Nuit Blanche Ottawa dévoile un nouveau  thème dramatique
et lance un appel aux artistes, à l’échelle internationale!
Ottawa (ON) le 16 février 2012  – Le thème de la prochaine Nuit Blanche Ottawa est officiellement lancé : « La vie est belle /Life is Beautiful ». Tout artiste d’Ottawa ou d’ailleurs, peu importe sa discipline, pourra proposer de nouveaux projets excitants reliés à ce thème par le biais de cet appel de propositions en cours lancé officiellement aujourd’hui.
Aux dires de Stefan St-Laurent, commissaire invité de cette première édition, l’événement sera « une manifestation passionnée de nos rêves et espoirs collectifs, et rassemblera divers artistes qui sauront interpréter de façon unique, la beauté et la dignité de la vie humaine. Ce sera définitivement une expérience émouvante et inspirante pour toute personne impliquée! » À l’heure d’incertitudes politiques et sociales, Nuit Blanche Ottawa fait appel aux artistes afin de présenter des œuvres renouant avec la vie et célébrant l’esprit indestructible de l’être humain.
Ayant lieu le 22 septembre 2012 au Marché By et dans les régions du quartier Hintonburg, Nuit Blanche Ottawa collaborera avec plus de 30 galeries, musées, festivals, organisations et ambassades; et est sur le point de devenir le plus grand événement artistique collectif de l’histoire d’Ottawa. Grâce à des événements, des installations et des expositions se passant à l’intérieur comme à l’extérieur, et se déroulant pendant toute une nuit, on a l’intention de démontrer au monde entier à quel point la vie artistique à Ottawa peut être différente, animée et unique!
Le commissaire invité, Stefan St-Laurent, auprès des commissaires Lainie Towell (les arts de la rue), et Megan Smith (les arts visuels), feront la sélection de plus de 100 artistes et artistes de performance qui participeront à ce colossal événement multidisciplinaire. L’équipe de commissaires retiendra moins cinq artistes locaux ou internationaux (voire plus) afin de présenter des installations à grande échelle et des performances pendant toute la nuit.
Nous encourageons tout spécialement les artistes émergents et établis de la région d’Ottawa à soumettre des projets, car nous désirons que la première édition de Nuit Blanche Ottawa fasse plein feux sur l’incroyable ressource de talents provenant de nos communautés culturelles, aussi diverses que vibrantes. La date de tombée pour la soumission de propositions provenant d’artistes et de collectifs d’artistes est le 2 avril 2012. On trouvera une copie de l’appel aux artistes en pièce jointe.
La vie sera sans doute belle le 22 septembre prochain alors qu’Ottawa se fera l’hôtesse de sa première Nuit Blanche!

Appel à projets: Génération dissémination

Appel à projets:
C’est naturel pour un artiste de vouloir marquer l’histoire, d’être reconnu et enregistré pour son travail. En revanche, pour un artiste de participer à l’écriture de l’histoire en général est un objectif différent. La production de la documentation de l’art, et de la documentation comme art, sont des pratiques qui dialoguent et se rapportent au reportage journalistique. Le choix de médium et des méthodes de distribution de la documentation de l’art déterminent sa trajectoire vers le monde et l’avenir. Le rapport entre la documentation et son sujet est plus compliqué que jamais: une installation est diffusée par livestream, l’art en ligne laisse sa trace numérique, les activités quotidiennes sont documentées comme une performance vidéo. Comment est-ce que les méthodes de documentation et distribution de l’art pourraient affecter l’écrit de l’histoire marquée d’aujourd’hui? Comment est-ce que l’histoire d’aujourd’hui sera lue demain?
Nous cherchons des propositions d’artistes utilisant les médiums (mais pas limité à) tel la vidéo, le film, l’art interactif, l’art en ligne, la performance et/ou l’installation. Nous demandons aux artistes de proposer une œuvre à plusieurs niveaux incluant un geste « original », et la documentation de ou par ce geste. Le lieu d’exécution du geste original peut être exécuté hors de l’espace de la galerie (ex: une installation à site spécifique, une performance privée, un endroit géographique éloigné) ; ils doivent toutefois être exécutés durant le temps d’exposition. La documentation de ce geste sera produite par l’artiste et montée dans la galerie avant le terme de l’exposition. Les projets proposés doivent considérer le format de l’exposition. L’usage de la documentation devrait être un aspect central du travail. Pour plus d’information, vous pouvez vous adresser au contact indiqué ci-dessous.
L’exposition est commissionnée par Maggie Flynn pour le programme de mentorat de Le Labo, sous la tutelle d’Alissa Firth-Eagland. Le Labo (www.lelabo.ca) a pour mission de produire et diffuser des projets francophones en arts médiatiques et pratiques interdisciplinaires. Ce projet acceptera des propositions d’artistes francophones et non-francophones. L’exposition se tiendra en avril 2012. Les frais d’artistes et les coûts raisonnables de transport seront payés.

Appel aux artistes en arts visuels
Le Centre culturel franco‐manitobain vous invite à soumettre une proposition d’exposition en arts visuels pour la période de programmation allant d’août 2012 à août 2013.
À noter : L’utilisation du masculin à pour but d’alléger le texte et désigne à la fois les hommes et les femmes sans discrimination.

Le Centre culturel franco‐manitobain abrite une galerie d’art depuis sa construction en 1974. Celle‐ci occupe 1 550 pieds carrés au rez‐de‐chaussée de l’édifice, au cœur du lieu public. Au cours des années, la Galerie du CCFM a présenté plusieurs expositions importantes pour initier la communauté francophone du Manitoba à une culture visuelle. Le Centre culturel franco‐manitobain est présentement à la recherche de soumissions pour des expositions en arts visuels, pour la période de programmation allant d’août 2012 à août 2013. Tout artiste professionnel ayant terminé sa formation de base, ayant pratiqué son art au moins un an depuis la fin de ses études, et ayant à son actif un corps d’œuvres pour exposition est invité à remettre sa soumission pour une exposition dans la Galerie.
Les soumissions devront obligatoirement inclure:

•  une lettre d’intention (indiquez clairement le nom du projet proposé et son contexte de présentation);
•  une description détaillée du projet;
•  le matériel d’appui et le formulaire de liste des œuvres dûment rempli;
•  un résumé de la philosophie sous‐jacente à votre œuvre;
•  un curriculum vitae et une biographie à jour, comprenant une liste des expositions et l’expérience pertinente;
•  10 à 20 photographies numériques sur CD d’œuvres récentes;
•  les besoins techniques du projet proposé;
•  une enveloppe affranchie pour le retour des documents (si désiré);
•  un dossier de presse (facultatif).
Processus

Les artistes professionnels seront sélectionnés par un jury selon le mérite artistique, tout en respectant le mandat du CCFM, qui est de promouvoir et de parrainer à l’intention de l’ensemble de la population du Manitoba des activités culturelles et artistiques se déroulant en français.
Le CCFM assumera la responsabilité des coûts de base pour la publicité et pour les vernissages d’expositions. Les œuvres devront être encadrées/présentées de façon professionnelle.
Conditions 
Merci de proposer une exposition tenant compte du nombre et de la taille de vos œuvres relative à la superficie globale de la Galerie (1550 pieds carré), les expositions individuelles ou collectives seront acceptées.
Seuls les dossiers complets seront soumis au jury. La présentation de l’exposition est sujette à l’octroi des fonds nécessaires, votre proposition d’exposition peut être déposée au programme de subvention de Conseils des Arts ou toute autre programme de subvention. La Galerie du Centre culturel franco‐manitobain respecte les cachets d’artistes recommandés par CARFAC.

Pour nous soumettre un projet (programmation régulière)
Nous invitons les commissaires et les artistes visuels oeuvrant dans toutes les disciplines à faire parvenir des propositions de projets futurs.
La Galerie d’art Louise et Reuben-Cohen est un organisme sans but lucratif, qui a vu le jour en 1964. Un nouvel édifice a été construit en 1980 spécifiquement pour s’adapter aux besoins spéciaux d’une galerie d’art. Cette galerie d’art institutionnelle intervient au niveau de la présentation, de la documentation et de la diffusion de l’art actuel dans un contexte non discriminatoire à l’égard du sexe, de la langue, de l’origine ethnique, de l’orientation sexuelle et du statut social.

Modalités

•    Il n’y a aucune date de tombée pour recevoir les projets.
•    Des accusés de réceptions seront expédiés pour tous les dossiers reçus. Après étude, les dossiers qui nous intéressent seront conservés en filière pour la programmation future.
•    Veuillez noter que la programmation peut s’étaler sur des périodes de douze à trente-six mois.
•    Nous ne communiquerons qu’avec les artistes ou les commissaires dont la proposition aura été retenue.

La MINUTE VIDÉO FOLIE/CULTURE
Québec, le 31 janvier 2012. Folie/Culture propose à tous — artistes professionnels ou amateurs, membres, proches et intervenants du milieu social — de s’investir dans une expérience de réflexion particulière : réaliser une vidéo d’une minute sur le thème Extase, la vie et autres pratiques extatiques.
À travers la recherche d’un sens à la vie, les réponses viennent indifféremment de la raison pure ou des dérives de la raison et se manifestent sous forme de poésie, de mysticisme, de hurlement, de rage, de burlesque, de symbolisme, de pratiques excessives où la douleur est vécue comme une expérience nécessaire. Nous supposons avec un brin d’ironie que la vie est une pratique extatique; il convient ici d’en explorer d’autres.
Les courts-métrages sélectionnés seront diffusés en octobre 2012 à l’entrée vidéo de l’Œil de Poisson dans le cadre de l’événement Extase, la vie et autres pratiques extatiques.

Appel à projets :: Call for proposals
Programmation régulière & Programme d’été SKOOL /

Skol invite les artistes et plus largement la communauté à soumettre des propositions pour des projets de courte ou de longue durée, ou, encore, de propositions qui donnent continuité à des recherches déjà en cours dans notre programmation. À partir de maintenant, les propositions pourront être envoyées tout au long de l’année. Il s’agit dans ce cas d’ouvrir un échange avec les différents professionnels de l’art dont les recherches et l’expérimentation pourront activer différents espaces et produire différentes formes autant dans l’espace de la galerie que hors-les-murs. Il pourra s’agit d’une intervention, d’un partenariat, d’un projet de commissariat, d’ateliers de production, d’un cours de maître, d’une publication, d’un séminaire ou colloque, de performances, conférences, ou projections ponctuelles ou en série, d’une fouille dans les archives, d’une initiative de financement ou même d’un ensemble de ces formes dans un projet d’envergure.

Skol lance également un appel à projets dans le cadre du programme d’été SKOOL, qui s’adresse aux artistes et travailleurs culturels issus de la relève. Les propositions de stages/résidence d’été d’une durée de 10 semaines nous parviendront d’équipes administratives temporaires constituées pour travailler dans le contexte d’un centre d’artistes autogéré. En transformant le centre en lieu d’apprentissage, le programme SKOOL met les ressources du Centre à la disposition d’une équipe qui pourra expérimenter différentes formes de recherche artistique dans un cadre professionnel, et ce, avec l’appui d’un mentor. Les propositions pour le programme SKOOL doivent être envoyées au plus tard le 15 mars 2012, le cachet de la poste faisant foi.

Tous les dossiers (pour SKOOL ainsi que pour la programmation régulière) doivent comprendre :
•    Un texte présentant votre projet de même que son inscription dans votre parcours artistique;
•    Un curriculum vitæ (max. 3 p.) par participant, selon le cas ;
•    Un CD/DVD comprenant un maximum de 15 images (JPGs n’excédant pas 1 Mo ou 1024 X 768 pixels), et/ou un CD/DVD vidéo ou audio (5 min. max.). Un maximum de 2 CD/DVD de documentation est alloué – tout matériel supplémentaire ne sera pas considéré ;
•    Une description détaillée de vos images ou vidéos;
•    Une enveloppe pré-affranchie pour le retour de votre dossier.
Information générale :
•    L’appel régulier est ouvert aux professionnels en art de tout âge et expérience ; l’appel SKOOL s’adresse exclusivement aux étudiants et récents diplômés universitaires (qui ont moins de 3 ans de pratique professionnelle) ;
•    Les dossiers seront évalués par un comité de pairs ;
•    Skol paie les droits de diffusion et honoraires selon les taux recommandés par la CARFAC ;

APPEL DE DOSSIERS 2012 VOLET 3 – PRISE 2
Date de tombée : 19 mars 2012
Dans le cadre de sa programmation 2012 et avec le déplacement de sa roulotte dans le Quartier des Spectacles au printemps*, Dare-Dare est fier de lancer cet appel de dossier aux artistes d’ici et d’ailleurs.
Mise en contexte. Avec Dis/location : projet d’articulation urbaine, DARE-DARE a établi un cadre pour la recherche et la diffusion des pratiques en art public et contextuel. Cette exploration urbaine s’effectue par amarrages successifs en des lieux de la ville de Montréal qui sont porteurs de riches questions sociales et politiques. Ainsi, depuis 2004, le mandat de DARE-DARE est de promouvoir les interventions prenant place dans l’environnement urbain.
Lieu flexible, ouvert, voué à la recherche et à l’éducation, DARE-DARE, Centre de diffusion d’art multidisciplinaire, soutient et valorise l’implication d’artistes aux pratiques émergentes. Le centre d’artistes autogéré manifeste un intérêt soutenu pour l’exploration et la diversification des modes de production, de présentation et de diffusion des œuvres et interventions artistiques.

La période de mise en candidature pour le Concours de peintures canadiennes est maintenant commencée. Des prix totalisant 55 000 $ seront accordés ; le lauréat national recevra 25 000 $, et les deux gagnants d’une mention honorable recevront un prix de 15 000 $ chacun.

Créé en 1999, le Concours de peintures canadiennes de RBC fait connaître des artistes canadiens émergents. Dans le cadre de ce concours parrainé par la Canadian Art Foundation, un jury composé de membres respectés du monde canadien des arts visuels sélectionnera cinq œuvres dans les régions de l’Est, de l’Ouest et du Centre du Canada, pour en arriver à un total de 15 finalistes.

Les noms des finalistes seront annoncés le 29 juin 2012 et ceux des gagnants seront dévoilés à l’occasion d’une réception qui aura lieu le 29 novembre 2012 à la galerie Power Plant de Toronto.

A year long contribution to the Soundasaurus Festival of Multimedia Sound Arts
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Submission is open to local and national sound artists (please note that artists must be Canadian citizens to be eligible for this program).
Deadline: Submissions must arrive by 4:00 on Friday, March 30, 2012
+15 Soundscape: Sound artists from across Canada are invited to submit multichannel sound art proposals for the +15 pedway system located in the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts (specific location overlooks the woodshop and is located between Calgary City Hall and the Glenbow Museum). The selected piece must be a minimum of 60 minutes in length; the artwork will loop continuously for a period of one year. This project reaches a diverse population of all ages; content must be suitable for public spaces. The selected artist will receive an artist fee of $3000.00 plus necessary travel (within Canada – maximum $500.00) and accommodations in Calgary for up to three nights. The artist must be available to travel to Calgary for the 4th, 5th and 6th of September 2012 and participate in installing their work to ensure that their vision of the piece is being met.

SOUNDASAURUS is an organized cacophony of experimental sound and performative new media projects. This multisensory festival is located in the Engineered Air Theatre and lobby (the lobby is most conducive to sound installations, small setup performances and soundscapes on the speakers during intermission).
SOUNDASAURUS showcases local, national and international artists. This call is open to individuals, groups or collectives engaged in the production of sound art created with new/innovative media technologies or experimental uses of prehistoric equipment which may include: performance, video art, net-art, installation, composition, performance and related disciplines.

Trinity Square Video announces a call for submissions to CENTRE, the third and final act of the TSV Commission trilogy, LEFT, RIGHT, CENTER. This commission asks artists to use lens-based material from the Archives of Ontario (134 Ian Macdonald Boulevard) as subject or reference for the production of a 10-minute video or video-based installation* that examines contemporary politics.

Continuing TSV’s celebration of its 40th anniversary as a centre for the production of art, we are looking for three successful proposals to CENTRE. Although selected artists’ projects will be developed through five months of research, development, and production with the Archives and TSV, the initial proposal should display a strong understanding of kind of material that will be used for the final project. Applicants will need to explore the Archives online collection databases and exhibitions: http://www.archives.gov.on.ca

In mid-February, TSV will host an in-house presentation by the Archives of Ontario. Open to all, this general introduction to the Archives is an excellent opportunity for artists to gain an understanding of what this incredible resource can offer them. For CENTRE, we are seeking proposals for the creation of work that investigates “centre” in various ways: the median or the moderate; a fixed point where things pivot; the idea of the institution–centres like the Archives or TSV–as public resources; the privileging of the eye, the power of its vision, and the social or historical weight of its perspective; a nucleus or a beginning.

This is a commission for the production of video art. TSV is seeking submissions that propose to explore pertinent issues related, but not limited, to representation, identity, geography and space, economics, justice, divisions of labour and power, science, history, and philosophy. These works can be critical, humorously self-effacing, discursively political, or experimental in their analysis and construction.

Proposed artworks can employ video through a variety of strategies, including narrative or documentary form, formalist or materialist practices, animation or compositing, non-lens-based video production and motion graphics, and through video installation*.

Selected artists receive:
– $750 in production equipment rentals;
– 40 hours of editing time;
– 2 TSV workshops;
– Support from TSV’s technical and artistic Staff;
– TSV membership or renewal;
– $500 honorarium;
– A public screening/exhibition (October 2012–expected);
– Inclusion in the LEFT, RIGHT, CENTER catalogue (published at the completion of the trilogy)

While each project is created separately, the artists participate in group-critiques of works-in-progress, where they can receive peer-support and feedback.

Submissions will be reviewed by the TSV Programming Committee who will make selections based on the proposed project’s exploration of the theme, CENTRE, as well as its intended examination, experimentation and expansion of video as an art medium.

All Toronto-based emerging, mid-career and established visual artists, video artists, media artists, and filmmakers are welcome to submit proposals to CENTRE. Proposals from those living outside Toronto and surrounding area must ensure that the artist will attend all CENTRE related activities at their own expense.

*Video installations can be proposed as part of CENTRE, although artists are also required to create single-channel versions appropriate for the public screening. Selected artists working in single-channel video or video installation will receive the same resources from TSV, as outlined above.

This Request for Expression of Interest and Statement of Qualification is issued by Ballard Fine Art Ltd on behalf of Cressey (Quebec Street) Developments LLP for Meccanica, a multi-family residential development project designed by Raffi Architects and located in Southeast False Creek at the corner of East 1st Avenue and Quebec Street.  It consists of a 12 storey Tower situated at the corner of the block and a 5.5 storey Wing facing East 1st Avenue with the main lobby served from the north (East 1st Ave).  Meccanica’s building design is in keeping with the industrial heritage of the site.

The architecture, neighbourhood and history of the Southeast False Creek community invite artistic expression.  The central theme of the artwork will explore the rich recent industrial history and heritage of the site.   Sustainability and its socio-economic and environmental contexts as related to the Southeast False Creek community offer further themes in conjunction with the historical context.

An art budget of $183,300 has been designated for this project.  This budget will include artist fees, travel, design, artwork fabrication and installation.  The selection process will be a 2-stage limited open call to professional artists living in Canada.  Artists residing outside of Canada will be permitted to compete by invitation.  A selection panel will shortlist 3 artists who will have the opportunity to visit the site and meet with the Cressey Design Team.  The 3 shortlisted artists will be provided with an honorarium of $3,000 to prepare and develop a detailed concept proposal with budgets. The final artist or artist team will be chosen in July 2012 from the short list after careful and thoughtful review of the concept proposals presented.

This Call requires a statement of qualifications, images of previous artwork and a written project proposal. Artists considered will have experience with public art projects of a similar scale and scope.

The Festival of Regions has been exploring and conquering a region or a town in Upper Austria every two years since 1993. Far from the metropolises and cultural centres, a program with contemporary art and culture is designed and communicated to all the residents of a chosen region. Apart from regional, national and international participation by creative artistic and cultural agents, collaboration with local associations, institutions and individuals is sought to anchor the festival in the area and thus leave behind traces that are as deep and distinct as can be. Apart from reinforcing and furthering regional initiatives in the cultural sector, raising awareness of cultural developments is one of the festival’s aims in combination with the aspects of communication, open dialogue and interconnecting everyday culture and art.
The festival venue of Eferding is known principally as a commercial vegetable growing area, especially as a supplier of mini-gherkins that are harvested by the legendary ‘gherkin flyers.’ It is less well-known that Eferding, founded in 1222, is the third oldest town in Austria and can look back on an eventful history that stretches from the Nibelung saga via the peasant uprisings up to the dominant royal house of the Starhembergers. This time we will be engaging with a conservative, good middle-class town. As always at the Festival of Regions, the public domain will serve as both a space for artistic action and a hospitable meeting place. There is a variety of interior spaces in the town available for performances and installations. From the centre the festival program can expand into the nearby environs.
Digging Up is the motto for the Eferding Festival of Regions. On the one hand, this suits the agricultural character of the place, and on the other, digging up can also bring to the light of day things that have been hidden and covered up. In any case, things first have to be dug up if something new is to grow, if new fruits are to be harvested. The motto is therefore a metaphor for planting today’s art and culture, whereby rare plants and blossoms are hoped for in all possible mutations and variations.
Call for submissions
Project proposals are invited from all artistic areas and genres. In an atmosphere of openness, projects with local specificity will be given preference nonetheless, along with endeavours that engage with the town’s social history and draw in as many strata of the population and individual positive forces as possible, for which role we will gladly function as mediator. Connotations with the festival motto of Digging Up will also be considered. However, please do not submit already-made projects without any connection to the festival’s location or theme.

Appel à candidature et concours d’art public Chandieu
Le Fonds d’art contemporain de la Ville de Genève (FMAC) en collaboration avec les services de la Ville concernés et les architectes mandataires lance un appel à candidature pour une intervention artistique pérenne en lien avec la réalisation d’un groupe scolaire, d’un espace de vie enfantine, et de l’aménagement d’un espace public en ville de Genève.

Contexte et enjeux
Le concours d’architecture pluridisciplinaire (architecte et architecte paysagiste) de Chandieu a été mis en place afin de garantir une liaison verte dynamique entre le quartier de Chandieu et la gare Cornavin et un continuum de programmes divers. Le défi à relever pour les architectes est d’associer tant les programmes d’une école et d’un centre générant des activités pour le quartier que celui d’offrir un espace urbain. Le concours a été remporté par le Bureau d’architectes atelier Bonnet architectes avec le projet « petit navire » (mai 2011).
La réalisation de cet équipement scolaire et public comprenant un groupe scolaire, avec une salle de gymnastique et une piscine, un espace de vie enfantine, une salle polyvalente et des espaces publics de qualité est prévue pour la rentrée 2015. 

L’objet de l’appel à candidature organisé par Le Fonds municipal d’art contemporain de la Ville de Genève (FMAC) est à terme, la conception, réalisation et installation d’une intervention artistique qui pourra envisager d’occuper un ou plusieurs emplacements, et même s’étendre au-delà pour une intervention plus globale. Le budget de réalisation des interventions artistiques est plafonné à CHF 800’000.- dont les honoraires de l’artiste ne dépasseront pas CHF 150’000.-.
L’appel à candidature est ouvert à tous les artistes, de toutes les nationalités et de tous les âges.

Le jury
Un jury composé de professionnels de l’art contemporain et de l’architecture présélectionnera, sur la base des dossiers envoyés, 8 à 10 artistes lauréats (degré 1). Ces artistes pré-qualifiés seront invités dans le cadre du second degré à participer à un concours d’idée et à développer leurs projets en concertation avec les architectes mandataires. Après délibération du second jury, un ou plusieurs projets seront retenus pour réalisation.

Now in it’s third year, (having evolved from Braziers International Artists’Workshop), SUPERNORMAL offers a platform for visual arts and artists of all disciplines to draw inspiration from the event’s unique ethos and setting. An opportunity for dialogue, exchange and exploration of art-focused practice and action in an experimental environment where risks can be taken and leaps of imagination can occur. We encourage participation in the festival as both artist and spectator to give the arts a wider audience and artists a greater challenge outside the conventional gallery space – putting the arts at the heart of the festival.
Proposals & Selection Process
Proposals will go through a selection process and will be judged on the quality of the idea, along with an understanding of the context and audience of Supernormal. As an event that promotes an amalgam of experimental art and music, we will be looking for work that may offer a different viewing or participatory experience – that engages and inspires thought, whether challenging or easily accessible. The work should show understanding of the audience for an event that promotes experimental art and music and work that breaks new ground.

Supernormal is a not-for-profit event with an invisible budget and limited resources, although we are currently working on funding proposals to assist in the production of work. Trapdoor is announcing the seventh annual Gushul Studio Residency and Collaboration Project. We seek proposals from emerging visual artists working in any media.

The residency seeks to combine the skills, knowledge, histories and varied approaches of two emerging visual artists. At least one artist will be chosen from within Alberta. The other artist will be chosen from outside Alberta.

Artists will be chosen based on the strength and merit of their ongoing production as well as their collaborative abilities. Artists can apply individually and be paired with another artist or they may apply as a team. The two will do a residency together at the University of Lethbridge’s Gushul Studio. One goal of Trapdoor artist-run centre is to help visual artists develop their practice by providing opportunities for creative research and exploration. We see the promotion of emerging artists as a vital role for our organization and an important contribution to the cultural richness of our community.

The Gushul is located in the scenic Crowsnest Pass in the town of Blairmore, Alberta. Trapdoor chose the Gushul as the location for this residency because it is designed to accommodate two working artists and has been successfully utilized for two decades by professional artists and writers from across Canada, the United States, and Europe. It is an exceptional space which meets the requirements of the project and has the added extra incentive of allowing artists-in-residence to interact with and contribute to the vitality of the Crowsnest Pass community. Trapdoor has scheduled the Gushul Studio for July, 2012.

Trapdoor will arrange and advertise an open house during which members of the community can visit the artists in residence. In addition, we will publish a full-colour brochure featuring written and visual documentation of the project.

Trapdoor believes strongly in providing adequate funding for participants. We will cover the rental costs of the Gushul studio and writer’s cottage as well as provide a living stipend and a $750 artist’s fee for each artist.

The Sublime Artist Residency is a partnership between IOTA (Inverness Old Town Art) and the University of Aberdeen’s School of Biological Sciences, and is funded by Creative Scotland as part of the Sublime programme. Sublime is a series of commissions, film screenings and live events curated by IOTA for Inverness’ Old Town Rose Street car park, bringing high quality contemporary art to a broad public.
IOTA is an organisation that creates opportunities for public art through forging unexpected alliances across diverse situations. Based in the Highlands of Scotland, IOTA is committed to examining issues of global significance through local experience. This residency aims to investigate parallels between marine mammal and human senses; in particular how sound and light within the physical spaces we inhabit, whether it be natural or man-made, affects behaviour patterns.
The residency’s main aim is for an artist/musician/film-maker to participate in internationally significant marine research at the Lighthouse Field Station (LFS) in Cromarty on the Black Isle; in order to develop a series of site specific works.
Over the last 25 years, the Lighthouse Field Station (LFS) has developed an internationally recognised research programme, using photography, bioacoustic techniques and a range of tracking technologies to study the abundance, movements, sound and underwater behaviour of seals, dolphins and other marine wildlife. This work aims to understand how natural and man-made changes in environmental conditions influence these populations, and to use this information to support policy development, conservation action and sustainable resource management.
This project offers a dynamic and unusual context in which to research and make new work. The residency is expected to start in April 2012 and last 3 – 6 months.
Fee: £6,000 + an additional £2,000 presentation budget.

Residency at Black Church Print Studio, Ireland (Deadline: March 30th, 2012)

•Emerging, mid-career and established professional artists are invited to apply.

•Selected participants in this programme will receive accommodation, basic materials, studio equipment & facilities usage and technical and administrative support.

•Artists will have access to etching, lithography, screenprinting and relief presses, and to multi-media and digital equipment.

•This year’s Residency is scheduled for a single four-week term in July 2012.

•The successful resident will be asked to complete two editions of works completed during his/her residency and donate two prints from each to the Studio, one for the Archive Collection and one for fundraising.

Callout for Artists’ Residency in Catskills (Deadline: March 6th, 2012)

The Andes Sprouts Society released a callout for its residency program that allows new media artists to live and work in a mobile off-grid artist’s studio in the Northwestern Catskills. The residencies, supported by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, offer two to four weeks for media artists whose works to explore the agricultural and natural environments.

The residency program invites artists, inventors and farmers  from around the world to participate creatively within Catskill region’s working landscape.  ASsociety residency program supports the inception, creation and presentation of original art projects encompassing new media and bio-art.  The ASS residency facilitates this cross disciplinary collaboration with a mobile residency program that travels to host farms in the Catskills. Built on a trailer frame, the residency cabin periodically will be moved to different host farms allowing the residents to create projects that interact with different forms of agriculture (for example, produce, livestock, agroforestry) in different years and seasons.

Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts in Wyoming: Artist Residency (Deadline: March 15th, 2012)

ELIGIBILITY
Residencies are intended as professional development opportunities for writers, visual and performing artists, musicians and composers in all fields and genres. Proposals for self-directed, creative residencies must be compatible with available working studio spaces, facilities, and resources. Artistic merit and promise are the basis for selections. Mature and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Any person over the age of 18 is eligible.
DEADLINES
Applications and supporting materials must be postmarked by September 15 for the Winter/Spring Residency -or- March 15 for the Summer/Fall Residency. Incomplete applications will not be accepted for review.
DURATION OF RESIDENCY
Length of stay is seasonally based. Options of two, four or six weeks are available. Please indicate three available dates on the application form. Tuesday is the designated arrival and departure day; residents will be informed of specific dates upon award notification.
AWARDS
A rotating panel of experts and professionals in the arts and humanities independently review work samples. Final awards of some instances, artists, writers and musicians are invited to participate without submitting an application.

La Pan Stage in Shanghai–Summer Residency in the gallery (Deadline: May 20th, 2012)

During the 8-week campament d´art 2010 (June and July), five selected artists will work in the area of Pantocrator Project Space in Shanghai.
These artists will exhibit and create new works in the gallery as their studio. The gallery is open to the public to interact with artists and see work in progress. Curators of prestige in Shanghai will visit the gallery to review the artists’ work and advise them at the end of the 8 weeks of residence in refugee campament d’art.

During July and August, five resident artists will work together within Project Space Pantocrator room, which becomes an open spaces studio. Artists can work in any medium they desire, from painting, collage, video, digital art or sculpture to the transformation of their study in an installation or operation of the area. The gallery is open at its usual time for artists to get a greater exposure of their work and interaction with the public.
Pantocrator Project Space will provide postcards, press releases, a page on the Pantocrator Project website, a group exhibition at the end of the residency and a list of photos guide.
Cost :
Applicants agree to pay a rental fee of 350 € per month. Participants range from students, local artists who need temporary studio space, or artists from around the world interested in creating and exhibiting in Shanghai.
The beneficiaries of the residence will be notified to make your reservation from 300 € to discount the first month (July 2012).

Paducah Artist-in-Residence Program
The Paducah Artist-in-Residence Program is a collaborative effort between the Paducah Arts Alliance and the Yeiser Art Center,  working together to create a permanent and progressive artist in residence program. The mission of the residency is to promote the growth of artists and of the arts community, providing artists with a community arts space in which to collaborate, educate, and create. The residency is made possible through funding from a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Paducah Renaissance Alliance. The residency space is located at A.I.R. Studio in the heart of LowerTown Paducah, providing walking access to a number of local artist galleries and studios, as well as Downtown Paducah with a variety of arts venues including the Yeiser Art Center, Maiden Alley Cinema, the Carson Center, the National Quilt Museum, and the Paducah School of Art.
Qualifications
The program welcomes self-motivated, focused individuals working in a range of traditional and non-traditional visual arts practices, including performance and multi-media art. Applicants must be at least 21 years old. Residents must have a clear objective for the time of their residency and be willing to live, work, and engage with the Paducah arts community. The duration of the residency may be from two weeks to two months, between the months of April 2012 and March 2013. Collaborative artists and couples are welcome to apply.
Program Benefits
EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITIES: The Paducah Artist-in-Residence Program offers several exhibition opportunities. The A.I.R. Studio building features a storefront with a front wall gallery space for exhibiting work during the artists’ stay. Exhibition space in the Yeiser Art Center is periodically available for visiting artists. A group exhibition in the main gallery of the Yeiser Art Center at the conclusion of the residency program will feature selected work from each participating resident artist, and is scheduled for August-September 2013. Opportunities may also be possible in collaboration with other artists and galleries in the Paducah community.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Residents are encouraged to visit local galleries and studios and engage with the arts community. The residency program also provides the opportunity for focused, independent studio work in which artists can develop ideas or take new directions in their work.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE: Visiting artists may choose to lead workshops during the stay that are open to the public.
Cost
Residents are paid a monthly stipend of $500, dependent upon the length of their stay. The cost of rent and utilities are covered entirely by the program. Transportation, materials, food, and additional expenses are the responsibility of the artist, in addition to a non-refundable $25 application fee. A deposit of $100 is required within two weeks upon notification of acceptance into the program, which is refunded upon arrival. If an artist cancels a residency less than 30 days prior to the beginning of the residency, the deposit is not refunded.
Studio
The studio space and living quarters are handicap accessible. The studio area features a large, open workspace as well as a concrete outdoor deck. A rear entrance door accommodates large work. Additional features include a utility sink, several skylights, and a front window gallery storefront. The studio is not media specific. Accommodations may be made upon request for residents requiring access to specific studio equipment. Wireless internet is available throughout the structure.
Attached living quarters include a kitchen, bathroom, washer and dryer, and sleeping quarters large enough to accommodate a couple. No smoking or pets are allowed within the facility.

Call for Participation for Residency Project in Leipzig, Germany
Call for applications for a unique residency project, new to the Spinnerei in Leipzig, Germany.  You are invited to participate in a thematic exhibition-focused residency program housed in Halle 14, www.halle14.org, alongside Croatian artists from the Croatian Artist Association, and American artists from the New York Academy of Art, alumni. Six artists are invited at a time and will be expected to create some of their works based on the theme of “One Sided Story” alongside fellow artists in a 243 square meter atelier in Halle 14. The project will run for only one year, the residency begins April 28th, during the Spring Rundgang. The first artists to arrive will be introduced to the Leipzig public and art community during this weekend and will begin their residency session on May 1. Artists are invited to participate from 2 to 5 months.

All artists will exhibit during the Spinnerei Rundgang, http://spinnereigalerien.de/rundgang/ and have the opportunity to have an open critique with Leipzig artists, gallerists, curators, and professors.

The Spinnerei was at one time the biggest cotton spinning mill in continental Europe. Over the past 10 years it has grown into an artist community housing top tier galleries, residencies, project spaces, and private ateliers. The Rundgang takes place three times a year, in late April, mid-September, and mid-January.

The entire art complex swings open its doors to more than 15,000 visitors and collectors from around the world that flock to Leipzig for the gallery weekend.

There will be a publication at the end of the project and selected works will then be sent to Zagreb, Croatia for a museum exhibition at the Meštrovićev paviljon. In addition to the selected works, three Leipzig painters, three Leipzig video artists, and three Leipzig photographers will also exhibit. The cost of the residency project is 250 euro per month per artist. The atelier is a work-only space, however housing can be arranged. On average a flatshare costs 200 euro per month per person. Selection of artists will be made by the NYAA, HDLU, and the director of the residency, Candace Goodrich, so please send your cv and portfolio or website to the attention of Candace Goodrich.

L’Association des groupes en arts visuels francophones tenait son assemblée générale annuelle à Ottawa du 16 au 19 février dernier.
