Le 3e impérial, centre d’essai en art actuel, invite les artistes à proposer des projets dans le contexte du cycle d’exploration Trancher dans le vif du Temps : infuser / diffuser. Des projets qui infusent les reliefs du Temps par des actes créatifs, engagés et engageants. Des projets qui positionnent la figure et le rôle de l’artiste dans l’actualité glocale et critique de notre temps (enjeux écologiques, nature menacée, migrations humaines, consommation et développement technologique effrénés, rapports intergénérationnels, crise de sens, crise de l’avenir etc.), tout en se reliant à l’histoire, à la vie et à l’environnement de la collectivité où ils prennent place, soit Granby (Québec, Canada) et ses environs.
Ouverte à la diversité des pratiques de l’art actuel, la sélection des projets vise à refléter une pluralité d’horizons culturels et identitaires afin de contribuer à enrichir l’ancrage et la portée de l’art dans les communautés. Nous accueillons les propositions d’artistes émergents, à mi-carrière ou établis.
L’artiste habite les circonstances que le présent lui offre,
afin de transformer le contexte de sa vie (son rapport au monde sensible ou conceptuel)

3e impérial, centre d’essai en art actuel est voué à une exploration interdisciplinaire et contextuelle des arts visuels prenant pour assises la quotidienneté et la proximité avec les communautés. Ses activités – création, production, diffusion, pensée et écriture critiques, édition, résidence d’artistes/chercheurs – se fondent sur la collaboration et la rencontre de savoirs et d’expériences pour soutenir et mettre en œuvre des projets d’art public qui s’infusent et se diffusent dans des particularités territoriales et humaines.

Quoi : Par le biais d’une appropriation du compte Instagram de l’organisme, développer une œuvre qui répond aux particularités et aux contraintes de la plateforme.
Nous sommes à la recherche d’un projet qui:
― en accord avec la mission de Dazibao, se concentre sur la diffusion d’images fixes ou en mouvement reflétant des enjeux de société actuels;
― aborde de manière critique et innovante la plateforme Instagram comme moyen de création et de diffusion;
― s’engage pour la durée de la résidence à alimenter quotidiennement le compte Instagram de l’organisme.
Le projet sera intégré à la programmation 2018-2019 de Dazibao et bénéficiera du soutien financier et promotionnel applicables à nos activités régulières.

OPTICA présente annuellement un programme varié d’expositions, de conférences et de rencontres avec les artistes et s’investit dans la production de commissariats d’expositions en relation avec les thématiques développées par le centre. L’ensemble de ces programmes propose une réflexion critique sur l’actualité de l’art, soutenue par une activité éditoriale.
Le centre comporte deux espaces d’exposition et offre une aide technique professionnelle en galerie. Les artistes et les commissaires sont invités à déposer des projets pour la programmation régulière en galerie. La nature des projets est soumise au comité de programmation qui recommande leur réalisation.
OPTICA verse des droits d’exposition aux artistes et aux commissaires selon les barèmes recommandés par le RAAV et CARFAC.

La Galerie Forest City (FCG) est un centre d’art autogéré qui encourage l’autonomie artistique et qui est voué à l’excellence des expositions et des événements qu’elle met sur pied. Cet engagement reflète les développements récents survenus en matière de production culturelle. La FCG sollicite des propositions innovatrices de la part des artistes et des conservateurs ou conservatrices relevant de toutes les disciplines et de tous les niveaux de carrière, l’accent étant mis sur les pratiques et les artistes émergents.

New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme Off The Beat(en) Track for consideration in New Adventures in Sound Art’s 2019 programming.
A year ago, NAISA staff and its board of directors decided to move the organization from Toronto to the Village of South River, ON – very much Off the Beaten Track.
For its 2019 programming, NAISA is interested in submissions that address the ideas related to the theme Off The Beat(en) Track and creative ways that this can be shared.
Preference in programming will be given to works that respond in some way to the theme Off The Beat(en) Track. Individual interpretations or variations on the theme are encouraged, but should be realized with sound as the primary component. NAISA would also like to encourage artists to submit works on the theme for performance, interactive installation exhibit, audio-visual screening, radio or internet broadcast, telematics, VR/gaming, mobile experiences and any other emerging or alternative formats that include sound as a primary element. Please complete in full the online submission form and upload your audio by midnight on June 4, 2018. Note: there is a $5 submission fee in order to defray the cost of processing the submissions. All works chosen for presentation will receive an artist fee. Only those artists being considered for presentation will be contacted.

CALL to ARTISTS: VISUALEYEZ 2018: forgiveness
The 19th annual Visualeyez festival of performance art happens from 24 – 30 September 2018 in the downtown core of Edmonton, Alberta, exploring on the curatorial theme of forgiveness.
Visualeyez takes place over a period of seven days and it is required that all invited artists are able to attend for the entire length of the festival. Artists experience the work of other artists; engage in discussion groups, meals and other activities that enhance the work of individual artists and the performance art community within Canada and beyond. The public performances of the festival will be truncated over three days – Thursday to Sunday, 27 – 30 September. The time prior to thus will serve as a residency of festival artists and engagements to develop and enhance works in a rich, critical environment.
Latitude 53 will invite artists to Edmonton to explore issues around the curatorial theme of forgiveness and this curatorial thematic will afford new interactions between communities and audiences. We are seeking works that explore the fragility of the human ego and expand upon the positive nature of gestures of moving beyond and living, reconciliation, and a healing. The submissions should connect with Edmonton and Alberta residents and have resonance within an international dialogue. The festival pays a CARFAC artist fee, two-way travel and accommodations for all artists.
Proposals should include: a CV; artist statement; a detailed description of the work you wish to present, or explore; and support material all sent as individual pdfs. You can include images, video, print or digital documentation of your work or as links, pdf, or image files
The deadline for submission is Friday, 18 May 2018, 2300h MST.
Artists shall be contacted by June regarding the status of their proposals.

OTTAWA INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL SEEKS SUBMISSIONS FOR 2018
The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF), North America’s leading animation film festival, is now accepting film entries for competition in 2018! Entries are due May 25 and there is no entry fee.
>From September 26-30, Ottawa will once again play host to the animation universe; a hub of inventive, mesmerizing, and provocative art. OIAF invites animators from around the globe to submit their recent work in the following major categories:
Animated Feature.
Narrative Animated Short.
Non-Narrative Animated Short.
Student Animation.
Commissioned Animation (series, commercials, music videos).
Young Audiences – Preschool, Ages 6-12.
VR Animation.
OIAF18 features a brand new VR animation category acknowledging and celebrating the exhilarating and pioneering work being done in Virtual Reality.
In addition to category prizes, submissions will also be considered for a variety of craft and other awards including the Festival’s Academy Award recognized Grand Prize for Short Animation. In addition, there are National competitions for Canadian animators and a Canadian student competition.
“Well, it’s that time again when Ottawa is pleasantly bombarded with a feast of animation wonders from around the globe,” says Chris Robinson, OIAF Artistic Director, “This is always an exciting time for us as we watch all the new submissions and slowly start to see the festival’s identity for the year being formed. We’re particularly excited about the brand new VR animation competition. It’s a testament to the quality of work being done in this new medium that we’ve decided it warranted a competition. Viewing and judging the VR entries will also require us to engage these projects in a whole new manner (goggles and interactivity!).”
Each year the OIAF receives more than 2,000 entries that are reviewed by the Festival’s programming team. Approximately 150 films will be chosen for Official Competition and Out-of-Competition Showcase screenings. During OIAF18, juries comprised of animation professionals, media and local kids will sit with the audience to judge the festival competition screenings.

AKA supports the creation and development of artist driven initiatives and emerging practices that speak to, reflect and encourage dialogue in our culturally diverse communities. This includes work in all media by local, national and international artists. Our venues consist of a street-level gallery, billboard and multi-use screening and performance event space; we also source off-site locations for site-specific projects.
AKA accepts submissions on an ongoing basis for project/exhibition proposals that consider AKA’s history and setting.
Support for selected projects/exhibitions includes: curatorial assistance, shipping, insurance, installation/strike assistance, promotion, documentation and the potential development of accompanying programming suited to the form of the project. AKA pays artist fees at or (when possible) above the CARFAC national average.

Hamilton Artists Inc. Call for Submissions
Exhibition Platforms, Special Projects, Film Festival and Residency Program
Hamilton Artists Inc. is seeking dynamic proposals from artists, collectives and curators at various stages of their careers and from across disciplines for its exhibition platforms, which include the Cannon Gallery; James Gallery; Cannon Project Wall; and ArcelorMittal Dofasco Courtyard. The Inc. is mandated to exhibit a range of disciplines and career levels and to exhibit a cross-section of artists from local, regional and national communities. New in 2018, pending funding, we would also like to encourage the submission of “special projects.” Special Projects may include, but are not limited to, independent projects diverse in nature that may happen at the gallery or off-site and might manifest themselves through happenings, print materials, digital platforms, screenings, workshops or other forms of public presentation or intervention. The Inc. also hosts a rotating artist in residence program in partnership with the Cotton Factory and Photophobia, a film festival dedicated to contemporary moving images in partnership with the art Gallery of Hamilton.
Selections criteria are informed by the Inc.’s mandated objectives. As an artist-run centre, the Inc. is interested in works/projects that have potential impact, push boundaries and engage with critical, conceptual and/or experimental contexts from a diverse range of perspectives and voices. The Inc. supports and encourages submissions showcasing artists and curators most recent endeavors as well as works that incite conversation and promote a range of intersectional narratives. We are committed to providing a platform for risk-taking and creating an inclusive space to explore expanded art practices. Photophobia Contemporary Moving Image Festival

Photophobia is the 12th annual festival of short-format contemporary media, film, video and moving image hosted in partnership between the Art Gallery of Hamilton and Hamilton Artists Inc. Established in 1999, Photophobia was Hamilton’s first film and video festival dedicated to the development of experimental time-based media at a time when there were no such platforms in the Hamilton community. Not confined by restrictions or themes, Photophobia is a free festival series presented under the cover of night in the Irving Zucker Sculpture Garden at the Art Gallery of Hamilton and the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Courtyard at Hamilton Artists Inc. in August.

The Hamilton Artists Inc. Cotton Factory Residency Program is a 3-month rotating artist residency for Inc. members. The residency provides a valuable opportunity for artists from a wide range of disciplines and career levels to build their practice. Participating artists are encouraged to use their time to experiment, develop new ideas and learn new skills in addition to forming meaningful ties with their fellow artists in residence, Cotton Factory tenants, and Inc. members. Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) Submission Guidelines
Exhibition proposals are accepted throughout the year and reviews are ongoing. Selection is carried out over a period of time through studio visits and correspondence with artists and curators in whom the gallery has an interest. Those interested in proposing their work to SAAG are asked to include with their submission: a curriculum vitae, an artist statement and/or letter of intent, a wide selection of images, and other relevant support material. The gallery will not return your submission – please do not send original artworks or valuable materials. Given the large number of submissions received by the gallery, formal letters of reply will only be issued to proposals of immediate interest.
Exhibitions are generally six weeks in length. An opening is held to introduce the work to the public. Artists are also invited to give an illustrated lecture on their work in conjunction with the University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Art during the academic year. Other special events (workshops, panel discussions, etc.) are considered on a case-by-case basis.
The Southern Alberta Art Gallery pays CARFAC fees, shipping and insurance, and often seeks funding to produce catalogues for the exhibition. All publications, including our quarterly newsletter GALLERY (which discusses and reproduces work by exhibiting artists along with other programming), are exchanged with other institutions in Canada and abroad.
The Southern Alberta Art Gallery fosters the work of contemporary artists who challenge boundaries, encourages broad public engagement and promotes awareness and exploration of artistic expression. Our work extends to local, national and international communities.

La 12e édition des Rencontres Internationales Sciences & Cinémas (RISC) se déroulera du 23 au 28 novembre 2018 dans différents lieux du centre-ville de Marseille.
Le festival propose de découvrir une programmation de courts, moyens et longs métrages (documentaire, fiction, expérimental, art vidéo, animation…) issus d’une sélection internationale, et dont le thème et/ou la démarche témoignent d’une forte proximité (ou affinité) avec des champs de la recherche scientifique (mathématiques, informatique, physique, chimie, biologie, sciences du vivant, sciences et techniques, épistémologie des sciences, médecine, environnement, sciences économiques et politiques, histoire, architecture, urbanisme, sociologie, anthropologie, ethnologie, linguistique, sciences de l’éducation, etc.), en présence des cinéastes et de chercheur.e.s invité.e.s à venir rencontrer le public après chaque projection.
Nous proposerons une section compétitive avec un Prix du jury (court-métrage et moyen-long métrage), un Prix du Public court métrage, un Prix du Jeune public et un Prix des lycéens.

Performensk is a first edition of the festival which will present different kinds of performative art, especially performance art, alternative theatre and sound art. It will happen during 29.6.-1.7.2018 in Minsk, Republic of Belarus. The theme of the festival’s first edition is OPENING (projects addressing the topic will be prioritized). We want to introduce the opening theme through the content of selected projects as well as through multigenre focus of the festival. Our aim is to bring to Belarus contemporary young artists who will present various approaches to art creation to the Belarusian public.
Festival Performensk is happening in the Cultural Centre Korpus – an independent, open multicultural space. Korpus focuses on the development of the contemporary culture, supports experimental and interdisciplinary projects.
This year it is possible to apply to the festival in three categories:

Ceci comprend les expérimentations en art vidéo, animation, arts numériques, essai, documentaire, vidéo danse et fiction. Nos actions concernent les œuvres actuelles autant que les œuvres historiques dont nous favorisons la reconnaissance et la compréhension.
En développement depuis 1971, notre catalogue compte aujourd’hui plus de 2 000 œuvres réalisées par plus de 800 artistes, activistes et citoyen.nes engagé.es, majoritairement québécois.es. Ceci en fait l’une des plus importantes collections canadiennes d’art vidéo.
Cette résidence de recherche et de commissariat vise à multiplier les points de vue sur cette collection et à stimuler la réflexion sur l’image en mouvement. Nous invitons ainsi les artistes, chercheurs et commissaires à approfondir un pan de recherche à partir des œuvres de notre catalogue. Le projet sélectionné pourra porter sur des questions thématiques, formelles ou historiques, et pourra se concentrer sur le corpus d’un ou plusieurs artistes. Dans le cadre de cette résidence, nous nous attendons à ce qu’une programmation d’œuvres de notre catalogue soit élaborée et qu’un essai soit rédigé par la personne sélectionnée. La programmation vidéo sera présentée dans le cadre de notre saison 2019-2020 et sera disponible en ligne, accompagnée de l’essai, sur Vithèque.com
Un comité de sélection évaluera les propositions sur les bases de la pertinence par rapport à notre collection, la complémentarité par rapport à notre programmation, ainsi que la rigueur de la proposition. Les projets étudiants ne seront pas acceptés.
Vidéographe reconnaît la richesse de la diversité culturelle, sexuelle, identitaire et linguistique québécoise. Nous encourageons ainsi les personnes issues de groupes traditionnellement sous-représentés, de minorités ou de groupes marginalisés à proposer des projets.
La personne retenue recevra un montant forfaitaire de 2 000$. La résidence, d’une durée d’un à trois mois, est prévue pour le printemps 2019. Vidéographe assumera les frais de transport et d’hébergement pour une période d’un mois aux personnes ne résidant pas à Montréal. Le travail pourra également être effectué en ligne, via Vithèque. Nous accompagnerons les personnes sélectionnées dans leurs recherches dans le catalogue.

Atelier Topaz – résidence Opasatika, Ontario, Canada
Le lieu
Situés au cœur de la forêt boréale, les Ateliers Topaz sont à la fois un lieu de retraite et un centre de création pour artistes, toutes disciplines confondues. L’endroit parfait pour la réflexion, l’évasion. Le groupement d’édifices fait 900 mètres carrés et repose sur 14 hectares face à la route Transcanadienne. Il donne sur un étang de deux hectares. Topaz c’est la « Route 66 » dans le nord de l’Ontario. L’endroit, modeste et nostalgique, rappelle aussi les grandes épopées de la colonisation francophone de l’Ontario. Ces studios de création ou cette résidence d’artistes, endroit idéal pour les arts visuels, sont situés au centre du Canada, à mi-chemin entre l’Atlantique et le Pacifique, là où les étoiles deviennent les topazes de la nuit.
Ce qu’on offre
D’abord l’espace et, l’espace de travail déterminés selon les besoins de l’artiste. Les espaces polyvalents permettent d’y faire de la peinture, de la sculpture, de l’installation, etc. L’atelier de menuiserie, le Bar à clou, est équipé des outils de base. Un magasin d’objets trouvés est disponible autant pour l’inspiration que pour l’utilisation dans une œuvre. Le peintre apporte ses pinceaux, le musicien son instrument et l’écrivain son ordi.
Les personnes qui séjournent aux Ateliers Topaz jouissent de l’accès à la cuisine et sont responsables de préparer leurs repas. Toutefois Laurent peut aussi leur cuisiner de petits plats typiquement canadiens-français aux besoins ou aux désirs. Topaz possède deux suites avec lit double et une chambre avec lit simple. Chacune possède sa salle de toilette avec douche. Ces installations évoquent admirablement le style des années 1960. Pour la baignade, le Lac des Cœurs se situe à deux kilomètres à l’est. Pour le canotage ou la pèche, la rivière Opasatika est deux kilomètres à l’ouest. Pour se déplacer, il y a de vieux vélos ou la marche. Pour un frais très raisonnable, votre hôte peut aussi vous conduire ou organiser un déplacement vers Kapuskasing à l’est ou vers Hearst à l’ouest. Les matériaux d’artistes ne sont pas disponibles dans la région. Il est donc important de faire vos achats avant votre séjour, à moins que vous travailliez avec des matériaux que l’on peut se procurer dans des magasins ordinaires ou même en nature.

The Corporation of the City of Kingston invites expressions of interest from artists or artist teams interested in working with the City of Kingston to develop an artwork for the recently rejuvenated Victoria Park. The park acts as a community hub with many recreational amenities. The proposed work is intended to enhance the experience of the park, as well as be fully accessible.
Artists who work in a diverse range of mediums as well as identify as emerging, mid-career and established artists are encouraged to apply. This public art call is held in accordance with the City of Kingston Public Art Policy.
An artwork proposal is not requested at this time. Through this RFI process, the City of Kingston will identify up to five artists or artist led teams who will be invited to propose works to the Jury, City of Kingston Staff and the broader Kingston community. There will be a community engagement component in the selection of this work in accordance with the City of Kingston’s Community Engagement Framework.

Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is now accepting applications from national and international curators for its Curator-in-Residence Program. Beginning January 2019, the successful candidate will participate in a one-year fully subsidized live/work residency as part of Bemis Center’s acclaimed Artist-in-Residence Program. S/he will originate and present three exhibitions and related public programs inclusive of local and national artists. The Curator-in-Residence will work alongside residency and curatorial staff and actively contribute to the overall vision of Bemis Center’s renowned exhibition program. As a residency, the Curator-in-Residence will have the space and freedom to work on research and curatorial projects independent of his/her exhibitions at the Bemis.
Competitive applicants will possess a strong knowledge of international contemporary art and a genuine interest in researching and responding to cultural production in Omaha and the region. The Curator-in-Residence is part of the cultural fabric of the city, serving as a professional resource for local artists and arts professionals, and as an ambassador of Bemis Center in the community. S/he will be an integral member of Bemis Center’s Artist-in-Residence Program, stimulating intellectual discourse surrounding contemporary art practice through studio visits, knowledge-sharing workshops, and other organized programs with fellow artists-in-residence.
Reporting to the Program Director, the Curator-in-Residence is a full-time temporary position that will work closely with the Exhibition Program team. S/he will be involved in all curatorial and administrative aspects of organizing three exhibitions over the one-year residency. Exhibitions should be original, conceptually rigorous, and exemplify the true breadth and experimentation currently defining contemporary art. The 2019 exhibition dates are: March 21–June 15, July 11–September 21, and November 21, 2019–February 15, 2020.
Duties include, but are not limited to: research, artist and donor relations, exhibition design and installation, writing/editing of scholarly texts and didactics, budgeting, conceptualizing and leading exhibition-related public programs, and tours.
The Curator-in-Residence studio is for single occupancy only; Bemis Center is unable to accommodate partners, children, and pets at this time.

Humber Galleries seeks a Curator in Residence to lead the research, planning, coordination, and evaluation of exhibition programming across our two locations in 2018/2019. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the annual exhibition program including partner and guest curated exhibitions and for curating two to four exhibitions which:
engage multiple publics,
support Humber’s polytechnic educational mission, and
present contemporary art in Etobicoke
Reporting to and in close collaboration with Curator Alissa Firth-Eagland, the Curator in Residence will contribute to the overall development of Humber Galleries’ 2018/2019 programming and its relationship to polytechnic learning. The Curator in Residence will provide strategic operational and administrative support to the Curator and perform other duties as required.
Collaboration and drawing upon the skills of the team will be an integral part of this role in order to foster meaningful links between exhibitions, education programs, communications, and the local context. The Curator in Residence is based in two locations with distinct communities and identities, requiring a balance of collective, consultative, and autonomous work. Shifting between self-direction and teamwork is critical to success. This includes pursuing supervisory feedback at key intervals; initiating programming meetings with staff, artists, and students; and conducting independent research.
Along with Work Studies and other staff, they will coordinate all aspects of exhibitions: timelines, research, contracts, loan documentation, transportation of artwork, detailed installation and strike plans, and budget adherence. They will lead by example and offer mentorship to Work Studies by delegating support tasks and following up on progress. This includes providing guidance, fostering collaborative idea generation, and modelling problem solving.
Qualifications:
Masters in Curatorial Practice or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Proactive communication and interpersonal skills with all types of people
Deep knowledge of Indigenous art, protocols, and Elder teachings or an Aboriginal Studies certificate
Broad awareness of a variety of visual arts media, materials, and techniques

Humber Galleries are situated on the traditional territories of the Ojibwe Anishinabe people in Adobigok, meaning “Place of the Alders” in the Ojibwe language. This region encompasses several present day First Nation communities including families from the Otter, Turtle, and Amik (Beaver) clans.
Humber Galleries are part of the Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. Humber’s polytechnic model is the “third way” between the university and the trade college; it blends the creation of new knowledge and the solving of real world problems. Because we are located within a polytechnic environment, Humber Galleries is a space where contemporary art and polytechnic learning come together and influence each other. Humber’s core values of creativity, innovation, problem-solving, adaptability, and collaboration guide our mandate. Our two physical spaces are accessible sites of social, political, educational, philosophical, and quantitative inquiry: North Space (North Campus) and L Space (Lakeshore Campus). We are an active collaborator in the social and educational fabric of Humber College, our neighbourhood, and the contemporary art discipline.

Call for Expressions of Interest from Canadian Curators & Curatorial Teams :: Curatorial Assessment of the Edmonton Public Art Collection (Phase 1)
The Edmonton Arts Council, on behalf of the City of Edmonton, seeks a Canadian Curator or Curatorial Team to undertake the first phase in an assessment of the City of Edmonton Public Art Collection.
The Edmonton Arts Council has embarked upon an in-depth assessment of its public art and conservation department activities and priorities. The multi-phased approach will culminate in a comprehensive Collections Management Policy that will guide future development and maintenance of the City of Edmonton Public Art Collection.
The Curatorial Survey and Report (Phase 1) will form a comprehensive portrait of the collection, its cultural and material value, as well as place within the larger continuum of Canadian art history.
The completed assessment will provide an objective analysis of the quality, depth and significance of the works in the collection and provide a framework for future direction.
This multi-phased project includes:
A survey of the collection & Summary Report (Phase 1)
A Collection Development Plan (Phase 2)
