APPEL AUX ARTISTES DE TOUT LE PAYS QUI SE SERVENT DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE
DANS LEUR PROCESSUS CRÉATIF EN ART ACTUEL.

Double défi:

1- Montrer l’invisible en se servant de la photographie

2- Utiliser un processus ancien, le sténopé, adapté à la technologie
moderne, un appareil numérique à objectif interchangeable. (Il n’y a
qu’à enlever l’objectif et le remplacer par un carton noir ou le
bouchon, percé d’un petit trou. Le temps -de pose- fera le reste!)

Laissez entrer un peu de vie dans l’image par le sténopé. Quand la
profondeur de champ est augmentée par la longueur de temps
d’exposition, la magie peut mieux opérer. Seule la photographie peut
révéler l’inconscient de l’œil. Vous prenez une photo et puis, c’est
la photo qui vous prend. Cette valeur ajoutée que Barthes nommait
punctum, c’est en négligeant un instant la raison qu’elle peut surgir.
Le hasard s’approche quand le contrôle nous échappe…

Appel de projets : « En mode AB »
Date limite : 6 juin 2011

« En mode AB » est un projet spécial de commandes d’œuvres lancé par SAW Video dans le cadre des célébrations de notre 30ème anniversaire, qui aura lieu à l’automne 2011. Quatre artistes seront sélectionnés pour créer une œuvre vidéo utilisant la technologie analogique du début des années 1980, époque à laquelle SAW Video a été créé et où la vidéo était encore une pratique relativement nouvelle. Les candidats retenus auront la chance de travailler avec une ancienne caméra et un système de montage analogique pour créer une œuvre vidéographique originale sur bande ¾ de pouce. Ils recevront également une formation pour l’utilisation de cet équipement.

En plus de l’accès au matériel, les candidats retenus recevront des honoraires de 300 $ et disposeront d’autant de bandes vidéo que nécessaire. Les artistes auront huit semaines pour réaliser leurs projets, dont la durée ne devra pas excéder 10 minutes. Les vidéos doivent être achevés le 1er octobre 2011 afin d’être présentés lors d’une projection spéciale qui aura lieu au mois de novembre dans le cadre des célébrations du 30ème anniversaire de SAW Video. Les artistes sélectionnés recevront un cachet pour la présentation de leurs œuvres.

Pour que leurs projets soient considérés, les candidats doivent soumettre une description d’une page de leur projet vidéo en expliquant leur concept ou idée de base et pourquoi ils veulent travailler avec la technologie analogique, et en décrivant toute expérience pertinente en rapport avec la vidéo analogique. Les candidats doivent également soumettre un curriculum vitae et un échantillon de leur travail passé en guise de matériel d’appui. Le matériel d’appui peut être soumis en format DVD ou en ligne par le biais de Vimeo uniquement. Il n’est pas obligatoire que les candidats aient déjà travaillé avec la technologie analogique. Tous les genres sont acceptés (vidéo d’art, fiction, animation, ou documentaire). Les artistes conserveront leurs droits d’auteur et il n’est pas nécessaire d’être membre de SAW Video pour soumettre sa candidature.

L’Atelier Graff est un lieu de création qui soutient et valorise la multiplicité des approches, la liberté de recherche et d’expérimentation et qui aborde les défis de l’art actuel
en encourageant l’émergence des nouvelles pratiques reliées au développement des arts d’impression. Ce centre d’artistes autogéré s’adresse à ses membres, artistes
professionnels et émergents d’horizons divers, en leur proposant un environnement de travail stimulant généré par le partage d’un espace de création qui favorise l’évolution
des démarches individuelles et collectives.
S’exposer aux intempéries — Réalisation et diffusion d’une oeuvre extérieure éphémère
Pour la 5e édition du projet S’exposer aux intempéries, l’Atelier Graff invite les artistes professionnels et les collectifs à explorer l’art public
en proposant un projet d’oeuvre extérieure éphémère pour la façade de son édifice. Réalisée en impression numérique avec les ressources
de l’Atelier Graff, l’oeuvre devra se démarquer dans un contexte urbain chargé visuellement afin de rejoindre un public en mouvement composé
d’automobilistes, de cyclistes et de piétons. L’artiste ou le collectif sélectionné devra s’investir de façon active dans toutes les étapes du processus.

Contraintes :
• Concevoir et réaliser une oeuvre bidimensionnelle qui sera installée devant la fenêtre condamnée
au 2e étage de l’édifice ;
• L’oeuvre devra s’ancrer sur une structure d’acier existante, qui pourra être légèrement modifiée ;
• L’oeuvre sera imprimée numériquement sur vinyle autocollant et montée sur un maximum de 2
panneaux de PVC, puis fixée à la structure de support. Les dimensions de chaque panneau ne
doivent pas dépasser 40 x 78 po.
Conditions :
• Cachet de production : 500 $ ;
• Deux mois d’accès gratuit aux espaces de travail et aux équipements de l’Atelier Graff ;
• 30 heures d’assistance technique ;
• Matériel, impression, ancrage et installation de l’oeuvre jusqu’à 1 500 $.
Contenu du dossier :
• Texte de démarche artistique, description du projet et besoins techniques (max. 500 mots) ;
• Ébauche de l’oeuvre et plans illustrant son positionnement en fonction de la fenêtre ;
• 5 images numériques d’oeuvres récentes (format JPEG) accompagnées d’une liste descriptive ;
• Curriculum vitae à jour (max. 2 pages) ;
• Enveloppe préaffranchie pour le retour du dossier, si désiré.
Notez que la réalisation du projet est conditionnelle à l’obtention du financement par l’Atelier
Graff. Le projet sélectionné sera présenté de mai à octobre 2012 sur la façade de l’édifice, au
963, rue Rachel Est à Montréal. Les dossiers seront évalués par un jury qui considérera la pertinence
et la qualité du travail, le respect de contraintes et la faisabilité du projet en fonction du temps et
du budget alloués. Notez que le projet devra également être approuvé par la Ville de Montréal.
L’artiste sélectionné devra donc préparer un dossier complet incluant un devis technique détaillé.

Skol

Pour célébrer son 27e anniversaire*, Skol invite les professionnels en art à proposer des interventions basées sur ses archives nouvellement traitées. L’approche et la forme de ces interventions donneront lieu à autant d’interprétations permettant de nuancer le passé de Skol, et même d’agir sur ce qui est encore à venir. Nous encourageons le regard transversal, sensible aux fissures et aux interstices, permettant de complexifier la perception d’un passé linéaire homogène.
Afin de faciliter ces interventions, Skol offre un espace de recherche, de même que l’assistance ponctuelle de l’archiviste Denis Lessard. Les propositions retenues seront présentées dans le cadre de la programmation de Skol, en novembre-décembre 2011.
On se rappelle qu’à l’été 2009, Skol accueillait le Bureau d’investigation des archives BIA/OAR, un premier projet d’investigation des archives motivé par un engouement pour l’histoire de l’émergence des centres d’artistes. Présentement, l’artiste et archiviste Denis Lessard occupe la petite salle de Skol jusqu’en août 2011 pour effectuer le traitement des archives historiques du Centre, traitement qui facilitera la consultation, et permettra de nouvelles explorations.

The City of Burnaby is seeking an artist or artist collective to develop a concept(s) for a public art project that will be located at the entrance to the new Edmonds Pool and Community Centre in Burnaby, BC. This Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) provides an exciting opportunity for a new work of public art for the City of Burnaby.

Canadian Artists and Artist-led teams are invited to submit Expressions of Interest to create site specific artwork for a Children’s Garden at Prince Arthur’s Landing. The site of the children’s play area is intended to be a gateway to the future Pond Pavilion and Children’s Boating Area. The art installations should be inviting, interactive, playful and should spark children’s imaginations, while remaining relevant to adults and other park visitors.

These installations are not intended to be a playground in the traditional sense. Interactive and climbable elements can be cleverly concealed or included in the art form and the artwork should be congruous with the high quality landscape and architecture of the park. Innovative, creative and thought-provoking approaches are encouraged.

Guiding theme: Interactive creatures to play with.

CALL TO ARTISTS – Martindale Light Rail Transit (LRT) Station
City of Calgary, Alberta, Canada – Public Art Program
Deadline: Thursday, June 30, 2011, 4:00 pm (Mountain Standard Time)
Budget: $474,000 CDN
The City of Calgary Public Art Program and the Transportation Department are seeking a professional artist or artist team to create a public art work for the highly visible screening walls running immediately in front of the new Martindale Light Rail Transit (LRT) station and continuing on towards the new Saddletowne LRT Station in northeast Calgary.

The goal is to have a site specific public artwork integrated into the screening wall structure. The screening walls span 120 metres on the inbound and 130 metres on the outbound platform. An additional 1500 metres of screening walls exist on both sides of the LRT right-of-way between Martindale and Saddletowne stations, and may be addressed and included within the project’s scope.
Martindale and Saddletowne LRT Stations are two new stations that extend the northeast LRT line from the McKnight-Westwinds station to Saddletowne Circle. The extension will support an estimated 8,000 daily passengers when it opens in the fall of 2012.

Project Budget and Submission Process:

Budget for this project is $474,000 all-inclusive. Submissions will be evaluated by a two stage juried process: stage one is the Request for Qualifications which will short-list artists; stage two is to review short-listed proposals and conduct interviews (honorarium paid for proposals).

Artist(s) should present demonstrated experience with public art projects of this scope and scale. The Public Art Program has a vision to build a diverse collection of great art and encourages artists working in all media suitable for exterior exposure in a public space to apply.

CALL FOR ARTISTS NATIONWIDE WHO USE PHOTOGRAPHY IN THEIR CREATIVE
PROCESS IN CONTEMPORARY ART.

A double challenge :

1- Reveal the invisible using photography

2- Use an old process, the pinhole camera, adapted to modern
technology – an interchangeable lens digital camera.  (All one needs
do is take off the lens and replace it with a piece of blackened
cardboard, or the body cap, with a small hole pierced in it. The
exposure time will do the rest!).

Let a bit of life enter the pinhole image.  When the depth of field is
increased by a long exposure time, the magic can better take place.
Only photography can reveal the subconscious of the eye.  You take a
photo, and then, it is the photo that takes you.  It is by ignoring
the rational for an instant that this added value that Barthes named
punctum may suddenly appear.  We invite in the unpredictable when we
relinquish control.

Artcity Festival is Calgary’s annual celebration of visual art, architecture, and design. For 10 days each year, new artworks, installations, and projects are temporarily inserted into the urban landscape for discovery and engagement by ordinary citizens and interested parties.The 20th annual Artcity Festival will take place September 9th to the 17th of 2011, under the thematic banner of “Rebirth”.
Artcity is produced by the Visual Arts Week Society (VAWS), a non-profit, volunteer-run society dedicated to enhancing the public’s experience and enjoyment of contemporary visual arts, architecture and design. Artcity brings art and architecture into the spaces where the public lives and works. The organization recognizes the continually changing needs of artists and the nature of artistic presentation, and as such, provides flexible exhibition opportunities to individuals and groups working in all (inter-) disciplines. The Festival opens possibilities in Calgary for conversations, debates and realizations about how and what artists, architects and designers do and how they see and shape the world around us. Artcity programs new, critically engaged work by professional artists in dynamic settings, and supports activities of a similar nature in the broader Calgary community through partnerships and joint programming ventures with arts organizations and educational institutions. The society provides a high-profile infrastructure to independent practices that move existing genres and ideas forward.

Toronto Urban Film Festival
Internationally acclaimed Canadian filmmaker, Atom Egoyan, will guest judge the fifth annual Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF), awarding the top prizes of the festival.
Call for Submissions – Deadline: July 15, 2011
Filmmakers, animators and video artists are invited to submit one-minute silent films for an urban public. TUFF is open to Canadian and international artists; pays artist fees; and awards thousands in cash and prizes.
The Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF), the only festival of its kind in North America, reaches over 1.3 million subway commuters daily. Recently named one of MovieMaker Magazine’s ’20 Coolest Film Festivals,’ TUFF takes place September 9 – 18, 2011 on Onestop platform screens across the Toronto subway system.

Oil. It fuels our cars, it furnishes our homes, it feeds our debates, our wars. Oil, almost magic, which can be transformed into a multitude of products, toys, fertilizers, carpets, shampoo, insulation, golf balls, credit cards, lipsticks, plastic bags, bottles. A strange philosophers’ stone giving immortality to pop bottles and plastic forks.
How are we going to negotiate our dependency and oil addiction with our environmental concerns? Who defines the Industry practices? How can the individual contribute to the emergence of solutions? What is the role of the artist, writer, poet?
OIL is looking for slick short videos to fuel the discussion! Daniel Dugas will curate the program, through a call of submissions that is open to local, national and international artists. We are looking for videos that address and explore the issues and relationships we have with oil, either politically and/or poetically. The program will be screened on July 12, 2011, which is the one-year anniversary of the capping of the BP well in the Gulf of New Mexico.

Curator Bio:
Daniel Dugas is a poet, musician and videographer. He holds an MFA, Time Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  He was an artist in residence at: the Banff Centre, in both in the Visual Arts and in the Music  Department; Sculpture Space, New York; EMMEDIA, Calgary; A.I.R. Vallauris, France, and more recently at the Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney, Australia.
His sixth book of poetry: Hé!, was published last spring by Les Éditions Prise de Parole, Sudbury, Ontario.  This spring, he will be participating in the Festival international et Marché de Poésie Wallonie-Bruxelles as well as the Frye Festival. Daniel is currently living in Moncton, New Brunswick where he is pursuing a PhD in creative writing at the Université de Moncton.

Appel à résidence : Résidences Internationales aux Recollets

La résidence internationale d’artistes du couvent des Récollets, situé dans le 10e arrondissement parisien, s’adresse aux artistes des arts visuels ou des arts de la scène et aux écrivains du monde entier. Ce programme, lancé en 2003 sous l’égide de la Ville de Paris et de l’Institut Français, a depuis accueilli plus de 160 artistes de 80 nationalités.
Environ vingt artistes bénéficient chaque année d’une résidence au couvent des Récollets. Ce programme s’adresse à des écrivains et artistes confirmés des disciplines arts visuels et arts de la scène, ayant déjà un parcours professionnel à l’international. Les lauréats sont sélectionnés par une commission consultative, sur la base d’un projet qu’ils souhaitent développer à Paris durant leur résidence. Ce projet doit de préférence être conduit en liaison avec une institution partenaire, une structure, une compagnie, ou un artiste, préalablement identifiés à Paris ou dans son agglomération pour les artistes dans les domaines des arts visuels et des arts de la scène, et/ou s’inscrire dans un projet de recherche.

La résidence de 3 mois, de décembre à janvier, est accompagnée de bourses mensuelles de 1500€. Les résidents bénéficient d’un logement-atelier d’environ 60m². Les candidatures doivent être soumises avant le 22 juin 2011.

Appel à projet : Résidence à la Maison Salvan de Labège

La résidence in situ est envisagée sur une durée de deux mois. Mais cette temporalité peut-être discutée en fonction des intentions. L’exposition est ensuite ouverte durant 4 semaines. Elle commencera à la fin du mois de mai 2012.

La ville de Labège propose une enveloppe totale de 5.500 € TTC comprenant les honoraires (2.000 €) et les frais de production (3.500 €).

Les résidents sont hébergés à proximité de la Maison Salvan. Les repas sont également pris en compte (cantine municipale pour les repas de midi, en semaine, et défraiement des autres repas avec possibilité de cuisiner dans le lieu d’hébergement).

La date limite de réception des projets est fixée au vendredi 15 juillet 2011.

Le dossier sera examiné par la commission culture de la Mairie de Labège et la décision sera rendue au plus tard le 30 septembre 2011.

The Pollock-Krasner Foundation/VSC Fellowship Program for visual artists of outstanding talent will support two 4-week residencies for domestic artists.
Henry David Thoreau Fellowship 
This fellowship supports a poet whose work is a living extension of the literary tradition embodied in the work of Henry David Thoreau, for a 4-week residency.
Zoland Translation Fellowship

4th Festival of Art on Billboards Art Moves

We would like to invite you to take part in a billboard art competition. The invitation is addressed to all the interested artists and students. There is no entry fee.
The best 10 artworks selected by an international jury panel will be printed and exhibited in the urban space of the city of Torun, Poland in September/October 2011. The author of the winning entry will receive the Main Award in the amount of PLN 10.000 (about EUR 2.540, USD 3.770).
The competition accompanies the 4th Festival of Art on Billboards Art Moves.
The artwork is supposed to be a creative response to this year’s competition theme: “Reality or fiction? Let’s pretend it’s not there.”
This slogan can serve as a kind of a metaphor of the processes taking place in the contemporary world. The slogan concerns daily matters and questions whether the things/situations in our daily life are real or fictional and how can we distinguish one from the other. Simultaneously, the slogan also raises a question what we, as individuals or as a community, are trying to hide. Are there any specific phenomena, processes or events we tend to intentionally ignore and pretend “it’s not there”? 
Do the Internet help us to reach something which is real or rather drags us into the world of fiction? Do the hi-tech forms of communication help or hinder our contact with reality? There could be a lot of different interpretations like these above and there are many different answers as well. We think that the question of what is real and what is fictional has a deeper meaning. If we stop asking ourselves what is real and what is not, what we discern and what we overlook, will we be able to say who we are and what world we really live in?

UNDERGROUND WORLDS

Submissions are being sought for Underground Worlds, an evening of short film and video which will take place at the Electric Palace Cinema in Hastings, U.K.

Taking inspiration from Hastings’ underground network of caves this programme aims to focus on work that illuminates other secret or hidden places, be they real or imaginary. Applicants are free to interpret this broad theme however they like.

All types of film are being considered, including artist’s film & video, experimental film, intimate documentaries and short fiction film.

Films should be 10 minutes or under (although exceptions may be made).

Submissions are accepted on DVD PAL. Please also include a short synopsis or statement, along with a list the film’s prior screenings.

Une nouvelle directrice pour arca

Le président de la Conférence des collectifs et des centres d’artistes autogérés (ARCA), M. Todd Janes, est heureux d’annoncer la nomination de la nouvelle directrice, Mme Annie Gauthier.
Depuis plus de douze ans, Annie Gauthier est active dans le milieu artistique au Québec et au Canada. Elle a un profil d’artiste professionnelle, entre autres, comme membre de Women With Kitchen Appliances, un collectif qui allie l’art performance à des pratiques audio et vidéo. Comme gestionnaire culturelle, elle fait preuve d’une implication soutenue dans le milieu associatif des centres d’artistes autogérés où elle s’emploie à l’avancement de la pratique artistique en dirigeant ses actions à toute une communauté de créateurs et de gestionnaires culturels. Pendant cinq ans, elle a travaillé pour le Conseil des arts du Canada, d’abord comme agente de programme à la section des arts visuels où elle était responsable du programme d’Aide aux artistes en début de carrière et du programme d’Aide aux centres d’artistes, et comme coordonnatrice externe de la Brigade volante pour les centres d’artistes et collectifs des arts visuels, arts médiatiques et inter-arts francophones du Canada.
Elle a aussi régi le service de développement professionnel du Regroupement des centres d’artistes autogérés du Québec (RCAAQ) où elle a, entre autres, rédigé le dictionnaire de compétences des travailleurs culturels des centres d’artistes autogérés. En 2008, elle a fondé Les arts et ses aléas, une entreprise qui offre de la formation aux artistes et aux travailleurs culturels et qui accompagne les groupes dans leur développement organisationnel. En 2010, grâce à la collaboration du Conseil québécois des ressources humaines en culture, elle a co-rédigé le dictionnaire de compétences des artistes en arts visuels en collaboration avec le Regroupement des artistes en arts visuels du Québec (RAAV). Elle siège au conseil d’administration de Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal.
Mme Gauthier entrera en fonction le 1er août prochain. Elle prendra la relève de M. Daniel Roy, qui aura été le premier directeur de l’organisme. Dès 2004, il a contribué à établir les bases légales de ce qui deviendra la Conférence des collectifs et des centres d’artistes autogérés en mai 2005, et en a assumé la direction depuis ce temps. Au fil des années, de concert avec le conseil d’administration, il a structuré l’organisme, lui a donné une identité propre et s’est dévoué à son rayonnement et à sa reconnaissance. À titre de représentant de la Conférence, il a été un des membres fondateurs, en 2008, de l’Alliance pour les arts visuels, qui regroupe douze organismes de service nationaux en arts visuels, en arts médiatiques et en métiers d’art. Après ces années de travail soutenu au service de la communauté des centres d’artistes autogérés du Canada, M. Roy désire maintenant se consacrer à des projets personnels.
Au nom du conseil d’administration, le président Todd Janes offre ses remerciements les plus sincères à M. Roy pour le travail accompli et souhaite une chaleureuse bienvenue à Mme Gauthier.
