Le 8 mars 2012, Le Centre d’art et de diffusion CLARK ouvrira une nouvelle librairie (sous son toit) située en plein cœur du Mile-End. CLARK souhaite donc lancer un appel aux créateurs et aux organismes culturels qui publient des ouvrages en arts visuels actuels (incluant des recherches théoriques, monographie, livres d’artistes, fanzines, revues, etc.).

Pour soumettre votre publication, vous pouvez procéder par la poste ou par courriel selon les modalités suivantes :

La Virée de la culture est une structure de diffusion novatrice et souple pour les artistes professionnels en arts visuels à travers un réseau alternatif de salles d’exposition dans huit lieux sur la Côte-Nord.
Appel de dossiers
Panache art actuel invite les artistes, les collectifs et les commissaires à soumettre un projet pour la programmation 2012-2013 de la Virée de la culture.
Panache art actuel a pour mission de regrouper les artistes professionnels en arts visuels pour dynamiser le milieu de l’art actuel nord côtier. Panache s’intéresse à la mise en valeur des singularités nord côtières telles que les notions de rapprochement/éloignement et d’espace/temps. Dans une volonté de rapprochement et d’ouverture au monde, le regroupement organise des manifestations d’arrimage en lien avec l’actualité culturelle et sociale. Un de ses mandats est de promouvoir la diffusion d’expositions itinérantes sur l’ensemble de son territoire, via la Virée de la culture. Panache se veut une plate-forme de dialogue entre l’artiste et la population, une réflexion sur l’humain, le territoire et ses paradoxes.

Programmation régulière & Programme d’été SKOOL

Skol invite les artistes et plus largement la communauté à soumettre des propositions pour des projets de courte ou de longue durée, ou, encore, de propositions qui donnent continuité à des recherches déjà en cours dans notre programmation. À partir de maintenant, les propositions pourront être envoyées tout au long de l’année. Il s’agit dans ce cas d’ouvrir un échange avec les différents professionnels de l’art dont les recherches et l’expérimentation pourront activer différents espaces et produire différentes formes autant dans l’espace de la galerie que hors-les-murs. Il pourra s’agit d’une intervention, d’un partenariat, d’un projet de commissariat, d’ateliers de production, d’un cours de maître, d’une publication, d’un séminaire ou colloque, de performances, conférences, ou projections ponctuelles ou en série, d’une fouille dans les archives, d’une initiative de financement ou même d’un ensemble de ces formes dans un projet d’envergure.

Skol lance également un appel à projets dans le cadre du programme d’été SKOOL, qui s’adresse aux artistes et travailleurs culturels issus de la relève. Les propositions de stages/résidence d’été d’une durée de 10 semaines nous parviendront d’équipes administratives temporaires constituées pour travailler dans le contexte d’un centre d’artistes autogéré. En transformant le centre en lieu d’apprentissage, le programme SKOOL met les ressources du Centre à la disposition d’une équipe qui pourra expérimenter différentes formes de recherche artistique dans un cadre professionnel, et ce, avec l’appui d’un mentor. Les propositions pour le programme SKOOL doivent être envoyées au plus tard le 15 mars 2012, le cachet de la poste faisant foi.

Tous les dossiers (pour SKOOL ainsi que pour la programmation régulière) doivent comprendre :
•    Un texte présentant votre projet de même que son inscription dans votre parcours artistique;
•    Un curriculum vitæ (max. 3 p.) par participant, selon le cas ;
•    Un CD/DVD comprenant un maximum de 15 images (JPGs n’excédant pas 1 Mo ou 1024 X 768 pixels), et/ou un CD/DVD vidéo ou audio (5 min. max.). Un maximum de 2 CD/DVD de documentation est alloué – tout matériel supplémentaire ne sera pas considéré ;
•    Une description détaillée de vos images ou vidéos;
•    Une enveloppe pré-affranchie pour le retour de votre dossier.

•    L’appel régulier est ouvert aux professionnels en art de tout âge et expérience ; l’appel SKOOL s’adresse exclusivement aux étudiants et récents diplômés universitaires (qui ont moins de 3 ans de pratique professionnelle) ;
•    Les dossiers seront évalués par un comité de pairs ;
•    Skol paie les droits de diffusion et honoraires selon les taux recommandés par la CARFAC ;
•    Un plan de la galerie est disponible sur le site Internet en format PDF.

Annonce de la période de mise en candidature pour le Concours de peintures canadiennes

La période de mise en candidature pour le Concours de peintures canadiennes est maintenant commencée. Des prix totalisant 55 000 $ seront accordés ; le lauréat national recevra 25 000 $, et les deux gagnants d’une mention honorable recevront un prix de 15 000 $ chacun.

Créé en 1999, le Concours de peintures canadiennes de RBC fait connaître des artistes canadiens émergents. Dans le cadre de ce concours parrainé par la Canadian Art Foundation, un jury composé de membres respectés du monde canadien des arts visuels sélectionnera cinq œuvres dans les régions de l’Est, de l’Ouest et du Centre du Canada, pour en arriver à un total de 15 finalistes.

Les noms des finalistes seront annoncés le 29 juin 2012 et ceux des gagnants seront dévoilés à l’occasion d’une réception qui aura lieu le 29 novembre 2012 à la galerie Power Plant de Toronto.

Par son Volet Soutenance, Diagonale encourage et soutient les artistes terminant leur maîtrise en arts visuels. Le centre réserve une plage horaire de 3 semaines, en début de chaque année, pour des étudiants qui souhaitent présenter leur exposition de maîtrise. 

Cette offre est ouverte aux étudiants de toutes les pratiques artistiques dont le travail présente un lien avec le Centre.

Au cours des dernières années, Diagonale a eût la fierté de présenter les expositions de : Amélie Pellerin (2012), Elisabeth Picard (2011), Amélie Brisson-Darveau (2010), Héloïse Audy (2009) et Ying Gao (2008).

Les HTMlles 10 invitent toutes et tous artistes qui s’auto-identifient comme femmes, trans, et dissidents et dissidentes du genre de toutes origines à proposer des projets abordant le thème du risque, ou… des projets risqués.


Les HTMlles est un festival féministe d’arts médiatiques et de culture numérique produit à Montréal par le Studio XX, centre d’artistes féministe bilingue engagé dans l’exploration, la création, la diffusion et la réflexion critique en art technologique.  Lancé en 1997, le festival est une plateforme internationale dédiée à la présentation publique d’œuvres d’arts médiatiques innovatrices et indépendantes, créées par des artistes s’auto-identifiant comme femmes, trans ou dissidents et dissidentes du genre et dévoilant la création technologique contemporaine sous toutes ses facettes, telles que : l’œuvre numérique à trame narrative, l’art Web, l’art vidéo et les courts-métrages, l’art audio, radio et électronique, le jeu vidéo, l’installation, les médias localisés, l’animation 3D, la réalité augmentée, les publications électroniques, le design, le bio art, la performance, les pratiques ancrées dans la communauté et les pratiques interdisciplinaires.
Les HTMlles 10 seront diffusées dans plusieurs lieux et sous différentes formes, incluant en exposition dans le nouvel espace de galerie du Studio XX, au cours de l’émission de radio les XX Files, au sein de la revue électronique .dpi et dans Matricules, l’archive féministe en ligne. AFFAIRES À RISQUES sera également présenté en partenariat avec plusieurs centres d’artistes de Montréal (qui seront annoncés ultérieurement) dont les activités se concentrent soit sur les arts médiatiques, soit sur les pratiques féministes, ou les deux. Les artistes recevront un cachet pour leur participation.

Local, national and international artists are invited to submit proposals for performative works and lectures to be presented as part of the M:ST 6 Festival in October, 2012. M:ST encourages the submission of innovative performative works, media/audio works, site-specific works, public interventions and lecture/panel based proposals.

PLEASE SUBMIT APPLICATIONS IN AN ELECTRONIC FORMAT ONLY. Please send all written support as a single PDF and images in JPEG form on one CD. DVDs may be included for video documentation. Please do not send any paper or include a return envelope. Please do not email submissions.

About the M:ST Festival: The Mountain Standard Time Performative Art Festival Society showcases original, diverse, entertaining, and thought-provoking performative works. M:ST ensures that the exceptional quality of performative art is recognized and sustained in the Southern Alberta region. The term “performative” describes practices that originate from a visual or media arts discourse and involve the live presence of the artist. M:ST Festivals are presented through the collaborative efforts of 11 Southern Alberta arts organizations (Alberta College of Art and Design, Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, EMMEDIA, EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts, Glenbow Museum, The New Gallery, The Nickle Arts Museum, Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Stride Gallery, The Founders Gallery at the Military Museums, TRUCK Contemporary Art in Calgary).

Submission procedure: Proposals are selected through a peer review process by the M:ST Programming Committee. The Committee consists of local artists, programmers, writers, and curators who have extensive visual, performance, and media art backgrounds. Proposals will be selected based on consideration of the following criteria: artistic merit of the proposed project, fit with the M:ST mandate, feasibility of the proposed budget, and the ability of M:ST and its member organizations to provide appropriate space/support for the project.

All submissions MUST include the following:

1. Curriculum Vitae (maximum of 3 pages): Describe your artistic background (e.g. education, grants, scholarships or awards received, professional status, previous exhibitions or performances, commissions, professional memberships, articles, etc.)

2. Proposal (maximum 2 pages): Clearly describe the proposed exhibition or project. Provide details about your spatial, and material requirements, including equipment needs. Explain what kind of venue is best suited to your proposed work (gallery, theatre, off-site, public space, etc.).

3. Artist statement (maximum 1 page)

4. Budget: Provide a detailed budget that explains the costs involved in presenting your project. Contingent on sufficient funding, M:ST will cover artist travel/shipping, accommodation, and per diems, as well as artist and speaker fees as per CARFAC. Support for production costs will generally be the responsibility of the artist. Additional costs will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

5. Support Material:
Provide up to:
-15 numbered digital images on CD-ROM or DVD, and corresponding Image List with artist name, title, date, medium, and dimensions.

-10 minutes (maximum) of audio or video material (DVD or CD)
You may also submit up to 2 other items of relevant support material (i.e. diagrams, articles, reviews, press clippings). These are optional, and should only be provided if they relate directly to your proposal.

* Burn all materials to ONE disc
* Following the submission guidelines will ensure your submission is reviewed
* Make sure your written proposal is clear and concise

Proposals are selected through a peer review process by the M:ST Programming Committee. The Committee consists of local artists, programmers, writers, and curators who have extensive visual, performance, and media art backgrounds. Proposals will be selected based on consideration of the following criteria: artistic merit of the proposed project, fit with the M:ST mandate, feasibility of the proposed budget, and the ability of M:ST and its member organizations to provide appropriate space/support for the project.

Artists and curators are invited to submit proposals for upcoming exhibitions in the Rick Burns Gallery, Gallery Connexion’s main exhibition space. Proposals will be for March 2013 to February 2014 programming.

Visualeyez 2012 performance
The Thirteenth annual Visualeyez festival of performance art happens from 10–16 September 2012 in the downtown core of Edmonton, Alberta, exploring on the curatorial theme of loneliness.

Visualeyez takes place over a period of seven days and it is required that all invited artists are able to attend for the entire length of the festival. Artists experience the work of other artists; engage in discussion groups, meals and other activities that enhance the work of individual artists and the performance art community within Canada and beyond. It is important that prior to submitting that artist is available for a minimum of six days during the festival. Please visit visualeyez.org for the past festival information.

Curator and Founder of Visualeyez, Todd Janes states, “Visualeyez 2012 builds upon notions of an ever-expanding and more urban city. This theme will explore issues such as emotional versus social isolation, chronic and transient states of loneliness within the city and our inter-relationships with crowds, emptiness and intimacy. I want to present artists that will explore the theme of loneliness and enhance dialogues regarding the societal issues, community connectivity and understanding of the concept and its impact on individuals and society as a whole.

Proposals should include: a CV; artist statement; a detailed description of the work you wish to present, or explore; and support material that can include images, video, print or digital documentation of your work, catalogues, and press.

The deadline for submission is Friday, 27 April 2012.

Niagra Artists Centre (Niagra, ON): Call to Visual Artists, Deadline March 10

The Niagara Artists Centre is looking to get propositioned, so whisper in our ear your dreams of exploring Niagara through smartphone-based media art works. Our new project, Niagara HERE, is a network of site-specific artworks that people will find and interact with, and we are looking for brave souls who want to turn over metaphorical rocks and uncover a different kind of Niagara.

We are seeking proposals for site-specific art works that will be delivered via smartphone (see technical details below). A list of potential sites can be found at nac.org/heresites. Artists are asked to develop a proposal for one of our listed sites with the understanding that site permissions are in the process of being obtained. Proposals will be evaluated on the basis of both artistic merit and technical feasibility.

Artists with accepted proposals will be contracted in March. The completed works will be presented in two phases. The first twenty-five works will be developed for late May 2012.The remaining fifteen works will be developed for late August 2012.

Artists will be compensated with a one-time commission fee of $2000 on submission of the completed work. This project is made possible with the support of the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Regional Municipality of Niagara as part of Cultural Capitals of Canada.

This opportunity is open to emerging, mid-career, and senior artists. Artists with strong, well-articulated concepts but without the equipment, facilities, or expertise to achieve them are encouraged to apply. Projects of this type with outstanding merit may be supported by NAC. An introductory workshop on the technological aspects of making artwork for smart-phones will be offered by nGen (Niagara Interactive Media Generator), located in downtown St. Catharines. Limited access to nGen production facilities will be allotted to artists based on need.

Plug In ICA is now accepting applications for our 2012 Summer Institute featuring faculty, curator Sylvie Gilbert (Montreal) and artist Andrew Kearney (London, UK).

The Summer Institute is an international post-graduate artist residency for professional artists working in all disciplines. Up to ten artists, architects, designers, curators and other creative professionals will share a collegial, open-studio environment. This critical discursive opportunity will take place in Plug In ICA’s new purpose-built facilities, with an adjoining workshop, art research library, gallery, bookshop and café. Plug In ICA is located at the perimeter of the University of Winnipeg campus, adjacent to the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and in the heart of an urban environment.

Participants are encouraged to pursue their own practices and projects within the context of a shared/collegial/collaborative environment. Faculty and staff provide support and feedback to participants in the program, and work to foster productive and rewarding professional development opportunities. Participants may instigate and participate in collaborative projects, or work independently.

The Institute will host other visiting curators throughout the residency to conduct studio visits with artists.
Sylvie Gilbert is currently the director of Artexte in Montreal, a centre dedicated to the study, the documentation and the interpretation of documents produced in the field of contemporary visual arts. The various positions she has held in arts organizations, museums and public galleries, have included senior curator at the Walter Phillips Gallery and the Banff International Curatorial Institute at the Banff Centre (2004-2008), and director/curator of the Liane and Danny Taran Gallery at the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts in Montreal (2001-2004). Gilbert acted as the Canadian Commissioner for Catherine Richards for the Sydney Biennale (2004). She has curated numerous exhibitions, the most recent include: alt.publication.artists.contemporary.mtl.ottawa.gimli, Pickpocket Almanack Project, Artissima, Italy (2010); Derek Sullivan and Gareth Long: The Illustrated Dictionary of Received Ideas (2010); Bureau de Change (2008); Micah Lexier’s Touch Paper Once: Selected Documents from the Walter Phillips Gallery Archive 1976 – 2007 (2008); Garry Neill Kennedy: Simple Functionalism (2008); Dagmara Genda: Screamers and Bangers: The Wallpaper Project (2008), and Comic Craze (2006) among others. She has also edited numerous publications including the latest two issues of Supplément, a periodical published by Éditions Artextes.

Andrew Kearney, a mixed media installation artist, was born in Limerick, Ireland in 1961. He studied fine art at Limerick College of Art and Design, and then went on to Chelsea College of Art and Design, where he obtained an MA in sculpture. He won the Barclays Young Artist award at the Serpentine Gallery, London, in 1992. The same year, he was awarded a fellowship at the PS1 studios of contemporary art in New York. Kearney moved back to London in 1993, where he developed an installation for the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin. The following year he developed other installations for the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, the Camden Arts Centre, London and the Ottawa Art Gallery, Ontario. Site-specific work led to collaborative architecture and public art projects, including a commission for Heathrow Terminal One, with architect, Nicholas Grimshaw, and the Public Art Development Trust. In 2001 Kearney worked with Glen Howell architects on their “Millennium Project” for Westminster Council and on the “Courtyard Interface” for South Thames College, London and the Public Arts Commission Agency. In 2001/2002 he completed two large installation projects in Ireland, “With Intent”, Limerick and “Illumination” at the Boiler House in Ballymun, Dublin. In 2004 he was commissioned to develop an artwork entitled, “Art Wall”, in the new chambers of Limerick County Council. In 2004 Kearney completed his second residency on the ”Informal Architecture” program at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Last year he completed a three-year research program funded by the AHRC at Middlesex College of Art, London. The project looked at the ways in which we inhabit a purpose built environment of an art campus and how that space changes its role as the needs of its users change with new technologies. Two books were published: “Phase 2”, 2007 and the “Spaces Buildings Make”, 2008, culminating in an installation on the South Bank – part of the London Architecture Biennale.  In recent years he has worked on projects such as interactive lighting for the Wexford Opera House in Ireland, entitled, “Liquid Mountain” 2009, Hull, England, and “Art in Empty Spaces” 2010, Tate Britain, 2011.

100 Survivors is a collaborative, web-based photo and video project for women currently in treatment for breast cancer or diagnosed in the past three years. Shooting from a list of 12 tags, participants share photos, videos, and stories.

By featuring up to 100 women and their work, 100 Survivors hopes to inform and inspire by looking beyond “awareness” and “supporting the cause” and focusing on the experiences of actual women with breast cancer. Unique perspectives on breast cancer and identity are welcome and encouraged.

Appel à candidature : Quinzaine Photographique Nantaise 2012

La Quinzaine Photographique Nantaise (QPN) attribuera pour son édition 2012, un prix intitulé « Prix QPN 2012 ».

Le prix sera décerné au photographe candidat ayant présenté le dossier de photographies le plus remarquable. Le lauréat pourra exposer les photographies primées au cours du festival de photographie, la «Quinzaine Photographique Nantaise » qui aura lieu à Nantes, du 14 septembre au 14 octobre 2012.
Le travail récompensé sera présenté dans l’une des salles d’exposition du festival.

Les photographies du lauréat du prix QPN 2012 seront aussi présentées sur le site www.qpn.asso.fr, sur le blog du festival et dans le catalogue ainsi que la brochure de la QPN 2012.

Un prix d’une valeur totale de 1000 Euros, sera attribué au photographe lauréat. Le coût de réalisation des agrandissements ou des impressions des tirages d’exposition est à la charge du lauréat. Des accords avec des laboratoires partenaires de la QPN pourraient permettre d’avoir accès à des tarifs préférentiels.

Le collectif R recherche des films vidéo destinés à être diffusé sur le mobilier urbain de la ville de Nantes.

Caractéristiques des films de R_minute :

– Le sujet de votre proposition doit tenir compte du contexte urbain de sa diffusion.

– La durée du film doit être impérativement de 55 secondes. Ils ne peuvent être ni plus long, ni plus court.

– Le son de la vidéo ne pourra pas être pris en compte (les écrans de diffusion ne disposent pas de sonorisation).

A noter que vos films seront archivés et présentés sur le site de R aux rubriques R_minute (voir ci-dessus) mais également à l’adresse suivante : www.r-minute.fr. 

La présentation de votre film pourra être accompagné d’un texte, de votre contact,  d’un lien internet vers votre site…

Droit d’auteur : nous rétribuons 60 euros de droit d’auteur par film sélectionnée.

Description du parc d’écrans de la ville de Nantes :

La ville de Nantes dispose de 7 écrans vidéo de grande taille (3 x 4 m) disséminés dans la ville. Elle dispose également de 150 écrans (15 pouces) dans ses abris bus et de 10 écrans (1 m x 80 cm) présents dans différents lieux institutionnels de la ville. Chaque films sélectionné est projeté en rotation trois semaines durant sur l’ensemble des écrans. 

Projet inscrit dans le cadre de Nantes création, programme de soutien aux arts visuels mis en place par la Ville de Nantes.

We encourage participation in the festival as both artist and spectator to give the arts a wider audience and artists a greater challenge outside the conventional gallery space – putting the arts at the heart of the festival.

Proposals & Selection Process
Proposals will go through a selection process and will be judged on the quality of the idea, along with an understanding of the context and audience of Supernormal. As an event that promotes an amalgam of experimental art and music, we will be looking for work that may offer a different viewing or participatory experience – that engages and inspires thought, whether challenging or easily accessible. The work should show understanding of the audience for an event that promotes experimental art and music and work that breaks new ground.
Supernormal welcomes proposals from artists, performers and groups as detailed above. Please include an outline of your idea, work or project in as much detail as possible along with any supporting images and links. (up to 750 words)

Funding & Resources
Supernormal is a not-for-profit event with an invisible budget and limited resources, although we are currently working on funding proposals to assist in the production of work. We would encourage artists to source outside funding where possible. We can provide artists with guest passes to the event, food and drinks, promotion of projects and profiles.

The Way Forward – Film Screening: 
We are looking to present silent, short films that look at the history of moving image development. CAST Film Programme:
Throughout 2012 CAST bar will present artists moving image, to coinside with three exhibitions taking place at Nottingham Playhouse. At the end of the year, one artist will be selected to receive a £500 commission to produce a new film. To be considered for the commission you must be selected for the film program.
Digital Stage: 
The Cutting Room are proud to present their new Digital Arts Programme, Digital Stage which will be hosted at Nottingham Playhouse for 2012. Digital Stage will respond to Nottingham Playhouse’s artistic programme and present three exhibition over the course of the year. Funded by Arts Council England to encourage growth and development for digital arts within the EastMidlands.

The Festival of Regions has been exploring and conquering a region or a town in Upper Austria every two years since 1993. Far from the metropolises and cultural centres, a program with contemporary art and culture is designed and communicated to all the residents of a chosen region. Apart from regional, national and international participation by creative artistic and cultural agents, collaboration with local associations, institutions and individuals is sought to anchor the festival in the area and thus leave behind traces that are as deep and distinct as can be. Apart from reinforcing and furthering regional initiatives in the cultural sector, raising awareness of cultural developments is one of the festival’s aims in combination with the aspects of communication, open dialogue and interconnecting everyday culture and art

The festival venue of Eferding is known principally as a commercial vegetable growing area, especially as a supplier of mini-gherkins that are harvested by the legendary ‘gherkin flyers.’ It is less well-known that Eferding, founded in 1222, is the third oldest town in Austria and can look back on an eventful history that stretches from the Nibelung saga via the peasant uprisings up to the dominant royal house of the Starhembergers. This time we will be engaging with a conservative, good middle-class town. As always at the Festival of Regions, the public domain will serve as both a space for artistic action and a hospitable meeting place. There is a variety of interior spaces in the town available for performances and installations. From the centre the festival program can expand into the nearby environs.
Digging Up is the motto for the Eferding Festival of Regions. On the one hand, this suits the agricultural character of the place, and on the other, digging up can also bring to the light of day things that have been hidden and covered up. In any case, things first have to be dug up if something new is to grow, if new fruits are to be harvested. The motto is therefore a metaphor for planting today’s art and culture, whereby rare plants and blossoms are hoped for in all possible mutations and variations.

Call for submissions
Project proposals are invited from all artistic areas and genres. In an atmosphere of openness, projects with local specificity will be given preference nonetheless, along with endeavours that engage with the town’s social history and draw in as many strata of the population and individual positive forces as possible, for which role we will gladly function as mediator. Connotations with the festival motto of Digging Up will also be considered. However, please do not submit already-made projects without any connection to the festival’s location or theme.

Atelier Topaz – résidence

Opasatika, Ontario, Canada
Le lieu
Situés au cœur de la forêt boréale, les Ateliers Topaz sont à la fois un lieu de retraite et un centre de création pour artistes, toutes disciplines confondues. L’endroit parfait pour la réflexion, l’évasion. Le groupement d’édifices fait 900 mètres carrés et repose sur 14 hectares face à la route Transcanadienne. Il donne sur un étang de deux hectares. Topaz c’est la « Route 66 » dans le nord de l’Ontario. L’endroit, modeste et nostalgique, rappelle aussi les grandes épopées de la colonisation francophone de l’Ontario. Ces studios de création ou cette résidence d’artistes, endroit idéal pour les arts visuels, sont situés au centre du Canada, à mi-chemin entre l’Atlantique et le Pacifique, là où les étoiles deviennent les topazes de la nuit.

Ce qu’on offre
D’abord l’espace et, l’espace de travail déterminés selon les besoins de l’artiste. Les espaces polyvalents permettent d’y faire de la peinture, de la sculpture, de l’installation, etc. L’atelier de menuiserie, le Bar à clou, est équipé des outils de base. Un magasin d’objets trouvés est disponible autant pour l’inspiration que pour l’utilisation dans une œuvre. Le peintre apporte ses pinceaux, le musicien son instrument et l’écrivain son ordi.

Les personnes qui séjournent aux Ateliers Topaz jouissent de l’accès à la cuisine et sont responsables de préparer leurs repas. Toutefois Laurent peut aussi leur cuisiner de petits plats typiquement canadiens-français aux besoins ou aux désirs. 

Topaz possède deux suites avec lit double et une chambre avec lit simple. Chacune possède sa salle de toilette avec douche. Ces installations évoquent admirablement le style des années 1960. 

Pour la baignade, le Lac des Cœurs se situe à deux kilomètres à l’est. Pour le canotage ou la pèche, la rivière Opasatika est deux kilomètres à l’ouest. Pour se déplacer, il y a de vieux vélos ou la marche. Pour un frais très raisonnable, votre hôte peut aussi vous conduire ou organiser un déplacement vers Kapuskasing à l’est ou vers Hearst à l’ouest. 

Les matériaux d’artistes ne sont pas disponibles dans la région. Il est donc important de faire vos achats avant votre séjour, à moins que vous travailliez avec des matériaux que l’on peut se procurer dans des magasins ordinaires ou même en nature.

CAFKA/Christie Artist in Residence Program – Call for Applications

Christie Digital Systems Canada and CAFKA – Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area have created an Artist in Residence programme. Christie Digital Systems Canada (www.christiedigital.com) is a global visual technologies company that produces products for business, entertainment, and industry. With expertise in film projection since 1929 and professional projection systems since 1979, Christie has established a reputation as the world’s single source manufacturer of a variety of display technologies and solutions for cinema, large audience environments, control rooms, business presentations, training facilities, 3D and virtual reality, simulation, education, media and government. As a market leader, Christie has installed over 100,000 projection solutions worldwide. Christie’s broad range of technologies include DLP Cinema™ projectors, LCD and DLP™ projectors, rear screen projection modules, video walls, and cutting edge projection technologies for 3D, virtual reality and simulation. In 2009, Christie launched the MicroTiles digital display system based on DLP technology with PhlatLight LED illumination. MicroTiles are modular 12h x 16w x 10d-inch rear projection units which can be stacked to form any shape or size.

The CHRISTIE/CAFKA Artist in Residence programme has the following goals:
a) the advancement of research and practice into the creative use of digital media technologies;
b) the use of visualisation and interactive technologies in the visual arts; and
c) the creation of digital media with intelligent projections that may include 3D animations.

Artists selected to participate in the programme will be exposed to a body of technical knowledge enabling them to explore forms, methods of display, and concepts not possible in their own studios as well as new ways of thinking and working in a unique collaborative environment. Christie will provide funding, facilities and technical mentoring to make its visualisation technologies accessible to resident artists.

1. DURATION OF PROGRAMME AND RESIDENCY

The Artist in Residence programme will have a term of two years. It will operate on an annual basis, hosting one artist position for a full year, or the equivalent in short term residencies. Each resident artist will have the opportunity to work from two to twelve months, depending on the size of the project, creating a work of art using Christie’s projection systems.

2. FACILITIES AND ARTIST BENEFITS

Each artist will be provided with studio space at Christie’s facilities at the Communitech HUB in downtown Kitchener, Ontario. The space is accessible to the resident artist 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. In addition, each resident artist will have access to the following:

a) technical assistance from Christie in developing artwork for use on Christie’s projection systems;
b) reimbursement of housing expenses for rent of up to $1,000 per month (the artist may bring family members but the artist will be required to cover any additional costs);
c) a stipend of $1,200 per month to cover food and personal expenses of the artist;
d) reimbursement of travel costs of up to $1,000 for the artist to travel from the artist’s residence to Kitchener, Ontario (the artist may bring family members but the artist will be required to cover any additional costs);
e) a workstation/studio at Christie’s facility at 809 Wellington Street North, Kitchener, Ontario
f) access to software
g) use of a bicycle supplied by Cycle CAFKA;

An important consideration in the selection of artists will be the extent that an applicant will take advantage of the resources and technical support provided by Christie. Artists will be selected for a residency based on:
a) the quality of past work;
b) the potential impact of the residency on the artist and their work;
c) the ability of the artist to master new technologies; and
d) a demonstrated commitment to working at Christie’s Kitchener facilities with their team and resources.

3. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING / OUTREACH

The Christie/CAFKA residency is intended to benefit the cultural life of the City of Kitchener and the Region of Waterloo. As part of the Artist in Residence programme, resident artists will be expected to undertake a selection of the following, to be agreed upon between CAFKA and the artist:
a) public lecture;
b) public workshop;
c) video interviews to be broadcast on CAFKA TV and posted on the CAFKA web site;
d) blog or vlog, to be posted to the CAFKA website; and
e) public exhibition of completed artwork.

4. APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications to the Artist in Residence Programme must include:
a) a cover page including: name, address, city, postal/zip code, country, telephone, email, website, and a maximum one page project proposal;
b) a concise portfolio of previous work;
c) two letters of reference;
d) a curriculum vitae; and
e) an artist statement.

Applications will be administered and reviewed by CAFKA’s programming committee with support from staff from Christie who will be called on to assess the project’s technical feasibility.

The Seven Below Arts Initiative’s Artist-In-Residence Program (Deadline: April 4th, 2012)
The Seven Below Arts Initiative Artist-In-Residence Program was established to foster artistic development and to support arts education in the state of Vermont. Seven Below, in partnership with Burlington City Arts, is pleased to request proposals for six-week residencies at The Barn near Burlington, Vermont. The residencies are designed to provide artists with a peaceful, inspiring, and supportive environment for individual and/or collaborative new work. The residency program is open to artists at any stage of their career and working in various visual arts media.

ELIGIBILITY
The ideal applicant should be an artist with a history of rigorous work, excellent communication skills, and enthusiasm for interacting with other artists and the public. Although we cannot subsidize travel to Vermont, we encourage the participation of artists from outside New England as well as locally.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Residents will live and work at The Barn, a uniquely restored property on 65 acres offering magnificent views of Mt. Mansfield and the Green Mountains. The 200-year-old Alan Irish Barn was reconstructed in 1996 and served as the recording and rehearsal facility for Phish, Trey Anastasio, and other musicians. In 2006, to support the activities of the Seven Below Arts Initiative, The Barn was retrofitted to provide living and workspace for up to three artists in residence at a time. The six chosen residents are selected from a diverse range of national and international applicants, and they are provided with a $2,000 materials and living stipend to help support the creation of new work.
They are joined by Seven Below Studio Manager and working resident R. Elliott Katz from Cabot, Vermont.

2012 RESIDENCY DATES
There are two residency sessions each year. Due to the mixed use of the residency space, we cannot release 2012 start and end dates at this moment. Typically, Session 1 begins the first week of June and ends in mid July (June 1st – July 13th), and Session 2 begins in mid July and ends the last week of August (July 15th – August 26th). Garza, Fire Island Artist Residency first inaugurated its program in August of 2011 with five emerging artists – Travis Boyer, Ryan Brewer, Elijah Burgher, A.K. Burns, and Katherine Hubbard – who converted a modest beach house into a makeshift live/work space for a two-week residency, and joined a historic group of gay, lesbian, transgendered, and queer artists who have contributed to the legacy of art-making in this deeply unique beach environment.

Old Church House – Residency for Photographers – Fife, Scotland

Old Church House offers a free residency to photographers, photojournalists and multimedia artists to finish existing projects, develop new work and ideas or create work that have a meaningful and humanitarian aspect to them.

Our residency programme runs throughout the year with the exception of August and Christmas. Each residency lasts 1-2 weeks or by arrangement.

We are also keen to support collaborations between photographers and journalists that seek to develop new and innovative combinations of image and text.

We encourage each residency artist to give a lecture whilst there, which will be focused around their individual practice. These lectures will bring a diverse range of people together and encourage the free flow of ideas.
Grants may be available for projects of a humanitarian nature and which fulfil the aims of Changing Ideas (www.changingideas.org).

Whilst resident at the Church, artists will be granted a daily allowance to cover food and other personal expenditure.
Residents have full use of the space to work on their projects without distraction in an idyllic location. The only thing we ask is that each resident leaves a photograph or piece of work when they leave.

One-to-One is a new programme of funded visual and cross-artform residencies. During Cove Park’s 2012 summer programme we will award one and two-week residencies for artists wishing to work collaboratively. Artists who have worked together previously and those wishing to develop work collaboratively for the first time are welcome to apply. Joint applications from a visual artist working with an artist specialising in another art form are also eligible.

The residencies will run from 14 July – 10 August 2012 and from 3 – 14 September 2012. One of the joint applicants should be based in the UK. Previous Cove Park residents are also welcome to apply. Further details and application guidelines are available here.

C-11 (Modernisation de la Loi sur le droit d’auteur) au Canada

Culture équitable vous contacte parce que vous avez signé la pétition demandant au gouvernement conservateur de Stephen Harper d’amender le projet de loi C-11 (Modernisation de la Loi sur le droit d’auteur).  Le projet de loi a passé l’étape de la deuxième lecture et est maintenant entre les mains du comité législatif chargé de l’étudier.  C’est notre dernière chance de voir amendé ce projet de loi inéquitable envers les créateurs.  Nous vous invitons à faire parvenir une lettre aux membres du comité législatif leur rappelant l’importance des créateurs

Vous trouverez une lettre (modifiable) sur le site de Culture équitable.  En quelques clics, il vous est possible de la faire parvenir aux membres du comité, au Premier ministre Stephen Harper, aux ministres ayant déposé le projet de loi, Christian Paradis (Industrie Canada) et James Moore (Patrimoine canadien) ainsi qu’au député fédéral de votre circonscription en indiquant votre code postal.

Profitons de cette dernière chance qui nous est donnée de rappeler aux élus les iniquités de ce projet de loi avant qu’il ne soit trop tard !

AAMI – Rapport sur les normes d’emploi et  la gestion des ressources humaines

Montréal, le 7 mars 2012 – L’AAMI publie un rapport sur les normes d’emploi et la gestion des ressources humaines dans les centres canadiens en arts médiatiques indépendants

L’Alliance des arts médiatiques indépendants est un organisme national de services aux arts qui promeut et met de l’avant les intérêts de la communauté vibrante des arts médiatiques, représentant ainsi plus de 80 organismes indépendants à travers le Canada dans les disciplines de la production film, de la vidéo et des nouveaux médias ainsi que dans les secteurs de la distribution et de l’installation.

Puisque l’AAMI considère les normes d’emploi comme étant une question prioritaire, elle a commandé une étude approfondie des normes d’emploi dans les centres d’artistes en arts médiatiques auprès des consultantes MDR-Burgess. Cette étude avait pour objectif de créer des outils de référence, incluant des recommandations afin d’améliorer la gestion des ressources humaines dans ce secteur. La présente étude démontre que malgré l’excellent service qu’ils offrent, les centres d’artistes en arts médiatiques font face à d’importants problèmes de ressources humaines dû à un manque de financement. Les salaires de base de la présente étude sont comparables aux résultats d’autres études, c’est-à-dire qu’ils sont bas par rapport à d’autres secteurs sans but lucratif.

Les compétences exigées aux postes d’employés et de gestionnaires sont grandes. Le personnel doit avoir une connaissance de la production médiatique ainsi que du secteur des arts médiatiques (et, dans quelques cas, de l’art contemporain). Il doit également avoir des connaissances financières et des compétences dans la rédaction de demandes de subvention. Environ la moitié des postes exigent des études collégiales ou universitaires ainsi qu’une ou deux années d’expérience.

L’étude permet de dresser un portrait de la réalité actuelle :
•    Les travailleurs sont jeunes et hautement qualifiés
•    Deux tiers des travailleurs doivent faire des heures supplémentaires, jusqu’à 10 à 20 heures par  semaine.
•    Les centres d’artistes autogérés dépensent peu en avantages sociaux, mais des plans d’indemnisation sont offerts dans la mesure du possible.
•    Il y a peu de perfectionnement professionnel, mais les organismes s’efforcent d’offrir des opportunités.
•    Le roulement du personnel est élevé, 40 % des travailleurs occupant leur poste depuis deux ans ou moins.
Le présent rapport comprend la recommandation d’une structure salariale s’appuyant sur les données salariales actuelles et tenant compte des différences régionales et du financement au fonctionnement. Le rapport inclut également des pratiques exemplaires et des exemples astucieux où dans un contexte de ressources financières limitées, les organismes trouvent des façons originales de répondre à leurs besoins en gestion de ressources humaines. Les organismes sont intéressés à améliorer leur gestion des ressources humaines puisqu’il s’agit d’un élément clé afin de créer davantage de stabilité à long terme au sein du secteur des arts médiatiques.

Ce rapport parait quelques semaines suite à la publication des résultats d’une étude par  Hill Strategies Recherches Inc qui indique que la participation des canadiens aux arts, à la culture et aux activités liées au patrimoine a atteint un record en 2010. Étant donné que le grand public valorise les arts plus que jamais et que l’une des plus grandes priorités du gouvernement actuel est de renforcer la qualité de la main d’œuvre canadienne, la solution semble évidente : l’investissement dans les arts est crucial pour la santé et le bien être au pays.
