une description détaillée du projet d’exposition;

Call for Submissions: Exhibitions

White Water Gallery (WWG) is seeking proposals from artists working in all media for the 2017/18 programming season.

Deadline: June 30, 2016

WWG is dedicated to presenting work by contemporary artists working in or across a variety of disciplines. The gallery strives to present experimental, alternative and/or critically engaged art that is relevant to diverse cultures and “wicked problems.”  The gallery welcomes submissions from individual artists, curators, and collectives, with new or existing exhibition proposals.

We also encourage initiatives that seek to expand our programming beyond the gallery space, and welcome proposals for site-specific projects.

The Gallery Space

White Water is an open concept gallery with a storefront window right on Main Street.

The exhibition space is about 1000 square feet in total (including the front entry area [20 x 15 = 300 sq ft] and the main area [35 x 20 = 700 sq ft]).  The tin ceilings are about 14 feet high, and there is a drywall lip at 10 feet high.

This image was taken from the WWG storefront, during the process of installing the Point of No Return Collective show (2015).

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

You will be asked to include the following:

  1. Proposal/Project Description (1 page maximum)
  2. Technical Requirements
  3. Artist/Curatorial Statement (250 words max)
  4. Artist Bio(s) (250 words max, each)
  5. Current CV (3 pages max)
  6. Visual Support Material with Support Material List (15 images max)

Please select visual support material mindfully, as committee members have limited time to consider each proposal. Images should be labeled numerically with the artist’s name (01_name.jpg, 02_name.jpg, etc.). Your Support Material List should include title of work, date created, medium, and dimensions.

Video documentation should either be uploaded to a site such as Youtube or Vimeo and linked in the application, or included on a USB or DVD. Regardless of duration, please include full videos. Due to time constraints, the selections committee may only view up to 5 minutes of each video. Please note the clip you would prefer the jury view by including time marks in the documentation list.

White Water Gallery will accept mailed submissions, but we prefer those submitted by email to: programming [arobas] whitewatergallery [point] com

Programming Process

Proposals are judged on artistic merit and project viability, as well as in relation to White Water Gallery’s mandate and programming focus.

All submissions to the Annual Call are vetted by a Programming Committee composed of: the Director, 3 working artists or curators from the region, and 1 invited artist or curator from outside of North Bay.  Based on this jury’s decisions, and taking budgetary and scheduling constraints into consideration, the Director makes final decisions in selecting each exhibition.

Please allow approximately 3 months after the deadline for the White Water Gallery jury to consider submissions.

NOTE: Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis, and those received after the post-marked deadline will be held over until the next review.

MISSION

Established in 1974 and incorporated in 1977, the White Water Gallery has played a leading role in the promotion and dissemination of contemporary art and culture, both locally and nationally. As a not-for-profit Artist-Run Centre, the Gallery aims to facilitate a diverse range of artistic programming. [To be expanded.]

Exhibition Fees
The White Water Gallery is considered a Category 1 gallery and is classified as a small space by Canadian Artists Representation Copyright Collective (CARCC). We pay full artist fees in accordance with this designation and the CARCC guidelines. The current fee for a solo exhibition is $1,900, which does not include fees paid for additional activities that may be scheduled such as artist talks, panel discussions, or screenings. We also attempt to offset costs related to shipping, travel and accommodations, and encourage artists to apply for travel bursaries and/or exhibition assistance to cover any additional costs.

NAISA is pleased to launch its
2016 Call For Submissions SOUND RESPONSE
Deadline June 15, 2016
www.naisa.ca

Categories: Transmission Art/Radio Art, Electroacoustic Music/Sound Art, Interactive Installation Art, and Other

Go to http://naisa.ca/opportunities/calls-for-submissions/naisa-general-call-for-submissions/ for full information and on-line application

New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme Sound Response for consideration in New Adventures in Sound Art’s 2017 programming.

Sounds, people, animals and environments interact in interesting and complex ways. Languages are shaped by environments, sounds often distinguish the character of a community or habitat, and sound waves propagate differently when they respond to different surfaces and atmospheric conditions. For its 2017 programming, NAISA is interested in submissions that reflect the notion of a Sound Response and creative ways that this can be shared.

Preference in programming will be given to works that respond in some way to the theme Sound Response. Individual interpretations or variations on the theme are encouraged, but should be realized with sound as the primary component. NAISA would also like to encourage artists to submit works on the theme for performance, gallery exhibit, audio-visual screening, radio or internet broadcast, telematics, mobile experiences and any other emerging or alternative formats that include sound as a primary element. Please complete in full the online submission form and upload your audio by midnight on June 15, 2016. Note: there is a $5 submission fee in order to defray the cost of processing the submissions. All works chosen for presentation will receive an artist fee. Only those artists being considered for presentation will be contacted.

Marl Media Art Awards 2016: Space
Dealing with Space in Video and Sound
Historically and spatially, the Marl Media Art Awards refer to the orientation as a sculpture museum and to the modernist architecture of the Marl Town Hall completed in 1966. Because spatial reference is the key criteria for sculpture, for the third time the competition invites media artists who deal with all facets of space in their works to participate.

Since 1984, the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl has hosted the Video Art Award, and since 2002 the Sound Art Award, which has been further developed into the EUROPEAN SOUNDART AWARD. The two media, which define themselves principally through video and sound, have much in common: not only are they both time-related, but in many video works the acoustic level is very important, while more and more sound works include moving images. The Marl Media Art Awards will present the results of both competitions in one exhibition at the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl.

Marl Video Art Award 2016
The works submitted for the Marl Video Art Award 2016 must relate—thematically, formally or in its presentation—to the specific space. The spatial reference here also means avoiding linear narrative structures while featuring a different, non-linear temporal structure, such as a loop, which is ideal for presentation in a museum. Classic, single-channel videos, shown on a monitor or projected on a screen, remain acceptable. Overall, however, the international competition gives preference to multi-channel installations and installations extended through use of additional materials. 20 works will be selected for the exhibition and will compete for the Marl Video Art Award 2016, with 5,000 EUR in prize money. The prize money will be aimed at acquisition of the awarded piece for the permanent collection of the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl. The Marl Video Art Award will be awarded by the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl.

EUROPEAN SOUNDART AWARD 2016
For the EUROPEAN SOUNDART AWARD we are also looking for works explicitly related to the space and sound creations that characterize the space. Along with artistic quality, convincing acoustic and plastic form will be a particularly relevant assessment criterion. In addition, three of ten contestants selected for the exhibition will be invited by the same jury to visit Marl in the summer in order to develop concepts for a to be selected space in Marl. One of these concepts will be awarded the EUROPEAN SOUNDART AWARD and 7,000 EUR as money prize for its immediate realization. WDR 3, the Stiftung Hören and the European Soundart Association strive for closer networking of the European sound art with the European cultural radio stations and will therefore also check all submissions for suitability for possible radiofonic realizations. The EUROPEAN SOUNDART AWARD 2016 will be awarded by the Culture Radio WDR 3, the Stiftung Hören and the European Soundart Association in cooperation with the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl.

General conditions, application and dates
In addition to the thematical and formal requirement of addressing space, works submitted for both sound and video art competitions must have been produced after January 1, 2014.

The deadline for submission for both Marl Media Art Award competitions is May 30.

Two international prize juries for video art and sound art will select 20 video art works and 10 pieces of sound art to be placed in display in a group exhibition in the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl and other venues in Marl. The juries will also select the winners of the Marl Video Art Award 2016 and the EUROPEAN SOUNDART AWARD 2016.

The exhibition opening and awards ceremony of the Marl Media Art Awards 2016 will take place on October 23 in the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl. The exhibition will last till February 2017.

Further information on competition rules and online application forms are available at www.mkp-marl.de.

FUNDACIÓN CALLE BOHEMIA
CONVOCATORIA
7º ENCUENTRO PERFORMANCE PARA LA VI(D)A.

Date limite d’inscription : vendredi 3 juin 2016

Residency For Artists On Hiatus (RFAOH)

Call for applications 2016/2017

RFAOH co-directors Shinobu Akimoto and Matthew Evans are pleased to invite international “artists on-hiatus” to apply to their third call for residents to participate in their ongoing project Residency For Artists On Hiatus (RFAOH).

Residency For Artists On Hiatus is a virtual yet functioning residency available to artists who, for one reason or another, are NOT currently making or presenting art. The residency exists in the form of a website only, and the residents are selected based on their proposals of “on-hiatus” activities (or non-activities). To be eligible to apply, artists must have previously created an independent body of work and have exhibited in a public context. Selected residents will be represented on a dedicated page within the RFAOH website, where they post periodic reports throughout their residency. A modest stipend will be awarded to successful applicants to assist in their on-hiatus endeavour. At the conclusion of their residency, residents are asked to submit a written report on how they benefited from or were otherwise influenced by this opportunity.

Since its launch in 2013, Residency For Artists On Hiatus has hosted twelve international “on-hiatus artists” with a broad range of backgrounds and projects. Through this opportunity to be free from the obligations of being an artist, they have explored the space between art-making and other creative endeavour, and the limits and liminalities of professionalism in the arts. Residency For Artists On Hiatus has also generated steady responses, including a growing community of followers, featured articles in various media, and invitations for presentations from art spaces worldwide.

We are excited to host a third cohort of residents, and continue our discourse surrounding the role of art within the wider culture. This year, we also look forward to the publication of “RFAOH Annual Reports”, which will document our operation and our residents’ “on-hiatus” activities. To know more about Residency For Artists On Hiatus, please visit: www.residencyforartistsonhiatus.org. Detailed information on how to apply can be found at www.residencyforartistsonhiatus.org/application.php

THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS JUNE 25, 2016

Residency For Artists On Hiatus continues to seek a host organization who may promote the residency through their own website, and/or assist in funding the programme. If your institution/organization is interested in supporting RFAOH, please contact us at info [arobas] residencyforartistsonhiatus [point] org

We would like to thank the organizations and individuals who have helped us in various ways over the last three years. We also sincerely thank Mr. Tehching Hsieh for accepting our invitation to sit on our advisory board. Without their support and encouragement, this third call for applications would have never happened.

Caldera Arts Center Artist Residencies, Oregon

Open to artists internationally
Deadline for 2016 General Residency: June 15 2016; for Artists in Schools Residency August 1
Applications for 2017 will open mid-January 2016. Alumni must wait one year before re-applying.

Every winter from January through March, creative individuals and collaborative groups are awarded the gift of time and space at our beautiful Arts Center in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains near Sisters, Oregon, for month-long residencies.

Residencies are open to national and international artists in any discipline including 2-D, 3-D, installation, film, digital, photography, music, dance, theater, and literary, as well as creative thinkers in engineering, design, and the sciences, who have emerged and established themselves beyond university training. Caldera also accommodates parent-artists. In 2016, we are also opening additional residency opportunities to culinary artists.

APPLICATIONS

Applications for 2016 are now open through June 15, 2016. The applications process must be completed online through submittable.com. Apply here.

Those artists who wish to apply as collaborators must submit under the collaboration category. Mature, as well as emerging artists, are encouraged to apply. Artists in the United States, US citizens abroad, and international artists are eligible. Proposals for creative residencies must be compatible with available working studio spaces, facilities, and resources.

Applications for 2017 will open mid-January 2016. Alumni must wait one year before re-applying.

If you are a parent-artist, please inquire directly with AiR Director, Elizabeth Quinn.

SELECTION PROCESS

Panels meet in late summer to review applications and invitations are made in early September. Artistic merit and promise are the basis for selections. While it is not required, an embrace of how art and nature communicate is encouraged at Caldera.

A panel of fellow artists and art professionals chooses 21-36 artists for residences each year. The panel changes annually in order to keep the program dynamic. Final awards of residencies are at the discretion of Caldera. In some special instances, artists are invited to participate without submitting an application.

Depending on funding, Caldera may make stipends available to attending residents. For more information about stipends, contact Elizabeth Quinn. Residents are responsible for food, travel, materials, and other expenses.

LIVING ENVIRONMENT

Residents are provided a private cabin (two walk-up log cabins and five A-frame cabins available) with sleeping loft, living room/work area, kitchenette, bathroom, and a porch overlooking Link Creek or with a view of Blue Lake from their windows. Cabins are heated by woodstove (with chopped wood provided) and electric heat. The kitchens have a coffeepot, two-burner stove, microwave, small refrigerator, dishes, and pots and pans. Once a week, dinner provided by Caldera, is shared as a group.

There is very little cell service at Caldera. Dependable service is a 20-minute drive away in Sisters. A landline is available to residents. A phone card is required for long-distance calls. Wi-Fi is available throughout the Hearth Building, studios, and cabins.

We regret that pets are not allowed. Caldera is a smoke-free environment.

Overnight accommodations are limited to invited residents only. Artists with children and a caretaker are the only exception. Studio time and teaching and presentation opportunities are only for artists invited through the application process. Accommodations for visitors are available in the local area community and range from 10 – 16 miles from Caldera.

»Click here for a virtual tour

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Residents are given 24-hour access to studios and the time and space to create.

They have access to the Hearth Building where there is rehearsal and performance space, a mixing board, sound booth, speakers, a projector and large screen, and a well-equipped commercial kitchen. There is also shared access to wet and dry studios that house a darkroom, two kilns, 18” x 36” etching press, and large blank walls.

By design, residents form a small community of 7–12 artists, depending on the group. Collaboration and exchange is encouraged.

Writers and others not needing an expansive space, work in their A-frames, which contain a large table and living area. A shared loft space in the Hearth Building is optional for writers and digital artists.

Visual artists work in one of Caldera’s two studios. Campbell Studio is a semi-private space that holds two studios for visual artists of all kinds. One side of Campbell Studio has two kilns, drying shelves, a work table, sink and counter; the other side has large walls, a work table, a large and small sink and counters. Studio B has large walls, a sink, counter, work table, a darkroom and the etching press. Both studios include natural light and large loft spaces above the main floor.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Artists are not required to finish a project during their residency, but they share their work with the local community at our Open Studios events at the end of each month. Open Studios are held at our Arts Center on the last Saturday of every residency. They are free and open to the public.

Artists are also encouraged to do outreach projects with Caldera youth and in neighboring schools in the area. There are opportunities to present work or to create workshops for youth.Occasionally calls for applications for teaching residencies are announced at Caldera. If you would like to be notified of these opportunities, please email AiR Director, Elizabeth Quinn.Go here, for past residents’ perspectives of a residency at Caldera. Read this, to help understand if a residency is right for you go to.

Atelier Topaz – résidence
Opasatika, Ontario, Canada

Centennial Mural Competition

The winning design will receive a $10,000 commission!

As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, as well as marking Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017, Centennial College is commissioning a site specific outdoor mural. Located at its Progress Campus in east Toronto, this mural will be part of the new Centennial College Residence & Culinary Arts Centre, which will combine a residence, a local café and restaurant, our School of Hospitality, Tourism, and Culinary Arts, and a Centennial event centre.

The mural will establish an iconic visual presence on this site; both looking back through Canada’s 150 years of growth and accomplishment, while providing a visionary glimpse of a Canadian future of innovation and education, and world leadership in cultural, environmental, scientific and economic sectors. It will consider Centennial’s rich history of excellence in education and its future, a testament to Centennial’s proud vision in shaping Canadian society for generations to come.

Submissions will be accepted online here starting May 2, 2016. Please be prepared to submit a PowerPoint presentation (converted to PDF for submission) containing all required information as outlined in the Competition Structure below.

CALL FOR ARTISTS!

The Gardiner Museum is inviting artists to create “green” art installations for our annual 12 Trees exhibition.

Submission Deadline: JUNE 15, 2016

Visit the website and download the full request for proposals

Over the last 27 years, the Gardiner Museum has celebrated the festive season with its signature fundraising exhibition, 12 Trees, and its central gala event, the G Party. Last year, the 12 Trees exhibition was reinvigorated as a showcase of contemporary tree-inspired art installations based on the theme “The Joy of Creativity”. The artists and designers included Justin Broadbent, Bruno Billio, Jane Waterous, and Michael Adamson, among others. The exhibition raised over $130,000 for the Gardiner, doubled its audience over previous years, and received tremendous media coverage.

The Gardiner is among the few museums in the world focused on ceramics. This year’s 12 Trees theme celebrates the very foundations of clay: the Earth. The Gardiner values the one-of-a-kind and the handmade, careful rather than mass consumption, and the preservation of treasured objects for future generations.

In 2016, we invite artists to propose Christmas tree installations inspired by the theme Good for the Earth. Proposals should address one, or all, of the following:

  • Are recycled
  • Draw attention to material culture
  • Focus on the handmade
  • Are made of sustainable material
  • Illustrate something that is, simply, good for the Earth
