Le Ministère du Patrimoine canadien mène un sondage pour dresser un portrait plus complet et actualisé de la communauté artistique et de la création dans l’ensemble du Canada.
Le Sondage économique auprès des artistes et des créatrices/créateurs de contenu canadiens a été lancé en ligne le 10 mai 2021 et restera accessible pour une durée de 6 semaines.
Les données recueillies dans le cadre de ce sondage permettront d’éclairer les politiques publiques et les programmes futurs et existants du gouvernement fédéral, en veillant à ce que le Ministère continue de s’adapter à la réalité du secteur de la création. Ce sondage présente une occasion cruciale pour les artistes et les créatrices/créateurs de contenu de faire entendre leurs voix. Cela vous inclut !

Sous la gouverne de BRIDGE Centre for Architecture + Design et de Cambridge Art Galleries | Idea Exchange, Missing Pages est un projet en ligne, axé sur la collectivité, qui privilégie des voix sous-représentées dans nos institutions du savoir. Qu’il s’agisse d’une archive, d’une université ou d’une bibliothèque, les répertoires publics d’histoires sont censés nous dire qui nous sommes. Cependant, il ne fait aucun doute qu’ils oublient et excluent certaines expériences et connaissances. Cette série d’œuvres et de programmes publics en ligne met l’accent sur les récits personnels et collectifs qui façonnent nos communautés, à la fois localement et internationalement, et qui n’apparaissent pas dans les collections de documents.
Nous invitons les artistes de tous niveaux, du Canada et de l’étranger, à soumettre leurs projets. Les candidats et candidates retenus recevront un cachet d’artiste en accord avec le barème CARFAC en cours, et une aide à la production pouvant aller jusqu’à 500 $. Toutes les personnes ayant déposé un projet seront avisées des résultats au début de juillet.

Le projet
Perspectives excentrées est un projet de production et de diffusion de l’image imprimée traitant de l’art en banlieue, initié par Zocalo, centre d’artistes. Le centre se positionne comme partenaire des artistes pour réaliser des œuvres imprimées avec ses propres équipements. Il invite les artistes à soumettre une à deux propositions d’estampes et images numériques qui seront imprimées par le centre à des fins d’exposition.
L’exposition possède deux volets : une présentation extérieure au carré Isidore-Hurteau à Longueuil, orientée autour de la présentation de drapeaux, de bannières ou de fanions, qui occupent l’espace public. Les œuvres peuvent prendre une forme installative ou il peut s’agir d’images bidimensionnelles seulement. La commissaire invite les artistes à réfléchir à la mise en exposition et aux dispositifs de présentation des œuvres, en prenant appui sur les images du carré Isidore-Hurteau jointes à cet appel.
Le second volet concerne la présentation des œuvres dans une salle d’exposition de Longueuil, à l’automne 2021. Les œuvres peuvent prendre des configurations différentes pour la présentation en intérieur, à la convenance de l’artiste. Les œuvres seront également présentées en simultané dans une exposition virtuelle accessible par le site internet de Zocalo.
Orientations thématiques
Le centre et la commissaire invitent les artistes à réfléchir aux singularités de l’art hors des grandes métropoles et aux influences des territoires limitrophes sur la pratique artistique. Par l’usage du drapeau ou de la bannière comme véhicule de communication, symbole puissant d’affirmation identitaire, le projet s’intéresse également aux aspects de revendication, de détournement d’usage, et de ludisme de cet objet dans l’espace public.
En adéquation au site de diffusion, soit un parc au cœur de la ville de Longueuil, première banlieue de Montréal, les propositions peuvent adopter des postures critiques, humoristiques, poétiques, etc. au choix de l’artiste, qui devra démontrer la pertinence de son intervention dans le site prévu pour les œuvres et vis-à-vis de la thématique.
Conditions de production :
Les œuvres seront imprimées par Zocalo, qui fournit le support d’impression.
Les œuvres seront imprimées avec une imprimante à jet d’encre. Les images pourront être imprimées en plusieurs sections pour en créer de plus grandes.
Chaque œuvre ou section devra avoir un format maximal de 22 x 30 pouces.
Les artistes demeureront propriétaires des œuvres à l’issue de l’exposition.
Conditions de participation :
Les artistes sélectionnées recevront un cachet de 1 400$ CAD
L’installation des œuvres sera prise en charge par l’équipe de Zocalo, centre d’artistes. L’artiste peut y participer à sa convenance.
Les fichiers numériques des œuvres choisies par la commissaire devront être livrés au plus tard à la fin juin 2021 pour impression.
Votre dossier doit comprendre :
Une proposition de projet, incluant la description de l’œuvre proposée, la cohérence avec la thématique ainsi qu’un plan sommaire des besoins techniques (matériaux, formats, etc.)
Un texte de démarche (max. 1 page)
Un curriculum vitae (max. 2 pages)
Un maximum de 10 images JPG. Il peut s’agir des images numériques proposées, d’une maquette du projet ou encore d’images tirées de la pratique antérieure de l’artiste, selon le cas.

Platforms: We Are Here, Live – Artist Call
The City of Vancouver is welcoming submissions for Platforms: We Are Here, Live, a
public art program which will commission temporary artworks for existing platforms
throughout
Vancouver.
The program focuses on artists working in video and two-dimensional media and each
commissioned artist will receive $5,000 for the creation, editing and design of the
artwork.
The City hopes to feature up to twenty Vancouver-based artists and Musqueam,
Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh artists, who are grappling with the issues revealed by the
COVID-19 pandemic. Emerging artists and those new to working in the public realm are
encouraged to apply.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: MOUNT PLEASANT COMMUNITY ART SCREEN
Through the inaugural year of the Mount Pleasant Community Art Screen, the
curatorial vision has been centralized on the broader theme of PLACE; largely as place
in its literal geographical perimeters on the stolen, unceded territories of the
Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations, as a part of one of so-called
Vancouvers earliest neighbourhoods. However, this theme has also evolved to
encompass a continuing community and network of makers holding deep knowledge of
the areas histories, holding visions of the future, and holding ground as the landscape
rapidly shifts in the Mount
Pleasant neighbourhood.
The MPCAS will continue to honour its initial framing of PLACE; as a community
screen we are beholden to how we are on the land and how we wish to reflect the
communities we envision this screen to be for. In this continuing work, we also invite
and encourage submissions which speak towards the ambiguity of place–of
displacement, diaspora, digital and contested space, as well as artists whose work has
been inextricably shaped by their time in the communities of this PLACE.
We accept a wide variety of media works and formats to a maximum of 10 minutes,
including video, film, animation, gif and photography. The MPCAS is programmed by
grunt gallery.

Located on Treaty 4 Territory, Neutral Ground is a not-for-profit, artist-run-centre that
presents contemporary visual and media art. From the
gallery in downtown Regina, Saskatchewan, we connect audiences to the work of
emerging and mid-career artists, and from established artists experimenting with new
directions in their practices.
Neutral Ground invites contemporary, professional artists and curators to submit a
proposal for exhibitions, projects, or performances in any media. Neutral Ground
welcomes exhibition proposals from all professional artists regardless of ability, age,
culture, ethnicity, citizenship, gender identity, or race. (Please note that proposals from
artists based outside of Canada will be considered only as budget and resources
allow.)
Thanks to funding from the Canada Council for the Arts, Sask Arts and the City of
Regina, Neutral Ground pays artist fees in accordance with the CARFAC fee schedule
for level 1 gallery exhibitions.
Proposals received prior to 11:59 pm on June 1st will be assessed by a jury in
consideration for the 2022-23 programming season. Proposals will be accepted for
both the Main Gallery and the Window Gallery. Neutral Ground presents 4-5 exhibitions
per year in our Main Gallery, as well as additional performances and special events.
The Window Gallery presents up to 6 presentations per year. Please carefully review
the features of each space when drafting a proposal. See ‘Full call for Proposals’ for
physical descriptions and floor plans. Artists are limited to one solo exhibition in a
three-year period and work that has been shown previously in Regina is not

The Emerging Digital Artists Award (EDAA) is pleased to announce the 2021 Call for Applications is now open.
The EDAA is Canada’s major award for critical experimentation in digital media, co-presented by EQ Bank and Trinity Square Video. The 2021 edition launches with guest judges Cat Bluemke, Ashley Jane Lewis, and Suzanne Morrissette, a new visual identity by featured artist Khadija Aziz, and a prize structure that recognizes early-career digital artists for their exceptional work more than ever before.
Launched in 2015, the EDAA was established to celebrate early-career media artists working actively and creatively with digital technologies, awarding a single grand prize and four finalist prizes each year. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 EDAA shifted its structure by increasing the prize amount in lieu of an in-person award ceremony, awarding all five finalists a grand prize. The 2021 EDAA will continue to award five grand prizes, with other additional prize offerings detailed below.
For the 2021 EDAA:
Five artists will each be awarded a $5,000 prize;
Their award-winning works will be featured in a group exhibition at Trinity Square Video, as well as online, September 10-October 2, 2021
Each artist will receive a one-year Production Membership to Trinity Square Video; and
One of the five artists will earn a dedicated spot in Trinity Square Video’s 2022 Themed Commission residency program
Artists within the first five years of their professional careers are encouraged to apply. We welcome submissions of screen-based works that are not only created with digital technologies, but also speak to the concerns, ethics, and constructs of digital space. Artwork submissions may include, but are not limited to: images, videos, animations, GIFs, websites, games, applications, and immersive technologies.

Phileas is a philanthropic organisation based in Vienna, Austria, that enables ambitious projects within the field of contemporary art. Its activities focus primarily on international exhibitions by Austrian and Austrian-based artists.
Phileas co-produces new works and their presentation in museum exhibitions and biennials, as well as accompanying publications and symposia. Where possible, its support is extended to enable the acquisition of the works for public collections.
The deadline for applications for 2022 project collaborations is September 10, 2021. Applications must be submitted by institutions. Applicants will be informed of a decision in November 2021. For further details, please see our application form.
In addition to funding collaborations on exhibitions, Phileas provides curatorial assistance to museum and biennial curators and organises funded research trips to Austria to visit artists’ studios, foundations and museums. Griffin Art Projects is committed to providing support, resources, solidarity and profile
for local BIPOC artists. This is a studio-only residency intended for artists living in the
metro-Vancouver area. This residency award is offered in conjunction with Worldings:
thinking through decolonial futures: a collaborative, multi-layered project that includes
an exhibition of the work of South African artist William Kentridge curated by
Baldissera, as well as a public program and residency series that will explore the
unique artistic
perspectives and histories that exist between the Canadian and South
African experience as seen through the eyes of artists, writers, curators and activists.
This program will focus on resiliency through the lens of the historical events of the last
year, and the ways in which solidarity, resistance and advocacy are remitted in hope,
for their capacities to elicit lasting structural change and collective care.
The successful applicant receives:
2 months of rent-free studio space in Griffin Art Projects residency building In August
and September 2021.
A residency artist fee of $2000.00
The opportunity to share the works created throughout the residency during a virtual
open studio event organized and promoted by Griffin Art Projects.

Elle offre la possibilité d’élaborer des stratégies singulières pour générer, transformer ou diffuser l’image dans son travail.
Le centre offre aux artistes les moyens techniques de développer de nouveaux langages à partir d’un vocabulaire numérique pertinent et actuel. Les artistes sont accueillis dans nos lieux de productions et sont soutenus par l’équipe de manière continue dans une vision à long terme.

Cette résidence offre la possibilité de réfléchir la publication en tant qu’espace autonome de création. Elle permet l’expérimentation sur place en développant autant le contenu littéraire que l’objet/livre lui-même. Ce moment de recherche laisse place à l’innovation, aux pratiques transversales et aux hybridations.
L’artiste pourra mettre en forme un petit nombre d’exemplaires de son projet duquel il reste l’éditeur tout en profitant d’un soutien technique personnalisé ainsi que des connaissances et des savoir-faire spécialisés. Notre laboratoire contient une presse numérique, des équipements de reliure, de multiples matériaux d’impression et un espace de production propice à l’élaboration des projets.

Richmond Public Art: Call to Artists
The City of Richmond Public Art Program is seeking an artist or artist team to create a
legacy public artwork in Minoru Park. The public artwork will serve to create a sense of
arrival at the north-east entrance to Minoru Park located at 6131 Bowling Green Road.
This is a two-stage open artist call. Following review of the submissions, the Selection
Panel will recommend up to three
shortlisted artists. Shortlisted artists will be invited to
develop concept proposals and attend an interview. An artist fee of $500, plus applicable

THE QUAD PHASE II: STUDENT RESIDENCES AT YORK UNIVERSITY

A. BACKGROUND
Public Art Management, on behalf of FCS Development Corp., is issuing this Request for Credentials (RFC) to all professional artists, as the first stage of a two-stage public art competition for The Quad Phase II student residences project on the campus of York University in Toronto, Canada.
The public art program for The Quad Phase II offers two exciting opportunities:
A Landmark Artwork Commission Opportunity to create a landmark art installation within a significant community open space. This is ideal for an experienced, visionary and reliable artist. The successful candidate will develop a concept that may comprise one of more elements for the “art zone”. The work should engage the public and serve as a community “identifier”. While situated on the York University campus, this location will serve as a community hub, a gathering and socializing space for students, workers, residents in the surrounding community and visitors alike.
A Mentorship Opportunity for an artist to develop and explore their interest in public art. The successful candidate will learn about public art “from the ground up” by direct engagement with experienced public art managers. The mentoring opportunity will be an opportunity for new artist voices to be nurtured including those from equity-seeking and/or Indigenous communities. The candidate should be an artist who has interest in but no experience or knowledge of public art processes.
B. ELIGIBILITY
This is a two-stage, open competition for professional artists born or living in Canada.
Artist: Per the Canada Council’s guidelines, a professional artist is defined as someone who:
Has specialized art training (not necessarily in academic institutions)
is recognized as a professional by their peers (artists working in the same artistic tradition)
has a history of public exhibitions as an artist
has produced an independent body of work
C. OPPORTUNITY 1: LANDMARK ARTWORK COMMISSION:
Three candidates will be identified as Finalists for the Landmark Artwork Commission Opportunity. Finalists will be fully briefed, receive competition guidelines and project information and will be paid an honorarium for their complete and compliant invited submission (to include a design concept and a detailed budget). The Selection Panel, composed of practicing arts professionals and the developer will hear design presentations from each candidate and recommend a winner.
Budget: The total Budget for the Landmark Commission is $300,000. CDN to include: artist fees and administration, travel, engineering, design, supply and fabrication of artwork, insurance, delivery, and installation. The goal is to commission art that is iconic, impactful, durable, and requiring minimal maintenance.
D. OPPORTUNITY 2: MENTORSHIP:
Up to 3 candidates will be Finalists who submit to juried interviews for the Mentorship Opportunity. The goal is to identify an artist who has an emerging interest in exploring the possibilities of working in public art.
Budget: The Mentorship Fee (to be paid in installments) is $25,000. CDN.
HST is over and above these amounts.
E. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
1. LANDMARK ARTWORK COMMISSION:
At this Stage 1, we are inviting all interested artists to submit a single document in pdf format. This document must be labeled with the name and contact information of the artist and must include:
A letter of Interest speaking of your interest in this project
A current CV of the artist
Images of up to a maximum of six (6) past projects/installations/artworks (up to a maximum of 3 images for each project, if necessary) noting the materials, location, commissioning body and project cost;
The names and contact information of two references (preferably related to projects completed within the past 6 years)
Note to all Proponents: Please do not submit concept proposals at this stage.
2. MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITY:
Artists interested in the Mentorship Opportunity should submit:
A letter of Interest explaining how a mentorship program would benefit you
A current CV
Images of recent work illustrating the development of your work over the past 5 years. This should be accompanied by a clear description of the work, the materials used, size and your design intent.

Temporary Public Art: Skate Park Digital Murals
DEADLINE: Sunday, May 30, 2021 by 11:59 p.m. EST.
The City of Mississauga’s Public Art Program invites emerging Mississauga artists or artist teams to submit proposals to create original digital artwork for Mississauga’s Sculpture Court, a multi-use ramp and skateboarding park in downtown Mississauga (300 City Centre Drive).
Artists are asked to propose artwork that considers the park users and engages viewers in a conversation that explores the relationship between urban design/architecture and community. Artwork should engage Mississauga’s residents and skate park users in a dialogue of how they view and interact with the public realm and evoke a sense of community belonging.

481 UNIVERSITY UNITED BLDG – PUBLIC ART COMPETITION
Call to Artists
Davpart Inc., on behalf of 481 Uni Investments Inc., through their public art consultant, Brad Golden + Co, is holding a Two-Stage Competition to select an artist to develop a permanent public artwork as part of their United BLDG project, located at the prominent intersection of the corner of University Avenue and Dundas Street in Downtown Toronto. The project is the tallest heritage façade retention project in North America.
The artwork will be integrated with the glass components of the colonnade lighting (please see attached drawings) and will be based on the theme of “communication”. The selected artwork will recognize the existing, historic, restored carvings on site, designed by Elizabeth Winnifred Wood and carved by Louis Temporale, as well as the previous use of the building as the McLean Hunter Publishing’s original headquarters. Artists are encouraged to conduct their own research to familiarize themselves with the site.
The budget for the completed and installed artwork, not including artist fees, is $120,000 (plus HST). Davpart Inc. will pay for costs related to the production and installation of the artwork up to $120,000. The selected artist will be paid a fee of $50,000 to develop their artwork, to produce any digital files required to print their work onto glass and to oversee printing, production and installation of their work.
Submissions will be reviewed by an independent selection committee convened for this project who will create a list of prequalified proponents. From this prequalified list, the building developer will select of up to seven (7) artists to prepare site-specific design proposals for the designated art site. Shortlisted artists will be paid a $2,500 honourarium (plus HST, if applicable) to create an artwork proposal which they will present to the competition jury. The competition jury will be comprised of the selection committee plus two representatives of the building developer.
Shortlisted artists will be issued a detailed RFP, with complete information about the project. Artist presentations, via teleconference, will take place in the Summer of 2021, specific time and date to be determined.

Est-Nord-Est est un acteur important de l’art actuel en dehors des grands centres, qui promeut la valeur que représente le processus de création dans les pratiques artistiques contemporaines. Le centre est un lieu d’exploration invitant les résident.e.s à investir librement de nouveaux territoires de création, sans qu’un objectif de production prédéterminé ne soit lié à un impératif de diffusion. Son offre de résidences répond à un besoin manifeste des artistes et des auteur.e.s établis et émergents du champ des arts visuels du Québec, du Canada et de l’international, pour lesquels bénéficier d’un contexte entièrement voué à la recherche est essentiel au développement professionnel de leur pratique.
Originairement situé à la rencontre des pratiques contemporaines de la sculpture et celles qui relèvent d’un savoir-faire traditionnel régional, Est-Nord-Est est aujourd’hui ouvert à toutes les disciplines et pratiques en arts visuels (artistes) ainsi qu’aux pratiques de l’écrit dont le travail porte sur des notions, démarches ou enjeux relatifs aux arts visuels actuels (auteur.e.s). Le centre encourage l’expérimentation de nouvelles techniques et méthodologies, ainsi que la réflexion in situ qui émerge du cadre spécifique de la résidence (géographie, contexte rural, lieu de création).
Contexte :
Depuis l’été 2019, Est-Nord-Est accueille les artistes et auteur.e.s dans un nouveau bâtiment qui réunit sous un même toit espaces de travail et de vie. Le projet majeur d’immobilisation réalisé, il désire maintenant se consacrer pleinement au développement et à l’approfondissement de sa mission en tant que centre d’artistes dédié à la recherche et à l’expérimentation, ainsi qu’à la valorisation du processus de création dans les pratiques artistiques actuelles.
L’équipe d’Est-Nord-Est fait tout en son pouvoir pour créer un climat de travail harmonieux. Elle valorise le dialogue et les échanges entre les collègues, en encourageant le partage des expériences, des idées, des connaissances et des expertises. Poste de direction générale :
Sous l’autorité du conseil d’administration, la direction générale d’Est-Nord-Est poursuit le développement de l’organisme dans le respect de sa mission. Elle veille à l’élaboration et à l’implantation des orientations stratégiques adoptées par le conseil et soutient la mission, la vision et les valeurs de l’organisation. Elle s’assure qu’Est-Nord-Est ait les ressources financières, humaines et matérielles nécessaires à ses activités.
Principales responsabilités :
Assurer la direction administrative d’Est-Nord-Est, notamment élaborer les stratégies de financement et effectuer les demandes de subventions
Mettre en œuvre les grandes orientations du centre telles que définies par le conseil d’administration et soutenir la direction artistique dans la réalisation de son mandat
Gérer les ressources humaines, financières et matérielles
Représenter l’organisme
Assurer la mise en œuvre du plan de communication de l’organisme et assurer la qualité des contenus
Compétences requises et aptitudes souhaitées :
Diplôme universitaire de premier cycle dans un programme approprié
Expérience minimale de 3 ans au sein d’un organisme culturel dans un poste de direction
ou expérience appropriée dans le milieu culturel
Bonne connaissance du milieu des arts visuels actuels et/ou des écosystèmes culturels nationaux (structures, réseaux, etc.)
Excellente maîtrise du français écrit et parlé, bonne connaissance de l’anglais
Habiletés à développer et à entretenir des liens de confiance
Habiletés relationnelles et communicationnelles permettant de mobiliser l’équipe et les partenaires
Intérêt à participer à la vie communautaire du centre
Conditions de travail :
Poste de 30h par semaine, 52 semaines par année

The Polygon Gallery, Griffin Art Projects, and Cit internationale des arts join forces, with
the support of The Embassy of France in Canada and the Centre Culturel Canadien /
Canadian Cultural Centre, to launch a curatorial residency program, alternating annually
for four years between
Paris and Vancouver.
The aim of this program is to provide opportunities to develop curatorial projects and
foster cultural exchange in response to contemporary art contexts in France and Western
Canada respectively.
The inaugural program will launch in October 2021, with a three-month residency at the
Cit internationale des arts, in the Marais district of central Paris.
The Residency is open to Canadian curators living in Alberta, British Columbia,
Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon.

Call for Submissions: Associate Indigenous Curator, City of Calgary

Overview
The City of Calgary’s Public Art Program is seeking an Associate Indigenous Curator to play a supporting role to the Indigenous Curator. The Associate Indigenous Curator will focus on implementing opportunities for artists and helping the Indigenous Curator build relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in and around Calgary. This position will work in close collaboration with the Indigenous Curator, the Moh’kinsstis Public Art Guiding Circle and Public Art Program staff.
Those with connection to the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, specifically the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Piikani and Kainai); Îethka Nakoda Wîcastabi First Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw and Wesley First Nations); the Tsuut’ina First Nation; historic Northwest Métis and Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3; and/or Indigenous urban Calgarians, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis who have made Calgary their home are encouraged to apply.
All work to be performed in Calgary and area.
The contract is for 5 months at 35 hours per week for a consultant fee of $21,000 (not including GST), all inclusive.

Selection process
All eligible submissions are reviewed by a selection panel consisting of members of the Moh’kinsstis Public Art Guiding Circle and a representative from the Public Art Program.
The selection panel will shortlist applicants based on how their submissions meet the application criteria listed above.
Three references will be requested for short-listed curators. References should include at least two work-related contacts, preferably a supervisor, but can also include a community leader, such as an Elder. References should include company name, current contact name, including current telephone number, address and email address. The City reserves the right to contact references without prior notification. References from City of Calgary staff members will not be counted as part of the required references.
Shortlisted curators will be invited to an in-person / online interview with the selection panel. The same evaluation criteria will be used as in the shortlisting stage.

Ar(n)t Write is an artist-run public platform for artists to share casual style writings. The
aim of the platform is to reinforce artistic communities and encourage a variety of writing
approaches about art-making.
All selected submissions will be posted on Ar(n)t Write website and instagram page. A
portion of selected submissions will be printed as part of the Ar(n)t Write Zine.

AdMare, centre d’artistes en art actuel des Îles-de-la-Madeleine lance un appel à projets destiné aux commissaires indépendant·e·s en art actuel du Québec et des Maritimes, en collaboration avec la Société de conservation des Îles-de-la-Madeleine (SCÎM).
Le·la commissaire sélectionné·e réalisera une résidence de 2 à 3 semaines à AdMare en octobre 2021 et assurera la direction artistique d’une programmation spécifique de résidences d’artistes et de diffusion de projets en art actuel mettant en valeur les sites naturels protégés par la SCÎM.
Cette programmation s’inscrit dans le contexte d’une tradition d’événements-résidences organisés par AdMare afin de créer un lieu d’échange entre les collectivités artistique et insulaire des Îles-de-la-Madeleine et d’ailleurs (faire avec, 2013; Le Chant des pistes, 2016; SEULS et ENSEMBLE, 2021). De pair avec le centre, les commissaires et les artistes proposent des projets dont la démarche contextuelle, relationnelle, performative, furtive, infiltrante ou éphémère favorise la rencontre avec les communautés locales et le territoire.
Dans cette perspective, le·la commissaire est invité·e à concevoir une programmation qui pose un regard attentionné et approfondi sur la nature, de l’infiniment petit à l’infiniment grand, et qui permet de tisser des liens entre celle-ci et l’humain par une approche bienveillante.
Au cours de sa résidence, le·la commissaire précisera son approche commissariale et sélectionnera de quatre à huit artistes ou collectifs qui seront accueilli·e·s – chacun·e à leur tour, sur une période d’une à deux années – en résidence à AdMare pendant un mois. Les projets des artistes seront réalisés au cours de cette même période et devront avoir pour ancrage le vaste réseau d’aires naturelles protégées par la SCÎM. L’organisme fournira un accompagnement en ce qui a trait à la biodiversité des milieux protégés et à leurs repères écologiques ou géographiques d’intérêt, en plus d’offrir une tournée de reconnaissance et une cartographie des lieux.
Conditions d’accueil et accompagnement :
Volet 1 – Séjour en résidence du·de la commissaire – 2 à 3 semaines
– Cachet de résidence de 4 000 $ (incluant l’écriture du projet de commissariat, la sélection des artistes et la corédaction de deux demandes de subvention);
– Frais de déplacements jusqu’à 750 $;
– Hébergement sur place pendant toute la durée du séjour;
– Soutien artistique et logistique (accompagnement dans l’exploration du réseau artistique local et de la communauté);
– La SCÎM offrira au·à la commissaire une visite de ses sites et de la documentation à leur sujet.
Volet 2 (conditionnel à l’obtention de financement) – Direction artistique et réalisation du projet
– Cachet pour la direction artistique de l’ensemble de la programmation (suivi avec les artistes, écriture de textes, etc.) de 4 000 $;
– Soutien à la gestion financière et logistique et à la promotion de la programmation;
– Hébergement et coordination de l’accueil des artistes;
– Documentation photographique des projets;
– La SCÎM offrira aux artistes une visite de ses sites et de la documentation à leur sujet.
Volet 3 (conditionnel à l’obtention de financement) – Publication
– Édition d’une publication au terme du projet.

– Votre dossier devra comprendre, en un seul fichier pdf :
● Une description du projet de commissariat proposé en lien avec les mandats d’AdMare et de la SCÎM et un texte de démarche déclinant vos axes de recherche privilégiés (700 mots);
● Votre curriculum vitae (maximum 3 pages);
● Une biographie (150 mots);
● Veuillez indiquer si vous souhaitez procéder à la sélection des artistes par un appel de projets ou par invitation. Dans ce dernier cas, vous pouvez fournir une liste des artistes pressenti·e·s;
● La description des images fournies dans le dossier visuel.

Toutes les personnes ayant soumis un dossier recevront un accusé de réception. La comité de sélection sera composé de la directrice artistique, d’un membre du comité de programmation d’AdMare et d’une représentante de la SCÎM. Le·la commissaire sélectionné·e sera contacté·e au début du mois de juillet 2021.

The Curatorial Incubator, v.17: On the Other Side – It’s Heaven

What a year it’s been.
Boredom, loneliness, grief and fear have invaded our waking and dreaming lives. As we near the end of this seemingly endless series of lockdowns, then openings, then lockdowns, then partial openings, ad infinitum, we looking for a break. We want our Incubatees to look to the Vtape holdings and find works that offer a version of heaven. It could be a spiritual vision, or a material one. It could be humourous or deeply serious, committed or skeptical.
Participants in The Curatorial Incubator, v.17: On the Other Side – It’s Heaven will have an opportunity to hone their curatorial skills in the media arts in a number of important ways: attending specialized workshops conducted by arts professionals; conducting independent research using the rich resources available through Vtape; writing a curatorial essay for their program of selected titles, with invaluable editorial assistance provided by arts professionals; and, finally, presenting their curated program to the public.
If your proposal is selected for production, you will receive fees for both curating and writing and a budget to cover the screening fees for the titles that are included in your program.
Research phase (June – July 2021) includes:
workshops conducted by professionals specializing in media arts,
free access to the vast research facilities on site at Vtape, with over 6000 titles by 900+ artists and over 2500 articles on video art, and
extensive access to the Vtape on-line preview resource available only to curators and authorized researchers.
Presentation phase (September – October 2021) includes:
an exhibition of all the curated programs with an introduction by the curator, and
a fully illustrated catalogue of all the programs with curatorial essays.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: TUESDAY, JUNE 1, 2021
Proposals must include:
an up-to-date c.v.;
a statement of intention (1 page in total) that outlines your interest in video and media artwork and why you want to be part of The Curatorial Incubator, v.17 – On the Other Side – It’s Heaven.
NOTE: your statement of intention does NOT have to include a list of titles you would include. Rather it should try to clarify your overall area of interest. You will have lots of time to do your research to find the titles you want to include if you are selected for this program.

And don’t worry; you won’t be held to your original proposal but keep in mind that the jury will need to get an idea of what kind of work you are going to be searching for. Surprises are to be expected along the way. That’s what research is all about.
