SPOROBOLE lance un appel de dossiers pour sa programmation 2010-2011
Le centre fait appel à des propositions d’expositions, d’événements ou de discussions qui s’articulent
autour des rapports qu’entretiennent mutuellement les artistes et la société. Cette notion englobante
peut se développer selon différents axes qui sous-tendent des réflexions sur le rôle de l’artiste dans
le social et sur son engagement envers sa pratique :
Comment l’artiste se positionne à l’intérieur des problématiques de l’art actuel ? Comment les
stratégies qu’il utilise nous permettent de réfléchir sur les réalités sociales ? Par quels moyens
l’artiste utilise, détourne ou témoigne de réalités urbaines, sociales, géographiques ou affectives
pour les transformer ou en rendre compte dans une pratique réflexive, avertie ou engagée. Qu’il soit
porté vers l’autre à travers des interventions tournées vers l’extérieur ou qu’il privilégie les
bifurcations intimistes par l’autobiographie ou l’introspection, quels sont les objets issus des liens
entre l’art actuel, l’artiste et la société.
La situation géographique et démographique de Sherbrooke peut-être envisagée à travers des projets
ou des œuvres qui pourraient s’en inspirer. Des idées liées à l’urbanité propre à une ville régionale,
les tensions entre nature et culture, l’habitation, la route, la topographie, la frontière américaine et
la cohabitation de cultures internationales peuvent servir de références.
CONTEXTE SOCIOGÉOGRAPHIQUE
SPOROBOLE est situé au centre-ville de Sherbrooke et est propriétaire d’un
immeuble typique de l’architecture industrielle de la fin du 19e siècle qui abrita pendant
plusieurs décennies Les laboratoires Mathieu, fabriquant du célèbre sirop d’huile de
foie de morue et de goudron : le Sirop Mathieu. Son espace d’exposition occupe le rez-
de-chaussée, est vitré d’un côté et donne sur une intersection derrière la rue
principale (Wellington) du centre-ville de Sherbrooke qui est en pleine revitalisation.
Sa superficie est de 120 m2 avec des plafonds de bois de 4 mètres de haut qui rappellent
les origines du bâtiment.
Le centre fait une place à la relève, il bénéficie d’une proximité avec un jeune
public issu du Cégep de Sherbrooke et du Collège Champlain et du dynamisme de la
communauté universitaire environnante (Université de Sherbrooke et Université
Bishop’s). Il est intéressé à poursuivre le développement de projets en partenariat
avec d’autres intervenants en art actuel autant régionaux qu’internationaux.

Appel de propositions du RAIQ – Arts interdisciplinaires : Hi-Tech, Lo-Tech, No-Tech ?
Le Regroupement des arts interdisciplinaires du Québec (RAIQ) lance un appel de propositions pour la première édition de son colloque interdisciplinaire qui aura lieu en mai 2010. Le thème : Arts interdisciplinaires : Hi-Tech, Lo-Tech, No-Tech?
La pratique des arts interdisciplinaires se caractérise par la multiplicité de ses formes d’expression, c’est pourquoi le thème proposé – Arts interdisciplinaires : Hi-Tech, Lo-Tech, No-Tech ? – est intentionnellement large afin de favoriser la rencontre des artistes et des multiples formes de pratiques en art interdisciplinaire qui ont cours aujourd’hui. Il se veut aussi une réflexion sur l’utilisation, l’appropriation, le refus ou le détournement de la technologie à des fins artistiques.
Hi-tech
Aujourd’hui, les sciences représentent un pôle d’attraction grandissant pour de nombreux artistes. Plusieurs départements universitaires offrent d’ailleurs des programmes interdisciplinaires en art et robotique, art et environnement, programmation informatique et art, etc. Certaines productions en danse intègrent en une technologie sophistiquée des capteurs sensibles créant des méta-performances autour du mouvement du corps dans l’espace, alors que le théâtre se construit de plus en plus grâce à un arsenal multi-média. L’installation, une forme fondamentalement interdisciplinaire, intègre souvent des outils technologiques de pointe, tout en s’inspirant de l’architecture.
Lo-tech
Les espaces publics sont transformés par de nouvelles formes d’interventions rapides, qu’on associe au « non-art » , et qui s’incarnent via des communications physiques, parfois temporaires, utilisant le web ou les téléphones cellulaires. Différentes pratiques de scène sont marquées par une sorte de territoire de «l’entre», alors que le spoken word, la danse-théâtre, le monologue, voire même la comédie amalgament littérature, musique, mouvement et mise en scène pour créer des performances hybrides de non-représentation, de non-théâtre, de non-musique ou de non-danse.
No-tech
En même temps, on constate une effervescence du côté des oeuvres communautaires. Différents organismes offrent des ateliers, des bourses et des outils aux artistes et aux travailleurs communautaires ou culturels qui utilisent leur pratique afin de participer au développement de différentes collectivités. Les œuvres issues de l’esthétique relationnelle reposent quant à elles sur des pratiques qui touchent au psycho-social; elles favorisent l’émergence d’expériences transformatrices grâce aux contacts directs avec l’artiste, ou avec d’autres participants, lors du processus de création qui crée de l’intimité et ouvre à de nouvelles perspectives.

Bling-bling
Le trop, l’exubérance, la pacotille et le kitsch ont littéralement envahi la culture pop. Un terme est symptomatique de certaines de ces diverses tendances : le bling-bling. Le bling-bling, initialement associé à la culture rap, puis au hip-hop, fait désormais partie de la production artistique contemporaine.
Le bling-bling serait-il une forme dérivée du kitsch? Peut-il être subversif, ou encore agir en tant que stratégie de dérision, voire de parodie? Y a-t-il un potentiel ironique au clinquant? Que se cache-t-il sous le vernis ou sous ces tonnes de paillettes? L’art est-il devenu une marque de mauvais goût? L’art bling-bling est-il le contrepoids du retour du conceptuel? Enfin, s’ajuste-t-il tout bonnement aux exigences du marché de l’art où des nouveaux publics sont conquis par la légèreté esthétique et des dispositifs clinquants. Et si la vulgarité était devenue la norme…
L’art bling-bling serait-il ce que le pop art a été pour les années 60 : le signe d’un changement de paradigme? esse souhaite mettre en lumière les pratiques nouvelles qui utilisent abondamment la surenchère de matériaux, la référence à la mode, le retour au pop, la starisation, le goût pour la personnification, le clinquant, le kitsch et le rétro.

Submission guidelines:
• All photographers are invited to submit up to three photographic images on any subject*.
• Submission fee $10 (cash or cheque (made payable to galleryDK) or Paypal – one fee for up to three images)
• Photograph size must be a minimum 8″×10″ in size (no upper limit, other than frame limit below)
• Photograph must be framed or mounted and ready to hang. Frame can be no larger than 16″ x 20″ (but does not have to be that size. Whatever works best for the photo). Frames should be of a quality suitable for a gallery exhibition.
The Framing Depot is offering PhotoLab2 participants discounted custom printing and framing, upon request.
New submission deadline: October 25th, 2009 at 5PM. All submissions must be delivered to galleryDK. It may be possible to deliver the pieces at other times, but not without prior confirmation. Email info [arobas] galleryDK [point] com to arrange.
Artist name, phone and email must be attached to the back of each submission. An exhibition contract can be downloaded from galleryDK.com. A completed form must be submitted with the ready-to-hang pieces.
Show will run for the month of November and December, 2009 (until the holiday break) with an opening reception on Thursday, November 5th from 7-10. All pieces will sell for $125, with the artist receiving $100. Artist payments will be made by January 31st, 2009. Any unsold pieces may be picked up by the artist after January 1st.
*galleryDK reserves the right to reject any submission if the content is felt to be unsuitable for the general public, or the presentation is not suitable for a gallery setting. Trinity Square Video: Call for Submissions

Trinity Square Video (TSV) has a long history of supporting and presenting video-based works that are mediated by images of protest and activism, providing a space to explore the range of meaning that can be generated from such imagery. Our upcoming programming will build from this history. In the fall of 2009, TSV will begin an extended investigation of the current state of political engagement in contemporary art by exhibiting works that question the motivations, objectivity and ethics found in and around political representations. TSV is eager to hear from artists and curators working with video and video installation who are rigorously invested in enriching and expanding the field of socially critical visual and media-based art. We are looking for dynamic video and video-based artworks that are engaged with varying forms of contemporary politics in unexpected or unconventional ways. We are seeking innovative artist’s works that use video, its forms and its processes, to examine the modes of presentation found in activist gesture, social action or cultural critique. We intend to offer a wide range of video programs and installations: from those that feature direct activist gestures to those that call into question the relationship between aesthetic value and the promotion of social causes. TSV is an artist-run resource for the production, education and dissemination of video by artists and community organizations. Since 1971, TSV has made access to the means of communication its priority, providing a diverse community of video practitioners media-arts related development through workshops, seminars and classes, as well as offering a space for the creation and exhibition of video-based images. Through its public programming, TSV has advanced the understanding and appreciation of media works produced by various community-based groups and numerous internationally recognized artists, such as Michael Balser, John Greyson, Vera Frenkel, Richard Fung, Nancy Nicol, and Lisa Steele and Kim Tomczak. In recent years, TSV has presented works by Sara Angelucci, Jeremy Blake, Deanna Bowen, Manon De Pauw, Isabelle Hayeur and Éric Raymond, Nelson Henricks, Gunilla Josephson, Jude Norris, 640 480 Collective, among many others.

CALL TO ARTISTS FOR
RICHMOND ADELAIDE OVERPASS AT RIVER STREET
PUBLIC ART OPPORTUNITY
Waterfront Toronto (legally named Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation or “TWRC”) is in the process of transforming the former industrial lands along the city’s waterfront into a series of sustainable urban communities. The West Don Lands is the first of these communities to be developed and will serve as the example and inspiration for future developments that follow.
As part of the public realm design for the new West Don Lands community, a comprehensive public art strategy was developed that identified a diverse range of art opportunities that will enrich the new neighbourhood. The art strategy anticipates artworks installed in the public realm as a way of creating a sense of cohesiveness and identity for the West Don Lands by drawing attention to Waterfront Toronto’s investment in environmental sustainability as well as reflecting the past, present and future transformation of the area.
The vicinity under the Richmond Adelaide Overpass has been recognized as a high priority public art opportunity and will be the first independent artist selection process to be run by Waterfront Toronto. The selected artist will work with the multidisciplinary public realm design team to ensure the integration of their work within the design of the underpass park that is currently underway.
ARTWORK BUDGET
The budget for the art contribution to this project is $525,000 CAN, plus GST.
SUBMISSIONS
Waterfront Toronto is seeking to commission an Artist or Artist Team to become part of and to work collaboratively with the Public Realm Design Team on the development of the Richmond Adelaide Underpass Project.

Inc. are pleased to invite artists, craft artists, designers of all media and creative industry vendors to respond to a Request for Submissions for two public artwork-donor recognition commissions. These artistic installations will not only recognize hospital donors but they will also provide a visually striking and artistically compelling focus to the exterior South Light Well and the interior Heart Centre Foyer of the new Robbins Pavilion on the Royal Alexandra Hospital campus in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Respondents can be composed of creative teams from a variety of disciplines, and are welcome to provide submissions for one or both locations. International respondents are welcome.
Successful short-listed respondents from Stage One will be invited into Stage Two. Stage Two respondents will be invited to provide a Final Quote and Design with scale drawings and/or maquette. A design fee will be provided for Stage Two respondents.

MONITOR 6: New South Asian Film and Video
DEADLINE: November 16, 2009
SAVAC (South Asian Visual Arts Centre) invites submissions for its sixth annual experimental short film and video screening program, Monitor 6.
Monitor 6 is dedicated to the presentation of experimental short films and videos by and/or about South Asians from Canada and around the world. We invite independent and innovative short films and videos that explore the aesthetic and form of the moving image and its relation to narrative. Monitor 6 encourages new experimental work that takes risks and beckons the viewer’s active engagement.
Selected works will be screened at the sixth annual short film and video program, Monitor 6 on 24th March, 2010 at the National Film Board of Canada, Toronto. Monitor 6 will be curated by Toronto-based video artist and cultural critic Richard Fung in collaboration with a MONITOR Jury (TBC).
Works must be under 20 minutes and produced between 2007 – 2009. Submissions from first time directors are welcome. Artists’ fees will be paid.
Submissions should be sent on DVD (PAL, NTSC) enclosed with the following:

– Full contact information (address, phone, fax, email)
– Title of work
– Date of production
– Brief synopsis of the work
– Brief biography of the artist

L’Atelier d’Estienne, espace dédié à l’art contemporain en milieu rural de Bretagne Sud (15 min de Lorient), organise chaque été un parcours d’art contemporain intitulé L’Art, chemin faisant… Chaque année, un appel à candidature invite les artistes à participer à cette exposition collective et investir des lieux naturels ou historiques au cœur de la commune.
L’Art, chemin faisant… présente chaque été, le résultat de recherches artistiques intégré dans des lieux de vie et au milieu naturel de Pont-Scorff.
Edition 2010
Thème pressenti : Utopi(r)e
L’Art, chemin faisant… 2010 invite une dizaine de plasticiens à explorer un village de caractère et sa campagne environnante.
Cette édition offre l’occasion aux artistes d’orienter leur travail sur les chemins de traverses que sont le rêve, l’espoir et les utopies perdus ou à réinventer, ainsi que sur des territoires autres où le monde est réinvesti par la pensée, l’espoir ou l’inquiétude d’un pire à venir à force de perdre l’humanité qui nous fait homme. Une édition qui conjugue liberté et rêve mais aussi regard critique sur notre société.
Les sites d’exposition
Ce parcours relie des espaces en centre ville (Atelier d’Estienne, Trieur et Combles de la Maison des Princes, Office de tourisme) à la ferme de Saint-Urchaut par un sentier pédestre le long de la rivière du Scorff.
– L’atelier d’Estienne (180 m2 et 5 salles).
– Les combles (90 m2 et 2 salles sous charpente) et le trieur de la Maison des Princes.
– L’Office du Tourisme et la Maison du Scorff.
– Le manoir, la chaumière, la grange, la ferme et l’étable de Saint-Urchaut.
– Les sites naturels et la rivière du Scorff sur 5 km de parcours pédestre.
Seront privilégiées les œuvres en relation avec le patrimoine naturel (sentier pédestre en forêt) ou en lien avec les lieux d’installation (patrimoine historique). Nous porterons particulièrement notre attention sur les projets réalisés pour l’extérieur. Les artistes participent au montage de leur exposition ainsi qu’au vernissage, le dimanche 20 juin 2010. (Possibilité de transport des œuvres par la structure (maximum 600 km) et d’hébergement sur place)
Faire parvenir un dossier complet (avec une grande enveloppe affranchie pour le retour) comprenant :
Les œuvres devront être conçues pour tenir pendant les trois mois de l’exposition et l’Atelier d’Estienne s’acquitte d’une assurance (hors lieu d’exposition extérieur).
L’attribution définitive du lieu d’installation sera établie par l’Atelier d’Estienne, en restant attentif aux souhaits des artistes.
Concernant les conditions financières, l’Atelier d’Estienne attribue à chaque artiste une note d’honoraire, étudiée au cas par cas, selon le projet proposé. Nous précisons que cette indemnité n’est pas spécifiquement attribuée aux frais de création.

>From the 10th to the 15th of November, TactileBOSCH Gallery & Studios will host Auxesis: Performance a five day
performance Art festival showcasing the work of some of today’s most established names in Live Art from across
Europe including; Falmouth College of Art lecturer Mark Greenwood, Brighton based performance group ProtoPlay and
SPART Member Justin McEwen. Alongside the twelve invited artists and collectives the curator is looking to select an
additional Performance artist to participate in the festival through an open submission process.
Auxesis: Performance will open with an evening of Live Art on the 10th November with each invited artists creating
instant, durational and interventionist work in their own specific space within the vast gallery complex. Over the
following four days the physical remnants and photographic documentation of each performance will be exhibited in-
situ alongside a continuing program of performances.
The Curator is looking for a performance to take place through the entirety of the festival to act as the cohesive factor
binding together the diverse and energetic performance line-up and exhibition.
The remit for this performance is flexible and the curator will discuss with the chosen artists their work and how it will
fit in with the rest of the festival. The selected artist would not have to perform for the entirety of the festivals opening
times if they did not wish too but would be expected to create at least one durational act each day.
This will not only be an opportunity to exhibit work alongside some of today’s most established names in Live Art but
will also be a rare opportunity to develop extended length durational work. Please find attached a press release
