L’Association des documentaristes du Canada / Documentary Organization of Canada est heureuse d’annoncer un appel de soumission pour ReBoot, une conférence web d’une semaine portant sur la production multiplateforme incorporant de la formation, du mentorat et des présentations d’experts. DOC cherche à soutenir ses membres lors de la transition vers le documentaire numérique et à bien positioner les réalisateurs et les producteurs dans l’environnement télévisuel canadien au moment où pleuvent les bouleversements occasionnés par le Fonds des médias du Canada. DOC cherche des propositions de documentaires multiplateformes conçus pour deux médias ou plus. La préférence sera accordée aux projets en développement qui incorporeront, en plus d’une version linéaire/télévisuelle, des méthodologies participatives et interactives. Les projets sélectionnés recevront du mentorat individuel offert par des professionnels du milieu au cours d’une semaine et culminera en une session de «pitch» en ligne se déroulant au moment de l’événement ReBoot au mois de février. articule est un centre d’artistes autogéré qui se consacre à la diffusion d’un large éventail de pratiques en art contemporain en s’intéressant plus particulièrement aux projets qui expérimentent et risquent. Avant de nous faire parvenir votre dossier, nous vous invitons à visiter notre site Internet afin d’obtenir plus d’informations sur les dimensions de la galerie, son mandat et sa programmation.
PROJETS SPÉCIAUX

Le volet des Projets spéciaux d’articule est un programme parallèle aux expositions en galerie et contribue à la co-diffusion de projets indépendants de diverses natures: interventions publiques, projets d’art action, manoeuvres, nouvelles pratiques artistiques, ainsi que projets web, conférences, ateliers, présentations de vidéos/films etc. Le comité donne une attention particulière aux pratiques indisciplinées, et les projets qui se réalisent in-situ et dans les lieux alternatifs. Le soutien d’articule en tant que co-diffuseur peut se manifester de différentes façons : appui financier (pour un montant maximum de $500), appui promotionnel et logistique, accès à l’équipement du centre, infrastructure administrative et lieu. Les frais admissibles sont: coûts reliés à la promotion et diffusion, vernissage, location d’espace et d’équipements, contribution aux cachets et à la production dans certains cas. Veuillez déposer un dossier complet (voir ci-dessous) et allouer un minimum de deux mois avant le début de votre activité pour l’évaluation de votre dossier.

APPEL AUX ARTISTES POUR UN PROJET D’ART PUBLIC
Projet de rénovation et d’agrandissement du Centre communautaire Overbrook
La Ville d’Ottawa a le plaisir d’inviter les artistes à présenter leur candidature pour pouvoir élaborer, concevoir et réaliser une oeuvre d’art public dans le cadre des travaux de rénovation et d’agrandissement du Centre communautaire Overbrook, comme le décrit le présent appel aux artistes. Ces derniers, conformément à la politique Pourcentage pour les arts, sont invités à proposer leur projet de conception et d’exécution d’une oeuvre d’art public qui fera partie de la cour extérieure du Centre communautaire Overbrook agrandi et rénové. Les artistes peuvent présenter une demande à titre individuel ou en équipe.

APPEL de dossiers pour les résidences d’artiste au Studio XX
Le Studio XX lance un appel de projets afin de recueillir des soumissions de dossiers pour son programme de résidences.
Date de tombée pour l’année 2010-2011 : 15 février 2010.
Le choix des candidates sera communiqué au cours du mois avril.
Les résidences d’artiste du Studio XX offrent aux artistes une occasion unique d’expérimenter de nouveaux logiciels et de nouvelles méthodes de travail dans des visées de création et de production novatrices. Notre centre favorise les approches interdisciplinaires et accueille des projets créés par des collectifs composés d’artistes qui collaborent avec d’autres professionnel-les afin de répondre à la multiplication des langages et besoins techniques de plus en plus complexes. Le Studio XX a développé un réseau d’expert(e)s afin de répondre aux besoins de programmation et de techniques des résidentes en s’assurant de procurer parallèlement un encadrement théorique et/ou critique. Ce réseau appuie l’artiste dans sa démarche et contribue à créer une situation dynamique, stimulante et ouverte.
Programme de résidences
Trois résidences d’une durée de 8 semaines sont offertes.
Cette année, la thématique du Studio est la résistance. Tout de meme, toutes les thématiques seront considérées. Par contre, nous avons une affection particulière pour les projets innovateurs qui considèrent les orientations du Studio : soit l’utilisation des logiciels libres et un point de vue engagé.
Les artistes ont le choix d’orienter leur proposition selon l’une des trois catégories suivantes :
Résidence Matricules
Cette catégorie est axée autour des archives du Studio XX comme source ou matériau du projet.
Matricules est l’une des plus grandes archives sur les oeuvres en art électronique et numérique réalisées par les femmes. Il s’agit d’un registre imagé et documentaire de l’histoire du Studio XX. Matricules, c’est plus de 3400 fichiers images, son, vidéo, textes critiques, communiqués, qui documentent tous nos volets : salons Femmes br@nchées, résidences d’artistes, coproductions et collaborations, projets et événements spéciaux, ateliers de formation, festival HTMlles, émission de radio XX Files, revue .dpi. La base de donnée de l’archive Matricules relie les individus, événements et les documents et permet de passer d’un élément à un autre. L’interface principale de Matricules présente un tableau imagé de tout son contenu par type d’événement et par mois, une sorte de tissage qui illustre l’ensemble de l’histoire du Studio. Ce prototype novateur a été développé avec le système de gestion de contenu (CMS) Drupal, un outil de création de site Web libre. [http://studioxx.org/fr/matricules]
Résidence virtuelle
Pour répondre à la situation répandue des artistes en région et à l’international qui souhaitent collaborer avec le Studio, mais qui n’ont pas les moyens financiers de se loger à Montréal pour la durée de leur séjour, le Studio offre des résidences virtuelles — ouvertes ou thématiques. En mettant à profit son serveur à large bande passante, le Studio prévoit un soutien technique à distance en fonction de chaque projet. Les participantes se verront allouer un espace sur le serveur et l’oeuvre réalisée sera publiée en ligne, hébergée sur le site du Studio pendant une période déterminée.

En gardant l’idée première des résidences ouvertes, le Studio XX continue d’offrir aux artistes un espace privilégié comme contexte libre de création pour les femmes qui recherchent un lieu d’échange et d’encadrement dans lequel elles peuvent définir un programme de travail autour de leurs préoccupations et de leurs démarches personnelles.
INFORMATIONS PRATIQUES
Toute proposition est examinée par un comité de sélection. Les projets sont choisis selon les conditions suivantes :
* oeuvres créées ou dirigées par des femmes artistes
* oeuvres d’art Web, d’art-réseau, numériques ou audionumériques, installations ou performances multimédias innovatrices autant au point de vue du contenu que de la forme.
* oeuvres qui peuvent être réalisées avec les ressources matérielles disponibles au Studio XX (équipement, connaissance technique, ressources financières)
De plus, la sélection du projet d’une candidate devra aussi répondre à au moins 2 de ces critères :
* appuyer de manière significative et à point nommé le parcours d’une artiste
* s’inscrire dans une volonté d’expérimentation technique que le Studio XX juge prioritaire
* exprimer d’une manière pertinente et captivante un engagement théorique, politique et/ou social
Pour les projets acceptés, le Studio XX offre :
* 2000 $ à répartir en cachet d’artiste et/ou jusqu’à 45 heures de formation et soutien technique.
* accès à l’équipement du centre (valeur de 3335$ en location)
* la possibilité d’assister à certains ateliers de groupe (valeur de 200$ à 300$)
* un espace distinct réservé à l’artiste et ses instructrices
Le Studio s’engage à diffuser le projet de l’artiste sur son site Web et lors d’un salon Femmes br@nchées durant l’année suivant la réalisation du projet. Pour les participantes à distance, ceci se fait par le biais d’une présentation en ligne (via Webdiffusion ou clavardage). Les résidences n’incluent pas le coût des déplacements, de l’hébergement ni de per diem; l’artiste est responsable de trouver un arrangement pour son séjour à Montréal.

COPRODUCTIONS
Le Studio XX reçoit toute l’année des propositions de coproduction d’artistes débutantes ou chevronnées, de collectifs d’artistes ou d’organismes. Une description du projet et ses spécificités techniques doivent accompagner les propositions.
Studio XX met à la disposition des artistes son parc informatique Linux et Mac, ses équipements vidéos et audionumériques. Il donne accès à l’espace disponible sur un de ses serveurs afin de favoriser les expérimentations en réseau et les webdiffusions. Studio XX est membre de Ile sans fil et offre un accès Internet sans fil. Les projets sont choisis par l’équipe en fonction de leur qualité, de la disponibilité du laboratoire et de la disponibilité des ressources techniques. Les coproductions effectuées au Studio XX exigent l’autonomie des artistes tant au niveau conceptuel que technique, mais le Studio offre, si nécessaire, un soutien technique personnalisé – les frais exigés sont de 25$/heure. Les projets peuvent s’échelonner jusqu’à trois mois. Il est nécessaire d’établir un échéancier et de réserver des plages de travail dans le laboratoire. Dans des cas très spécifiques, le Studio peut défrayer certains coûts encourus pour une coproduction — notamment des frais de formation de base pour les artistes participantes. Les productions/coproductions ne sont pas hébergées sur notre site Web, mais nous dirigeons les artistes vers différents serveurs qui sauront héberger leur travail.
Le Studio XX encourage la diffusion des oeuvres produites en coproductions lors des Salons Femmes br@nchées. Les participantes s’engagent à faire mention de la participation du Studio XX, dans toute publicité du projet.

Eastern Edge accepts proposals from individuals, groups and collectives in all visual arts media.
We are dedicated to cultural diversity in our programming and encourage applications from contemporary artists and curators of diverse communities and backgrounds.
Regular Programming submissions are solicited through a general annual national call with a deadline of March 31st. The Selection Committee reviews submissions within the context of Eastern Edge Gallery’s mandate and goals and makes recommendations to the board within 6 weeks of the deadline. [The Selection Committee is comprised of the Director and Assistant Director, 3-5 Board Members, and 2 Community Members.]

Explore what is possible with creative access to live, interactive, locally and globally connected screens: real-time, content-rich experiences on digital screens in our public space
The exhibition I am here; what can we do? is part of “Urban Screens Toronto 2010”, an international urban screens conference and exhibition taking place between September 24th-30th; produced in collaboration with the International Urban Screens Association (IUSA).
Urban Screens Toronto 2010 will promote a multifaceted approach to exploring the growing appearance of moving images in urban space and the global transformation of public culture in the context of networked forms of urban screens. It will build on the successful events held in Amsterdam, Manchester, and Melbourne and will be the first international Urban Screens conference held in North America.
Through an integrated program of keynote lectures, panel sessions, workshops, curated screenings and multimedia projects, it will bring together leading Canadian and international artists and curators, architects and urban planners, designers, ad agencies and brand managers, screen operators and content providers, academics, activists, policymakers, technology manufacturers, software developers and public intellectuals.

The Coalition of New Canadians for Arts and Culture is organizing an Art Exhibition in May 2010 in Ottawa showcasing artworks that acknowledge and celebrate Diversity and Multiculturalism.

Eligibility Criteria
The Exhibition is open to established and emerging artists. Artists must be New Canadians (meaning Canadians or permanent residents born in another country.)
The general guidelines for submitting artworks are as follows:
• Provide name, address, phone number, e-mail address and web site if available.
• Include Curriculum Vitae detailing experience and other relevant information.
• Submit digital files with a maximum of 10 artworks. These files must be in JPEG format and should be no less than 1 MB and should not exceed 3 MB in size.
• Include a description of works: media, size (inches: height x width), date and total price (taxes included).
• All works must have been finished within three years prior to submission and completed after May 2007.
• Provide a one-sentence statement describing the work submitted.
• All Media are accepted (two-dimensional works: paintings and works on paper including photographs). Experimental and mixed techniques are welcome.

After the submissions have been reviewed to ensure compliance with eligibility criteria, a panel of 5 jurors will evaluate the digital files and select the artists to be invited to participate in the exhibition. Those chosen will then be asked to submit the original artwork represented in their digital file submission.
Only up to 4 to 6 artworks per artist will be accepted. Artworks should preferably have the same theme.
Works on canvas to be exhibited must also be secured on stretcher bars; framing is optional. However, if the painting is on paper, the work must be framed with glazing; i.e., glass or Plexiglas.

RIM Park Premier Sports Fields
Art Commission – Waterloo ON
Background:
The City of Waterloo was awarded Federal/Provincial Grant funding to develop a premier outdoor sport field facility at RIM Park, which is already well established as a major community venue for sports, recreation and events. The City wishes to commission a public artwork to be part of the project.
The new project will greatly enhance community access to field sports.
The new complex will feature:
* two artificial fields that meet international/FIFA size standards
* the fields feature leading edge technology for storm water recycling, which collects rainwater to be re-used to irrigate the natural turf fields during dry weather
* state-of-the-art lighting on the complex of all six fields, (two artificial and four existing natural turf fields)
* comfort features for players and spectators including additional seating
* a washroom and concession building which will feature a green roof
* Community and neighbourhood enhancements include a one kilometer long walking trail loop, playground enhancements and the addition of shade trees wherever possible.
To provide our community with active sports parkland, an integration of human and natural spaces needs to be achieved. RIM Park and the new sport facilities are needed to encourage and facilitate our community need for outdoor physical exercise and team sports, which play a key role in community building. RIM Park also includes habitat preservation and opportunities for nature appreciation.
Vision Description for the Art Commission:
The City of Waterloo’s vision for the art work commission is a fun, playful, possibly whimsical and kinetic art feature that captures the spirit of ‘nature’ that we all hold in great importance in our lives.
The purpose of the art commission is to celebrate the ‘refined beauty and/or power of nature’ and the ‘interaction between nature and humans’.
The chosen work will include some or all of the following:
* A playful, fun, dynamic piece that recognizes and strengthens human interaction with our natural environment.
* Recognition of the beauty and design perfection of living creatures, plants and natural elements such as wind.
* Reinforcement of the basic human need to be close to, and experience nature.
* A celebration of the art forms found in nature and natural forces. Demonstrates how humans draw inspiration from nature for human-designed creations.
* A demonstration of ‘natural wonder’ that will inspire, teach and spark curiosity.

‘Mega Joy- A Collaborative Film Project – Emerging Doc. filmmakers – Jan 31
WHAT: An assignment-based competition for emerging documentary filmmakers.
The subject of this project is Christmas Light Enthusiasts. A film submitted to this contest should be produced as a short documentary about one person’s or group’s quest to create a spectacular holiday light display for their community. The film’s goals will be to portray their passion, explore their motivation, record their process and results in order to develop a compelling story arc and artistically display the filmmakers’ vision.
WHEN: The 2009 and 2010 holiday seasons.
The deadline for the film’s submission is January 31, 2010.
WHERE: Your film can be shot anywhere there are people working with an abundance of electric holiday lights for public display.
WHO (Eligibility): Any individual or group of individuals over the age of eighteen.
HOW: A filmmaker or a team of filmmakers will first fill out the application form, read the projects requirements, create a film and submit by mail a final product by the deadline.
WHY: This project is designed to create opportunity for emerging documentary filmmakers, producers and crews. Applicants will be competing for the chance to have their film distributed to a large audience. Six winners will be selected for inclusion in a collaborative ninety minute long documentary feature. Winners will be selected based on merit by a committee of industry professionals. Each winner will be paid an honorarium of one thousand dollars, awarded a contract for national distribution and promotion for their film, participation in film festivals, and profit-sharing in the proceeds from the collaborative feature’s sales. Every applicant will have created a portfolio piece and gained experience to take with them into their film careers.

Chaque année l’académie des beaux-arts d’Amsterdam met environ 25 de ses 50 ateliers à la disposition de jeunes artistes professionnels qui ont environ entre 3 et 5 années d’expérience de travail. Chaque année environ 2000 artistes se portes candidat. Ces artistes résidents de l’académie travaillent une ou deux années à leurs projets de production ou de recherche. Les critères principaux de sélection se concentrent sur l’excellence et une aptitude du travail à se développer. L’académie dispose d’amples équipements techniques ainsi que d’une bibliothèque, de la documentation et des collections d’art et son personnel offre ses conseils artistiques aux artistes-résidents.
Les artistes résidents travaillent toutes les disciplines des arts visuels, à partir de tous les médiums: peinture, dessin, photographie, gravure et sérigraphie, sculpture, video, film, son et nouveaux médias. Une partie de la programmation de la saison 2010-2011 (octobre/mi-juillet) sera confiée à un commissaire indépendant, un critique, un artiste ou un collectif, dont le projet aura été choisi par l’équipe pédagogique de l’école.
Le projet devra prendre en compte les dates des autres propositions de la programmation et questionner les paramètres du cycle d’expositions organisé : thématique, dispositif, rythme, etc. Son caractère expérimental sera l’un des principaux critères de sélection.
Inscrite dans le contexte pédagogique de l’école, la programmation devra être articulée à un workshop permettant à un petit groupe d’étudiants, d’aborder les problématiques de l’exposition. Ce workshop est encadré par un enseignant de l’école, mais il est conçu et animé par le curateur invité qui doit intégrer la présence et la participation des étudiants à chaque étape de son travail (depuis la conception des expositions jusqu’à leur médiatisation). En outre, le commissariat devra expérimenter une action de médiation envers un public extérieur qu’il déterminera. Dans son avant-projet, il devra faire part des motivations qu’il souhaite engager vis à vis de ce public.
Le curateur invité est rémunéré en tant qu’intervenant sous forme d’honoraires.
Le budget global est de 25 000 euros. Il comprend les productions, le transport des œuvres, le déplacement des artistes et du curateur, la communication et l’édition. En plus de ce budget, est prévu un défraiement de 5000 euros si le commissaire est seul, 7000 euros s’ils sont deux et 8000 euros au delà.
L’école veillera à héberger le curateur pour l’exercice de sa mission. Soit dans un studio d’artiste qui permet d’accueillir simultanément des artistes invités et le commissaire, soit dans une chambre de l’appartement des enseignants, soit très exceptionnellement en chambre d’hôte. Cette facilité d’hébergement permet à l’école de solliciter une présence régulière du commissaire, pour la conduite de son projet et notamment son volet pédagogique, tout en sachant qu’une partie de son travail peut s’effectuer à distance.
Le curateur travaille en collaboration avec l’école, notamment l’équipe pédagogique et, plus particulièrement avec l’équipe permanente de la box : Chloé Nicolas, responsable de la box – Laurent Gautier, régisseur – Véronique Frémiot, médiatrice culturelle.
Il n’y a pas de format d’exposition prédéfini. Le rythme (nombre et durée) reste à l’initiative du commissaire invité : il est possible d’imaginer une seule exposition évolutive, plusieurs expositions par mois, ou aucune, tout est imaginable. Parmi les expositions proposées, il est souhaitable qu’une ait lieu hors les murs. Le commissaire sera attentif au calendrier scolaire (vacances, examens) afin de faciliter la participation des étudiants.
Le programme d’exposition est totalement indépendant du dispositif de résidence.
La présence d’artistes en résidence peut cependant permettre de nouveaux contacts et d’envisager des associations d’une manière ou d’une autre au projet du curateur.
Nous attirons l’attention des candidats sur la très grande disponibilité qu’impose la conduite d’un tel programme. Des réunions régulières et notamment la réunion de validation et d’organisation du projet sont indispensables sur place avec l’école, les étudiants du workshop et l’équipe de la box. Une grande réactivité s’impose, par email ou par téléphone, lors de la préparation des expositions. La présence est nécessaire dans la galerie pendant les périodes de montage. Dans le cas d’un collectif, la concertation et la coordination doivent être garanties entre les commissaires associés afin que ceux-ci puissent se relayer sans contradiction auprès de l’école et de l’équipe de la box.

The Future Generation Art Prize established by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation is a worldwide contemporary art prize to discover, recognize and provide long-term support to a future generation of artists.

HOUSTON CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY CRAFT
If you are an institution, curator or artist working with materials or processes traditionally associated with craft and would like to have work considered for exhibition, The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft’s exhibition committee would like to hear from you.
The Craft Center reviews exhibition proposals on an ongoing basis. HCCC is a non-collecting institution with a mission to advance education about the process, product and history of craft. The museum has a reputation for cutting edge exhibitions of both traditional and contemporary craft. HCCC is interested in proposals for regional and national multiple artist exhibitions, individual exhibitions, installations and small group shows. Individual artist proposals may also be considered for inclusion in group shows curated by Craft Center staff.
The Craft Center consists of a formal 3000 square foot museum quality space (foot high ceilings and lineal feet of wall space) divided into smaller spaces. The main gallery exhibitions typically range from two to four months in length. An alternative informal “Artist Hall” space is also utilized for collaborative programming by the exhibition, education and retail departments. Its exhibitions typically run for one month.

Thinking Through Images
Thinking Through Images was established to foster conversations about images and videos of cultural, political, and social relevance, between artists, writers, researchers, and other cultural practitioners working in different fields. The program aims to facilitate close readings of popular media and fine art—from nineteenth-century paintings to Internet memes to documentation of current events—that consider these cultural products in a common context.
New Media Reporting Project
The New Media Reporting Project was established to provide journalists an outlet for—and provide them with the training and technical resources and expertise to realize—in-depth, critical reports executed in multiple media, with the goal of providing an immersive experience of the stories and subjects that shape our age.
New Programming
New Programming was established to support the development of exhibitions, panel discussions, performances, film screenings, and other public events that examine the intersection of culture, politics, and technology.
ABOUT
Triple Canopy works collectively with writers, artists, researchers and other collaborators on projects that deal critically with culture and politics, and the ways people engage them, both online and in the world at large. These investigations are realized in an online magazine as well as in public programs and print publications encompassing various fields and locales. We aim to present work and advance ideas informed by a multitude of disciplines and perspectives, and to disseminate them among a broad and diverse audience. Triple Canopy, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, was founded in late 2007; our first issue was published on March 17, 2008.

The “H+F Curatorial Grant” is an ambitious and original initiative which allows the FRAC Nord–Pas de Calais (Dunkirk/France) in close partnership with the private collector Han Nefkens (H+F Collection) and the de Appel arts centre (Amsterdam/NL), to give young international curators the opportunity to participate in the development of exhibition projects based on the collection of FRAC Nord-Pas-de- Calais.
This grant, which was launched in 2007, offers emerging art curators a unique infrastructure and environment with free access to a research and documentation centre as well as to one of the best French collections of contemporary art. The FRAC acts as the first intermediary for these future professionals of contemporary art by helping them to develop and implement their projects.
A panel composed of Han Nefkens (H+F Collection), Ann Demeester (Director of de Appel) and Hilde Teerlinck (Director of the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais) will select the new candidate. The selected person will become part of the FRAC’s team as an assistant curator, coordinating local, national and international exhibition-projects. She / he will receive in exchange a grant for 12 months (May 2010 – May 2011) that will help finance her/his living and travel expenses.
An excellent knowledge of English is required, knowledge of French would be helpful.
The candidate will have to install her/himself in Dunkirk for the mentioned period.
This project has been made possible thanks to the generous support of Han Nefkens (journalist, writer and art collector), which enables the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais to reinforce the development of a strong and active policy of patronage around its activities. From 2008 onwards the application process is open for former students of de Appel Curatorial Programme and all aspiring young curators who wish to enhance their expertise and further develop their skills and agilities in project management.
