad.

Videonale.17 – Festival for Video and Time-Based Arts invites artists from around the world to submit their work on the theme Refracted Realities for the competition of the festival, which will take place in Bonn, Germany from February 21 to April 14, 2019. Around 35 works selected by an international jury will be presented in an exhibition at Kunstmuseum Bonn as individual presentations. The City of Richmond Department of Arts, Culture and Heritage invites professional, community-engaged artists in all disciplines (including writers, composers, visual artists, musicians, theatre artists, video, multi-disciplinary, social practice and performance artists) to submit proposals for an 11-month live-in residency located on Canadas west coast, in Richmond, B.C.
The fourth annual Branscombe House residency will run from mid-January to mid-December, 2019.
Branscombe House is a beautifully restored Edwardian style house located in the
residential area of historic Steveston in Richmond. The self-contained two-bedroom artists suite upstairs is offered as an artist residence/studio with rent 100% subsidized in exchange for ~ 22 hours/month (240 hours total) of hands-on
community engagement.
The City will also provide in-kind marketing support, as well as facility/production support associated with public programs (including access to free use of cultural and performance spaces; basic workshop materials, print production, tech support, etc.) as negotiated and provide up to $1500 in materials reimbursement.
We are seeking proposals for interesting new projects and programs that promote meaningful community engagement through artistic opportunities. Atelier Topaz – résidence Opasatika, Ontario, Canada
Le lieu
Situés au cœur de la forêt boréale, les Ateliers Topaz sont à la fois un lieu de retraite et un centre de création pour artistes, toutes disciplines confondues. L’endroit parfait pour la réflexion, l’évasion. Le groupement d’édifices fait 900 mètres carrés et repose sur 14 hectares face à la route Transcanadienne. Il donne sur un étang de deux hectares. Topaz c’est la « Route 66 » dans le nord de l’Ontario. L’endroit, modeste et nostalgique, rappelle aussi les grandes épopées de la colonisation francophone de l’Ontario. Ces studios de création ou cette résidence d’artistes, endroit idéal pour les arts visuels, sont situés au centre du Canada, à mi-chemin entre l’Atlantique et le Pacifique, là où les étoiles deviennent les topazes de la nuit.
Ce qu’on offre
D’abord l’espace et, l’espace de travail déterminés selon les besoins de l’artiste. Les espaces polyvalents permettent d’y faire de la peinture, de la sculpture, de l’installation, etc. L’atelier de menuiserie, le Bar à clou, est équipé des outils de base. Un magasin d’objets trouvés est disponible autant pour l’inspiration que pour l’utilisation dans une œuvre. Le peintre apporte ses pinceaux, le musicien son instrument et l’écrivain son ordi.
Les personnes qui séjournent aux Ateliers Topaz jouissent de l’accès à la cuisine et sont responsables de préparer leurs repas. Toutefois Laurent peut aussi leur cuisiner de petits plats typiquement canadiens-français aux besoins ou aux désirs. Topaz possède deux suites avec lit double et une chambre avec lit simple. Chacune possède sa salle de toilette avec douche. Ces installations évoquent admirablement le style des années 1960. Pour la baignade, le Lac des Cœurs se situe à deux kilomètres à l’est. Pour le canotage ou la pèche, la rivière Opasatika est deux kilomètres à l’ouest. Pour se déplacer, il y a de vieux vélos ou la marche. Pour un frais très raisonnable, votre hôte peut aussi vous conduire ou organiser un déplacement vers Kapuskasing à l’est ou vers Hearst à l’ouest. Les matériaux d’artistes ne sont pas disponibles dans la région. Il est donc important de faire vos achats avant votre séjour, à moins que vous travailliez avec des matériaux que l’on peut se procurer dans des magasins ordinaires ou même en nature.

The City of Kelowna, through its Public Art Program, announces the commissioning of a site-specific artwork to be located within a public plaza and forecourt space of the newly constructed Kelowna Police Services Building (KPSB). The artist is to be selected through a two stage process, as determined by the City’s public art selection committee.
The KPSB serves as the home for the local Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment, as well as City of Kelowna staff that are responsible for city wide policing services and community outreach programs. A key design component of the new building is a public plaza / forecourt space that serves as the building’s main entrance. The artwork will be highly visible from the street, as well as from inside the building’s main reception area, and will serve as the main feature element within this pedestrianized space.
It is the collaboration between the City of Kelowna and the RCMP that makes for a unique opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of the Kelowna Police Services in creating a safe, healthy and vibrant community. No theme or material for the artwork has been determined and it can be either abstract or figurative. As part of an expression of interest artists are encouraged to explore their own ideas and thoughts in the form of a written brief.
A maximum budget of $120,000 CAD has been allocated for the commissioning of the artwork. This sum is inclusive of all Artists’ fees, technical consulting, insurance requirements, fabrication, installation, documentation, travel expenses and all other related costs. This call is the first of a two stage selection process. The call-out submission does not require the preparation of a proposal. Those artists interested are invited to submit their expression of interest to the City of Kelowna prior to the deadline closure 4pm PT. June 28, 2018.

Gallery 44 is a dynamic space and a leading artist-run centre led by a dedicated group of artists, curators and educators. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team. The Curator of Exhibitions and Public Programs works on behalf of the board, staff and members of Gallery 44, in consultation with the Exhibition Programming Committee, to develop and administer Gallery 44’s exhibitions and public programs. The main responsibilities of this position are to oversee two exhibition spaces (the Main Gallery and Vitrines), and coordinate the publishing program, which includes exhibition catalogues. The Curator also coordinates all other exhibition-related programs, as well as auxiliary public programs, which may take a variety of forms such as performance lectures, artist talks, dinner parties, reading groups, and screenings.
Major Responsibilities Include:
Programs: In consultation with the Exhibition Programming Committee and the Director, the Curator develops and implements all exhibitions-related programming as well as auxiliary public programs, including, but not limited to, artist talks, panel discussions, tours and accompanying publications. The Curator of Exhibitions and Public Programs coordinates with guest curators and writers, and they themselves curate and/or write about exhibitions. Additionally, this position oversees the artist-in-residence and writer-in-residence programs, with support of the Director and gallery staff.
Promotion: Assists in the promotion of exhibitions and public programs, contributing to marketing plans, producing press materials, overseeing the production of promotional materials and updating the website.
Administration: Coordinates calls, submissions, and submission reviews, assists with grant-writing by preparing information specific to exhibition programs, liaises with artists, prepares contracts and the exhibitions and publications budget, coordinates shipping and oversees exhibition installation. The Curator of Exhibitions and Public Programs also trains interns to assist with administrative tasks.
General Office: Assists in day-to-day office duties such as answering telephone and walk-in inquiries, talking to student groups, reviewing budgets associated with exhibition programming, assisting with mailings, attending staff meetings, and other general office tasks as needed.

Depuis quelques années, le Centre CLARK présente des soirées de projections vidéos en invitant des commissaires ou en créant des partenariats. C’est dans cette lignée, que CLARK, en collaboration avec le Projet Tiohtià:ke de l’Aboriginal Curatorial Collective/Collectif des Commissaires Autochtones (ACC-CCA), souhaite initier un nouveau cycle de présentation d’œuvres vidéographiques. Pour ce faire, nous invitons les commissaires et artistes autochtones (Premières Nations, Métis ou Inuit) de n’importe quelle région du territoire que l’on nomme Canada à déposer un projet. La personne sélectionnée pourra travailler à partir du thème de son choix pour une présentation d’œuvres vidéographiques (expérimental, courts métrages, documentaires) d’artistes autochtones du Québec ou d’ailleurs. CLARK et le CCA encouragent la personne sélectionnée à accompagner la projection d’une discussion, mais celle-ci, ainsi que toute autre forme d’activité parallèle à la projection (performance, etc.), demeure à la discrétion du commissaire, en discussion avec les partenaires du projet.
Le Collectif des Commissaires Autochtones et le Projet Tiohtià:ke
Le CCA-ACC est un organisme de services nationaux dans le domaine des arts autochtones qui appuie, promeut et représente publiquement les commissaires, les artistes et les professionnels des arts au Canada depuis plus de 11 ans. Le projet Tiohtià:ke est un ambitieux cycle de deux ans de programmation organisé par l’ACC-CCA qui réunit des commissaires, des artistes et des écrivains autochtones à travers le Québec et le Canada et qui permet d’établir de nouveaux réseaux et relations par l’entremise de stratégies telles la formation d’une délégation de commissaires, des expositions, des résidences in situ et des événements. Tiohtià:ke, est le nom Kanien’kéha pour la ville de Montréal qui se traduit par: “Où les nations se divisent”. L’histoire orale nous dit que cet endroit est un site ancien pour créer, maintenir et célébrer les relations de nation à nation par le biais de cérémonies et de protocoles.
Le Centre CLARK
Le Centre d’art et de diffusion CLARK est un centre d’artistes autogéré voué à la diffusion et à la production de l’art actuel situé à Montréal. Aiguillé par un mandat appelant l’équilibre entre la production, la diffusion, le rayonnement, ainsi que la diversité culturelle, l’échange intergénérationnel, l’équité des sexes, des genres, des médiums et des états de carrière des artistes qu’il soutient, qu’il présente ou qu’il aide techniquement, le Centre se veut à l’affût des pratiques les plus novatrices, voire de la prise de risque chez les artistes qu’il diffuse dans sa programmation.
Candidature
La personne choisie recevra un cachet de commissariat de 750$, ainsi qu’une enveloppe budgétaire pour les cachets de diffusion et activité(s) parallèle(s). La personne choisie sera responsable de cette enveloppe en collaboration avec l’équipe du centre. CLARK s’occupera des communications et de la promotion du projet, et offrira une aide au montage; l’ACC-CCA fournira au/à la commissaire un mentorat, du soutien et des ressources.

– une courte description du projet (environ 300 mots);
– Un curriculum vitae précisant la formation et les expériences professionnelles, et un texte de démarche (environ 300 mots)

The University Gallery at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is a non-collecting academic museum. Its exhibition program prioritizes curatorial, scholarly, and artistic experimentation, supporting publications and projects of local relevance and international significance. The program connects research and knowledge production, the region and NYUAD’s academic community.
The NYUAD Art Gallery seeks a curator to play a lead role in realizing its mission. The Curator conducts research and develops museum exhibitions that contribute to art historical interpretation and knowledge production. The Curator will also play a key role in generating outreach strategies, connecting into the university curriculum and out to the greater public, activating the exhibition content through programming, such as symposia, residencies, tours, and workshops. The Curator reports to the Chief Curator and Executive Director of the NYUAD Art Galleries.
Key responsibilities
Curate a major exhibition every other year, collaborate with with the Chief Curator and faculty and external guest curators on exhibition development, conduct research, and develop relationships for future exhibitions, write, publish, and present in public forums related to above areas of research.
As a senior member of the gallery team, the Curator is responsible for representing the gallery mission to various communities and in the public eye. The Curator will be responsible for helping draw out the content of exhibitions through programming around all exhibitions, whether guest-curated or generated in-house. This should include creative strategies for engaging different audiences, such as: artist and curator meetings/content development with faculty, student engagement, developing symposia, conferences, residencies, connecting to schools and community groups (in collaboration with the education department), developing series of public talks and events for different regional publics, including adult, family, Arabic-language, scholarly, and other.
The Curator will represent the NYUAD Gallery in the communities it serves (attend regional and international events and Campus internal events) to develop relationships that enable synergies and growth among our varied constituents.
Campus Art Collection: Research and develop curatorial texts for NYUAD’s budding campus-wide collection, advise, together with the Chief Curator, on acquisition strategies, oversee site-specific commissions to come.
Essential requirements:
-An advanced degree in Art History or related field
-Six years of relevant experience (or combination of graduate education and experience)
-At least one major exhibition curated, critically reviewed
-Sophisticated understanding of art, art history, art collections
-Demonstrated understanding of museum standards of production
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills; highly organized and capable of managing multiple tasks; creative and highly detail-oriented; demonstrated ability to interact with multiple constituencies, including internal and external to NYU and NYUAD
Desirable background:
-Knowledge of the MENASA region or related topics
-International Modern or Contemporary specialization
-Fluent written and spoken Arabic, or other language from the Middle East, North Africa, or South Asia

Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is now accepting applications from national and international curators for its Curator-in-Residence Program. Beginning January 2019, the successful candidate will participate in a one-year fully subsidized live/work residency as part of Bemis Center’s acclaimed Artist-in-Residence Program. S/he will originate and present three exhibitions and related public programs inclusive of local and national artists. The Curator-in-Residence will work alongside residency and curatorial staff and actively contribute to the overall vision of Bemis Center’s renowned exhibition program. As a residency, the Curator-in-Residence will have the space and freedom to work on research and curatorial projects independent of his/her exhibitions at the Bemis.
Competitive applicants will possess a strong knowledge of international contemporary art and a genuine interest in researching and responding to cultural production in Omaha and the region. The Curator-in-Residence is part of the cultural fabric of the city, serving as a professional resource for local artists and arts professionals, and as an ambassador of Bemis Center in the community. S/he will be an integral member of Bemis Center’s Artist-in-Residence Program, stimulating intellectual discourse surrounding contemporary art practice through studio visits, knowledge-sharing workshops, and other organized programs with fellow artists-in-residence.
Reporting to the Program Director, the Curator-in-Residence is a full-time temporary position that will work closely with the Exhibition Program team. S/he will be involved in all curatorial and administrative aspects of organizing three exhibitions over the one-year residency. Exhibitions should be original, conceptually rigorous, and exemplify the true breadth and experimentation currently defining contemporary art. The 2019 exhibition dates are: March 21–June 15, July 11–September 21, and November 21, 2019–February 15, 2020.
Duties include, but are not limited to: research, artist and donor relations, exhibition design and installation, writing/editing of scholarly texts and didactics, budgeting, conceptualizing and leading exhibition-related public programs, and tours.
The Curator-in-Residence studio is for single occupancy only; Bemis Center is unable to accommodate partners, children, and pets at this time.

Eligibility
Residency opportunities are open to national and international arts professionals 21+ years of age, showing a strong professional working history.
Students enrolled in an academic program during the time of requested residency are not eligible to apply.
Bemis Center welcomes internationally based arts professionals to apply. A working knowledge of English is helpful for international artists, as an interpreter will not be provided. Upon notification of acceptance to the residency, the selected individual will be responsible for preparing and submitting the required personal employment visa materials by August 2018. Qualifications
Master’s degree in curatorial or museum studies, art history, or related field; or five years equivalent professional work experience in the field;
A minimum of 1–2 years of curatorial experience in an academic, nonprofit, and/or commercial gallery setting;
Strong knowledge of international contemporary art and a keen interest in understanding and working with Omaha’s cultural landscape;
Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
Creative and strategic thinker with the capacity to take initiative and to work independently as well as a team player in a fun, yet demanding, arts organization.
The ideal candidate will understand and promote Bemis Center’s mission and, as an ambassador of the organization, perform all Bemis-related duties in a professional, responsible manner.

Benefits
The selected Curator-in-Residence will receive an annual amount of $36,600, which includes a monthly residency stipend, a travel/research transportation allowance, and a curatorial honorarium*. The selected Curator-in-Residence will be offered a relocation allowance up to $2,000.** Bemis Center provides free, onsite lodging in a sizable, well-appointed live/work studio with private bath and kitchen including complimentary utilities, laundry, WiFi, and free parking. The Curator-in-Residence will work within a fast-paced team environment with Bemis Center staff, volunteers, interns, and Board of Directors, and have access to a dedicated gallery: approximately 2,000 square feet; 12 1/2 foot ceilings, and concrete floors.
*Miscellaneous income is subject to reporting on Form 1099.
**Curator-in-Residence will organize personal travel and moving costs to and from Omaha, Nebraska.
